Missing Arial MT

I just reinstalled iLife. After the update of iWeb 1.1.1, and chosing the White or Black templates, I'm getting an error message stating I am missing ArialMT and Arial-BoldMT.
Any way to fix this
Black Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   2 G's of Memory, 100G 7200 rpm HD

Ya, I read about the Arial MS problem. But that seemed to complicated... I like my fix much better

  • Fonts missing - Arial (T1) Bold and BookAntiqua Regular

    Hi,
When I open up an InCopy file, it says the two fonts above are missing.
Can anybody tell me where to find them?
    Many thanks,
    Neil.

I understand your frustration with this. Sorry in advance if I'm repeating anything you've already tried...
It sounds like you've already copied the fonts into the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Fonts folder.
If you haven't copied them into the InDesign Fonts folder, you'll need to do that as well.
    Copy:
    ARIALN.TTF
    ARIALNB.TTF
    ARIALNBI.TTF
    ARIALNI.TTF
    from C:\Windows\Fonts or C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Fonts
    into C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS5\Fonts
Substitute in the appropriate indesign fonts folder if your directory structure is different from mine.
As you're probably aware, if they're installed correctly they will only show up as variants of the Arial font:
If this doesn't work, you might want to see if there is a  hotfix for "2003 Microsoft Office System" (instead of the 2007 hotfix discussed in the prior thread you posted in). Keep in mind that the office 2007 hotfix actually patched the font files themselves, so I don't know if there's a patch for the office 2003 fonts.
    Good luck,
    Dan

  • Missing Arial-BoldMT font from every page.

Surely someone else has experienced the nasty error window that pops up the very first time you visit any one of your pages from within iWeb?
I've resorted to changing all the fonts to web-safe fonts on a page to no avail. The error continues to haunt me.
If I could find a copy of this font out there somewhere I'd simply add it to my Font Book...but it doesn't seem to be readily available. For free that is.
    TIA, Gramps.

WooHoo, give that dope (me) a star!!
Apparently the cat (always blame the cat) deleted some of my Arial fonts. I copied all Arial fonts onto a USB drive from another similar Mac and then had Font Book put them in place. Deleted all duplicates, and I'm back in business. Error window is history.
Going to go and take a "Smart" pill now...

  • Upgraded to CS4... Arial now missing in CS3

A few of us in my company are testing Snow Leopard and CS4 before upgrading the entire department. I was blessed with my new machine, programs and OS this Friday, and in the midst of the transition I'm still working in CS3 because of a Tuesday deadline. With multiple people, CS3 users, accessing the same files for various edits and use (i.e. people familiar with these programs and people who are definitely not) we felt it would be easier to begin saving as an InDesign Interchange once the storm blows over. This will allow us proper time to explain to those individuals that the "INX" file is not a corrupt file... it will open just fine in CS3.
My issue involves the fonts we use for these files. When told that until next week we need to do our updates in CS3, feeling there would be no issues, I opened the file in CS3 and was told Arial TTF was missing. Strange, since before I upgraded it was fine. I found that my system had Arial OTF, so I replaced the TTF and saved a version on my desktop. After testing it with a random employee, it showed up as "missing" when she opened the file. Of course, I knew what the outcome would be, but testing it was my first thought.
I understand how to replace missing fonts.. but that's not an option in this case. These particular files, like I said, are used throughout the company. Until we upgrade everyone, continuing to use Arial TTF would be ideal. At the moment, in the midst of our deadline, I'm destined to deal with updating the files with a missing font in CS3 and printing in CS4.
Once we begin saving the "INX" files from CS4, will I be able to use the accepted OTF on my machine, save an Interchange file, and have every TTF user open it on their machines with no problems? Or are our new machines, programs, and OS simply not going to be compatible with TTF --- only OTF? Once everyone has upgraded, using OTF across the board should eliminate any issues, although most outside of the art department will only upgrade to CS4. They will not have their OS upgraded. Until we cross that bridge, can the four of us CS4/Snow Leopard users simply deactivate the OTF and active a TTF? I haven't had time to test at work. Since upgrading late Friday, I have returned home frustrated, trying to figure out a solution before I return this weekend.
The joys of testing... new OS, new CS, new iMac = priceless. Resolving conflicts, not so much.
Any suggestions or insight would be highly appreciated!

I've had the same problem of missing Arial TTF fonts since upgrading to Snow Leopard.  I'd always used Arial TTF and still have Arial TTF fonts in the system library and my library font file, but InDesign 4 only finds Arial OTF.  If I delete the OTF fonts then it finds the TTF fonts, it just doesn't seem to cope with having the two fonts - it's one or the other.
I find it's a real pain in the arse with old files that used TTF fonts having to be converted and not being able to copy and paste between new and old files.  Even using "find font" and "replace with"Arial OTF only replaces the actual characters, there are still spaces left which when typed in results in the Arial ttf font being used which of course then gets highlighted as a missing font not found.
I can't believe that supposed upgrades are so buggy.  If anyone nuts out a real fix I'd love to know what it is as swapping fonts from folder to folder has not worked for me.
I feel your pain. I'm beginning to think it's their way of making everyone buy the new product! Ha.

  • Missing Fonts in PDF

    Hello everybody
I have a font problem somwhere in the chain Powerpoint->PDF->InDesign. When i Import the generated PDF, InDesign is reporting missing fonts in it. Now, there is a difference in which and where the fonts are missing (11 vs 31 errors) depending on which way i use to generate the PDF
    a) via "publishing as PDF" from Powerpoint 2010
    b) via "Print as" using the PDF printer
When checking the PDF's, i can see that corresponding fonts were embedded into the PDF (it might be that there is some confusion about naming of these fonts. For instance, PDF reports an embedded font "Arial" with "Actual name: ArialMT" while Indesign is simply missing "Arial", without any further information except that it has the status "not embedded").
Strangely, there also are missing fonts that i can find nowhere in the Powerpoint file (But several people worked on this presentation). I tried several versions and installations of Windows/Powerpoint/InDesign, without luck.
Workaround for now is export all slides as PNG. Any ideas what i can do to solve this problem?
    Many thanks for assistance,
    Andreas

Part of your problem is associated with PowerPoint 2010.
Microsoft's "save as PDF" leaves a bit to be desired at best.
Acrobat 9 (and obviously the earlier versions of Acrobat) do not support any of the Office 2010 components via the PDFMaker component.
If you print to the "Adobe PDF" PostScript printer driver instance from PowerPoint 2010 to create PDF, make sure you use joboptions that embed all fonts. The "out of the box" Standard joboptions do not do that. Try High Quality Print joboptions instead.
(The next full version of Acrobat will fully support PDFMaker with Office 2010! Even then, it will be critical to set joboptions that embed all fonts with no exceptions!)

  • Missing fonts in PDF placed in InDesign

I was sent a PDF to make slight changes to it. Since the changes were so minor and relatively few, I thought it would be easiest to just place the pages of the PDF into an InDesign document and put white boxes over what needs to change.
I just noticed the Preflight panel says I'm missing Arial and Times New Roman which I know I have. I tried doing "Find Font" to replace the missing Arial with my Arial, but "Change" is grayed out so I'm thinking the fonts must not be properly embedded in the PDF.
I'm not sure if they have the original document the PDF came from (and if they do, it might be in Word). Is there a way I can fix this either in InDesign or with Acrobat?
Or, if I don't fix it, do you think that the missing fonts will not print properly?

You might be able to embed these fonts properly in the PDF. It isn't always successful, but in Preflight, open the fixups section and use the selection as in the screen shot. Then relink/replace the PDF in ID.

  • Change missing fonts in multiple files CS4

I am using InDesign CS4 and I have several dozen files that are missing fonts because of going from a Mac to Windows. I have approximately 20 documents open, so there are 20 "Missing Fonts" dialog boxes open. If I want to replace the missing fonts, which are pretty much the same in every document, is there a way to replace all the missing "Arial Black"s at once instead of having to replace each font in each document one at a time?
    I hope that makes sense?
    Thanks,
    Lloyd

No prob, Lloyd. I meant to include some Handy Illustrative Screenshots but the work I'm actually getting paid to do kept getting in the way  Glad you were able to figure it out.
Unfortunately, this method doesn't have the "Redefine Style When Changing All" checkbox that you get when you use the Find Font dialog. I usually wind up using this techinque with files I've not styled - e.g. when a designer sends me a package from a Mac with no styles and a bunch of 0k fonts that wouldn't support my target languages even if I did have a license for the font in the first place. In those rare occasions when I have to do this to my own well-styled docs, I made a key combo control-alt-shift-R "Redefine Style" so I could step through the doc and redefine all of the styles to the new font.
Peter & Uwe, do either of you remember when using find/change for missing fonts started working? Was it new in CS4, or am I remembering PageMaker? Quark? I can't tell. I do remember a time a decade or so ago when I was manually stepping through a massive document made of thousands of individual frames, cursing my inability to search for missing fonts.

  • Replace missing font

Director loads a project and tells me my system is missing
Arial MT Black. It tells me that it is replacing it with a default
font. It doesn't tell me which font this is. It would be really
helpful if there was a way I could find out what this font is.
    Pretty please

If the font is replaced on the stage highlight the text,
right click and choose font, should show the current font being
    used.

  • MS Word can see these fonts, so why can't InDesign CS4?

I produce an annual brochure and have just opened last year's INDD file in InDesign CS4 on my Windows XP PC, intending to use this as the basis for this year's brochure. The document was created using InDesign CS2 and had no font issues when last used. However, I am now being told by InDesign CS4 that the following three fonts are missing,
    Arial Narrow
    Arial Narrow Bold Italic
    Arial Black
When I try to search for Arial Narrow via the Find Font dialogue box, it is nowhere to be seen in the list of available fonts. I can find Arial Black in the list but it only appears to be available in italic style, which is not used in my document. Other apps on my PC, such as MS Office, have no problem in finding these common fonts in all the usual styles. They are also listed in Windows Control Panel/Fonts.
How do I fix this irritating problem?

    Bob,
I spent a bit more time reading your link and all the associated comments. Unfortunately, different people appear to have adopted different solutions and there is a general lack of clarity. There were three sources of confusion for my simple mind.
Firstly, the referenced Microsoft Hotfix 956514 does not support your assertion that it is incompatible with XP SP3 so I went ahead and installed this hotfix. The result was that my previous Arial Narrow font files were updated from version 2.37 to 2.40 (as viewed via Control Panel/Fonts). I also deleted all the Adobe font cache files and rebooted my PC. This resolved my problem with Arial Narrow (though my first attempt failed as I think I must have missed one of the Adobe font cache files). All the previous style variants of Arial Narrow are now available under Arial. That problem is now resolved.
The second source of confusion was that the hotfix description claims to fix an Arial Narrow problem with Office 2007. It does not make any reference to Adobe application problems. This was puzzling as I never had any problem with accessing these fonts within Word 2007. However, I guess that the subfamily name confusion was at the root of Adobe's problems and had little or no visible effect on the Office apps.
Thirdly, you recommended a hotfix that updates the font files to the latest level and yet some of those who have commented on your web page have fixed the problem by installing old versions of the font files (including the version I was originally using). Not everyone is singing from the same hymn sheet.
Anyway, I got there in the end and many thanks for pointing me in the right direction .
This leaves me with one remaining problem. My CS2 InDesign doc uses an italic version of Arial Black, which exists on my PC as a TrueType font version 1.00 dated 1996. This no longer accessible via InDesign CS4, which allows me to select Arial Black either under its own name or as a style variant of Arial but only offers the regular style in each case. Any ideas on how to fix this?

  • IDCS3 font issues on final printjob, not in IDCS3 nor Acrobat

    Something odd happened.
We use IDCS3 for designing a 24p tabloid newspaper for 4 issues now. It works fast and efficient, our workflow process has been cut down from 3 weeks to 3 days since we migrated from Coreldraw (yes you read right - sigh).
We didn't encounter any problems for the last issues, till now.
We received a container full of newspapers from the printing company with some strange font errors.
On some advertisings some used fonts are substituted with -seemingly inconsistent- different fonts. None of the affected fonts were too exotic. Arial, even a plain simple Courier was substituted with something different
for example some lines read this:
    Yg"cuukuv"{qw"ghhgevkxgn{"
Not on all pages though. It is a mistery.
I firstly thought we didn't do enough quality control on our final pdf files. So I opened the pdf again, especially looking for the affected pages/areas. Seems to show up perfectly on my screen. The final printjob was different than our pdf.
After that one of our designers come to report me a problem on his computer. Every time he opens the .indd file IDCS3 complains about a missing 'Arial Bold' font. No complains about the 'Courier New' font though.
My question. Who is to blame for this error. Is it us - the under experienced InDesign newbies - or is it our printing company? Should they have seen this? Did we do anything wrong? Is the fontproblem on the design computer to blame? Why it happened with such a standard fonts?
Any suggestions are welcome. Would be happy to supply more details.
    Thanks
    Karel

Open the original PDF and go to the File Properties > Fonts tab. Make sure the fonts are all embedded. It sounds as if they are not.
The "blame," if there is any, would be assigned based on a number of factors. If the fonts are all properly embedded, it sounds like the printer is doing the substitution (though I have no idea how). There was an issue, I believe in CS1, with subset fonts in nested PDFs (PDFs placed into ID documents and then exported again as PDF) not being properly recognized if more than one PDF used the same font, but different subsets, but to the best of my knowledge that has long since been corrected.
If the fonts are not all shown as embedded, it can be caused by failure on the part of the person making the PDF to specifically embed them (typically in a distilled PDF), or it may be that the font itself does not allow embedding, in which case it is a poor choice and should not be used for this kind of work. When exporting, InDesign automatically embeds all western fonts with appropriate permissions, but not all applications are so helpful.

  • IWeb 3.0.4- missing fonts –Arial MT and Arial BOLD

When using iWeb 3.0.4 I'll get the missing two fonts –Arial MT and Arial BOLD– error messages on every single page. This font is NOT in use and I don't have a working version as replacement on my font folder. I don't want to buy it to get rid of the problem. Anybody knows how can i get ride of those without using pacifist ? Thanks.

I believe those fonts are Microsoft fonts.  Do you have MS Office or any other MS software installed?
    Try the following:
delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder. -  you've already tried this.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
3 - launch iWeb and try again.
If that doesn't help continue with:
move the domain file from your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
launch iWeb, create a new test site, save the new domain file and close iWeb.
go to the your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
    launch iWeb and try again.
It is now generally acknowledged that iWeb, and iDVD, has been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
However, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
All of these issues can be solved with 3rd party options.
I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken.  If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
It now appears that the iLife suite of applications offered on disc is now a discontinued product and the remaining supported iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on. However, the boxed iLife 11 still available at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD. Those two apps were listed in small, gray text on the iLife 11 box that I bought.
Personally, if I already didn't have a copy I would purchase one to have it for reinstallation purposes if ever needed.
This might be of some interest to you at this time: Life After MobileMe.

  • Flash CS4 can't use arial-keeps changing to arial MT (font mappings - missing fonts)

I am using Flash CS4 on Windows Server 2003 (i know it sounds strange, but there are reasons).
I previously had Flash CS2, but ever since I installed CS4 my font mappings have been messed up. Any time I open a fla with any standard fonts (arial, tahoma, etc) it tells me the fonts are missing. When this happens with arial..I set the font mapping back to arial, and everything seems to work fine. Until I try to change a text field to arial. When I do this flash automatically changes it to arial MT. It will not let me use arial. This really isn't a problem until I am using a dynamic text field. Because dynamic text fields use system fonts, so when a user opens one of my swf's on their computer it looks for arial MT not arial. If they don't have arial MT (which most people don't) it changes the font to their system default (usually times new roman).
The only work around I have found successful is to embed the fonts in the dynamic text field. I really don't want to do this as I am just wanting to use arial. I have search the ends of the internet and can't find anyone else with a similar problem.
    To sum it up...
My flash cs4 font mappings are messed up. It won't let me use arial. Forces me to use arial MT.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
I had an existing Flash website, opened CS4 received Arial font no good.  Looked up the solution. At Microsoft is said that the mappings were confused by the names used for arial, no problems download the patch.
Next time still the error message PLUS now the fonts come up as a combination of symbols best described as rubbish.  I wanted arial, plain old no nonsense arial.
Any tips to overcome the patch?
Also had a crash like this one
    http://jobemakar.blogspot.com/2008/10/how-to-crash-flash-cs4-with-single.html
He feels it is not a font problem but a stability issue.

  • Arial-BoldItalicMT font missing after upgrade to Snow Leopard

I updated to Snow Leopard yesterday and when I open iWeb I get a message that the font Arial-BoldItalicMT is missing. The program does not offer a substitute and this happens to be my favorite font, which I use in all my websites.
The text in all my pages appears stacked as if the kerning was corrupt. There is no way to fix this through the inspector nor through the font window. i tried to look for this font on the internet to add it to my fonts suitcase, but I cannot find it as written in the error message (Arial-BoldItalicMT)
    Can anyone help?
I tried restoring the iWeb domain file from yesterday's back up but this did not solve the problem.
I cannot update any of my pages for fear of passing on this problem to my live, published pages on my hosting service.
    Thank you.
    Juan Carlos

    Thanks, Tom.
The font as you write it "Arial Bold Italic" is in my 10.6 folder. As per OT's suggestion I turned it off and on again. The font name written in the error message is "Arial-BoldItalic"
I don't know what the dash means but it does not seem to be a change in name from 10.5
I tried re-installing the font. I also tried making a copy of it and adding the dash to the copy but iWeb crashes if I do this when I try to save, so I trash the copy with the dash.
Arial is the only font that seems to be having the problem in iWeb. Just now, however, I opened word and whenever I tried to select Arial as the font, word showed Arial selected but one of the dingbat fonts actually came out as characters when I typed. Could there be another preference document that I should trash/rebuild. Some directory somewhere sounds corrupt.
    Thanks.

  • Arial Narrow missing CS5 with Win 7

I found some threads related to this issue but all are related to Win XP.  These "solutions" also seem to require that you be a computer programmer to follow them
Just got a new computer with Win 7 64-bit and just updated to Photoshop/Illustrator CS5.  Arial Narrow font (all varieties) is missing, although I see it in all Microsoft applications.  I have a library full of ads and fliers created, most of which use Arial Narrow.
How can I get it back without having to manually go play in the Windows fonts? (my knowledge of computers outside of graphics software is limited, I don't want to make matters worse by getting into all that).  Is it possibly there but under another name?
    Thank you.

    donghai wrote:

Have you seen actual evidence that an installation of Photoshop made with any particular antivirus program in force has been corrupted?
AV programs might block installations by detecting false positives, but I haven't seen anyone report that AV has corrupted their Photoshop installation, nor have I heard of one interfering with an installation without actually notifying the user, making it obvious what the problem is.
Advising people to disable their antivirus program is not good practice in general.
If an antivirus program IS interfering with the normal operation of your computer, it's time to consider getting a better quality antivirus program.

  • Font Warning - Missing font - Arial Bold

    Hello All,
I have searched around for this one, and not found the answer.  I have just rebuit my PC (windows XP) and
re-installed all software.  I am now getting the missing font dialog for one of my fla files.
I check "Edit/Font Mapping" and it says that Arial Bold is missing.  When I check the fonts in my "C:\WINDOWS\Fonts"
directory Arial Bold is there as a true type font (ARIALBD.TTF).
The only font that show up in my Flash (and Photoshop too) is "Arial."  Any hints on how to fix this?
I will guess it is some sort of install error or system error?  I did not have this issue before the rebuild.
    Thanks,
