Missing Artwork tab in Get Info?

Recently I've noticed more and more files that don't have the Artwork tab when you go into the info.  I like keeping everything organized with DVD artwork, but I can't figure out why it's just some files and not others.  If I select multiple files, I can set the artwork that way, so my workaround is to set the artwork on the problem file along with one that does have the artwork tab, then I go back into the "good" one and use Get Info to set that one back to its actual artwork.
Any ideas?

Solution
1) remove the Cache, Download, and Local directories in c:/My Documents/My Music/iTunes/Album Artwork/ then restart iTunes.
2)Next allow iTunes to load all the artwork from the songs in your library.
3)Fix any with missing artwork if you so desire
4)Turn off artwork in music tab, sync, turn on artwork, sync (optimizes album artwork for all songs)

  • How to ungray Artwork tab in Get Info?

I deleted the image that was in the Artwork (in Get Info) tab. When I went to add a new one the Artwork tab is now grayed out. It wasn't gray before I deleted the image. It's for a movie that's a m4v that was purchased from the iTunes store. Any hints on how to ungray it?

I am trying to run, for example, TechTool Pro installed on an external HD to check my internal HD. When I attempt to do this I get the message indicated in my July 17 2008 1:36PM post (above). Thus, I cannot run TTP because I do not see the "ignore permissions" option at the bottom of the Get Info window. I must be missing some point here. I unchecked "ignore permissions" for TechTool Pro and DiskWarrior in 10.4 and earlier iterations of the Mac OSX.

  • I cannot access the album artwork tab under 'Get Info' within iTunes.

I just manually added artwork for a song, so I know it isn't that I can't add any artwork.  After I added it for the first song, I went to do it for another song-different title, also marked as an 'Unknown Album' and 'Unkown Artist' (they both were before I started to add the information in and artwork), but the 'Artwork' tab is grayed and unselectable.  They have different artists and albums entirely.  Just to be clear, the file is in .wav format before it was downloaded (free and legally) the was opened automatically in iTunes was the download finished.  The file extension still says .wav on it.  I'm including this information in case it helps.  I am looking for a way to fix this and make it work, please help.  Thank you in advance!
In case you want to know what the file is to try it yourself, it is the audio track for the following video.  The video creator made the song and included a free download to the audio track in the description.  It is the 'Extended Cut' version that I am trying to add artwork for.

    Thank you!

Nevermind!  I just had to convert it to an AAC version which can be found under the 'File' drop down menu.  The option is under 'Create New Version' then 'Create AAC Version'  I don't know what AAC is or means, but it duplicated the song but in a format I could add the artwork for.  I found out that to add artwork for .wav files, the first must be converted.  Thank you!  I hope this helps other people too!

  • ITunes 8 "Lyric" tab under "Get info" is missing....

iTunes 8 "Lyric" tab under "Get info" is missing....
Now how do I add lyrics to my songs?!
How do I restore the lyric tab? Is it part of iTunes 8 new design?
    Thank you!

Well, it won't show up if it's in WAV format.
WAV format doesn't have tags for lyrics.

  • Sorting tab in "get info"

If you select get info for any particular track there is a tab called sorting. I can not find anything in the help topics about how you can use this. Looking for somebody who uses this and can tell me what I can and can not do with this function?
Thanks for any help and/or advice.
    [email protected]

Yes. iTunes will alphabetize by whatever's in the Sorting field instead of whatever's in the associated field — if the Album field contains "Dark Side of the Moon" and the Album Sort field contains "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes", Dark Side of the Moon will appear with the A's when sorted by Album.
If you want to apply a Sorting field to other tracks with the same data, control-click it and select "Apply sort field..." from the contextual menu that pops up.

  • Can't cut and paste lyrics into the "lyrics" tab in "Get Info."

I have the latest version of iTunes for Mac, but today I tried to cut and paste the lyrics to a song into the lyrics tab and it refuses to paste. I don't even get an option to paste. Nothing happens when I right click to paste. The cursor is blinking but no paste. It's shut off. I can copy the lyrics off the internet site fine, but when I go into the File>Get Info>Lyrics Tab, can't paste anything. Anybody experience this problem?

    Hi Patys,
I have already posted the solution twice and you can read it by scrolling up in this topic!

  • Keyboard shortcuts and tabs with get info box

I'm having several problems with the new get info box - and regret that I can no longer bring up the old version with the shift/right-click/get-info command.
    1) No keyboard shortcut to advance from one track to the next, from inside the Get Info box. This used to be handled with Alt-N or Alt-P for Next and Previous. Now it seems to require mouse click on the error.
    2) When tabbing through fields, it skips fields toward the bottom (album artist)
    3) For works with the same title (most of my library is classical), I've tended to organize them by adding an extra space at the end of the Album line for the 2nd work with that title, or an extra two spaces for the 3rd work with that same title. This way they sort as distinct albums, since most works have multiple tracks. With the new Get Info, if I enter that extra space on the field in the box, it cuts it off when clicking ok. But if I just F2 the field on itunes list view, I can add it with no problem. This is a pain because I have to do it one track at a time, can't do it for multiple tracks at once.

The functions printed in small letters on those keys are accessed by the fn key.
The following work on my MBP (albeit using Word 2008, but IIRC the same shortcuts worked in Word 2004):
Jump to start of document = Command-Fn-LeftArrow (aka Command-Home)
Jump to end of document = Command-Fn-RightArrow (aka Command-End)
    Likewise,
Jump to start of line = Fn-LeftArrow
Jump to end of line = Fn-RightArrow
    Page Up = Fn-UpArrow
    Page Down = Fn-DownArrow
In this one (exceedingly rare) instance, Niel is incorrect.

  • Info tab in Get Info section is greyed out

The info tab in the get info section is greyed out on some of the songs and does not let me change them. What do I need to do? Does anyone know how?
These are songs downloaded from my CD collection.

If the files are not read only, the most likely thing is that Vista does not regard you as the owner of the files as they were created from another account, and has not granted you write permission.
You need to make sure that your account has full control or at least write permission for the folder containing your music.
Ther is some microsoft help on permissions in Vista here:

  • Album artwork doesn't show up on Get Info window?

I downloaded iTunes 7. Now, when I open the Get Info window and go to the artwork tab, the artwork doesn't show up, even though I can see it in the regular iTunes window! Help? Anyone?

iTunes 7 does some stupid things with the artwork. The artwork tab in Get Info is the artwork that is contained inside the music file. iTunes 7 also downloads artwork for songs but then it doesn't store it inside the song file -- it just puts in in a folder on the computer.

  • Artwork tab missing when selecting multiple tracks

    osx 10.5.8
    itunes 9.0.3
i'm having trouble assigning MULTIPLE pieces of album art to MULTIPLE tracks SIMULTANEOUSLY.
i see that i can add multiple arts to a single track by:
.. selecting a single track by highlighting -> get info -> artwork tab
.. selecting and playing a single track (so that the speaker icon appears to the left of the track in the playlist; paused or not) -> dragging artwork into the artwork pane in itunes; artwork gets added only to the track with the speaker icon regardless of which track(s) are highlighted. if there is existing artwork, new art gets added (does not replace old art).
also, adding a single piece of art to multiple tracks can be done by:
.. selecting tracks by highlighting -> get info -> info tab -> artwork field (note: artwork FIELD within info TAB of 'get info' dialog, not artwork tab)
adding multiple arts to multiple tracks simultaneously COULD NOT be done by:
.. selecting (highlighting) multiple tracks -> get info; ARTWORK TAB IS MISSING WHEN MULTIPLE TRACKS ARE SELECTED! there is only the artwork field in the info tab. setting this field with art resets any previous art -- the only art for the selected tracks will be the single piece you set in this field.
.. selecting (highlighting) multiple tracks -> dragging artwork into the artwork pane in itunes; artwork gets added only to the (single) track with the speaker icon (playing/paused) regardless of which track(s) are highlighted.
i've seen it done in (unknown version) windows itunes by:
.. selecting (highlighting) multiple tracks -> get info -> artwork tab (NOT MISSING!?)
    pretty aggravating heh
    help please.

    haaaa
    i just figured it out.
just above the artwork box in the lower left of the window, there is bar.
you can click on it to toggle between Now Playing and Selected Item.
this was my problem -- mine was on now playing. i didn't realize this was changeable.
thanks for motivating me to click at and around that artwork pane in frustration, guys. yay.
    solved.

  • ITunes 12: Can't Add Album Artwork; Missing Artwork Too

I've been trying to add a 622X621 JPEG image to iTunes following the usual steps. (Using the Add Artwork button under Get Info and copy/paste artwork in the artwork window under Get Info.) No matter what I try it simply won't appear in iTunes.
I'm also missing artwork for a fair number of albums that should be there but isn't...
I tried deleting the Artwork cache so iTunes would rebuild it but still No Joy.
I've read Apple support files, advice by the iTunes Guy at MacWorld and other websites that detail the steps for adding artwork. This should be easy to do...!
    I'm running iTunes 12.0.1.26 Mavericks 10.9.5.

I assume that you have a few WAV-files. If so, you need to convert your WAV files into MP3 or (if you want to keep lossless formats) into a format like aiff.

  • Itunes 12 will not allow you to paste album covers into the get info section of albums or indivial songs it makes you go to another area on your computer

I tried to do a cut and paste like I used to do for album covers that iTunes doesn't carry( go figure) and the 12 version wont let you instead it has a window pop up for pictures that your suppose to direct it to get the artwork from. That's a lot of work! All I can say is simplify and do more research before the next release. also iTunes has always had problems freezing up. This verion and past verisons. I'd go to a different player put I've already invested thousands of dollars in my iTunes media and the earlier stuff doesn't play on different players. So here I am stuck.

The iTunes 12 Get Info dialog lacks right-click context menus (at least for now) but it still accepts most standard keyboard shortcuts and drag & drop actions.
    Delete Artwork
On the artwork tab of Get Into, tap the image in question, use Backspace or Ctrl+X. Delete doesn't work.
Or, tap the image at the top left of Get Info, this time use Backspace or Delete, it is Ctrl+X that doesn't work.
    Add Artwork
Select artwork, press Ctrl+C to copy, tap the center of the Artwork tab, press Ctrl+V to paste.
Or, select artwork, press Ctrl+C to copy, tap the small image area at the top left, press Ctrl+V to paste.
Or, you can drag & drop to, or sometimes from, the same locations.
You can also copy artwork from the Get Info dialog to Windows Explorer with the keyboard shortcuts.
If the source image is on a web page right-click and use Copy Image rather than copy. (With Chrome I get a one pixel wraparound so tend to go for a temporary local copy anyway - not sure whose bug this is, but it isn't new.)
If you have multiple images embedded drag the one you want to be the primary artwork to the leftmost position.
    Replace/Remove All Artwork
The top left image box can be used to add or delete art from multiple tracks. In either case all existing artwork in all tracks is replaced/removed.
    Old Style Get Info Dialog
Select some items, right-click, hold down shift, then click Get Info from the context menu. (Use alt/option on a Mac)

  • How do I get albums out of "compilations'?  On one of my machined I can go to individual songs, "get info" and uncheck "part of a compilation", but that does not work on my office machine.  I would also like to be able to do this in  a group for an album,

I don't know how so much of my music got lost by being labled "compilations"?  I would like to go back and catagorize it as it should be but the screens are gray and will not let me alter them as to the catagory I wish them to be in (or even the genere they are already labled?  On my home machine I can (by individual song) "get info and uncheck "part of a compilation" and when this is finished the album goes to the genere as it is listed?  Frustrating bit of hous keeping.  Help and Thanks  Chuck

The Get Info. fields show up gray if the files is locked and iTunes knows it can't edit the file. Make sure the files are not marked as read only and, if necessary grant both your account and system full access to all files and subfolders of your media folder.
You can set Part of a Compilation for multiple tracks from the Options tab of Get Info.

  • Itunes 12 - can't delete podcast album art in new get info dialogue

In iTunes 12, the new "Get Info" dialogue box has an album art. There is a button at the bottom to add new artwork, but I don't see a way to remove artwork (in the case of wrong or duplicate artwork).

    Hey ralf.haring,
Thanks for the question. To remove artwork from a selected item, simply select the artwork in the “Get Info” screen and tap the delete or backspace button. For more information on Artwork in iTunes 12, check out the following resource:

  • No "Artwork" tab for all songs in a album.

For whatever reason, I've never been able to apply album art to this one album I have. Just today I noticed that these songs do not have an Artwork tab when their info is read. This is the only album that has had this happen, and there really isn't anything special about the original files.
From the looks of things, it seems I can simply convert the files to AAC, and then add the album art, but I'd rather just keep the files as they are, if I can, so that I don't have to bother messing with the playcounts.
Is there a way to fix these files? I thought they might have been stuck in a read-only state, but that wasn't the issue. Anyone at least heard of this problem before?

Fixed it. What I did was, I went to the folder containing the music files. Then all I did, I viewed their properties individually, going to the summary tab, clicking advanced, then clicking apply. Doing that for each file, cycling back to simple then to advanced then clicking apply, allowed me to modify the artwork for these files. Still not sure how it happened to begin with, but I don't really care now.
