Missing atom
When I use Feed Validator to validate the Apple Podcast it gives this warging:
Missing atom:link with rel="self"
I do not understand very well the explanations. If I understand well to declare the atom just helps the podcast to be found more easitlly. Is that it? Can anyone explain in a simple not technical way if it is good to use this and why?
I followeb the instructions and I put the code here but it does not work. Can anyone tell me what is missing or wrong?

You can ignore this. Feedburner validates the feed as XML, for a range of RSS readers, not just podcasts for iTunes, 'Atom' is an ancient RSS reader - I imagine very few people use it nowadays. That tag is purely for its benefit and has no effect whatever in iTunes so you can just ignore the matter completely.
FeedValidator is a very useful tool but be cautious with it. It will sometimes throw up errors which aren't errors or aren't relevant; and there are some things (like use of incompatible media formats) which will throw iTunes but which FeedValidator won't pick up because they don't constitute invalid XML.

I need help getting my RSS feed compaitble with Itunes...Im almost there.
Can someone help me with my code for itunes. Unfortunately I use rapidweaver to podcast and I have read there are a few things Rapidweaver leaves out when publishing the site so itunes does not accept the feed. My RSS feed works and can be subscribed manually though Itunes or with software. Im thinking im using spaces or it looks like I need to number my tracks for my podcast(which sounds odd but, I know itunes is finicky with spaces, symbols etc)

From the FeedValidator report the feed is basically OK for iTunes. There are several occasions where 'content:encoded' sections (following immediately on 'guid' tags) should be enclosed in
<description>...</description>
tags: however all this will be ignored by iTunes anyway and only applies to other readers. The 'potentially dangerous content' referred to by FeedValidator is within the 'content:encoded' tags and so isn't relevant to iTunes. They are referring to an inline css style, and I don't know whether this might cause a problem elsewhere.
You should really have a language tag, e.g.
<language>en-us</language>
(you have a dc:language tag but that's for a different system). This should be placed in the top section, before the first 'item' tag.
It's advisable to have an 'itunes:explicit' tag for each 'item' -
<itunes:explicit>yes IF CONTAINS ADULT MATERIAL, OTHERWISE no</itunes:explicit>
it's not compulsory if you have no adult material, but you must have a 'yes' if you do.
You can check your feed by subscribing in iTunes from the 'Advanced' menu - this has the same result as clicking the 'Subscribe' button on the Store page. If it works OK there you are ready to submit it. -

You can ignore this - it's to do with the ancient 'Atom' feed reader which few peple use.

You don't need the 'explicit' tag unless you have strong or sexual language in your podcast. If you do, it should be present and set to 'yes'. -

The reason you cannot download the episodes is that the URL for the latest one at least does not work:

Either there is no file at this address or there is something wrong with it. Looking at the display of your feed in FireFox (used as an rss reader) the episodes are described as 'Video (protected)' - have you inadvertently set a password? - no password request is received when attempting to load the URL, but you don't get a 'file not found' either. On attempting to load the URL I got a blank page: looking at the source code I found:

If you are trying to use a script to load the video this isn't going to work in iTunes, and evidently doesn't work in a browser either - you need to give the actual URL of the media (and ideally there should be no spaces in the filename). I'm afraid you are going to have to do some detective work. -

Can't Publish My GoDaddy Blogcast Feed
Hi. I am having the same problem as well. I am trying to submit my GoDaddy Quick Blogcast feed (podcast.pastorjames.net) using the RSS Podcast 2.0 feed to iTunes and I'm getting the same Byte-Range error. If I click "continue" in iTunes enough times, I can get past it, but I get a generic email from Apple saying there was an error and my podcast was not added. I have run a feed validator and I get a channel error (Missing atom:link with rel="self"). But I don't know how to fix it. I am also able to manual subscribe to my podcast in iTunes under the Advanced menu. I am a loss here! Please help.
The only error in your feed is in the URL in the 'itunes:image' tag, which has spaces in it - spaces are not allowed in a URL so this is invalid. However this will not affect the feed overall.
As you say, it can be subscribed to manually in iTunes. I gather when you submit it you are told that the server does not handle 'byte range requests', which Apple have now made a requirement. The iPhone plays podcasts by using 'byte-range requests', which means calling for part of the file at a time rather than the whole thing. Unfortunately some servers don't support this, and there were an increasing number of complaints that podcasts which worked elsewhwere weren't working on an iPhone.
So Apple are now making the ability to handle this a condition of submission. Your media files are served from media.podcastingmanager.com: apparently they don't support this, so all you can do is to ask them whether they can implement it. If not, you will have to find another hosting service - ask about this before committing yourself, and if they say no, or don't know what it is, find another host. -

I've set up a feed here: http://www.fearlessradio.com/feeds/recentpodcasts.xml and tried to submit it to iTunes and it gives me the error: the feed has no episodes
I can subscribe manually to the feed as well and have no trouble downloading the podcasts.

When I look at the itunes store instead of the applications or music filling the window horizontally it diplays it as a list vertically with pages of music or applications. Can somebody tell me how this can be changed?
The feed does validate (the minor error - 'missing atom link' - needn't concern you).
I can't check on iTunes at the moment: you say that you changed the feed URL. When you did this did you follow the procedure outlined here? - basically inserting an 'itunes:new-feed-url' tag into the old feed with the new feed's URL?
If you didn't do this, then iTunes is still looking for the old feed, and if it doesn't exist simply won't update further. To cure this you need to reinstate the old feed with the tag as described, referring to the new feed, and wait (anything up to two weeks) for it to take effect. (Either that or revert to updating the feed at the old URL).
If you did follow that procedure then either it hasn't taken, or something else is wrong: I will try to look into that tomorrow morning. -

I thought about posting under Silja´s thread, my question is similar, still it is its own case. Here is my problem.
Two weeks ago I posted my first podcast, through iWeb, and yes, it was a no-brainer, running Macishly smooth. I got the message that my feed - http://www.perlevennen.no/utropmisjon/Podcast_/rss.xml - was succesfully added and so on. And the URL-link to my iTunes-page is http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=303534570 .
Well, two days ago I published my second podcast, I vaguely remember something like "it had already been submitted" - and that was the message I received on the initial submission. I tried to troubleshoot this my self before going to this discussion forum - testing my feed. As a freshman to the art of podcasting I encountered several confusing experiences. I did the "Advanced-menu-testing-subscribe to podcast. So I here is my situation: When I subscribe to my own podcast, both my episodes are downloaded to my Mac. But my main-page at iTunes shows only one epidsode. I did a check on my feed, and Mr. Feed Validator was not so happy to see me; this was his feedish reproach -

So, anyone, I have no idea and would be really thankful to get some perspectives to where I am. My question is: Is the feed constant? Do I use the same each time I submit a new podcast? As an iWeb08-user, can I expect similar troubles in the future? My new podcast is undoubtly

Morten Chr. AbarhamsenWhen you add an episode to a podcast, you don't re-submit: you simply update the feed (in the case of iWeb you add the new episode and republish). That's all you need to do. Both your episodes are available when subscribing from the 'subscribe' button on the iTunes Store page (because subscribing refers directly to your feed), but that page hasn't yet updated. It usually takes 24-48 hours for a new episode to appear in the store; it can longer, but I should give it at least 48 hours from the time you uploaded the episode before you start worrying.
The errors Feedvalidator has thrown up mostly don't matter. iWeb seems to leave out the 'title' but the 'iTunes: name' is there and shows in the Store. The UTF-8 message happens a lot and doesn't seem to matter to iTunes. Some of these errors only matter if you want the feed to be subscribable in Atom feed readers. -
I got mac keeper to clean up some files, and now I cant open Final cut pro 6. because of missing files. it is loading, at Atom strand.HD file, before it says that the program suddenly shutted down. the atom strand.HD is a file, that is connected to motion. if I put motion in the garbage can, then final cut works, but if I take motion out of the garbage can again, then it doesn`t. arrrrr. shall I re install final cut or motion. or is there a better way to make it work, again????? !!!!
Well, best bet would be to reinstall FCP. I'd use the FCS REMOVER from digitalrebellion.com (free) to uninstall the app first, then reinstall from the DVD.

RichTech's Atomic Web Browser Missing From The App Store
Can anyone please check and see if they are able to locate and download this alternative browser on their iPad? I'm with a friend and we were trying to load apps on their new iPad and if you click on an outside link or try to search for it you get no results. It's like it's missing from the App store entirely.
Looks like Atomic Web browser was pulled from the App Store due to the use of private APIs in violation of Apple's policy:

Ran Windows 7 Check Disk on iPod - Songs Now Missing?
I posted this on another forum and didn`t get a response so I`ll ask it here:
Problem description: I connected my 80GB iPod Video to my netbook and Windows 7 came up asking me if I wanted to scan and fix problems on my iPod. I foolishly said okay and told it to, selecting both Automatically Fix File System Errors and Scan For and Attempt Recovery of Bad Sectors. It took about an hour to complete and afterwards when it connected in iTunes, it didn't recognize it despite recognizing it before check disk. I've connected it dozens of times to my netbook with no problems before today. iTunes began syncing (which it wasn't supposed to do) and freed up about 7GB of space on it before I realized what it was doing. Right now, in iTunes, Winamp and the iPod itself, no songs, videos, playlists or anything show up in it. iTunes claims 66GB is being taken up by "Other" with 7.5GB of "Free Space." Now, when I go into the iPod through windows explorer and go into the folder iPod_Control, all the music still seems to be there and I can listen to the songs in Winamp by opening them from iPod_Control, so why can't iTunes or the iPod find the files? Is there a good data recovery fix for this? Is there some hopefully easy fix I don't see?
Attempted fixes: Looked for iPod recovery programs, saw a trillion listed on Google of varying degrees of authenticity. Googled for ipod-related check disk problems and found a blog saying it erased his playcounts (oh no). Tried disconnecting and reconnecting iPod. Tried disconnecting, resetting and reconnecting iPod. Tried rebooting computer and reconnecting iPod. Tried connecting iPod to different computer it connected to before. Same story each time.
Recent changes: Windows 7 Check Disk, that's all I've done to it. It worked fine yesterday, last night and this morning until I ran Check Disk.
Operating system: 32-Bit Windows 7, evaluation copy, Build 7100.
System specs: Asus 1005HA: Intel Atom N280, 2GB Crucial Notebook Memory, Mobile Intel Express 945GME, 160GB HDD. iPod: Model MA448C, 5.5 Generation 80GB Video iPod, Software Version 1.3. iTunes Version 8.2.1.6

What would cause this to happen? Why can't anything see the songs unless I manually open them? okay so i tried everything from re-burns to usb install (which I could not complete because removable drives are not recognized by xp and I don't have a vista system). The problem for me ended up being because the DVD drive was plugged into the primary master ide channel. My hard drive for the unit i was installing windows on is sata and was configured as such (not bridged into IDE channel by bios). So in a nutshell it seems like the hard drive and the DVD drive are nit picky in regards to the IDE configuration of the drives themselves. This won't help for virtualization on a mac pro I realize but nonetheless is food for thought hopefully for all the people searching for " windows 7 install cd/dvd device driver missing " in their search engine!
Oh boy one more reason to love mac's

How can I insert the mysterious iPod Atom to make a movie iPod friendly?

THE PROBLEM:
I have several mp4 video files that iTunes won't sync to my iPod. They play well on QT, FrontRow and iTunes but then iTunes says "This video cannot be played on this iPod".
Yes! you know that message too...
We all have gotten that message before, even when we know the video will play perfectly on the iPod because it was encoded on H.264, AAC, etc, etc...
Doing a little research I came to the fact that the problem is that these videos are missing an "iPod Atom Tag" which tells iTunes that the video can actually be played on the iPod. Seems quite simple but wait, there is a catch...
Nobody knows how to insert this iPod Atom in the mp4 file!!!
I found a nice UNIX app called AtomicParsley which let's you edit these tags but then I'm missing the important information... The iPod Tag code and the value which is supposed to be set to...
THE QUESTIONS:
Does anyone here has any idea on how to push the iPod Atom inside the mp4 file? Will AtomicParsley do the job?
Which is the code of the iPod Atom? Is it uuid?
Which value should I assign to it?
Is there anything else I have to do to the files to make them iPod friendly?
Most people would say that the easiest way is to use Quicktime Pro to re-encode the files but then the files grow in size, they loose some quality and features and not to mention that it takes forever to re-encode them again...
I believe that this app, AtomicParsley can do the job if I know which tags to modify and the values I should set them to but that's the information I'm missing...
I would really appreciate if someone can point me into the right direction and give me a little help with this matter. Thank you very much!

Handbrake is a program that extracts the video from DVDs and encode it into a movie file, usually mp4 files like the ones I need to fix. It won't work with movie files that you already have on your computer.
Here is the deal again:
1 - I have mp4 files in my HD. I am not encoding from my DVDs.
2 - AtomicParsley is a program that can insert atoms in an mp4 file and it only takes a few seconds to do it and the movie itself remains untouched. I believe this tool will work fine but...
3 - I just need to know what to tell to AtomicParsley. That is the iPod Atom code which I think is "uuid" and the value it must have which I really have no idea... :P
Using this tool will insert the atom in a few seconds so I don't have to re-encode everything from scratch. Each encoding takes a few hours for a whole movie. Why spend many many hours re-encoding when you can solve the problem in a few minutes...
Again, thank you for your comment. I'll keep waiting for an answer and keep the re-encoding option as a last resource.

iPad running iOS 5 has on the menu bar only have 4 icons, being: back, forward, bookmarks, and the "add to bookmarks", but is missing an icon after the "add to bookmarks" arrow, that is a "show all open browser windows" icon. How do I get it in my safari?
What you are seeing is how Safari works now in iOS 5. There is no way to get that icon in Safari now. There other much better browsers available in the App Store. Look at iCab Mobile, Mercury, Atomic, ....
I have been running iOS 5x for so long now, that I don't even remember if that icon did appear in earlier iOS versions
