Missing Audio Channel, X

Hi Folks, having some trouble with my x-fi extreme gamer.
I cant get any sound out of my front right speaker, every other channel seems fine but that one is dead. I've tried it with a set of 5. speakers and also with a set of Medusa 5. headphones through an amplifier, always missing front right channel.
I have tried using several sets of cable, I've uninstalled the drivers, used Drivercleaner pro, reinstalled the drivers but no joy. I've had the case open, taken out the card, cleaned the card and pci slot with compressed air and reseated it. Nothing seems to enable that missing channel. Any advice would be appreciated.

Same problem, with my X-Fi gamer, and Logitech 5. speakers since a recent patch, right speaker intermintantly goes on and off in the middle of gaming and watching videos/music. It is not a wiring issue/problem with speakers, and not a mixer issue. Other than that no clue was to what it could be other that a recent change to drivers. (maybe a windows update or something recently?)Message Edited by danomite2k4 on -07-2008 0:5 PM

  • Missing audio channels on export

I have this weird problem. I want to render my Premiere CC (v7.2.1) project to an .mp4 file. But some audio channels are not audible in the export. They are audible when I preview the timeline, but gone after export. Some audio channels are present, but others are not.
This is a huge problem for me, since I need to finish this project. The problem appears to have started after I moved the project files over to other storage.
    Any clues?

    @shooternz
    Thanks for you suggestions.
I've tried creating a new sequence and copy the other sequence into it: no luck.
I've deleted the cache and render files: this worked! The audio is now back.
    Thanks for you help!

  • Missing one audio channel from MXF video

    Greetings,
I have a bunch of footage shot with a Canon XF300 camera. Two wireless lav mics were feeding into the camera. On the day, I was monitoring audio and am 100% certain that it was recorded correctly. I found a couple of unerased CF cards from the shoot and was able to verify that the audio is good when I pop the CF card into the camera.
However, when I transfer the footage to hard disk and attempt to play it out using either Premier Pro CS5, or VLC, I'm losing channel one of the audio. I've been attempting to troubleshoot, and have found a couple of references on the Web regarding missing audio channel 1 from MXF video files -- but nothing that is relevant to this situation.
I'm on Mac OS X 10.6.6 and am running Premiere Pro CS5 5.0.3. No video cards.
I've tried bringing the files in using: Finder, XF Utility and ShotPutPro. I'm copying the complete directory structure in all cases.
Has anyone seen this problem before? Any troubleshooting thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Cameron

It turns out that the MXF files are coming in with 2 mono audio tracks, and for some reason, in the clip viewer, one of the audio tracks doesn't play, but if you move the clip to the timeline, both audio channels can be heard. Ran into the same issue with Cineform encoded material coming in with two mono audio tracks. So I'm going to file a bug report.
Ah, OK... now I understand. No need to file a bug report; maybe a feature request, but a bug report isn't necessary. Here's why:
When you bring in clips with mono channels, by default, you only hear the first mono channel when playing back in the Source Monitor. If you toggle over to Audio Waveform view (click the Output button), you can select which of the channels (called "Tracks" which is a little silly, frankly) you want to monitor. Here's what this looks like:
This applies to any format that has mono channels. If you interpret the footage to stereo (you must do this before you use it in a sequence), you can listen to both channels at once. Of course, then you have to deal with the audio as stereo, which is not always what you want. That's why I do a lot of my editing with MXF material (primarily P2) that has multiple mic sources in a sequence, where I can monitor more than one source channel.
In any event, that's why this isn't really a bug; it might be a poor design decision, but it's otherwise working correctly. I'd definitely suggest making a feature request for a "Mixed" or "Plus" audio source option in the Source Monitor. I'm going to do the same.
Anyway, I hope that helps explain the issue. Good luck!

  • Can't export audio channel

    Hi everyone,
I have this big  and long project (1h30) I'm trying to export and it takes a while to do it (4-5h).
I tried couple format and I finally exported it with MPEG -> HDTV 720.
Problem the audio channel is missing. as it's really long to export it again, I tried to export only the audio part but I always get the error "Error commpiling move. Unknow error".
Expert if I'm exporting with aac format but this gives me a really ugly  kinda noise.
I tried with only the 2 1st minutes of the movie and it exported well.
Any suggestion? Please this is kinda of urgent!
    I'm using PE 10
    Thanks!

With "Error compiling movie," I would start with the links in this Tips & Tricks article: Got "Error Compiling Movie?" This Might Help
    Good luck,

  • **Missing Audio when Exporting to HD**

    Hi,
I have been trying to find a solution to missing audio for sometime and there are many discussions on this forum regarding this topic. I have an external drive and in the past I have lost audio, I guess because the event and the project were on different drives, I have resolved that. Also, the problem that I have is not related to the speed of a clip or that I have more than 10GB in my events (I don't). There have been other audio issues and I have always been able to resolve them but this one has me stumped! I thought that perhaps the graphics card was not up to the task but this has just happened and now I am confused.
I have just completed a project that was only 3 minutes long 403.5 MB. The movie was imported to iMovie from my video camera and listed as an Event, I also used movie clips and stills from iPhoto, I added titles and transitions. I then exported the movie to Media Browser (mobile size) so that I could import it into Garage Band to make an soundtrack. I then exported the soundtrack as an AAC to iTunes (as I have read that there are issues with MP3 and audio missing). I then opened iMovie and dragged the soundtrack into my project and republished the completed project to Media Browser in the HD size. No problem all works well, I was really happy! Onwards I thought and get another 2010 video finished, wrong!
On my next project I have done everything that I have described above, this time the project is only 349.8 MB (smaller). The audio on the HD size has failed. I have copied all the files onto my desktop and reimported everything. I have tried exporting using Quicktime or as a Movie but still no audio. I have found that the 'consolidate media' is grayed out when I have all my clips in the project editor, because they are all on my hard drive. As soon as I add the iTunes track that I have exported from Garageband the consolidate media option becomes available. If I select this I then get the message that the iTunes track cannot be copied as it is not on my hard drive! It is on my hard drive (I disconnected all external drives so that there would be no confusion!).
I cannot understand how the first project worked and the second smaller project failed using the same process! I thought that I would share this information with the forum in the hope that perhaps a solution can be found. I am able to publish the second project to my mobile me in the large and mobile sizes, it would be good to have the HD size for a DVD. There seems to be no logical pattern to the audio disappearing on export. Your thoughts or help would be very welcome.
    Kind regards,
    Watchthebat.

In Soundtrack if you have selected to use only channel 2 of a stereo file (right click on stereo file and select mono->channel2) you will hear channel 1 when you export. Its a massive bug.
Could that be the source of your problems? The bug can certainly create exported mixes that sound like stuff is missing.
There's a recent thread around here about this.

  • CS3 audio channel problem when importing to CS5

I have an HD P2 file-based project which I edited on CS3 which I now need to open in CS5. The P2 footage does not import and I get the following message:
'The selected file cannot be linked because it has 1 audio channel(s) and the clip has 2 audio channel(s)'
I tried importing the project instead of opening it and I get the same message.
I have also tried to offline all the material and see if I can re-link them. Unfortunately I cannot re-link the bin footage as I renamed them all to something meaningful for organisational purposes (eg 'Bill_says_hello' ) as opposed to the rather random naming of P2 files (such as 000R4X.mxf) so I don't know what bin file links with what P2 file, and there are about 2000 of them!
So either there is a way to view the original names of the bin files so I can match them up, or better still,  another easier way to retrieve them or open them up automatically.
Without a solution to this, I have just lost months of work so any pointers would be much appreciated.

    Thanks for the suggestion, Simon.
But finding to the first missing file brings up that message about the number of audio channels available which is still puzzling me, andthen  making me link to them one by one. Not only is it tedious but I know it was stereo before and now it's mono !
I am sure when we recorded it our excellent sound guy would not made it mono so for some reason CS5 is not recognising the full gamut of sound channels recorded. So I am losing a lot of the sound, which is not good to say the least. I may have to start a new thread as to discover why.

  • Enabling AirPlay to multiple speakers causes audio channels on local computer to playback incorrectly

iTunes has an audio bug that has been a problem for the last couple releases and it's been driving me crazy lately.  The problem is streaming audio to any AirPlay devices from iTunes causes iTunes to for lack of a technical term "munge" the audio placing back out of the local audio output.  It seems like stereo audio stops playing out of the local audio output and instead either the left or right audio channel plays back out of both speakers.  The stereo channel audio playing out of the AirPlay device appears to be unaffected.
    This can be reproduced by:
    1. launch iTunes when AirPlay output device is available (AirPort Express, AppleTV)
    2. open the Multiple Speakers panel
    3. make sure both "Computer" and one other AirPlay output device are checked
    4. playback an audio track you are familiar with that has clear stereo separated audio (something with a vocal track with one singer mostly on the left channel and another mostly on the right channel is a good option)
    5. the playback will sound odd, like parts of the recording aren't present - vocals quiet or missing; guitar riff quiet or missing
    6. uncheck all AirPlay output devices so that only "Computer" is selected
    7. listen to the audio track again, it will sound normal
-- if you identify where the audio has missing elements you can click the AirPlay output device on and off in the Multiple Speakers panel and hear the elements magically appear / disappear
A great track to test with the The Beatles / Revolver / Taxman.  From 1:12 - 1:25 there is a guitar solo.  With the AirPlay device on this solo is completely missing and the track just has bass, drums, and rhythm guitar.
I'm not certain this has to do with stereo audio channel issues on the local playback, but obviously as soon as the AirPlay streaming code kicks it, something with the audio channels on iTunes is getting hosed.  It's only been an issue for the last 6-9 months for me and audio streaming worked great for years before that.
Can others reproduce this problem?  If so, Apple really needs to escalate this for a fix because using AirPlay pretty much ruins the quality of audio output currently which makes me never want to use it.

don't know if you are still looking at this thread, i hope so.
I have a similar problem, and I wondered if you might help. I have a macbook (2008) running the latest version of itunes (just updated) and Airplay tho with a pretty old router. (I got a relatively new one for the network just a few months ago but the one hooked up to my amplifier is an old airport-- the square ones-- I have had for years -- it's linked to the amp via the 3.5mm output jack)
I seem to run into this on the "Rubber Soul" album, and I checked it agsint the copies from iTunes and even ripping another edition of the CD. The vocal tracks seem to disappear, like the guys are singing at the bottom of a well. "Run For Your Life" for example, the verses Lennon sings are almost inaudible. On Norwegian Wood it sounds like they are in an echo chamber a mile away.
So, on all my other music it seems fine, but I wasn't sure if Steve Jobs hated "Rubber Soul" or what.
I haven't duplicated this on other music -- tho just now I noticed some weird effects on the opening track of Sgt. Pepper. Only half the vocals are on, the lyrics by Lennon are again near-absent) I might try to see what happens when I play the mono version of my Jefferson Airplane CD.
Is there a software fix? Should I be linking my airport in some other fashion to the amp? (The amp is pretty old, I got it in what, 1998?) Should I be using the USB link somehow to the audio out? Is thi an effect of weird stereo mixes of the 1960s?
BTW I am not trying to tream to multiple devices or anythign, just to the one.

  • Itunes 12 showing no audio channels

I like iTunes 12 but I miss being able to see the audio channels when you click "get info". Anyone know how to get this back so I can see what is mono, stereo and / or 5.1.
    Cheers

Does apple read these forums? This is a huge inconvenience for me!
I'm loving Yosemite so far; aside from its many bugs, it is looking to be a decent build of the operating system in due time.
I understand they want the OS to feel more relatable to iOS, but this is still a where a majority of working professionals do their work. There is a rarely a reason to remove something without giving the consumer the option of bringing it back. Save the simple minded operating systems to the iOS devices. I've said since day one, the iPad will replace computers for the average user. Let OS X stay OS X, and lets wait a few more years for everyone else to ditch their laptops and desktops in favor of easy to use tablets.

  • Can't separate audio channels into tracks

I have four channel audio that was recorded for a short film - a wireless lav for each of the two actors, a boom, and an empty channel. I have it setup as four mono and can tick the box that turns a channel on or off but I am unable to separate this into individual tracks in order to edit their levels individually or export for my sound editor.
The sound was synced in FCP X to the video for each clip, so what I have tried is selecting "break apart clip items" for a clip, which breaks the four channel audio out into one dual stereo track. Whether I change this to four mono again or not the end result is the same - I select it and choose "break apart clip items" again, at which point then I get this:
Every time. Three tracks, one of which is positioned ahead of the other two and goes on for what would be the total duration of the take. If you click any of these tracks the Channel Configuration is grey and says "Audio Channel Configuration is unavailable for the selected clips". If you solo any of the clips it sounds like it's just a mixed version of the four original channels.
I've tried going into the timeline of a synced clip and breaking apart in there but I get the same result as above.
I need to be able to access, edit, and export these channels as individual tracks. If all I can get is a premixed version of the four tracks then how am I supposed to do a sound edit and mix?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I have tried both copying the tracks to a new sequence and also tried the Preferences Managers tool (thanks for that - great tool!). Still no luck. Any other suggestions?
I've attached a screenshot in case there is something obvious that I'm missing.

  • Exported file sounds different inside Audition CS6 - audio channel mapping problem?

Hi guys. I've been working on some voice reels today, and for some reason my finished and exported files sound different to how they sound in Audition - basically, the music tracks increase in volume whenever the voice actor isn't speaking. As mentioned, this isn't happening in the Multitrack session, just when playing back the exported track in a third-party app, and has only been happening today. I've tried messing around with the Audio Channel Mapping and Audio Hardware settings in the Preferences, without any joy. I'm suspecting something's got messed up on the sound card, but just wanted to check that I haven't missed something painfully obvious inside of Audition!
    Specs:
    Windows 7 Home Premium, SP1, 64-bit
AMD Phenom II X64 2.8 GHz, 8GB RAM
Adobe Creative Suite 6 Production Premium
    M-Audio Delta Audiophile 2496
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX650Ti 2GB

Can't answer that without quite a bit more information about the third-party apps, what exactly you're exporting, workflow, etc. It won't be a mapping issue though - that will only affect the output of Audition to a hardware device.
But if you are exporting a single file with everything on, and it plays okay in Windows Media Player, for instance, then whatever is happening isn't with Audition, but whatever you are putting it back into. It sounds as though some sort of auto-leveling system is at work - and Audition wouldn't do that unless set up very specifically to do so.

  • Get 4 audio channels out through SDI whit BlackMagic UltraStudio Express

    Hi,
We have some issues with the Blackmagic UltraStudio Express and Premiere Pro.
We need to get out 4 audio channels through SDI for different broadcast and news feeds. We can't do that with the UltraStudio Express on different Mac Book Pro (one on OS 10.9 and one on 10.8.5) with Premiere pro CC and Premiere pro CS6. (We have try with the driver 9.9.3 and 9.6.8). The only thing we manage to monitor out of the UltraStudio is 2 audio channels.
We know it "could" work as :
    - We are able with the same setup to get 4 audio channels via FCP 7.0
    - We are able with a Mac Pro OS10.8.5 + Blackmagic Decklink HD Extreme 2 (driver 9.6.8) to get 4 audio channels with Adobe Premiere CC
Do you have maybe a solution for this ?
    Have a nice day !

  • My ipod's music quality is inferior. It doesnt have the surround sound/ left and right audio channel unlike my brothers ipod? is there a problem with the chip?

I have an ipod touch 4g (8GB), I got this about 2.5 months ago, the same time my brother get his. My problem is that I noticed that audio quality is better on his device than mine. I have been listening to music and had different music devices before (non-Apple product and mobile phone) and the quality of music is better when I used to listen to those devices as well as my brother's ipod touch. Im referring to the left and right audio channels. Im not so good about the technical stuff but the best explanation I can give you is in a music or a movie, there's an effect wherein you can here a sound only at the left ear phone/speaker that you cant hear at the right earphone/speaker. I mean for example in a song, a guitar intro can be heared only at the left
ear while the background music plays on the other ear. Or when theres and echo effect on the song that alternates sound on the left and right ear. I hope youre getting what Im trying to say. Im bothered that my ipod is fake or has an internal problem on the chips or something because I didnt bought this at an Apple Center/Mac Center. I bought it on a retailer. I am not able to visit any store or Genius Bar  or contact an apple specialist through phone because of my work schedule and work load.  I have contacted the retailer before when I tried to return it for replacement or repair but he told me that it is under Apple's warranty, not theirs. I do hope that I can get a help from you because I want to really enjoy my device. Thank you and Im looking forward for the responce/assistance form you.

I suggest you don't apply pressure to the screen - it's a Touch - you touch the screen not push it.

  • How do I export from FCP to a QuickTime file with multiple audio channels?

I'm delivering a project where the first step is to generate an HD Cam SR master, which I will be doing at a post-production lab. They will then do a QC check for me. To generate this HD Cam SR master, they need to me to bring in my 98-minute long movie on a firewire hard drive, in five equal parts -- QuickTime files. From these five QT files, the lab will then be creating an HD Cam SR master that will have...
dialogue on tracks 1 and 2
effects on tracks 3 and 4
music on tracks 5 and 6
    MY QUESTION
    a) I don't see any way to separate these audio tracks accordingly in the FCP menu for QuickTime export. Does anyone have any experience doing this?
    b) And does anyone know the most efficient way to combine timeline audio tracks for this purpose? I have my dialogue sitting on the first FOUR audio tracks, actually. To deliver this film, I'll need to crush these four audio tracks to two, as listed above. I could generate an AIFF file, I suppose, import it back onto the timeline, sync it up, and then re-export along with the visuals to make the final QT file, but this seems like a generation loss.
    thanks,
    Shanked
PS the movie is made up of footage from a Sony PMW EX1. I used the codec "XDCAM 1080 24p 35mbs VBR" for editing in FCP. I'll either export to QT using this same codec or switch to "Apple ProRes" if my machine can somehow maintain the sync.

The following will answer both your questions a) and b).
Click on your master timeline and press cmd+0 (zero) to bring up Sequence Settings, then click on the Audio Outputs tab on the right. Click on the Outputs option and change it to 6. You can leave them as Stereo pairs.
Now, back on your timeline, you need to make sure all your audio is organised so each track. A1, A2, A3, A4 etc has all the relevant media on it.
Then, on the left of the timeline you see the Destination toggle buttons, then you see the Padlocks to lock tracks, then you have the Toggle Auto Select squares. If you right-click on the Toggle Auto Select squares you bring up a little sub-menu, at the top of this list you'll see Audio Outputs, which will show the stereo channels for that particular track. As you've changed the number of Audio Outputs in the Sequence Settings, the list will show: 1&2, 3&4, 5&6. You just tick whichever channels you want.
In your case, you have dialogue on the first 4 tracks, no problem, just go down through tracks 1,2,3 and 4 as described above and assign these to Audio Outputs 1&2.
Then just go down through your music and effects audio tracks and assign them accordingly.
Now, when you export your timeline as a self-contained media file, it will have different audio channels.
I hope that makes sense. When you change the number of audio outputs as described in the first step, I believe the rest of it is fairly self explanatory, once you know where the settings are.

  • Help using multiple audio channels for one video

    Hi,
I have a video file with 3 audio files (stereo (.wav), 5.1 surround (.AC3), and commentary (.wav).
I have placed these on the time line of the video track, but now I need to have buttons to target each of them from a menu. However, when is choose a buttons target, is doesn't give me the option of which audio channel to play (A1/A2/A3 etc).
Is this possible with just one track, or do I need 3 (each with a different audio file as A1)?
    Hope you can help! cheers.
    Tim

    There is a tutorial on setting this up here;
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/dvd_languagenattress.html
BTW I would very strongly suggest to compress your WAV files to stereo AC3 files. It will reduce your overall bandwidth, and you will have a disc that will less problems in playing.

  • MXF Missing Audio in Media Browser, or Is it?

Happy Fourth of July to all my American friends.  Did you know it's going to be the Forth of July up in Canada and everywhere else in the world tomorrow too?   Can't tell you how many times I've been asked if we have the Forth of July in Canada.  Duh, of course!
So I've got a weird thing going on.  I use Sony Clipbrowswer to cut up my BPAV files and trim everything down and then I convert them to MXF (I personally HATE the BPAV folder structure).  I look at the clips in Media Browser in PP and I get perfect video, but no audio.
I then import the clips into the project and look at them in the Source Monitor.  Same thing.  Video, yes; audio no.
I drag the exact same clips into the timeline and they come in with 4 channels of audio (huh?) and BOTH the video and audio work fine.  Not sure what's going on.  I would really like to see AND HEAR them in the media browswer and source monitor so I can set my in/out points.
Any ideas?  BPAVs of the same files act normal, just not their MXF sister files.
Happy Forth to everyone else in the world too!

    Any ideas?
Yep. The Source Monitor has the annoying limitation of only being able to preview one audio channel of a multi-track clip at a time. So, even though your source footage has four mono channels, by default, the Source Monitor will only preview Track 1. You can change that to Track 2, Track 3, etc., but no matter what, you can't hear a mixed monitor output.
What I suspect is happening is that your first audio track doesn't have any audio, or it's very low. When you drop the clip wholesale into a sequence, you can hear the audio because you're getting all four tracks mixed. If you click the Output button in the Source Monitor and change to Audio Waveform view, you can use the track selector dropdown to choose which audio track you want to preview. Unfortunately, this isn't "sticky," so you'll need to do it each time you open a multi-mono clip, if your primary audio isn't on Track 1.
I've made several feature requests for improvements to this functionality. I work a lot with P2 MXF, and this has driven me half-mad; whenever I interview, I put my primary audio (lav) on Track 2. Previewing and marking up clips like this is a bear without proper audio monitoring.
    Anyway... does that fix it?
