It uses "Realtek High Definition Audio" and Microsoft says it's compatible but many people say no:

Missing Audio Driver in Windows 8.1 64 bit

I have a HP Pavilion m7750n that originally was installed with Windows Vista. It's had it's hard drive replaced many times over the years, and now it's running on Windows 8.1 64 bit.
The problem is: the audio driver went missing somehow
I can't find it on Device Manager (no "Unknown Devices" show up on the menu)
The only "Sound, video, and game comtrollers" drivers that show up are:
1. Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1600
2. NVIDIA High Definition Audio
3. NVIDIA Virtual Audio Device
All of this happened after I used the "Refresh" option Windows 8 has. The right sound driver showed up on Device Manager and worked before I did this.
On sound options it says the only audio devices I have are some HDMI outputs. The only way to get sound out of my PC anymore is to hook it up to my TV from a HDMI cable connected to the HDMI port on my video card.
Does anyone know how I can find the audio driver so i can use my desktop speakers again?

Missing audio driver after upgrade/Skype install

Hi,
A few days a ago I fresh installed Arch 64b/KDE 4.5.1 on a new PC and fully updated it.
During the installation, I remember alsa has worked fine
Yesterday I've installed Skype from repositories (inc 32b libraries), and upgraded to x-server 1.90 (as part of a full upgarde).
Ever since, upon login KDE complaints about a missing audio device (which it did NOT before), Skype offers only Pulse audio (and does NOT work), and my on board audio driver is missing.
Although on-board audio IS ENABLED at the BIOS, the on board audio modules are NOT loaded as indicated by the following:
lspci | grep Audio
00:14.2 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA) (rev 40)
01:00.1 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc Redwood HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 5600 Series]
(I've an ATI 5600 PCIe graphic card which includes also an HDMI output, and an on-board Realtek ACL 889 audio controller).
Please advise how to restore full audio functionality from on-board controller?

TA48312 Powerbook G4 10.5.8 after updates for Garage band lost audio driver

I got Garage band to boot up along with protools LE 8.0 but i lost I/O audio driver from system preference and use of usb for protools hardware..

This was one of the long list of issues that arose when Leopard was first released. If you have a search through the older threads relating to Leopard issues, of which there are thousands, you may find an answer. My suggestion would be to go back to Tiger. I have given up on Leopard twice and will not go back on a G4. There are just too many of these 'funky' issues. The disc utility is what killed Leopard for me.

? Hi, I just upgraded my Dell dimension 4300 which was running on Windows XP pro to Windows 7 32 bit. Everything is working fine except my sound. I cannot see my audio driver through system information or anything. So I had to open my CPU tower and found out that my sound card is Sound blaster li've model CT4780. Can anyone please tell me how do I use this card with windows 7. I don't know if it will work with Windows Vista driver and I couldn't find a driver for it. I went to dell's website and that driver didn't work, probably was not compatible with Windows 7. Now in my Device manager setting I see these drivers with question mark
- Ethernet controller
- PCI simple communication controller
- Multimedia audio controller
My bios is A04. Can anyone please help me with that. I searched everywhere possible for a solution, but couldn't find one. I will really appreciate if someone can save me.

You need a lot more than just the non-existant driver for your sound card, you also need motherboard/chipset drivers and there aren't any for that either. You computer has the Intel 845 chipset in it,

which Intel declared "end of life" a few years ago. Without a working chipset driver it doesn't matter whether you have working sound drivers or not.
In your case you would be far better off holding off on Windows 7 until such a time as you have a new computer that actual has Windows 7 support.

Audio driver error, code 10 error & Media device missing Error in Presario C772TU

I am having presario C7712TU model laptop, recently i reinstalled my Xp OS service pack 2.
after that i reinstalled all drivers, but it showing some error in audio device driver.
the error code is 10 and it is telling "media device missing"
I have installed UAA driver + conexant HD audio driver
Moreover i couldnt find any wireless LAN icon in network connection tab.
could any body help me..Since i am in Germany..Now helpless!

Garageband 10- "system overload, audio driver unable to process info in time"

I have a project with 3 tracks, drums (via the new drummer feature), guitar (recorded with rocksmith cable), and vocal track (recorded with the standard built in mic). I put it on ITunes and can listen to it fine on there but I want to edit it more. I didn't have any issues with playback until yesterday when I got the "disk to slow or system overload" message. I got that to go away by saving the project in a different folder. Now today I'm getting the "system overload, audio driver unable to process info in time" error. I've heard RAM is the problem and that I should increase my RAM? I brought up the activity monitor app but it doesn't say anything about how to increase my RAM, can you help me out? Activity monitor reads as follows...
Physical mem- 4.00 GB
Memory Used- 3.98 GB
Virtual Memory- 10.01 GB
Swap Used- 1.33 GB
App Memory- 1.08 GB
File Cache- 224.5 MB
Wired Memory- 1.12 GB
Compressed- 1.56 GB

It may be a problem of not enough RAM, yes. 4GB is not much. It will help, if you close all other apps, before recording, also restarting the Mac will help, if you are using any incompatible, older applications, that may have a memory leak.
If your Mac can support more memory, try to upgrade the RAM: Which model of Mac do you have, and which MacOS X version?
In Yosemite you can see how to upgrade the RAM, if you open the  menu in the upper left corner of the screen. Select "About this Mac", then click the "Memory" tab in the panel: It will show you the memory slots and if you can extend it. There is also a link to "Memory Upgrade Instructions".

Installing Logic Pro 8 / System Drive or Audio Drive

I've just bought a new imac (2.4 GHz / 2GB) & Logic Pro 8, I'm going to buy a faster drive for recording audio but should i also install logic to the faster audio drive? or maybe just the extra content (sampled instruments) & keep the application on the standard system drive?

Personally I do have samples on the same drive as my audio but I've seen this is an area of contention. I think the consensus is that if you have both audio and sampled instruments (also audio) running off the same drive, it won't be as quick as running one or the other off a separate drive. That may be true but it depends on the speeds of both drives etc. I tend to keep all media or content that will stream on a drive other than the system drive (except things that refuse to install elsewhere) and I've had good performance so far.

Missing System Prefrences

I wondered if anyone could help, I'm seem to missing the the System Prefrences Application, I've either Trashed it or it's just gone missing. Any ideas how I can get it back?

Restoring Lost OS X Files
If you erase or otherwise "lose" an OS X system application or utility (such as Mail or Disk Utility, for example) you can restore them without having to reinstall OS X.
Download the shareware utility Pacifist. Read the documentation. Use Pacifist to extract a fresh copy of the missing application from the file archives on your OS X Installer disc. The file archives are usually found on the installer disc in the /System/Installations/ folder.
After restoring the application you need to reinstall the OS X Combo Updater for the version of OS X you currently have installed. This assures the new copy of the application is updated to the current version.
Lastly, it's a good idea to repair permissions.

Thanks for the answer. I just wrote a long reply but somehow I managed to remove it, I'll do a shorter verison instead.
I know this has been discussed elsewhere, I mean my first post starts with me saying just that. I was unsure however if that discussion was applicable to my system, hence my post. I know that KMS isn't enabled by default thats why I wrote about it in my initial post , trying both with and without KMS. The acpi_brightness=vendor was the first thing I tried, but I noticed no difference so I removed it again, and that was part of the reason why I posted this here, instead of in other posts.
Anyway, I found out that I can manipulate the file /proc/acpi/video/GFX0/LCD/brightness in order to manually change the brightness. So I wrote a script that steps up and down in brighness level, so everything works ok now. Actually after your post I tried adding that acpi_brightness=vendor in my menu.lst again, and that breaks my script and the Fn-up/down buttons still doesn't work. The /proc/acpi/video/GFX0/LCD/brightness file now just says "<not applicable>", or something similar.
A final weird thing is that when I manually change the brightness to somthing other than 100, the Fn-up/down buttons start to work, but in a buggy way. They just step either down to 0 or up to 100 without intermediate steps. Once the brightness is back at 100, the buttons stop working again. I tried to fix this by adding my scripts to handler.sh in /etc/acpi/, but it still works weird. It is as though something else is also listening on these buttons?
Hmm...this wasn't so short after all, but anyhow things work ok so I'll just be patient and wait to see what happens when the new kernel hits the repos.

Last night I was watching a movie with my brother, with the audio increased, thanks to VLC.
Today, my audio driver is gone. What's left is something called Digital Out, which my computer tells me has no output controls.
What do I do? This has never happened before, and I have no idea why it is happening now. I am running OS X Lion 10.7.2.
Also, my recovery HD for Lion is gone as well, so i can't boot up from there to try to fix my problem, unless there is a new way to get to the recovery HD that I am unaware of. Help would be GREATLY appreciated, thanks.

Beats Audio Driver missing on HP Pavilion 13 x360 a110dx

I recently installed a SSD in my laptop and downloaded all drivers from HP. When I installed the Realtek HD Audio driver from the support page, the beats audio software did not install with it. Where can I get the beats audio driver for my laptop? Also, I do not want to have to use the recovery partition on the old hard drive (also I should not be forced to do so as that is an insult to any HP customer).

Decompress driver audio Conexant CX20468-31 AC97 and Equalizer with the 7-Zip software.
Once installed, do a right click on the file sp30578.exe, select 7-Zip/extract the files and then click OK.
Force the installation of the driver manually:
In the device manager, right click on the audio controller, and select Update driver.
Select install from a list or specific location Do not search. I will choose the driver to install.
Click on next, Have Disk, and browse.
Select the cpl3085a.inf file in the uncompressed folder sp30578, and then click Open.
Click on OK, next and finish.
Restart the computer.

Need to reinstall Soundmax audio driver .I have a Touchsmart 300-1020. I have an updated version of windows 8.1. I let a third party try to update drivers. Screwed up everything. Did a restore and now no audio driver. Help pleaase.
