Missing audio from MPEG-2 file!

I attempted to capture some video from a Panasonic DV camera (firewire) and even with "Record Now", it would abort after a few seconds. I then imported the video on my PC using Pinnacle Studio 10 as a MPEG file, which worked, and it plays back fine with Quicktime. When I copied it through my network to the Mac, it would play OK in Quicktime, but when I imported it in FC Pro Studio and tried to drop it into the timeline, it did not detect that there was audio present. Since I can hear it through Quicktime, I am at a loss as to what to try next. Any thoughts?

Hi:
Just to check if it's something related with FCP or with a real mac compatibility. Just create a new project and try capturing. Read the help, it's pretty easy. If you can captyre with iMovie but cannot with FCP, that's a start for tracing the problem.

  • Logic missing audio from .band/media file?!

I recently tidied a folder in which my bands recordings are stored. Having moved to Logic Pro at the start of the year I deleted the original Garageband files from which some of the logic projects must have been originally imported from. Is there any way to recover these audio files? Sadly I had already emptied my trash before I realised the grievousness of my error.
Any help at all would be seriously appreciated as this is over 9 months work which has gone missing!

Without knowing which version of Logic you are using, it's hard to say but assuming you are using Logic Pro 9
    You can try two things...
    1) Go to the Logic Pro Menu bar... Click on Logic Pro and choose Download additional Content
    2) Re-install Garageband.....
Reindex your loops in Logic after doing either of these things... and then test.
If that doesn't work after trying both methods, reindex GB's loops if you tried the reinstall GB route.. and then test in Logic again.
Once you have done all of these two things (or just #1) i would also suggest you reindex Spotlight if the missing files do not appear automatically in Logic's projects..

    Finally as a tip:
You need to start making backups and frankly Time Machine with an external HD is probably the quickest and easiest (and cheapest) way of doing this.. Then, if you ever delete files accidentally again, it is easy to find those files and restore them using the Time Machine interface.
    Hope this helps..

  • No Audio on MPEG-1 files since upgrade to 7.0.2

I recently upgraded to QT 7.0.2 as well as having to re-install DVD Studio Pro 3 (and did them in that order). I have QT Pro.
Since then I can't hear any audio from Muxed MPEG1 files (so, lot's of stuff online) although the EQ meter in Quicktime is still registering the sound. Additionally, the MPEG1 files playback really choppy and usually freeze (the image quality looks a bit rough too).
    All other formats are fine.
I do have some DivX components, but had removed them. FYI, this is the list of components installed (including the DivX ones):
    3ivx D4 4.5.1 for OSX
    AC3 Codec.component
    AppleIntermediateCodec.component
    DivX 5.component
    DVCPROHDCodec.component
    FCP Uncompressed 422.component
    FFusion.component
    LiveType.component
    Toast Video CD Support.qtx
    I have so far tried:
Using the 7.0.1 re-installer (no joy there)
    Re-updating again to 7.0.2
Removing the DivX components (no joy there)
Ensuring the Pro Apps update was installed (fixed another bug in DVDSP, but not the MPEG1 issue)
Ensuring the latest update of DVDSP 3 (don't have the need for 4).
Anyone got any ideas? It's a real pain.
(My next thing will be to roll back to QT 6) and work my way up again.

    For me the fix worked at the 64KHz - 2ch/24bit setting (iMac G5, 1.8GHz, 768MB RAM, QT7.0.3).
But, I must say, it's quite unacceptable on Apple's part not to make sure to notify those who update to 7.x.x in good faith and trust that there is this tiny change needed in some settings. I spent several hours downloading re-installers, trying to roll back to QT6.5.2, and then this wouldn't work, and I had to go back up, download third-party software to use with my muxed mpg's, and, while doing all this, suffer my first real (and frightening...) black-screen crash after more than a year of use.

  • IPhone 4S keeps playing audio from a video file that is no longer on my phone.

If I'm listening to music and try to change tracks or pause with the earbud buttons the music fades out and starts playing audio from a video file. It will only play about 3-4 seconds and then stop. This also will happen when double clicking the home button to try and change tracks. When I do that the track skipping buttons won't work and there's no title for the short bit of audio that plays. The only way to get music to start playing again is to go into music and press play again. The music I had been listening to is sitting there paused. The audio from the mystery video file still sometimes plays even when you're in music and the only way you would know is the little play icon at the top right part of the screen. I have removed every video off of my phone and it still does it. This is really frustrating.

Sounds like a bad battery.  You'll need to bring the phone into Apple for evaluation.
I'm sure you've been using your phone as designed and properly backing up your data, so you should have minimal, if any data loss should the phone need to be replaced.

  • Downloading audio from a video file from iTunes?

I have a 40G 4th Gen click wheel iPod (no color or video). Is there a way to download just the audio from a video file that I have in iTunes?

I use Steve's method all of the time, and edit the Audio output in Adobe Audition. You will want to Export/Share to PCM/WAV @ 48KHz 16-bit, and keep that format both going and coming back into PrE. Remember that you will be working with an Audio file, that is the full (or almost) Duration of the Timeline. When you Import that edited Audio file, give the program a few moments to Conform that newly Imported PCM/WAV for editing. I suggest not touching the computer, until Conforming has completed 100%, and the little progress bar in the lower-right of the GUI has disappeared. If the Imported Audio file is short, and your computer is fast, you might not even see that progress bar, but the Conforming has taken place, just the same.
I like to keep the original Audio on its Audio Track(s), and just use Window>Audio Mixer to Mute that/those Track(s), leaving only my edited Audio on its own Track un-Muted. This is a "fail-safe," just in case I change my mind along the way, and wish to revert to the original Audio for some reason. It is much easier to Mute-Unmute, than to gather up all of that original Audio again.
    Good luck, and happy editing,
    Hunt

  • Can I  rip the audio from a video file?

I have a video file with a band singing on it. I have an ipod nano, so I can't import the video with the singing onto my ipod. Is there anyway to rip the audio from the video file and put that onto my ipod?
    -Thanks

Open the video in Quicktime Player.
    Select the Export menu item.
Change the Export type to "Sound to Wave".
Save the WAV file somewhere with the default settings.
Load the WAV file into iTunes and use iTunes to convert it to AAC for the Nano.

  • Missing audio from half my video clips

Hi guys, i'm young & new here so sorry if i'm not very technical. Here goes:
At college we had to film interviews with a range of students. We filmed with a stadard digital camcorder on two days:
    * On the first day we filmed with the internal microphone from the camcorder.
    * On the second day we filmed with an external microphone.
Upon importing the clips into iMovie, the first day's filming clips are fine but the second day's filming clips are completely without sound! At first I thought it was a microphone issue, but upon watching the playback on the camcorder (and hearing that the audio was perfectly fine there) I realised that this was not the case. My second guess was that it was the computer's fault. But by recieving the same result on two different Macs, I realised this was not the case either.
So my latest guess is that it might be an issue with iMovie. Now, I've tried it on iMovieHD AND the most recent iMovie (with the new format) but the same happens on both versions.
Does anyone have any ideas what has happened/what I might be able to do?
    Many many many thanks,
    Barney

I am in the process of preparing to test a sample from your brand and model camera in my Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1 on Windows 7 64 bit. I will have the results probably tomorrow morning.
For now I just want to put you through the drill that I do for anyone who says he/she is using Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1.
    1. Are you working from the 8.0/8.0.1 Update of the program?
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4653
    2. Do you have the automatic Background Rendering and AutoAnalyzer features turned OFF.
For Background Rendering option. See Edit Menu/Preferences/General.
For AutoAnalyzer option. Click on Organizer in the row below the blue active Organize header in order to open the Elements Organizer. In the Elements Organizer workspace, go to Edit Menu/Preferences/AutoAnalyzer Options and disable all the AutoAnalzyer options. To return to the Premiere Elements workspace from the Elements Organizer workspace, in the Elements Organizer workspace, go to File Menu/Exit.
Is your computer optimized in spite of the fact that  you have a high end laptop? I presumed so but always go to verify, no pile ups of preview files, conformed video and audio files et al.
Looking at the properties of your source media, I see:
    video compression = MPEG1
    audio compression = MPEG-Layer1 (.mp2)
    Frame Size = 640 x 480 (4:3)
    Pixel Aspect Ratio = 1.0
Frame Rate = 30 progressive frames per second
With properties like those you are sure to get a red line over that content since there is no project preset with that description.
But, your choice of the default NTSC DV Standard would have been mine also.
I am heading to try to get a quick look at the behavior of the sample video here in my Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1.
    To be continued.

  • Missing Audio from FCP to Soundtrack Pro in Final Cut Studio 2

I've been trying to edit a sequence from Final Cut Pro 6 in Soundtrack 2 by sending the sequence to soundtrack as a multitrack project. For some reason, when I send it, multiple audio files from the original sequence are completely missing, and I have no clue why. They're .mov files from the original import of footage.
Anyone know why these don't transfer and how to fix it?

    Hi
I too have had trouble with Audio from FCP 6 messing up in STP 2. My opinion is that the process works if the audio tracks in FCP are either Mono sourced or stereo sourced and are never relinked, split to mono (in the case of stereo files) in FCP during editing. God forbid you unpair a stereo track and delete one channel!
Once in STP I have had occasions where non audio appears, the wrong track appears... or sometimes the wrong audio!
Once in a while double clicking on the offending clip in STP to open it in a Wave window seems to show the right audio. Either saving it of closing the window ( command/w) restores the right material to the clip in STP.
You could right click on the audio in FCP and "send to STP Audio Project". Hopefully the correct audio is opened in STP. Then save it. Now re-export the Multitrack project and see if the audio makes the trip.
Or, you could export the Audio directly from FCP, then import it into STP and position it against the video manually.
One warning : once things start going pear shaped in the FCP-STP workflow, it's my experience that I'm fighting problems all the way. It's why I don't use STP for FCP mixing .... I want to, but its too risky.
    I hope V3 is better.

  • Recording audio from a published file?

    Hi,
I am using Captivate 4 with Windows XP. I am creating a soft skill learning project and what I would like to do is when the users are going through the training, I would like the published Captivate file to capture audio from the user via a microphone. I would then like to have the audio clip save to a folder or emailed. Is this possible? Is there such a function in Captivate to do this?
    Thank you,
    Matthew

    Hi Matthew,
Unfortunately this would not be possible in Adobe Captivate out of the box. If you own Flash and are ActionScript Savvy, you might be able to develop a Widget that would add this functionality. I don't think such a Widget currently exists.
    Best regards,
    Mark

  • How do I extract audio from a .cpvc file?

I have a .cpvc file that I would like to extract audio from.
How do I do this? It doesn't seem clear in what I have Googled so far.

    Hi there
Try clicking the Library button. Locate the audio, right-click and choose Export.

  • Lost video after exporting audio from mpeg-4

I have some mpeg-4 files of my band and wished to improve the audio. I chose the Export Audio option and yes, managed to create an audio only file but seem to have lost the video. Have I lost it permanently or is it still lurking somewhere? I suspect that I might have to reimport this particular file so having done this how would you recommend splitting the audio and video, editing the audio (I use Logic 9) and then putting them back together? Or is there another option?
Thanks in advance for any help.

You could do this in either iMovie or GarageBand.
I would open a new GarageBand Instrumental Project. Drag your TV show file into GarageBand. Then save the project to an audio only codec such as AAC or MP3.
In iMovie, you would use SHARE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME and pick an audio only codec.

  • I want to extract audio from a video file into logic

I have a video thats in the .WMV format and i want to extract certain bits of audio from it, how can i do this within Logic Pro 7.

A quick google search on "convert WMF to quicktime" came up with this program: http://www.programurl.com/software/quicktime.htm
Never used it, but it might be what your looking for?
BTW, did you try just exporting the audio in WMP? Is that possible? I obviously dont use it You may also try to drag the file into logic and see what happens. Though I doubt it will work, its worth a try.

  • No audio with MPEG-2 files !

    Greetings !
I just installed the tryout version of encore DVD 2.0.
I have the same problem i had on Premiere Pro 7.0 where it can process the audio tracks of MPEG-2 files.
In Encore, i also can't ear a thing when using the monitor window to playback the asset MPEG-2 file in its own timeline.
In other words, can Adobe Encore DVD 2.0 can process MPEG-2 assets or is it just good for AVI format ?
    Thanks !

    Weird !
I tried again today and for some reason, part of the Audio is back !
    I still get gaps though.
I was wondering... I see this transcoding settings and not sure what it fully implies ! (Even after reading the manual)
I captured VHS tapes using Hauppauge WinTV PVR Hardware encoder (MPEG-2 chip)... With great results !!!!
I just figured that i wont be able to use Premiere to edit those rushs but my main goal was simply to put the rush on a well organized DVD... Therefore using Encore DVD 2.0.
What would the recomanded settings be in terms of audio transcoding ? Dolby, MPEG-1, PCM ??
    Should i set (Doesn't transcode) ???
    Thanks !

  • Pro Tools 7.4 can´t mute audio from mpeg 1

Well, like we sad, pro tools use quick time to play video files.
I work with dubbling and a new problem appeard after update my iTunes and quicktime to 8.11 and 7.6
    someone knows about that?
video cant mute audio from file, before update, I choose import or not audio from video file and all controls was maded by pro tools, simple mute the audio channel, if I had imported that...
well, now I can´t mute anything, I use another audio file, not the audio muxed in video, and after the update I can´t use like this way.
before anything, only video was played by quick time,
    and now? what changes?
I turn back to quick time 7.1 and everything is fine.

  • Not compressing audio from MPEG

I'm trying to use an MPEG in FCP, but it won't see the audio. I tried to throw it into Compressor, but Compressor says that it won't compress audio from an MPEG 1 or MPEG 2. Any advice?
    Thanks.

I had only used it to rip from DVDs to this point . . . seems to be quite a bit more useful than I have seen it so far. Thanks!
