Missing Bluetooth in old MacPro

I have a first generation MacPro Desktop PC, purchase in 2006, it does not have Bluetooth capability:
Question: how could I install a hardware to make my MacPro Bluetooth capable?  Is there a USB device that can make it Bluetooth capable?

Use a USB bluetooth dongle like a Iogear GBU421.

  • Can we add internal bluetooth to our MacPro 1.1?

We have a Mac Pro 1,1, purchased in mid 2006 (not sure if it's a 2005 model), Dual Core, 2 GHz, running 10.6.8 but thinking of upgrading to Mountain Lion.
After recently purchasing a wireless mouse, I discovered we do NOT have bluetooth installed, though we DO have the AirPort card installed. I've researched online, and am under the impression that this can be added? I've seen external dongles, and internal cards. My ideal would be to install an internal card (I'm assuming we have the internal antenna).
I've seen referenced that if you do it yourself you can void warranties, and should have it installed at an Apple store. When I called the local Apple store to ask if this was true, that bloke told me flat out that you cannot install one, that it had to have been installed when you purchased the model (which seems incorrect, as I've found numerous examples online of folks putting them in, and have opened up my mac to see the very spot where the card could go, as well as the cord to connect to the board. I'm thinking he may have been more of a sales rep as he immediately followed up with how desperately ancient my 6-year-old MacPro is and that I should consider replacing it, even though it's in perfect working order.)
Can anyone clear this up for me? It seems like the process should be straightforward. If you could include which model of bluetooth option we should look for, that would be appreciated, as well as installation instructions.
    Thanks!

  • Expanding my Quad core 'old" MacPro to 8 Core

I've been searching around since Dec 07, soon after I bought my new MacPro Quad to find out what is available to upgrade it to an 8 core.. and this is before they announced the new MacPro 8 core a month after I bought my Quad MacPro. (sigh)
I remember seeing somewhere at the time that the old MacPro could be had in a 4 or 8 core.. but now I am unable to find any info..
The questions are: (If you have a url that explains all this, much appreciated)
    (A) Can I upgrade my old new MacPro to 8 core (I do a lot of video and photo work.)I'm finding my MacPro slower than my Quad core PC doing the same tasks.
    (B) If yes, what are the CPU options, and where to find them?!
I don't game at all with this MacPro, but want to be able to do my video work in a much faster manner..
yes, kinda ***** this all came out at the same time of the new MacPro announcements but whachagonnado?
    Thanks in advance.
    Cheers

hi Hatter, trying to follow where you're pointing with this.. My RAID10 setup is the two drives striped and two drives mirroring the striped drives.. which gives me the 1 Tb space.. I don't use a scratch disk or do backups.. nothing to back up to be honest.. The little video work I've done thus far indicate no probs with the captures, or the editing as far as not using a scratch disk. The first time I tried a scratch disk on USB it pooched the drive so I had to reformat it.. (not knowing you actually had to "eject" a drive before pulling the plug..)
I think I might have done it with a slightly different set up if I had to do it again.. I don't know if this would work or would make any sense but I think I'd have a stand alone boot disk, and a backup disk for the boot drive (mirroring) and stripe the other two drives for capturing and editing videos.. (is this what you meant in your 2nd para?)
However, right now I'm just starting to work with the mac and learning my way through.. All funs and giggles till someone loses an eye.. ; )
Note: you're not missing anything with Vista.. I've downgraded a recently new laptop that came with Vista to XP.. now it's more useable and faster.. and didn't cost me anything. MS has a setup that allows you to transport your Vista licence to an XP OS installation.. but there's a catch.. If you have Vista Biz, you can only do this with XP Pro.. so find someone else's disk, but use your Vista licence. Nice. But I digress.
    Cheers M8

  • Migration from old MacPro to new MacPro?

How will the migration of my data be handled with the new MacPro?
My old MacPro has sATA hard disks and Firewire 800. The new one will have no internal sATA, no Firewire but just Thunderbolt and USB 3.
In previous days I could transfer all my data through the migration assistant and Firewire. In addition I always physically moved 2 of the 3 hard disks to the new Mac. All of these strategies will not work anymore. Even worse, there are no external enclosures availble for sATA disks with Thunderbolt connectors.
So - is there any reasonable way to migrate more than 2 TB of data from my old to a new MacPro????

    Sonnet TB
    http://www.sonnettech.com/product/echoexpresschassis.html
    Sonnet 4-port 6G SATA controller
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Sonnet%20Technologies/TSATA6PROE4/
They mention the above controller with either external or inside a TB case.
A 'full size' 3 x PCIe cards (or one double-wide and 1 x single width) or a case w/ one SATA 6G card and room for disk drives.
PCIe SSD cards will do well.
The cost of TB/TB2 cases does represent $300 and up cost. For those already using external drive cases of 4-12 drives it should be easy.

  • How do I network a 4yr old Macpro with the latest 15" Retina MBP for fast file transfer (back and forth)

    Hi
I have recently updated my equipment and now wish to use my MBP to edit files that currently reside on my old MacPro.
I have made a wifi connecting and also set up file sharing but both prove very slow and also - once the file is ready I cannot save it back to the orginal folder.
Basically, I have lots of stuff on my MacPro that is too big to take across, so all I wish to use my new machine and have the option to save back to the old machine as and when needed.
Can someone advise me on what I need to do, whether that be buy some cables to take advantage of thunderbolt, or any other good working solutions.
    many thanks
    Simon
I am also trying to copy over the font from the library but it says i cannot because of permissions.

If both computers have ethernet ports, that is a fast and inexpensive way to connect and transfer files. You will need an ethernet cable (cost a few $$), and you have to enable file sharing on both Macs.
As for the specifics of file transferring without Migration Assistant it depends on what you want to move. Address Book for example has Export and Import funcitonality. Safari too can import and export bookmrks, etc. etc.

  • Missing Bluetooth Components on my Palm TX

I recently started getting a (Sys5050) (0,841) error message on my palm TX.  I followed advice from this blog community and performed a warm reset and it took the problem away.  Yea!
Not so yea!  Now I find out when I want to connect to the web via Bluetooth that I am "Missing Bluetooth Components" and that I should reinstall the software.
What software?  The Bluetooth came with the TX.  HELP!  PLEASE!
    Thanks in advance

Then your next task is a Hard Reset.  This will erase the device, and reload all the original software.
Once the Hard Reset is complete, test the BlueTooth radio to see if all is better.  If so, do a Hotsync and see if the problem returns.  If it returns, we'll try something different.
To perform a Hard Reset: (Palm Knowledgebase article #887)
    http://kb.palm.com/wps/portal/kb/common/article/887_en.html
While pressing and holding the Power button down, tap and release the Reset button in back and continue to hold the Power button down. When the grey Palm logo appears, you can release the Power button.
You should now see the warning page in about 5 languages. Press the UP direction on the 5-way pad to complete the task. Your Palm will reset itself several times as it re-installs the original programs and erases all your previous data.

  • Can I use my Old MacPro 1.1 2006 as an external enclosure??

As I am waiting for my new MacPro to arrive (Delivery on March) I start wondering if the 4 bays of the old MacPro could not be used as an external enclosure that I could connect  in some way to the New MacPro  and cont to use the 4 Sata drives that I have installed in each of the bays for media storage etc..
I don't know if this is possible via USB, Ethernet or Thunderbolt  connection and the drives would have to show up in the Finder window for Maverick on the new MacPro.  I don't even know if when I do the Migration when the new one arrives it will only do it in the boot drive.
I don't plan to get rid of my Old MacPro immediately'.
Any ideas if this is possible.... via connections, additional cards, or external equipment????
Your input will be greatly appreciated,
    Thank You,
    AppleLou

If your old Mac Pro is still running properly you can easily access the data it contains via ethernet. There are other possibilities, but ethernet is fast and easy and only requires a bit of Cat5 cable.
You need to understand that you will not see the access and transfer speeds of the new system, but you will have (relatively) slow storage on a 1Gbit/sec port.
All that is required is to connect the systems with a Cat5 (ethernet) cable via a (gigabit) switch if you are on a network or directly if it's just the two machines. Then just turn on file sharing and log on onto the old MP using its login and password. This will give you access to everything.
All this assumes that you're not in some huge corporate network since this kind of access scares IT security guys bats. But it's been working in my home studio since the turn of the century.
    hope this helps

  • Copying only data files from old MacPro?

I have a 500GB drive from an older Macpro that I want to copy files from to get them onto a new iMac SSD. I only want to copy the data files, no applications, preferences, Library files, etc.
The Macpro no longer boots, though I have a hard drive docking station that I can put the drive into so I can connect it to the new iMac.
    1. What is the best way to copy just the data files from the old drive to the new iMac?
    2. How reliable is this? Is there any chance that it will not copy some of the files over?
    Thanks!

I just want to make sure that I'm not missing any files. After I drag them over I can put them into the trash so I know they were copied over. Any other tips for doing this? Is there a way to search for all files on the Mac to ensure that there are none that I might miss?
    Thanks.

  • W520 missing Bluetooth. Msinfo32 values... how to resurrect?

I realized Bluetooth is missing from my w520 (4276). I did some searching: an old thread suggested searching in msinfo32, and I did find the adapter which says it's "installed". There is no PnP ID. There is a "Last reset" noted as of today. Index=9. Service name is BthPan. The Name is 000000009. I did try finding the adapter in the BIOS menus. No luck.
Fn+F5 does nothing (for any radio).
Anyone have a suggestion of how to bring this back to life? I am leaving on a trip tonight and I'll need this connection.
Thanks, in advance for any ideas.

    Colonel,
Thank you... I had not gone down that path and there it is. However it is "Enabled" along with all the oither elements of that BIOS menu.
Further searching of the "msinfo" listing pulls out the names of what I believe to be Services like bthmodem, and bthpan, and btwaudio, with 10 found in all. Going to services in Computer Management I found two at Manual setting and changed them to "Automatic".  I found no search box for looking up serrvices to check status. I will do some more Googling.
Did a restart, and still no Bluetooth.  I can't find anything, for instance, in Devices. Which branch does it live in within the Devices tree?
Off to Services for more status changes.

I get a message that said Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible and I now have a folder the said old friefox data on desktop how do i fix it

    See:
This is usually caused by a problem with the profiles.ini file and the profile marked as Default=1 in this file is no longer present on the hard drive.
    *Windows: %AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\<br>C:\Users\&lt;user&gt;\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\&lt;profile&gt;\
