Missing Bookmarks

I searched for info on missing bookmarks and found one entry from 2005. Here is my problem.
For the past few weeks, I have started having a problem with missing bookmarks. I have no idea what is going on. I have everything up to date, as far as OS and SFTW releases. Bookmarks will disappear from bookmark bar, and bookmarks. Here is my system data:
Model Name: MacBook
Model Identifier: MacBook4,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 3 MB
Memory: 3 GB
Bus Speed: 800 MHz
Boot ROM Version: MB41.00C1.B00
SMC Version (system): 1.31f0

Greetings,
If this started happening rrecently, then it suggests your Bookmarks file is corrupt, and not saving the changes you make to it, whether it's adding or deleting bookmarks. Try this:
In Safari, choose File > Export Bookmarks and save them to your Desktop as Bookmarks.html.
Quit Safari.
Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete the Bookmarks.plist file.
Restart Safari, choose File > Import Bookmarks and navigate to the Bookmarks.html file on your Desktop to import them. Once finished, you can move them anywhere you like and then delete the "Imported" folder.

  • Firefox 19 MISSING Bookmarks Library's Search filter feature, why?

    Good Day,
Has anyone else noticed the following issue?:
    Re Firefox 19.0 Bug/Broken Feature
MISSING Bookmarks Library's Search filter feature.
ie: select "Show All Bookmarks" => enter a search string in 'Search Bookmarks' eg:win
    => MISSING "Search in:" filter(s)
This has been present in all previous Firefox versions before 19.0, and it is a VERY VALUABLE feature.
    Any ideas/suggestions?
    Thank You Very Much,
    Roberta

  • Is there any way to retrieve ONE MISSING BOOKMARK...containing months of research, and the only one missing??

I suddenly have one bookmark missing...only one! which just so happens to be the one containing all the research I am currently working on. And it contains months and months of compiled data, websites, etc...WHICH IS needed to finish my project. was sick this last week and did not turn on computer at all, and I know the bookmark was there when I last used computer. Tried to do several system restores, only to get a message back on each (4) saying " restore could not be completed" but no explanation as to why...is there any other way to retrieve this bookmark? IT wasn't backup'd, (LIKE IT SHOULD OF BEEN) or in recycle bin ?? in case it was deleted...(which I'm not sure where it goes if it were deleted..) ANY SUGGESTIONS??? COULD REALLY USE HELP!!! SINCERELY,
    ESPRIT DESIGN
    LISA K

The question details show Firefox OS.
Is this a problem on such a mobile device or is that on a desktop computer (your user agent suggests you are on Windows XP)?
Did you check that you haven't moved this bookmark by accident to another bookmarks folder?
If it happened so long ago that this bookmark is no longer in one of the JSON backups (bookmarks-####-##-##.json) in the bookmarkbackups folder then chances to retrieve this bookmark aren't very good.
You can try to create a new profile and see if restoring a JSON backup that looks promising in regard of the date shows you the lost bookmark.
    See "Creating a profile":

  • How to restore missing bookmarks icons after system reinstall?

After reinstalling my system (Win 7 x64) and downloading the latest Nightly build of Firefox, logging in to Sync and syncing my bookmarks, I discovered that the icons are missing (white square with gray outline). After visiting a web page, the icon is set back to normal. The problem is, that I have lots of bookmarks, and it would take an enormous amount of time to visit every page. And on the second hand, with icons its easier to access bookmarks.

I don't think you can, you'd have to revisit every website.

  • Word 2007 doc to PDF missing bookmark numbers

    Hi,
I am using Acrobat 9 Pro to convert a Word 2007 doc to PDF. The doc converts fine and I get the bookmarks.
The problem though is that the generated bookmarks are missing their numbers.
    For example:
In Word 2007, it will look like:
    1 Overview
    1.1 Introduction
In Acrobat 9 Pro generated PDF, it looks like:
    Overview
    Introduction
I looked through the forums and other people have posted similar questions but no resolution was seen.
    Can somebody please help out?
I talked to Adobe tech support and they were no help.
    Thanks

    Hi all,
Here is an update to this issue.
First of all I agree with Nick that this *is* an Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro issue. (Possibly even with older versions).
Anyway below are the steps I followed to get this to work. It is quite a round about way but I'm happy I got it to work.
    * Generate the PDF as usual from Word 2007. (Maybe you don't need to generate the bookmarks here because we are going to delete them later anyway).
    * Open the newly generated PDF in Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro
    * Click on the Bookmarks tab---if you have the Word 2007 generated bookmarks here select them all (Ctrl-A) and delete them :(
    * Then click on the "Gears" icon in the Bookmarks tab.
    * In the drop down menu select the "New Bookmarks from Structure..."
    * Highlight the structures you wish to have for your bookmarks. For example I chose H1, H2, H3 assuming those were Heading1, ...
    * Click OK
    * The newly generated bookmarks contain section numbers
    * Unfortunately this shows up within a bookmark called "Untitled" So I again select all (Ctrl-A)
    * Unselect "untitled" and move (drag) everything else to one level above "Untitled"
    * Then I delete "Untitled".
Unfortunately this new bookmark is a flat structure---i.e. you cannot collapse it.
Oh well! At least it works.
If any of you can come up with a better solution, please post it here :)
    Thanks

  • Missing Bookmarks in Responsive HTML5 Output

I just started working with Responsive HTML5 in RoboHelp 11. I notice that on one machine my bookmarks appear in the sidebar of the Responsive HTML5 output. However, when I move the output to a different machine and view it, the bookmarks are missing from the sidebar. Only the Contents icon appears from which I can access the pages individual pages. What do I need to do to ensure that the bookmarks appear regardless of the PC on which it runs? Thanks!

It might be possible to tweak the responsive layout but Willam is likely the only person around here who can tell you how.
Otherwise maybe a multiscreen layout could be used where you only generate one layout notwithstanding the name. There are some topics on my site and in the RoboHelp Tour that will help with that idea. Come back if stuck. Generally though I would stick with Responsive Layouts.

  • Missing Bookmark Icons

    Hi,
I've recently been having a few problems with Safari (spinning beachball and freezing).
After a recent force quit I noticed that some of my my bookmark icons arn't showing up. This is very annoying for me as I use these a lot when visiting my favorites.(I realize that most people get annoyed by HAVING icons!)
Anyway, I miss them and want them back..... any Ideas?
    Ibook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hello kez:
First, I would try to determine what is causing your performance problems.
Run repair disk from your software install DVD
    Clear the Safari cache.
Close Safari, trash the preference file (com.apple.safari.plist), restart, and enter your personal preferences.
Trash the favicon file to clear out any problems there (~library>safari>icons). When you visit a web page for the first time, the favicon (if there is one) will be stored.

  • Missing bookmarks on first instance of Firefox

When I first open Firefox I am missing two of three bookmarks in my Bookmarks Toolbar. They are are present in my Bookmark Toolbar folder (Bookmarks>Bookmarks Toolbar) just not in the toolbar itself. When I open a second Firefox session they're back in the toolbar.

I have this problem too with Firefox 4.0 on WinXP SP3.
The best workaround I have found is to enable Xmouse behavior in TweakUI
    http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/c/a/fca6767b-9ed9-45a6-b352-839afb2a2679/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe TweakUI
Then, when firefox 'forgets' that it has focus you can move the mouse to another application window (open one if needed), that will switch focus to the other app.
Then move back to firefox. That stop the madness.
Using Alt-Tab to cycle through applications sometimes works for me too.
None of this provides an acceptable fix. Best not to put up with it for long! It is too irritating.

  • CS5 table of contents broken links and missing bookmarks

I'm having an issue with the table of contents in a .pdf. I'm working on a 112 page document in InDesign CS5. After exporting the .pdf, I realized that the file would be far too large to upload to the website. I used "reduce file size" in Acrobat Pro to make it smaller and chose the option to make it compatible with Acrobat 5.0 and later. The table of contents worked fine, all bookmarks appeared and links worked but the file was still too big. I did the same thing again but for version 4.0 and later and now the file is an appropriate size but the table of contents doesn't include all of the bookmarks and certain links don't work. Any help is appreciated!

Don't go down to 4. Consider v5 a minimum. I prefer v7 as a minimum. v4 doesn't support smarty features. Generally, the higher the version number, the more clever it is at squeezing file size. But really, the single biggest factor in PDF file size is your choice of how many ppi the bitmap images are sampled down to. Did you try setting them down to 100 ppi, for example?

  • Missing bookmarks when printing to PDF (from Word 2003)

When I want to convert my word-document I first used the "convert to Adobe PDF button" that is shown in the top bar in Word. However each time i used this, it was creating failures making Word shut down. So I decided to try and use the Print to option and the instead of a printer select the Adobe PDF driver. This is working great for except for the fact that it does not
add bookmarks to the PDF-file were (if it works) the Convert to PDF methode did. This is also set in the Adobe Acrobat preferences under Convert To PDF, only it does not work when using printing to the Adobe PDF driver. Anyone know how to solve this?
I'm using Word 2003 SP3 and Adobe Scrobat Professional 8.1.2.
    greets sjaaky

THanks for the quick answer, I disabled the accessibility but unfortunantly it didn't resolve the problem. I get this error:

    What have I done ?

Can you move this again to Adobe Acrobat forum ?

  • Missing "bookmarks" option in fixed-layout-epub export panel-?

Hi everyone, I'm having an issue exporting a fixed layout epub with bookmarks.
The "Bookmarks" option is not present/visible/showing up in the export options: I only have "none", "file name", "Multi level". But I do have bookmarks in the document.
I had canceled old bookmarks and recreated them, but nothing changed.
I really can't figure out the what the problem is!
Any suggestion will be really appreciated… Thanks.

I understand that you need the newest version (InDesign CC 2014.1) to accomplish what you want with EPUB.
But if you have a Creative Cloud subscription, you can download BOTH that version (the current one) AND also install InDesign CC (which came out in 2013), as well as InDesign CS6. All can be installed simultaneously!
As I described above, I think you unintentionally muffed it by installing a trial on top of your installation. Both should be uninstalled.
Then with Creative Cloud install the latest version and make sure it's working.
To download an older version from Creative Cloud, select the Apps menu in the CC application. Scroll down till you see "Filters & Version" In that section, you will see the older versions which you can also install.

  • I run XP SP2 and have just installed FF 4 over my old FF2. After installation, a part of my bookmarks has disappeared. Prior to installing FF4 I had made a copy of my FF profile folder. How can I retrieve my missing bookmarks ?

It seems as if FF4 had gone back to what my bookmarks' list was over a year ago or so ...

Did you ever used a Firefox 3 version with that profile folder?
If you have done that then Firefox 4 will have found and used the places.sqlite file from that installation.<br />
You can delete places.sqlite in the profile folder and all .json backups in the bookmarkbackups folder to make Firefox import the bookmarks from the file bookmarks.html<br />
Move the old bookmarks-xxxx-xx-xx.html backups in the bookmarkbackups folder from Firefox 2 to another location in case you need them.

  • 8.1 missing bookmarks

I just did the 8.1 update and all of my bookmarks in Safari are gone. How can I get these back?

  • Missing bookmark icons after trying FF4.0 and reverting to FF3.6

I tried upgrading to FF4.0, did not like it as not compatible with Norton toolbar, and then reverted back to FF3.6 and now all bookmarks are without their original icons. I only have a "blank page" icon against the text of my bookmarks.

    Credit Tony E
To downgrade to Firefox 3.6 first uninstall Firefox 4, but do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data. See https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+Firefox
You can then install the latest version of Firefox 3.6 available from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html - it will automatically use your current bookmarks, passwords etc.
To avoid possible problems with downgrading, I recommend going to your profile folder and deleting the following files if they exist - extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite and localstore.rdf. Deleting these files will force Firefox to rebuild the list of installed extensions, checking their compatibility, and reset toolbar customizations.
For details of how to find your profile folder see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Profiles
