Missing BOOTMGR on Satellite C660

Hi folks,
I have Satellite C660,
at first i had a virus, and tried to reinstall windows, but no good.
When it came up to the point of saying there was not enough space on the disk to install windows,
I realised i had forgot about the partition bit.
Now when i try to boot up again, its a black screen which says..BOOTMGR..manager..is missing.
So when i try to boot up again, i get to the same point about not enough space on the disk
so im going round in circles, and getting no where,
I'm thinking about getting a new hard drive, but does anyone know how to fix this before i do have to buy a new drive.. cheers

Missing boot manager is a common error message which appears if the notebook cannot find and boot the system.
So you have to find the reason why the system cannot be found.
I think its HDD problem. Probably the HDD or system partition is faulty.
In my opinion you should access the BIOS and should check if the HDD is listed on the first BIOS page.
In case it does not appear in the first BIOS page, the HDD isnt recognized and therefore I think it should be replaced before trying to install the system again.

  • Missing Bootmgr - Satellite A135-S7404

I have an A135-S7404 which was continually going through the Startup Repair when turning it on.  Since there was nothing I could do to stop it, I looked to see what came with the computer to try to reinstall the operating system.  I found the unopened Recovery and Applications disk.  I followed the directions and installed it.  Once it was complete, I got the "Missing Bootmgr" message and was unable to do anything.  I followed the directions on the forum regarding downloading the "Vista Recovery Disk" and now have a CD with the file "Windows Vista 32-bit Repair Disc" on it.
I tried to boot the computer with it and I still got the Missing Bootmgr message.  Does this mean the hard drive is shot or is there something else I can try?

i turns out that it might be your hard drive. I have a satellite a215-s7416 and was getting the same error number i could not run the recovery disc because it would stop. I looked around in the internet and tried what they recommended. I switched out my hard drive and ran the recovery disc and it worked. I bought my hard drive from newegg.com. I hope this helps you. My laptop was only 6 months old and i almost threw it away.

I'd like to recover my Toshiba Satellite C660 to it's original state.
I did not create any DVDs at startup.
On the D: partition there is an 11GB folder called HDDrecovery.
When I press F8 at startup I do not see any option to use them.

  • Webcam/mic on Satellite C660-119 - how to make it work?

Trying to get this built-in webcam working. Had the laptop for a few years but never used this function before. I have skype that doesn't seem to detect it. Can't see anything in Device Manager relating to webcam or image or anything, and in program files under Toshiba all it has is 'Wireless LAN Indicator', nothing about a cam or mic, its as if it doesnt exist. After searching around I found I might be needing some certain drivers, and so I downloaded something called TC30295700E (which I believe is what I needed), I installed that and no difference seems to be made. Webcam completely undetected by the laptop even though its built-in...been at this for a few hours now, am I missing something here?
Edit: sorry I should specify, I'm running Windows 7.
Edit 2: Should also add that 'Imaging Devices' is nowhere to be found on the Device Manager.
    Any help appreciated, thanks
    Muloc

According notebook specification Satellite C660-119 with part number PSC0LE-01100JEN does not have a cam so Im not wondering you cannot get it work if cam doesnt exist.

Have downloaded this ,I then unzipped it and it says will start automatic installation when finished but nothing happens.
Have tried several times but once unzipped it will not install.

  • After Recovery with CD Satellite C660-1FE keyboard does NOT work

    Hello,
A month ago I purchased a Toshiba C660-1FE. After three weeks my HD broke down. I bought a new HD from Western Digital and replaced the broken HD. As I did not make an recovery image of my HD, I had to order the Product recovery discs off the Toshiba website (3 discs, of which disc 1 and 3 were the only one's required for installation).
Now, I have the problem that my laptop keyboard does not work. I am currently using a USB keyboard and mouse to replace my keyboard and touchpad of the laptop.
The laptop keyboard works fine in BIOS. Therefore, I hope it's just a driver problem.
    I have:
tried finding and installing lots of drivers on from the toshiba website, no result.
tried changing settings in the bios (usb enable/disable).
tried to fix the problem by re-installing the entire computer again several times.
The keyboard seems to work until windows loads. When the system is starting up I can press caps lock and num lock and the green lights come on. This all stops working once the windows startup symbol appears.
Perhaps a second problem in the device manager: under the display-adapter, 2 subcategories have exclamation marks: it says Mobile Intel(R) 4 series express chipset family twice! I can't seems to fix these with any drivers I can find either. When I check the settings I have this message (google translate since it was in dutch):
+The digital signature for the drivers for this device is required, can not be verified. Possible after a recent hardware or software change a file that is installed incorrectly signed or damaged, or is malicious software installed from an unknown source. (Code 52)+
+You need to restart the computer to this device changes to take effect.+ (obviously I tried that too)
Can someone please give me some help? I am at the end of my wits.
    Sincerely,
    Daniel

    Hi MisterX,
thank you for your response. I have tried these things and there is no such thing as PS2/keyboard in device manager. It's as if the Hardware is not even recognizable in windows. I am starting to doubt whether I got the right Backup CD.
I wrote the following e-mail to [email protected]:
    +Dear Toshiba,+
+after receiving the recovery CD's for my toshiba c660-1FE, it turns out that the drivers for the keyboard and touchpad are not installed. I have tried many things to get around this but it seems to me that I have received the wrong product recovery CD's. The chipset drivers are not the right ones, the overall layout of this version of windows 7 is different from before and when looking for answers in the toshiba forum I have concluded that the recovery CD's could be the wrong ones.+
    +My laptop: Satellite C660-1FE+
    +serial: 5B378048K+
    +Part-nr: PSC0LE 02M0TU26DU+
    +Recovery CD's I received are CD's 1-3 with serial R14254DU+
+Would you be so kind to check whether these CD's should be 100% compatible with my laptop?+
    +This would be greatly appreciated,+
    +Daniel+
MisterX, do you know any other emails I can forward this too? Or anyone who could perhaps tell me if I got the right CD's? They are taking their time to respong to this...
    Kind regards,

  • Satellite C660 fails to boot first time

    I have a Satellite C660 - PSC0AQ-03C019 + 1B194392K
For the last year the notebook has been running fine however in the last 2 months it has had a boot issue. The first attempted boot of the day, it will not boot, it powers on gets past the boot screens past the blinking cursor top left then stalls with a blank screen (not cursor just a faint glow).
Pressing and holding the power button turning it off and then turning on again the computer will start. sometimes (not always ) it will ask to boot normally or repair.
The notebook works perfectly in use not errors not crashes. Restarting the notebook works as expected shutting down and powering on after 5 mins works fine.
If the notebook is left off for an hour it or more it will not boot the same as above. powering off and powering on the system will boot but with start normally question.
There are no errors shown in system logs
I have performed a full system reinstall from HDD recovery.
I have performed a full system reinstall from DVD recovery.
I have performed a full system reinstall from DVD on to a brand new hard drive recovery.
    I have replaced the ram
I have attempted to update the bios but get an error
    Bios version above 200
    Battery capacity more than 10%
    AC is attached

Thanks for your suggestions. Just to clarify what is happening and what I have done so far.
Every time the Satellite C660 notebook is turned on when it has been sitting turned off for more than an hour it will not boot.
    Power on goes like this
The Toshiba splash screen comes up
The blinking cursor on the top left appears then disappears
The screen goes blank (noticeably on still, but blank)
No matter how long it is left it stays at this screen
    The above has happens so
I press and hold the power button to turn it off
Press to turn the notebook back on - one out of three times it states the system failed to start - offering boot to safe mode or turn on normally
Pressing boot normally the computer will boot successfully
The Satellite C660 will run perfectly with no errors, failures or crashes
Reboot the Satellite C660 it will restart and boot correctly
Turn the notebook off and leave it for an hour and it will not boot.
I have scanned the original HDD and it has no errors or issues
I have performed a full system reinstall using manufacturers HDD recovery.
I have performed a full system reinstall from DVD recovery.
I have performed a full system reinstall from DVD on to a brand new hard drive recovery.
I have tested the brand new HDD no errors
I have replaced the RAM memory
There are no errors shown in system logs
I have set the BIOS to defaults
I have set the boot order to boot from HDD first
I have not been able to update the BIOS as when the Toshiba update or manual download and attempt to update the BIOS fails.
On a restart the computer boots as normal
When booting for the first time of the day or if the computer is off for an hour or more it will not boot into Windows

  • System Restore problem on Satellite C660-115

    Hello everyone,
The Satellite C660-115 my niece has a problem and I would like to make it serviceable for his Christmas.
Turning on the computer's voltage giving as final result the message: * Can not find the operating system will ", so I tried System Restore by first pressing the 0 key, and after many tests, changing the order of the boot and the other (with F2 or F12) ... But there was nothing.
From there, I realized that I could not go further without original recovery DVD from Toshiba. So I ordered last Saturday and got today Thursday. After as indicated by Toshiba (boot sequence beginning on CD drive), the system begins to upload (Windows is loading files ...) and then propose, on a nice table, the available languages, and choose .. .dropoff window
If, until then, everything seemed to unfold as it should, that's that clicking the "next" button to validate my choice of language an error message appears in a dialog box named RecoGUI:
ERROR:. IOCTL_GET_DISK_LENGTH _INFO \\ \ PHYSICALDRIVE0 The device is not ready.
When I press OK, then it is in French:
The hard disk # 0 is not available or incorrect RAID configuration!
I still presses OK (I do not have much choice) and then present the following window restoration that requires me to validate the language of the operating system to install ... French (Windows Win 7)
and states: The current size of restoration is to: Expert Mode
Again, I click OK and a warning box warns me that: All hard drives will be completely erased. Would you like to continue?
OK ... and cmd prompt appears that says (in short)
Checking for Drive V: V Drive not mounted ...
    Ckecking for Drive C: ... C: unmounted!
ending with: ERROR Copying of Recovery Base files failed!
    Press any key to continue (if I do, I find the Toshiba screen, and another cmd prompt that says so;
Waiting for ODD To Become available ...
    ODD Drive D: ready.
Check for medium in Drive D; ...
    Continue ...
    Drvload: Successfully loaded X: \ Windows \ inf \ battery.inf.
No RAID - Normally continues ...
    Installation in progress ...
Press any key to continue ... which, if I do, then placed below:
    X: \ Windows \ system32>
That's where I stayed, because I always come back to the same.
Could someone be kind enough to help me solve this problem?
A big thank you in advance ...
    +Message was edited & translated+

From my point of few we should consider two possible issues.
    1) faulty image on the new recovery disk
    2) problem with HDD as well as the partitions
In my opinion you should check the HDD firstly.
You can run some tests, for example you could try to install the Windows system using a clean Microsoft Windows CD (image)
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit image can be downloaded here:
    http://msft-dnl.digitalrivercontent.net/msvista/pub/X15-65733/X15-65733.iso
But of course, you will not be able to activate this system without a valid serial key
So you can use this image just for testing purposes.
In case the image installation would run flawlessly, your recovery installation problem might be related to the faulty recovery media.
In such case you should try to contact the recovery media provider in order to get another, new good working media.

  • Satellite C660 won't boot to disc or USB

My Toshiba Satellite C660-DSC0QE, running BIOS version 1.80, won't boot into Windows any more - it just goes to the dreaded black screen with white cursor.
I've tried a Win 7 system recovery disc, a USB stick with Kaspersky recovery software on it, and even a full Win 7 installation disc, and it won't boot to any of them.
The boot order is set correctly, the devices (optical drive or USB port) do get read, but they never actually boot into them - there's either an obscure error message or it acts like they weren't there at all.
The obvious answer from these forums seems to be to turn off secure boot mode and to then switch the boot mode from UEFI to CSM. Easier said than done - those menu options don't exist at all in my BIOS/CMOS screens.
Finally, I don't see a way in the instructions to get a BIOS update to happen without being in Windows on the PC already - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD9502M10000R01.htm I'm assuming BIOS version 2.00 would have these options.
    Any help gratefully accepted!

    Hi
I assume youve got an white, blinking cursor in the left upper corner.
    Is this correct?
Such symptoms appear in case the system cannot find a bootable device (HDD) or in case of memory (RAM module) problems.
First of all you said that you dont have UEFI / CSM boot mode in the BIOS settings.
So Im asking you what boot mode settings do appear in BIOS exactly?
Did you search for these settings in the right area?
Usually you should have in BIOS an area (tab) called security.
In most cases there you will find secure boot option but the Satellite C660 does not support such option because its too old.
But boot mode (UEFI /CSM) should be available in BIOS. Check the BIOS area System settings
Anyway, as I said above; it could be also an memory issue therefore I would recommend you to check if memory is OK.

  • Satellite C660-26G - unexpected error after removing USB stick

Hello all, i am in need of help here.
I have a Satellite C660-26G, 2 days old and a USB memory stick has been removed from the laptop while it was working, and I believe caused some sort of corruption.
The machine starts, passes the logo, and the windows loading bar in white comes along bottom of the screen. It freezes about 1/3rd of the way along, and then throws up an error screen stating the following:
"Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer. This error can be caused by unplugging a removable storage device such as an external USB drive while the drive is in use .... and so on ...."
It states to plug it back in and restart the machine.
I have tried this and always the same, i have even plugged it into both ports available, and to no avail, the same problem exists.
Now searching the forum I thought nothing more of restoring to the factory settings as there were no physical discs supplied with the new machine.
Using the reboot and F8 method results in no action and same error in the end.
    Bottom of the error screen states;
    Status: 0xc00000e9
Info: An unexpected I/O error has occurred.
    Please help ???

    Hi
Whether this issue has any relation to the incident with you USB stick or not (I don't think so since modern OS'es simply aren't so unstable) it still seems your unit is in need of professional attention.
This is not something that is possible to fix without further hardware diagnosis.
I would suggest to call your local support or talk to your dealer about how to get your unit to service.
    BR

  • Satellite C660-15 No Wireless LAN

    Hello helpfull people
I have just received my new Satellite C660-15 Netbook. To get rid of all the bloatware installed on new netbook I formatted it and installed Windows 7 Ultimate. I combined the hard drive partions and being silly did not make a proper backup of the installed recovery software presuming the drivers I required would be on Toshiba website.
Now the Wireless device does not work.
The driver (RTL8188CE version 1005.18.0413.2011) installs OK and says device is working properly but does not see any wireless networks.
Is this the correct wireless card ???. I have tried downloading and installing various Realtek drivers, as well as the ones on the Toshiba website (Atheron Broadcom etc).
I have seen people being told on the forum not to upate WLAN drivers as they may stop working. Unfortunately the latest one is the only one I can find on the
    Internet.
I have tried both 32 Bit windows and 64 Bit with different drivers none work. The wireless device worked when the netbook arrived.
Maybe i should have kept the bloatware.
    Many thanks in advance

    Macius
Sorry for slow reply waiting for a user account Laptop is C660-115 PSC0LE-00500JEN
I Installed ConfigFree tool and it said WLAN card is enabled properly.
I do not have an LED for the WIFI to light up and tried Function F8 many times.
The Icon just shows no networks in area. Can pick up 4 or 5 on other laptops so range is not an issue. I have tried installing all Realtek Drivers from Realtek website.
I did a few google searches and seems a few users were having to roll back drivers after being told by Toshiba driver update utility. I do not have this option. The driver
installs okay and i get the wireless icon in taskbar, however no signal.
At least I have learnt about recovery CD.
    Thanks again

  • Re: Satellite C660-115 Very strange Wifi problems!

I've been busy solving a wireless problem on a C660-115, still without success.
    Satellite C660-115
    Windows 7 - 64Bits
    The case:
    - Laptop is connected to the power supply: Wifi works fine, no problems
    - Laptop disconnected from power supply: Wifi won't work, although there sometimes seems to be a connection with the access point/wifi router.
    No internet/network communication
    - Laptop connected to the power supply --> wifi works, unplugging the power supply --> after a 1/2 minute or so, no internet connection...
I tried to find a new driver, but we already use the latest version.
Then i switched off the "This computer may switch of this device to save energy" function, without succes.
    Ideas anyone?

I had same problem with C660 running windows 7 losing internet access but not network connection whilst using battery power, but no problems when connected to mains power.
Solution; Change power plan to high performance. I found this sovlved the problem instantly.

  • Windows 7 will not boot on new Satellite C660-195

    Hi,
    I have just purchased a Toshiba Satellite C660-195 with Windows 7 pre-installed.
This morning I have switched it on and it came up with a black box with x:windows\system32\drvload.exe in it. This box then disappeared and Startup Repair kicked in. It then told me Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically. The advice was to remove any device which had been recently attached to the laptop (such as a webcam or music device) but I have not installed any hardware or devices. I clicked finish and it shut down the laptop.
I switched it on again and the same thing happened (again and again!)
One forum suggests trying the following: Click the 'view advanced options for system recovery and support' link which asks me to choose my keyboard configuration but then when I do & click next it tells me "You must log in to access system recovery options" I am never given the option to log in!!
When accessing the Advanced Startup options using F8 I am still unable to solve this problem. The same thing (above) happens when I try to start in all Safe modes, Last Known Good Configuration (advanced), Debugging mode, Start Windows normally etc. I just don't understand it.
Upon searching other forums they have suggested holding down zero whilst switching on and then chosing Windows 7 to restore the laptop to its factory settings but the same thing happens - it just shows the black screen with x:windows\system32\drvload.exe then launched Startup Repair, which does not fix the problem.
I do not have a windows 7 disk to restore from as I only purchased the laptop 6 days ago and have not had time to do one yet. Also, the laptop should have the restore/recovery on its hard drive but I cannot access it to restore windows.
I am only a home user so do not understand all the technical speak. Please can someone help me?

    Hi,
    Thanks for your prompt reply.
Unfortunately I have already tried this and it does not work.
in F8 I can chose 'Repair your Computer' as in screen shot 1.
I can chose my keyboard configuration as in screen shot 2 and when I click 'Next'
I am presented with the message "You must log in to access System Recovery Options. If you are having trouble logging in please contact your computer administrator . . . . . . ." etc
It does not give me the option to log in like screen shot 3 so I cannot progress.
    Any further ideas gratefully received!
