Missing calendars in iCal

I have migrated all the files from my iMac (10.4.11) to my new MacBook (10.6.8) using Migration Assistant and a Firewire connection.
The new MacBook shows both my calendars; one has the correct data, the other has no data at all.
I then tried backing up the data base from the iMac and importing the resulting .icbu file to the Macbook with no result - one calendar is still blank.
Any ideas anybody?

Following on from my post of Mar. 31, I found a workaround from Mike Janowski posted on Dec. 11 2010 in iCal>discussions. The workaround involves editing of text strings in your User/Application Support/iCal/Sources/blankcalendarfolder/Corestorage.ics file.
This certainly works, but if you choose to keep working in iCal v.2 with periodic backups to version 4, you have to double-click the edited .ics file every time. Maybe you could write an AppleScript to do this task.
There is another "bug" though: when you use the workaround, it not only restores the missing events and to-dos, it also resurrects events that you have previously deleted from v.2.  Bizarre but true!
To sum up - I'm inclined to think that this problem merits the description of "Apple fiasco".
Apple should write a software update for iCal v.4, or for Snow Leopard itself.

  • Missing calendar in iCal

I've been using my iCal calendar on my iPhone 5 for over a year now.  Our "family" calendar on iCloud has disappeared; this has never happened before.  It's totally gone--all events past, present, and future (including many recurring events).  It's also gone on my iMac desktop. I didn't delete them and they are not "hidden" on the iCal app.  There is no longer even a checkbox to mark "show" or "hide" in the iCal app.  I have no idea where my events are.
My calendar is on iCloud, but due to "storage almost full" issues, I haven't had an iCloud back up in several months.  I don't use Time Machine either.  Are these events lost forever or is there ANY chance of getting them back.  Thanks for any and all help--I'm desperate.

The same thing happened to me last night - all of a sudden my main calendar in ical was deleted.  I have no idea how this happened or how to retrieve my calendar.  I'm afraid to re-enter everything since I have no idea why it went missing in the first place from both my phone and my imac.

  • Where can I find missing calendars in iCal?

I shut down my computer a couple of days ago, and when I restarted, my iCal showed only events listed under the default "home" and "work" calendars. I can't find any record of the several other calendars I had going ("classes," "meetings," etc.) Where has this data gone? I also see no record of any of my "to do" entries. Basically everything that wasn't under the default is gone. What do I do?

    Salewski,
What calendars are displayed on your CalDav account? I have not used that service and am wondering if any of your data is retained on that server.
What folders do you have in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Calendars Folder?
There are two kinds of computer users: Those who have lost data and those who will.
Backups are an important part of data retention. TimeMachine for example can retain hourly/daily/weekly backups. It is included with Snow Leopard, but requires an external hard drive. You can also use other backup software such as SuperDuper, or Carbon Copy Cloner to provide you with a bootable backup. There is also a Backup application provided with a MobileMe subscription which can provide offsite backups.
it seems like iCal isn't a safe place to store important information if you need to back it up every time you shut down, right?
If you are not using any other forms of backup, I would have to agree with that statement, but this is what Apple says: "You should perform regular backups of your system and keep multiple backups of important, irreplaceable files. Without multiple backup copies of your files, your files do not exist anywhere except on your Mac."
For future reference check out the backup recommendations in this link.

  • Missing a calendar in iCal after syncing with MobileMe....

i am having some problems with iCal ...i am missing one my Calendars in iCal and wasn't sure how to get it back. I downloaded the calendars file and calendar.plist from my Time Machine backup...the missing calendar showed up at first, but it seemed to disappear right away (i assume after syncing with MobileMe.) Not sure what would be the easiest way to bring it back.......

It's possible to restore from Time Machine, though it's a slightly complicated process. Please follow very carefully the steps described here:

  • Once I have synced my Google calendar to iCal, can I turn off syncing and save all info in iCal?

I have been using Google Calendar, and syncing info from it to my Mac, iPad and iPhone. Now that all the info I originally entered into Google Calendar is on my Apple devices, can I turn off syncing it and save all the events, birthdays, etc. that were put into iCal up to this point? I have only been adding to my iCal via the Mac, iPad or iPhone for several months now, so it seems silly to keep using Google Calendar.

Unless you have backed up your iCal data, there is no way to retrieve the now missing data. To easily back up your calendar data, simply choose the Back up Database… option under the File menu in iCal.
Microsoft cautions users that deletion of the Entourage calendar in iCal—without first disabling the synchronization function with Entourage—will result in exactly the outcome you see.
If you have not subsequently synchronized with .Mac since you deleted the iCal calendar, you can selectively restore calendar files as a collection of calendars from .Mac by using the Reset Sync Data… option in the .Mac preference pane by launching System Preferences, pressing the .Mac icon then the Advanced tab, and waiting for your client list to update. Once you've done that, press the Reset Sync Data… button, choose Calendars from the drop down menu and pick the option to replace the data on your Macintosh with data stored on the .Mac servers.

  • Problems viewing calendars in iCal after OS upgrade

I just upgraded my OS from 10.4 to 10.6, and now several of my calendars within iCal don't show up (2 show up, but 4 are "missing"). I've synced with my iPhone, and all the events are still listed on my phone, but I can't see them on my computer.
Any suggestions on how to make it so that I can see these calendars again?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions,
It sounds like something went wrong in the upgrade process of iCal under 10.4 to 10.6.
    Try the following in order:
    1. First make an iCal backup, File > Export > Archive.
    2. Go to Your User > Library > Application Support > iCal
__Move this folder to your desktop (this is the old 10.4 calendar location. don't misplace it)
Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
__NOTE: Removing these files will remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
Check iCal at this point. Did the calendars come back?
    3. If not then quit iCal and follow this help article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iSync/3.1/en/9247.html
Check iCal at this point. Did they come back?
    4. If not then go into the iCal folder you put on your desktop and look for several folders with extremely long names. Inside each one is a calendar called "corestorage.ics". Each one of these is one of your calendars.
Open each one, one at a time by double-clicking. When prompted, add each one to a uniquely named new calendar in iCal until you have restored the missing calendars. You can then delete any duplicate calendars that might have been imported.
    Hope that helps.

I know this email is confusing and really hard to understand...perhaps now you will know how i've been feeling--lost and confused with all the mis-information, with a hit and miss phone, and out of time with all the 1 1/2 hr to 2 hrs EACH wasted on this issue.
On top of all this, I can't even find out how to file a complaint with anyone higher up than Customer Service.
I hate to tell you this, but you didn't write an email. You wrote a discussion post on the Verizon Wireless Community forum which is a public peer to peer forum. Unfortunately since you didn't mark your post as a question, the VZW reps that roam this community won't ever see your post. Before you re-post it, don't. Duplicate posts get removed from the community.
I see there were several missteps both by the reps and yourself in your post. First you should have insisted on returning the phone within the 14 day return policy period. Second which Samsung Galaxy mini model did you purchase? The S3 mini or the S4 mini? Did you do any research prior to deciding on this device. The reps at that time deflected the easiest course of action, by trying to get you to replace the phone under insurance instead of returning the phone. The Early Edge payment option requires the current phone on the line using the early Edge must be returned to Verizon Wireless. Did you once considered going to a third party site like Swappa to purchase a gently used device for your daughter?

  • I am trying to download a calendar into ical and keep getting this message-Some of the events in this calendar have alerts that open files or applications.  What am I doing wrong???

I am trying to download a calendar into ical and keep getting this message-Some of the events in this calendar have alerts that open files or applications. Remove alerts or cancel
What am I doing wrong or missing??

I have this same problem in October of 2013. I am unable to import .ics files into Lion that I exported from my Snow Leopard MacBookPro without losing all of my future events (which all have alerts attached). All of the events from BEFORE today's date are successfully importing, presumably because they are no longer expected to trigger alerts via Apple Mail. After my first unsuccessful attempt, I learned that iCal was communicating with iCloud by default. I have since turned off iCloud, but I have not found a solution to the problem. Harvey

  • How to import Lotus Notes or Outlook calendar into iCal ???

Is there a way to import calendar data from either Lotus Notes or Outlook calendar into iCal ? Is there a generic data type file that I must first get the calendar file into before importing into iCal ?

The file must be .ics. I used to simply use Missing Sync to get my calendars synced up, however it's not yet supported in Leopard.
So, in order to get my office Outlook data over to Ical, I simply used the following "macro"
    http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=136194
Simply follow the instructions...it worked well for me. all my work data got transferred over.

  • Missing calendars

Some of the individual calendars I had set up within iCal have disappeared and when I open iCal all the appointments from those calendars are missing. The missing calendars are the original ones I set up on the mac by using the add calendar function. They have synced to my iphone with no problems for several years but the same calendars are now missing from my iphone too. The later calendars i set up that link to my gmail are still visible and accessible in ical. Can anyone help?

I think this may have to do with the Missing Sync software. I have 2 accounts on my Mac. The account that has the Missing Sync software is having the problem with the missing calendars in the inspector pane.
The other account (w/o Missing Sync) does seem to have all its Calendar groups in the inspector pane.
Michael Lafferty (seems to be the Missing Sync expert in the forums), what do you think about this?

  • ISync says there are no writeable calendars in iCal

I have a Mac Mini OS 10.4.10 and a new htc tytn II. I have Missing Sync for Windows. (Was used to using Mising Sync for Palm with my old Treo and had no problems) I have managed to sync everything but the calendars. Contacts all came out perfectly. The error message says there are no writeable calendars in iCal. Missing Sync tell me to check the calendars are not read only but I can't find anything about that. Can anyone help?

    Hmmmmm....
OK, are they albums that actually are on your computer with those names?
If so, then turn on the "Sync Photos" option, and then click on the "Selected Photos, Albums....etc" option
Once you have clicked on that, then check those two albums and sync
Then, uncheck those albums and sync again
Make sure nothing else is checked when you do those two steps.
    Cheers,

  • Is there a way to create three different physical calendars in ical so that I can get a fiscal view of the calendars?

Is there a way to create three physically different calendars in iCal so that I can view the calendar and events from a fical point of view?

iCal just shows the calendars you have created in your account(s).  So if you are using iCloud just log into your iCloud account in a web browser and make as many new calendars as you wish to have.  Then enable those in iCal.
If you use Google accounts or something else for the calendars, then create them as needed, and enable them in iCal.
I have several separate calendars all displayed in iCal - a couple linked through my Gmail accounts, and one through my iCloud account.  Each uses a different default item color so they are distinct in iCal.

  • Added calendar in iCal not synced to MobileMe

I moved a calendar from "On My Mac" to my MobileMe account group, using the export-import method. The new calendar, however, does not sync to MobileMe. I even tried an overwrite (bookmarks, calendars, contacts and keychains) from my Mac to MobileMe but the added calendar still did not appear in MobileMe.
I quit and relaunched iCal, which started an immediate sync. The new calendar promptly disappeared from iCal and I got a string of error messages (one for each entry in the new calendar, it seems) all ending with
    The server responded with
    “HTTP/1.1 409 Conflict”
and asking me to either "Go Offline" or "Revert to Server". It didn't seem to matter which one I selected – the error just kept cropping up. Eventually, I gave up and force quit iCal.
How can I add a new calendar to iCal that will sync with MobileMe?

    Derek,
I presume that this procedure represents exactly what you have tried to accomplish?
Import an iCal calendar or event
If you use iCal and want to add your iCal calendars and events to a MobileMe calendar, you can import them.
    Hide
    To import an iCal calendar:
Open iCal, and then select the iCal calendar you want to import into your MobileMe calendar.
Choose File > Export > Export.
Type a calendar name, choose a location from the Where pop-up menu, and click OK.You can store the exported file anywhere, and you can delete it after you finish importing it.
Choose File > New Calendar, and then choose a MobileMe calendar (by default, your MobileMe email address).
Type a calendar name (you can use the same name as the calendar you just exported), and press Return.
Choose File > Import > Import, select your exported iCal calendar, and then click Import.
Select the destination MobileMe calendar to which you want to add the imported iCal calendar, and then click OK.
Quit iCal and go to the Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Calendars Folder and delete any/all files with "Cache" as a part of the name. Log out/in or restart and reattempt using the exact procedure which I copied from the MobileMe Help page.

  • How to remove calendar in ical

I clicked on a link that added a calendar to my ical which has now synced with my Google calendar and added all the events to it as well.  Unfortunately, I did not realize that this was going to add every single instance (multiple events per day) to all my calendars.
I'd like to reverse this action but there is not easy way to do this in ical it seems.  I cannot "delete" the calendar because it does not appear in the list of subscribed calendars in ical.
I subscribed to two calendars this way and I'd like to remove them both.  I also have to now deal with how to remove hundreds of entries in my Google calendar....and it seems there is no batch delete there either unless I pay for a third party program....arrrgh
If anyone can shed some light on this I'd be most grateful.

Thanks for your reply.  I "subscribed" to a couple of motorsports calendars in iCal by visiting a direct link on the Apple website like this one: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/calendars/2011motogpworldchampionshipcalen darprovisional_gpticketltd.html
This adds the events contained in this calendar directly to iCal and I can't for the life of me find a way to "unsubscribe" or eliminate these entries short of erasing them manually one by one.  Unfortunately, there are many of them.
If you know how I may go about doing this in an efficient manner, please let me know!

  • View colleagues' exchange calendar in iCal?

    Hi!
I can see my own Exchange calendar just fine with iCal 4 from the corporate Exchange server.  However, colleagues have also shared their Exchange calendars with me - which I can see just fine on Webmail / Exchange 2007, but I would also like to view these shared calendars in iCal.
Any help would be well appreciated!
    Thank you,
    Greg.

    Hi guys,
    "googling" I found this applescript:
    tell application "iCal"
              set color of calendar "Calendar" to choose color default color {0, 0, 0}
    end tell
Waiting for an Apple fix, you can use this. It's wok like a charm!
