Missing Camera in iMovie 10.0.5

Imported video onto external hard drive from camera / memory stick using iMovie 10.0.5 (OS X Ver 10.9.4).  Removed camera / memory stick now seeing "missing camera".  Any idea how to locate the missing events?

Thanks for the tip QuickTimeKirk.  Out of curiosity: does this mean that it is no longer possible to create camera archives in the latest version of iMovie?  Or with the changes in the iMovie platform, is it enough with simply dragging the AVCHD package into your laptop?

  • 'Missing Camera' icon with question mark!

I uploaded over one hundred movies from my camera. Some of them show up in my iMovie library but some have the 'Missing Camera' icon. The movies are in the iMovie contents folder as .mov files. so I know they are in my computer. Why won't they show up in my library? I have the latest 10.0.1 iMovie version. I am running 10.9, Mavericks.

Hi Phoenix, did you ever resolve this issue? I'm experiencing the same exact thing today and it's quite frustrating.
    Thank you!

  • Where's the built-in camera via iMovie?

With the older version, we used to have a built-in camera where I could video myself.  With the latest software, it is missing from the imovie.
please don't tell me that it has been removed!
your guidance will be greatly appreciated!

Chose File>Import Media and select Built-In iSight from the Cameras list.

  • Unable to import video frompanasonic VDR-D105 DVD video camera to imovie HD

Trying to import my video from my dvd camera but imovie can not find camera. When I connect the firewire the camera locates DVD player software and allows me to play it on my computer, but not able to import to imovie. DVD Player allows my to clip my video but does not allow me to transfer of save it on my computer.
If I'm unable to import, Is there a work around to get my video in imovie, say quicktime?
I am using imovie HD 6.0.3.

    Hi S
    1. DVD-Cameras are for playback - not to be edited from.
iMovie, FinalCut Express and Pro works with miniDV tape Cameras
This course DVD and hard disk Cameras compact info to medium BUT in
a destructive way. You can't get full quality back to be edited.
miniDV also compacts to tape BUT Non-destructive = full quality to Mac.
    2. Does Your Camera really have FireWire. Most probably You are using
the USB-cable that was delivered with Your Camera. FW is buy extra.
Best solution - though sour. Change Camera
If this isn't an option You'll have to back convert to streaming DV that iMovie
    and FCE/P understands.
    - Converting programs like may be:
MPEG Streamclip converts from mpeg-1 to whatever you like (within reason).
    QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component
    or
via analog out on Camera via an A/D-box to FW to Mac.
Non is a good way though.

  • Creating a QuickTime movie with the new Canon T5i  camera in iMovie 9.0.9.

Help needed creating a QuickTime movie with the new Canon T5i  camera in iMovie 9.0.9.  The project is done and looks good...I need help understanding what settings need to be set so I can make a QuickTime movie in the highest quality that would fit the ratio of 16.9 to be sent out to my YouTube page.  I played around with some of the settings and have not come with the right setting for the video.  I want the highest quality with the lowest amount of megabytes…thanks

I would suggest using SHARE/EXPORT MOVIE and choose 1920x1080 (if your source material supports this).
That should work well in YouTube.
If you want to go further with custom QuickTime settings,  here are some that should work, but in my experience, it will be no better than using SHARE/EXPORT MOVIE.
follow the instructions below to create a .mov video that will work on YouTube:
In iMovie, select Share > Export Using QuickTime
Next, you may want to check your Options to verify that the following settings are correct:Video settings
    Compression Type: H.264
    Frame Rate: 30 is preferred. 23.98, 24, 25, 29.97 are also acceptable.
    Data Rate: Automatic
    Key Frames: Automatic
    Frame Reordering: Unchecked
    Audio/Sound settings
    Format: AAC
Click Show advanced settings and choose Constant Bit Rate as encoding strategy
    Other settings
Size: Choose the original size of the video
“Prepare for Internet Streaming”: Fast Start

  • Importing back to camera in imove 08 ( please help)

Can you still import back to you video camera in imove 08?
    How do you do it?
    Thanks

    Welcome to iMovie Discussions.
    No you can't. Sorry.
You still can from iMovie HD 6, though. So you could use that to send your movie back to your camcorder. Click the link to go and get it: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/imovieHD6.html

  • Time differences between camera and iMovie

    Hi,
When I import footage from my Mini-DV camera into iMovie I am seeing a difference between the time displayed on the tape and time displayed in iMovie. The camera says 48 seconds while iMovie says 44 seconds. I thought that it might be related to the framerate of the video in iMovie, but I have changed this to 25 fps which matches the video camera and am still seeing a different time. The framerate needs to be perfect as the footage is going to be shown side-by-side with a animated graph which builds with time.
Does anyone have any idea what could cause this time difference?
    Thanks

< scratching head > we had something about a NTSC/PAL issue.. hmm.. ?
if possible, open an existing PAL project (window titles says DV-PAL), save it under a diff. name, import into that project, delete the not wanted parts..
another option is, quit iMovie, delete ~/Library/Preferences any com.apple.iMovie.plist file.. relaunch iM.. that 'resets' iM... sometimes, it starts to stumble..

  • I have a Sony DCR -SR32 which does not appear in the list of compatible cameras for imovie '11. Does anyone know if there is way to import files from this camera ?

I have a Sony DCR-SR32 HDD video camera which does not appear in the list of compatible cameras for imovie '11. Does anyone know if there is way of importing video from this camera to imovie ?
    Thanks
    Pheona

    Greetings Pheona,
That appears to be a hard drive based camecorder.  Usually these mount on the desktop of your computer as a little white hard drive icon.  If you go inside you should be able to find the movie files the camera is saving.  See what format they are (the last 3 letters at the end of the file name is a good place to start).
You can drag the movie files from the camera hard drive to the computer to copy them.  Then convert them with a video file conversion program to a format iMovie can understand.
Try converting one of the files using a video file conversion program like Video Monkey: http://videomonkey.org/downloads/
In the "Convert to" drop down menu choose "DV" (Preferred), "Quicktime", or "MP4".  Then import the resulting file into iMovie and see if that works any better.
If that program can't convert the files you can try another file conversion program:

    Hello bbryson68,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
From your post I understand you're wanting to move iMovie project and event data to another drive.  I found the following information in the iMovie help that answers your question.
Copy or move projects, events, or clips between libraries or storage devices
Connect a storage device that contains the target library to your Mac, or copy the target library to your Mac.
Choose File > Open Library, and choose an option from the submenu. You can choose from recently opened libraries, locate an existing library on your Mac, or create a new library. The selected library is opened in the Libraries list, with the first event selected and its contents displayed in the browser.
In the Libraries list, select the event that contains the item you want to move or copy.
In the browser, select the item you want to move or copy.Tip:  To select multiple clips or projects in the same library, hold down the Command key as you click the items you want to select, or drag a selection rectangle around the items.
    Do one of the following:
To move items between events or libraries: Drag the clip or project to another event or library.
To copy items between events or libraries: Option-drag the clip or project to another event or library by first starting to drag and then holding down the Option key as you drag.
    Work with multiple libraries

  • Using built in camera with iMovie 3.03

Is there any way I can use iMovie 3.03 with the built in iSight camera? The mode switch doesn't recognize the iSight camera and says 'No Camera Attached'

iMovie 3 is simply too old. By the way, iMovie 3 is aso so buggiest version, ever.
Why not use iMovie 6, which shipped with your computer.

It may help to rebuild your iPhoto Library's database, as detailed in the article linked below.
