Missing CD/DVD drive after windows 8.1 installation

Hi, Late last year I updated to Windows 8.1 (from 8.0, I only purchsed my notebook in October last year).Since the update I have had numerous problems, but I have managed to work my way through all the issues & resolve them. But a week ago I started getting this warning message popping up: "Cyberlink Power2Go""No Burner is currently available or you don't have rights to access burner" I then discovered that I can't play any CD's or DVD's as I have done before. Looking in "This PC" (formally known as "My Computer") I cant see the E drive at all.  My system details:Compaq CQ45 Notebook PCWindows 8.1 64-bit Following the prompts & advice on HP assistant, I have all the latest software updates & drivers etc (although i'm no IT whizz so i'm not100% sure) Any assistance for my latest problem would be greatly appreciated :-)

  • Missing CD/DVD drive after installing iTunes w/ Windows Vista

I have a Toshiba Satellite A135-S4427 laptop. The problem I am having is when I install iTunes my CD/DVD drive disappears. The drive is listed in the device mananger but it is corrupt ( yellow triangle). I can restore the drive by going back to system restore before iTunes was installed. It was sugested by Toshiba that I wait for the Windows Vista/ iPod fix. It has been sometime and there has been no word of a fix. I just bought my laptop in march and my iPod last month and I can not use it unless I load all of music one time and do a systems restore and loose it. It has become very fustrating as all the hot fixes do not apply to Vista but XP. I really need some support from someone. Microsoft charges 95 bucks a hour ( I think) and Toshiba says it is a Apple/Windows problem.
    Thanks-

Here is the Diagnostics for my drive. I want to make a correction to my last post. I am only showing lower filters in the Redgit.

  • LOST Touch screen DRIVER after WINDOWS 10 UPGRADE.

Hi I want  to ask if the problem about the  lost touchscreen HID driver after Windows 10 has been resolved...

Hi there ,  Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome! This is a great site to get answers and ask questions. I read your post on the HP Support Forums and I understand that you are having an issue with the Touchscreen on your HP Notebook - 15-ac020nr. You had mentioned that since your Windows 10 Upgrade, it no longer works.  Have you tried doing all updates (Windows, HP Support Assistant, BIOS)?Have you tried restarting the Notebook a couple of times?Have you tried to run the Windows Troubleshooter? Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system that need updating for Windows 10. The HP Support Assistant will also help find a proper driver for you to use.  Updated Windows 10 drivers will become available on the HP Drivers and Downloads Page for your product. They will be released as they become available to HP. I did find a troubleshooting document for you called Touch Screen Issues. Although it does say it is for Windows 8, it will still work for Windows 10.  Please follow the provided troubleshooting steps and re-post with the results.  Have a great day!

  • Closing DVD drive in Windows

Is the only way to close the DVD drive under windows by pushing it in or is there another way?
    john

I've not found one other than pushing it in. The problem is that Windows presumes that you're going to use the button on the front of the optical drive to close it. So, when you don't have access to it you're stuck with the push. I'm not particularly happy about it either although it would be nice if Apple implemented it correctly in the drivers sooner rather than later.
This unfortunately only affects the Mac Pro as all other optical drives in all other Macs are slot loading.

  • Satellite Pro A200 - Can't install Windows 7 due missing CD/DVD driver

Hello, I have a Satellite Pro A200, PSAE4E-046018N5 and I'm trying to install Windows 7 but I can't pass from step one because it doesn't found a driver:
A message box saying: A required CD/DVD drive devise driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD or USB flash drive, please insert it now.
    -What to do?
    CD-ROM is a HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T20N ATA, the actual driver have version 6.0.6002.18005 (date:2006-06-21)
    Best regards
    /peter

    Hi Peter,
Do you try an upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 at the moment? If yes please try a new and clean installation of Windows 7. Does this work?
Another question: Is your CD/DVD drive working properly or is it listed with yellow exclamation mark in device manager?
In your case I would try to remove the drive from device manager and restart the notebook. After this the drive will be recognized automatically.

  • Windows 7 installation - missing cd/dvd driver

    Hello!
First of all i wanted to greet everyone here, as this is my first post on this forum
    Now to the problem.
I am happy owner of HP Pavilion dv7-1150ew laptop. It's a good computer, i really like it, but the OS it came with (Vista Home Premium) was temporary from the beginning. I knew from day one i'll install Windows 7 as soon as it becomes available. And the day came. Windows 7 Professional appeared on the MSDNAA site. I downloaded 64-bit version, burned the DVD disc and waited for the weekend to come to do the installation and post-intallation stuff.
So, am i Windows 7 user now? No. I am not. I didn't even get to the installation process The installer boots up flawlessly, i choose language, then i click Install now, wait and... "Missing required CD/DVD drive device driver" message appears. Here's what i tried:
    - installing from USB pendrive (formatted the pendrive to NTFS using diskpart, unpacked the iso to pendrive using ultraiso and winrar)
    - providing Intel ICH9M/E-M AHCI SATA driver version 8.9 to the installer - it shows the progress bar for a while, then the "No new devices could be found" message appears
    - installing 32 bit version
    - installing from USB pendrive with DVD drive and secondary harddrive disconnected
    - installing to clean harddrive (i dropped both system and recovery partitions)
    - updating laptop BIOS
    - updating DVD drive firmware
Still the same problem. No required driver, and if i load the Intel SATA driver - no new devices.
The Windows 7 Professional from MSDNAA is at least RTM release, as it has no RC, Beta or whatever next to it.
I googled that others who had this problem solved it by switching SATA controllers from AHCI to IDE mode (or otherwise), but BIOS on the DV7 laptop doesn't have any regarding option.
Does anyone have any ideas? Please?
    This question was solved.

According to that, you don't seem to have added in an UpperFilters entry for GEARAspiWDM.
Did you not do that (as per the instructions in the document on what to do if the UpperFilters entry is missing)?
Or did you revert the key after attempting a filter edit and still getting the error message?

Not if you just do an Archive & Install.

IMPORTANT: Make sure you select "preserve user preferences and data" when you performed the A&I.

  • Install iTunes 7.6, and loose my DVD Drive after it.

I run: Windows Vista Ultimate PRE-SP1. Lite-ON Blu-Ray DVD Player.
I install iTunes v7.6 and get the following after reboot:
"Warning! iTunes was not properly installed. If you wish to import or burn CD's you need to reinstall iTunes."
My DVD drive is no longer recognized by my computer. Windows Hardware says there is a driver error. Re-installation of these Drivers results in same error. Upon removal of iTunes the error magicly dissapears and there is my DVD drive again.
Please Tell me someone knows of a hotfix for this issue! I am missing my iTunes.

No this is an Apple issue. I ran out and bought 4 Mac's laptops last year when I had to buy a "Vista" computer.
Because of my business I have to use PC (software). since I purchased Vista I was unable to use my 3 video pods (my kids and mine). itunes did exactly what you are discribing here. I totally blamed microsoft..
HOWEVER after downloading service pack 1 and purchasing a new iphone 3G it was working like a charm ....NOT a problem. I used "mobile me" to sync my outlook and was happier than I had been in over a year with BOTH my PC and Mac.
After the upgrade last week (I upgraded 8-1-08) my PC sees the CD/DVD drive however itunes is disabling it. I have a ton of software on my PC Office ultimate 07, Photoshop 6 Roxio 10 all of it. NONE of those had updates.
I am NOT happy with the thousands that I have placed into apple the last 6 months. I really thought this was Microsoft...it is not.
I am lucky because I have a Mac Pro to sync my iphone too (even though I am NOT proficent on a Mac yet). I actually signed onto these boards to see if I could run it on Mac since I installed it on PC..
I tried to see if I would downgrade to the previous version ...no luck...apple likes to install as soon as you boot up...I also tried to restore to a previous time (prior to the upgrade) that also didn't work..itunes again downloaded immediatly after a reboot.
Apple needs to get a fix...I was going to automate a business with MACs...I have my kids on both now..I have an appointment with their business sales..
I think I will bring this computer in and tell them we will talk AFTER you fix this simple problem.. I would HATE to lose patients medical records because of a bad download.

  • How to recover DVD drive after WinXP Service Pack1 Upgrade on Protege M200

I have lost my DVD Multi drive after upgrading WInXP SP1 on my Protege Tablet M200. On restarting ElbyCheck reported a conflict with Drag'n Drop v3.00189. I (stupidly) chose to resolve it.
The situation is pretty much as described in FAQ Ref.: TRO0000001bf9 (http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/faq.jsp?service=EU&FID=TRO0000001bf9
Is there a way to reinstall the drivers and recover the DVD without having to completely restore the Tablet to its factory image?
The good news is that the DVD works - it correctly allows the Toshiba Recovery DVD-Rom to boot up. The DVD is mounted in the Tablet M200 docking station and I don't think there is any other way to connect it to the Tablet.
WinXP Device Manager reports a problem with the Mat****a DVD-Ram UJ-810 USB device: "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupt or missing (code 39)". However, uninstalling or reinstalling the drivers does not help because WinXP reports that the current drivers are installed. Thanks to SP1 there's also no previous drivers to roll-back to...
Is there a way of getting the right drivers reloaded?
    Any help is much appreciated!
    Bo

    Helloo,
I know that it is not the same issue but you might try the steps below listed since it is the same error message and there seems to be a fault in the registery of XP

  • Lost CD/DVD Drive after 10.5.8 Update

After updating from 10.5.7 (which had no problems) to 10.5.8 my CD/DVD drive disappeared! System Profiler (under Hardware/Disc Burning) says: "No burning device was found. If you are using an external device please make sure that it is connected and powered properly."
There was a disc in the drive at the time of the update and now I am unable to eject it. If it is relevant the disc is a Windows XP installation disc.
Any ideas what I should do.
    ---Paul

Well, damned if I know what happened, but I rebooted to get ready for Combo Update and the CD/DVD drive reappeard! It works fine now.
I had rebooted several times after the problem occurred so rebooting wasn't the simple fix.
Sorry to alarm anyone about this problem.

  • Portege Z830: Can't install Win7, complains about missing CD/DVD driver

    Hi!
I have a brand new Portege Z830 and as usual wanted to start with installing a new installation of Windows 7 x64 (as I don't want the supplied software and can't trust that it is safe anyway). I backed up the entire drive, prepared a bootable USB flashdisk with Windows installation and started it. The flashdisk boots OK, Windows ask me about my preferred language and keyboard, then shows a screen where I can choose between Install, Repair and something else (Recovery Console, I think).
I click Install, Windows starts the installation program aand as soon as a first dialog appears, it shows an error message which says essentially this (it's a translation of my localized Windows' message): "A required driver for CD/DVD drive is missing. If you use a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD or flashdisk, insert it now." And I can't get over this error message. The strange thing is, there is no reason for Windows to require any extra drivers, as it can (apparently) read the installation flashdisk and it can see the ultrabook's SSD, too (can be verified both in the recovery console and by clicking the Browse button of this dialog). So far I tried:
    1) Four different Windows 7 images (two of them from MSDN AA, two physical, all of which have been successfully used to install the OS before).
    2) Switch SATA mode from AHCI to Compatible.
    3) Two different flashdisks.
    4) All possible combinations of boot order.
Nothing worked. I even tried e-mailing Toshiba, but all messages come back with "user unknown" (understandable, I had to guess the addresses since Toshiba doesn't seem to provide any official way to contact them - or is hiding it so well I couldn't find it). Does anyone have any idea what I could try next? I rather like the Z830 and would love to use it, but the ability to install my own installation of the OS is essential for me.
    Thanks, Pepak

    > I even tried e-mailing Toshiba...
Maybe stupid question now but have you tried to contact Microsoft too? If BIOS is OK and if all USB ports are working properly I dont think it is Toshiba related issue. Toshiba offers notebook with original recovery image (WIN7 64BIT HOME PREMIUM) and possibility to create bootable USB with recovery image that can be used anytime you want.
What you do now is your own OS installation. What Toshiba must do is to offer all important drivers, tools and utilities on drivers download page.
What else you can try? Try to obtain external USB ODD and try to install WIN7 using Microsoft installation disc. Im pretty sure this will work.

  • Sdatellite M100 does not recognise CD/DVD drive in Windows XP

In device manager it is listed but with a yellow explanation mark.
No mention of it in my computer.
    No icon.
I am able to open the drawer and i have put several types of cd/dvds in their with no results.
The light flashes orange on the drawer door. The drive is listed as 'Mat****advd-ram uj-841s-(sm) ' in the bios under boot devices.
I am trying to figure out how to remove the drive and replug but it seems i have to take the thing apart to do it and am hesitant without a diagram.
There is only a user guide in the downloads on this site so any help is appreciated :0)
Oh i also downloaded the driver from this site for the drie. Previous to that i uninstalled the drive in device manager but there was no change when i installed the downloaded driver.
Just using a Ubuntu Linux live cd and it is running.
Unfortunately its going to be hard to know for sure what is the issue this way as i don't want to install ubuntu on this machine as it is someone elses machine and they are far from ready to try linux.
I am in a live session now.
Ah ok when i go into the media folder there is no mention of the cd/dvd drive.
So there really is a problem unless i can physically unplug it from the mb and replug :0( Oh wait here it is...under 'cdrom' folder' but only files with a relevence to installing side by side with windows are mentioned...exe files, wubi etc.
Ah ok this is beyond my experience.
Can anyone give this amateur a tip?

First of all remove the ODD (CD/DVD) drive from the list in device manager.
Then access the registry and remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM\ CurrentControlSet \ Control\Class {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Finally you should reboot the unit.
After that windows will recognize the ODD again

  • No dvd drives after installing itunes

after i installed, dvd rom and burner could not be found, went pc managment, there, but pc will cant find them...any ideas?

    hi gjmiles!
i think Moz is bang on with his/her diagnosis here. (we've been getting a flurry of reports recently of this problem hitting Packard Bell owners.)
if you'd like to doublecheck, head back into your Device Manager and expand the DVD drive entry. if you see a warning message there citing code 41, i'd go with the treatment outlined on the MS KB doc.
if you've got the time and the inclination, would you mind trying something for me before you apply the MS KB doc treatment? head into itunes and see if it will let you do a "help > run CD diagnostics ...", and post back with the results.
rationale ... my best guess at the moment as to why this is hitting Packard Bell owners is that there is software pre-installed on the PC which is leaving problematic filter entries in the registry. i don't know what software package that might be. but an itunes CD diagnostics displays people's filter entries. so it might help us get some idea about the causes of this particular problem ... or at least falsify my current best-guess hypothesis about the causes of this.
    love, b
