Missing chapters in TOC

My book has two chapters and a photo in Intro Media. The TOC page shows the two expected Chapter selection dots at the bottom of the page.
When I preview on my iPad 3 the TOC contains the Media Intro and first chapter as selection dots. Ther is no way of getting to chapter 2.
I have tried deleting the iBook from the iPad and turning it off and on. Anyone have a suggestion about the problem?

I have partly rebuilt my book from scratch. I've added the two chapters and five sections per chapter. I've added the first photo, full page on each section, the text in succeeding pages, and been careful only to name the chapters and sections via the Books panel. I did restyle the Chapter and Section styles (added an underline and extended it across the page, but changed nothing else. I have also reset my iPad and ensured the eBook was deleted from iBooks.
I've sent the eBook to the iPad via Preview - the same problem - it opens on the first page of the fisrt Chapter. I then go to the TOC which lists the first five sections. There is no dot button at the bottom to switch to the TOC for the second chapter.
Running on a 15" MacBookPro early 2008 with 4 gig memory.
Any thoughts?

  • Topic missing in Word TOC only, but OK in document

Sorry for yet another print issue.. I know Peter Grainge's
site and have also done some research but could not solve this
    problem. This applies to RH7.
Certain topics are always missing in the TOC of the printed
documentation. If I delete the TOC and generate it new, then the
topic shows correctly. If I only update the TOC without deleting,
then the Topic does not show. It is generated in the actual
document correctly with all its content. I have tried deleting a
topic in RoboHelp and creating it new but without effect. There is
no pattern concerning the topics missing and the file/topic names
are short with characters and numbers mixed, but no spaces or
    special characters.
Cond. build tags are used in the project, but not applied to
the concerned topics on content nor topic level. There is no
special content in them, only plain text. No error message during
output. I have tried wrapping them in books or placing them in
various positions in the TOC, no luck.
Do you have any idea what the problem could be?

    Welcome to the forum.
1] "...the tool overlooks certain files."
Online help and printed documentation generate in different
ways. Online help includes all topics not excluded by a build
expression. Printed documentation is the opposite. It only prints
what you tell it to print in the print layout, and even then it
will refuse if the topic is excluded by a build expression. For
good reason the print layout can include an excluded topic
(sometimes you generate the layout with the expression, sometimes
    without).
If it says a file is missing and it really is not covered by
the above, I'm struggling to see how. It suggests a corrupt CPD at
first glance but if that was corrupt, the file would not show in
Project Manager in the first place unless the file is missing and
the corruption is causing it display regardless. Have you checked
the file is there, using Windows Explorer? Somehow I don't think
this is it. Is there no other clue in the Output view?
2] Changes don't percolate through as not everyone wants
that. Frustrating for those who do. Try Insert | Field | Title.
That will at least keep your topics inline with any changes.
3] The online TOC and print layout TOC are again deliberately
not the same. Many people don't want them the same. First time you
get the online TOC but then whatever you save in print layout
    sticks.
If you always want them to be the same, simply click the Move
All Left icon and then the Move All Right icon.
If you use RH7 you can have multiple TOCs and you could have
    one designated for print.
Bullets and numbering have always been a pain as you can see
on my site but I think most of the blame is with Word. If you
follow some Word forums, I have seen more than one guru with the
opinion that bullets and numbering have not worked properly in Word
    since Word 2.
Working with bullets and numbering the way I describe, which
I accept is limiting, I never have to reformat my documents for
    that reason.

My audio book is missing chapters what do I do?

Go to Itune, log into your account, go to Purchase History, it will show all of your purchase. Write down purchase order# numbers for those books.  Email to the Itune costomer service with those order numbers and ask them to restore those purchase back to your account.   They promtly replied by my emai.  It was relatively easy and worth it.

  • Missing Topics in TOC

When I generate webhelp the TOC comes out fine. When I
generate either a word or .pdf file the first two topics/books are
missing. They are listed in the Chapter Layout. The headings are
the same as the other topics that are printing in the TOC. Any
    suggestions?

    Just noodling here a little . . .
    1. Which heading style(s) are you using for topic titles? Are
they consistently applied for all topics, looking at the html view?
Are there any stray spaces or html code immediately before the
    <begin heading> tags?
    2. Are you generating print doc with the project's style
    mapping dot, or some other?
    3. Did you select "Maintain HTML heading levels"?
In points 2 and 3, I don't know whether these settings (or
which option) may be causing the problem; just suggesting that you
change one at a time to test print output.

  • Missing topics in TOC and index

    I am using Robohelp 6.
When using robohelp for Word with the primary output to html
help several topics do not show up in the TOC nor the index. They
appear correctly when I generate winhelp2000.
Is there some special setting I need to make? The other
topics seem to handled correctly and display correctly.
    Thanks, Jim

    Hi Jim
Your situation is reflective of the reason you may wish to
consider changing over to RoboHelp HTML for creating output that is
HTML based. As time goes on, more and more folks are shifting away
from that product in favor of RoboHelp HTML. As a result, we are
losing collective knowledge about how to coax it to work for the
    HTML formats.

  • Missing chapters / Tracks in audibooks

    Hi,
I am wondering: have I been unlucky with my pruchases, or is it iTune standard not to divide audibooks into useable parts?
First I bought a novel. Came in 5 chunks of 2 hours plus. No chapters. Fall asleep, and next time you'll have to rewind and forward to locate the point you were at. Reminds me of my old tape recorder.
Next I bought a collection of short stories. If any audibook cries out for a clear seperation in tracks it's a short story collection. One story - one track! Right? No! Two big chunks, 2:05 and 46:54. Holding between them some 10 stories. With no way to locate each story!
Have I hit upon an incompetent vendor (audible.com) or is this the standard I can expect from all audiobooks on iTune? In which case it's back to CDs for me!
    Thanks!

    Give Doug's scripts a try,  Doug's AppleScripts for iTunes ♫ - dougscripts.com
for example: Bring Out Yer Dead   Re-associate a "dead track" with a file found via Spotlight.

  • Missing Tabs in TOC

    Hi there,
I'm going batty trying to figure out why the reference page is not inserting tabs into my TOC as specified.  Working in structured FM 10, and all of the reference pages, and formats are the same for all files.  I am auto-generating the TOC by going to Add> Table of Contents.
Here is a picture of the reference page:
And here is a picture of the resulting TOC:
Where are they??  Where, FrameMaker, where?
As you can see, the tab stops are not even close to the edge of the page, so the tabs should not be getting eaten...they just aren't being inserted at all.  Going through the whole TOC and manually inserting 1 tab in each line fixes the issue.  But...isn't that what the reference page is supposed to do?
    Regards,
    Hannah

    Hannah,
Along with what Michael said, I would make absolutely sure that the paragraph format that FM applies to a TOC exactly matches the corresponding format that you are configuring on the reference page. They must be exactly the same, otherwise FM will not make the association and will not use your format.
I've had lots of frustrations with TOCs in the past but they were user error 100% of the time. This was even after I had a good working knowledge of the software. So I say hang in there... you should be able to figure it out.
Because the tabs aren't inserted at all, I do think there is a mismatch somewhere. Something I observed, may or may not mean anything... the snippet from your reference page looks a little odd to me. Is this the TOC flow? When I look at a TOC flow on one of my reference pages, the following line is always there at the top:
    openObjectId <$relfilename>:<$ObjectType> <$ObjectId>
I've never known quite how it works but it seems to be important. Like I said, though, this is just something I noticed, may or may not have anything to do with your issue.

  • Connecting lines missing from binary TOC

    Hello!
Hope you can help me...I'm using X5.
My problem is that I lose the connecting lines between the
square/minus boxes in the TOC when I select binary.
Is there a way to have both?
    Thanks much, Deb

    Welcome to our community, Deb
It is my understanding that if you enable the Binary TOC,
none of the styling attributes will have any effect.
Unless Pete Lees steps in here to set us straight and advise
I'm wrong in my assumption, I'm going to say we just can't have our
    cake and Edith too.
Seems lots of things in life are a trade off, eh? Want
something over here? You have to give up something over there.

  • TS1702 I downloaded and iBook and half the letters are missing and then when I got to the end I was missing chapters. What should I do?  I don't want rebuy and download again

When I downloaded a book from iBooks, half the chapters where incomplete. What should I do?

Books can be downloaded again for free as long as you use the same Apple ID. You can read about it here to make sure, but books and apps are available everywhere as free downloads - from what I can remember.
After you confirm that you can download the book again, delete it and download it again. Go to the iBookstore and tap on the purchased tab. Look for the book and tap the cloud icon next to it to download it again.

  • TS1424 I have purchased a iBook that has chapters missing. How do I get the whole book downloaded?

I paid for an iTunes book and several chapters are missing from the download. Is there a way to get the missing chapters?

Have you tried deleting it from the iBooks app and re-downloading it via the Purchased tab in the ibookstore in iBooks ? Re-downloading.
If it re-downloads in the state then try the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via Store > View My Account and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find that book and use the 'Report a Problem' link.

  • ToC stopped working on deadline day

I have an InDesign book project, over 300 pages, due at the printer today.
This morning my table of contents stopped working properly, it no longer references most of my chapters. I'm getting ToC references for 3 out of 37 chapters.
I've tried creating a new book file: no help.
I've tried removing and re-adding chapters to the book: no help.
I've tried rebuilding the ToC style: no help.
I've tried reapplying the paragraph styles which are supposed to be referenced: no help.
I've tried adding new text objects to the missing chapters, these do show up in the ToC.
If I copy the content out of a chapter and into a new document, it will be show up. But if I do this to all 34 missing chapters I will A) miss the deadline, B) lose all my see[also] index references, and C) go mad.
    Has anyone seen this before?
Got any ideas or suggestions for a fix?
    [panicking]

I'll try the .inx route. That's a good suggestion, thanks.
Yes, I do have 'Include Book Documents (bookName)' ticked and it is showing the correct book name. Definitely worth checking for the obvious mistake
    [edited to add]
    Ixnay on the .inx, eh?*
*That is to say: the InDesign Interchange format export-import tango did not help.
