Missing Character/Paragraph Palette after reinstallation of AI CS 11

Missing character palette after reinstallation of AI CS 11. My desktop computer crashed and I installed the program on my laptop which is running WINDOWS VISTA. The character/paragraph palette is missing. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks, but I already tried that. Doesn't work. There is a problem when you reinstall AI that this happens. The typical fixes for earlier versions of deleting the AIprefs folder don't work as AI changed after AI 10 and the prefs are spread out. I appreciate your reply, though.

  • Space Before/After Not Refreshing in Paragraph Palette

Hi, I'm using Illustrator CS4 and am frustrated that in the paragraph palette, when I select text with specific settings for space before or space after, these values do not refresh to what is applied to the text. The values just remain at the last setting that I input or something. So I have no way of determining what the space before or space after is on different chunks of type. And if I try to adjust the settings up or down (using the arrows), it will jump to whatever setting is displayed (which is not what is actually applied to the type.
    - Has anyone else ever experienced this behavior?
    - Any workarounds?
    - Any other ways to detect the actual values applied to the text?
    THANKS! Very frustrating bug.

are you selecting the text Frame? if the palette shows the last used settings it means the whole textFrame has no custom spacing applied. If you see nothing, it means mixed settings.
you need to place the cursor inside a paragraph in order to be picked up by the palette.

Illustrator CS4 no longer previews fonts in Character palette after Yosemite upgrade
    Please help...Thanks

    inkydmark,
You may wish to roll back from Yosemite and wait to see whether the issues will be solved and reported as such.
Weeding out in older plugins seems to have helped some in some cases. It also seems that JAVA Runtime may be involved, for some it seems to help to roll back to an ealier version, for others to update to the newest.
All the above is more or less hearsay so far, with no definite final confirmation.
In any case, there is something to be sorted out by someone. Yosemite was made long after CS4, so it may be difficult.
There is a way round an even worse issue shown in post #2 here:

  • Missing tools in toolbar after activation

This is one of the strangest things I've seen in a long time.
I purchased InDesign CS2 about two years ago and have been using it without issue in that time. However, the system I'd originally installed the software on crashed recently, making it inoperable due to the processor and motherboard going out.
I had a new system built and loaded the same InDesign I'd been using for two years, went through the activation process, expecting to be instructed to deactivate first, but it went through with no problem and I've been using it since. But today while in the middle of a major magazine layout with a client here in my office, a notice popped up that my 30 day grace period had expired and I needed to activate my InDesign before continuing. So I went through the process, received another popup window thanking me for activating. I thought all was ok....until the client said he wanted a color background on his page, which required using the rectangle tool to draw the box. I went to the toolbar and to my amazement, several tools were all of a sudden missing, including the rectangle tool. Also missing are the line segment tool, free transform tool, gradient tool, and zoom tool. Also, using my favorite keyboard shortcuts for zooming don't work anymore...CTL/Spacebar to zoom in, and CTL/ALT/Spacebar to zoom out.
Everything else seems to be there that I use...Links, Character/Paragraph, Text Wrap, Para Styles, Swatches, Pages, Layers, etc. It's just those particular tools missing from the toolbox.
I tried reopening InDesign and didn't help. I rebooted and nothing helped. The tools are still missing.
Also, when I reopened it, the same notice popped up again, telling me I needed to activate the software. So I went through the activation process a second time, again receiving a "thank you for activating" popup. I closed and reopened again, and this time got no window instructing me to activate.
By now, the client had to leave to make another meeting.
I contacted Adobe Customer Support but was like talking to a brick wall. The "tech" suggested I create a case explaining the problem, which I've done...then reloading InDesign. What worries about that is running into having to activate after I just activated. I mentioned this concern to the "tech" and was told they'd override the activation. How would they know to do that? And if I attempt to reload InDesign, would I run into the possibility I may not be able to use it at all? Would it be seen as trying to load it on a second machine (which I don't have)? Right now I can at least use the program without those tools and work around it until things hopefully get worked out.
While waiting on my case to be reviewed at Adobe, I just thought someone here may have a suggestion to get those tools back.

    Bob,
The only thing that comes up is that d*** registration page. In fact, it's coming up every time I open InDesign. Odd thing is, I recently received the following e-mail from Adobe:
    "Dear Denny Cannon,
Thank you for purchasing and registering your copy of Adobe InDesign CS 2. Please take this opportunity to select your complimentary benefit. We hope you enjoy your new software and this extra benefit."
You know, I've heard horror stories about Vista and was fully expecting problems when I had to go with the new system and Vista. But actually, Vista has been running flawlessly. I'm running a LOT of programs and have had no issues with any....EXCEPT Adobe. There was the Arial Narrow font issue of the Arial Narrow family not showing up in any Adobe programs, Pagemaker 6.5 not compatible with Vista that required me to have to resort to borrowing another computer with XP and Pagemaker so I could retrieve over 300 Pagemaker files and copy them to Word docs, and now this. My only problems with Vista have been Adobe related. Arrrggh.

    Thanks for the help

Often when people think they've deleted an application, what's really happened is that they deleted its icon from the Dock. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Applications
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-A to open the Applications folder. If the application is in that folder, drag it to the Dock (not to the Desktop or anywhere else.) The other Dock icons will move out of the way to make a place for it.

  • Can't find home drive after reinstallation of O.S.X

    Dear friends,
I have one ibook G4 and a Macbook Pro. Two days ago, the ibook G4 failed to start up, I tried in safe mode then pass through. Then I run Onyx-automation followed by restart, after that neither my desktop nor the sidebar of the finder window show the home drive icons,( I partitioned the internal hard disk into two drives). But when I run Disk utility and found both are there correctly, including the files and capacity, usage etc. it tested both drives "appears OK". Yesterday, I tried to reinstall O.S.X Tiger 10.4 without removing previous system via a firewire to my Macbook Pro which installed with Leopard( the disc drive of my ibookG4 corrupted last year).
finally, the hard drives are still invisible, I did tick the display options for hard disks from the preference panel of Finder. To the worse, the same problem happened to my Macbook Pro after I restarted it.
It seems a simply software issue, physically the hard disks are ok through the disk verify and permission verify.
    Headache! Please advise ASAP.
    thank you,

what happens when you enter commandshiftc in finder? that should show all the drives. if it doesn't, maybe the drive has acquired the hidden flag. run the following command in terminal
    sudo chflags 0 /
you'll have to enter your admin password which you won't see as you type it. that's normal. see if the drive shows up.

    hi, V.K.
after running the two commands, suddenly, The Macintosh HD icon showed up at both desktop and sidebar in finder, but the other drive (I partition into two parts) still not showing. Then I open Onyx and tick the "unhidden those hidden files", I found that drive. So I conclude it was hidden by sth. But I don't know how to unhidden it, the icon always in grey.
    Can you please instruct again.
    thank you.

aha, so it was a hidden flag after all. then run
    sudo chflags 0 /volumes/*
you may need to restart after that to make the second drive show up.

sorry, I haven't dealt with Tiger in such a long time I don't remember if it respects chflags. ask on Tiger forums.

I don't have a source attribute for this (maybe I wrote it myself!):
There are visibility toggling instructions at [this web site|http://www.pinkmutant.com/articles/invisible.html] using Terminal or Applescript.
If you don't like Applescript or Terminal there is an application called [JuhOS X|http://www.saunalahti.fi/~juhruo/juhosx> that lets you toggle visibility on individual items. It does not have the most intuitive interface but your drive should appear on the first page. Check it really is invisible, then click on the drive and toggle visibility. Effects will not take place until you restart your finder, so the easiest thing to do then will be to restart your computer.

So you have business contacts that were lost... do you not have these on a Database in some shape or form? Sounds like you need to invest in a RAID1 backup setup for your computer so you dont have this issue in the future.
As for repairing your problem, sounds like you are going to need to start from scratch at this point or if the data is still on your phone look into a program that can take the information from the phone onto iTunes.

  • Paragraph space after

    Hi
I'm producing a daily  newsletter with sub-heads and we want to have a small space after the sub-head and before the body text
But I don't the space to be as big as a line - more like half a line. I have tried changing the leading and putting as small a value as I can in the paragraph space after box ( like 0.5mm) but still cannot get less than a line size.
Any suggestions? shld add am using CS6 & windows
    Thx

    No - nothing like that.
And if I make the space after 1pt or 1mm, it stays the same. Even if i make it 0.1mm it stays the same. Guess there must be soemkind of minimum space allowed?

  • Character input disaplay after " " when show up in af:outputFormatted

When I input text after "<" in text field and save it in database varchar2 column. It is found that all character disappear after "<" when I retrieve it with af:outputFormatted. If I retrieve it with outputText. It can show up properly.
For example, I input <abc> in the text field. I then the retrieve character from database. All the text <abc> disappear.

Sorry for typo in title: it should read as "character input disappear after "<" when show up in <af:outputFormatted
If I input &lt;abc>, then, the text <abc> show up properly
hence, what can be done to fix it if I just input <abc> instead of &lt;abc>

Thank you Bill. You could help me with the answer and the one in the other forum:
"Acrobat has a separate installation process and needs to be activated with your Adobe ID I think. The question on CC is really one for the folks in the CC forum (Adobe Creative Cloud), not the Acrobat forum".

Start by making a backup, then use Find and Replace.
Set the Search to Source Code. Search for ". " (without the
    quotes).
Replace with ".</p><p>" (again, without the
    quotes). Click Replace All.
You can finally tidy it up with Commands > Apply Source
    Formatting.
