Missing clipping path files cs6

I have about 65 complicated photos I have outlined in Photoshop CS6. Opened tif file. outlined file, saved path as outline. saved outline path as a clipping path. Saved the file. Went back to use the files and all but one of my files is missing its clipping path.they are all in the same folder. in years of making and saving clipping paths I have never had this happen. Any Ideas? Its about 8 hours of work and I really don't want to be up all night redoing them. Please help.

I just experienced this problem. I have Photoshop cs6, and I send a Photoshop file with a saved clipping path to 2 different people. When both received the file, the clipping path was gone, missing, deleted. My PSD file still has the clipping path.
I archived the PSD file inside a Gzipped Tarball, and send a link to download it.
Is this a bug?

  • Clipping path issue - CS6

    Hi
    This is probably a simple fix but is driving me crazy!
    I have started a clipping path and since saving the image and opening it now, if I start adding to the path and then select the path and inverse the image - I lose the the part of the image that I have just added the path to - see image.
    Any ideas what I have done?
    Thanks

    Select the Paths and check the Path Operations.

  • Missing Menu items - (Clipping Paths) InDesign CS3

    I've logged this before but had no success. However - I now know what's causing my problem.
    Ever since CS2, we've had a problem with missing clipping paths. We get the same in CS3 where Object>Clipping Path loses the 2 sub menus (Options and Convert Clipping Path to Frame). This problem seems to be on the increase and I'm having to fix about 10 per week on a base of 200 machines.
    If I log on to the faulty machine as a different user then it's OK (so it has to be preferences - doesn't it?). I don't want to delete prefs as we have certain settings which we want to keep. And then I discover that if I simply replace the InDesign contents in Applications, it fixes the problem.
    Because this is a very quick fix, and production being production, I didn't get time to work on the problem. But eventually I got a clone of a failed machine and was able to get to the problem.
    Domain/(domain name)/Users/(Users name)/Library/Caches/Adobe InDesign/InDesign SavedData.
    If I move this file between machines, I can move the fault around. If I bin the file, it gets recreated and all is OK.
    From what I've been able to discover, a combination of SavedData and InDesign Defaults make up the InDesign Prefs.
    So, the question is: what problems could I generate by binning SavedData every time a user logs on to the machine??
    As an aside - I thought initially that the SavedData file was giving the error when it reached 11.4 Meg, but then I find machines with 12 Meg files which were OK!

    "binning"? Is that like deleting or throwing out the trash?
    If so, I see no ill effect from deleting the 'saved data' file. Only if InD crashed last time it ran, you will lose the recovery of the last document(s). Deleting the other preferences or defaults will only reset InD to its factory defaults. If you have settings like special hyphenation, object or paragraph styles, preferences for workspaces or toolbars in single column or layout of pallets, you will lose those.

  • Eps into flash8 from Freehand ignores clipping path

    Hi,
    Flash8 is seeing vector lines beyond the clipping path when
    its exported as an eps from Freehand9 or MX.
    I have a map with roads etc drawn in FH9, I have placed a box
    over that part of the map I wish to export as eps and cut contents
    then paste inside box. I now see just the map within the box.
    Export as eps. (I do this all the time). Open it into photoshop, it
    sees just out as far as the box border. No problem
    However File >Import to Library in Flash 8 , then drag
    drop to stage, sees all the artwork outside of the box, stuff I
    don't want. No difference if exported as eps from MX. Trimming
    hundreds of roads etc down to the edge of the box is impractical
    for every eps I need to make, as I need to export each bus route on
    the map as a separate eps, and there are many !

    > I saved a Photoshop EPS CYMK image with a clipping path.
    It imports into Adobe
    > InDesign CS, but not into Freehand. All I get is a white
    box.
    > I just read here that Freehand will not accept EPS
    files. How else to get the
    > PS clipping path file into a FH document?
    FreeHand will import eps images but while ID can read the
    file and show it on screen FH can only use preview image i.e. low
    resolution version of the image embedded in eps file. Otherwise FH
    will show only the white box. It can be printed with PS printer or
    exported as pdf but placing is of course difficult.
    So you must save the eps with preview. But, the preview is
    not necessarily 'clipped' and all the transparend areas have opaque
    color. As memory serves FH support clipping paths in tiff files and
    clipping is visible but there may be problems in printing.
    You can also export the clipping path as Illustrator file,
    import into FreeHand and paste a non clipped tiff image into it.
    Using clipping paths is somewhat outdated now just as
    FreeHand is.
    I just finnished a book project which included removing
    background from about 150 images. I used Photoshop mask layers and
    imported images into InDesign as cmyk photoshop files. Since the
    layer mask is a grayscale image edges can be fathered and the
    result is way better than with a clipping path. In fact some of the
    images had cliping paths but I converted them all into selections
    and feathered layer masks.
    Also some of the objects had quite shallow depth of field and
    some areas were blurred. Removing background with clipping path
    would have looked awful but I just used more feathering in these
    areas the result was in fact very good.
    Ability to use layered psd files is one of the reasons why I
    quit using FreeHand and use Illustrator (and InDesign) now.

  • Why is the JPG missing its clipping path when opening in Illustrator?

    I need to be able to create jpg images images in photoshop with a clipping mask so that my clients can open the files in their own programs with a transparent (not solid white) background.   I thought I used to be able to do this.   But now when I open the jpg files in my own Illustrator program, it doesn't have the clipping path.  I can resave the jpgs as eps files, and the path comes through just fine, but many of my clients can't use eps files and the file sizes of eps files are way too big.   I've tried saving the jpg files and opening them up in CS3 and CS6 photoshop/illustrator programs.   The clipping path is still in the jpg files when I open them in photoshop;   they just seem to disappear when I open the files in Illustrator.
    Is there a way to keep the clipping path in a jpeg file when using it in Illustrator?

    JPG files cannot have a clipping path. Save as a PNG file from Photoshop for a transparent background.

  • Cs6 clipping raw files?

    With Sony A77MII RAW files I'm noticing that CS6 is only pulling in the area that corresponds to the JPEG preview thumbnail, not the full RAW image.  Is there some kind of setting I'm missing or is this an issue with ACR/CS6?  Here's a link to a question about it in DPR: PS CS6 clipping A77MII files?: Sony Alpha SLR/SLT A-mount Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review
    I also shoot Canon but haven't had a chance to check it yet.

    Tentative answer: I checked the camera and the output is set to 16:9.  DxO and Capture One apparently ignore this; the Adobe products don't.

  • Photoshop CS6 clipping paths

    How can I retain clipping paths in Photoshop CS6 when saving the file as jpg or png?

    Those file formats don't support paths - pixels only.

  • Linking Photoshop EPS Files with Clipping Paths

    I'm running InDesign CS4 6.0.3 on a dual 2GHz G5 with Mac OS X 10.5.7.
    We have a workflow that involves Photoshop EPS files being placed in InDesign with the object's clipping path set to Photoshop Path.  If the link is updated or relinked, InDesign no longer restricts the image to the boundaries of the path—either on screen or on export to PDF—even though choosing Object -> Clipping Path -> Options still shows the type set to Photoshop Path.  The only way that I have found to get the clipping path to fully apply to the image is to change the type from Photoshop Path to None and back to Photoshop Path, all while the Preview check box is on.  I tried different combinations of turning the Apply Photoshop Clipping Path option on and off at the time of initial placement and at the time of relinking with no effect on this behavior.
    Assuming that using a format other than EPS and using transparency rather than clipping paths are not in play at the moment, my questions are:
    1.  Is this a know issue with InDesign CS4?  If so, can we expect a fix soon?
    2.  Is there anything that can be done on the user side that is less cumbersome than the workaround described above?

    @Mark
    Photoshop PSD is fine for all raster work. But if you have vector masks, vector shapes or text in the file then saving as PDF would be the better option, you can choose to remove the white background when importing the PDF in the Show Options of the Place Dialog box.
    And that's null point anyway, as soon as you open a photoshop EPS file in Photoshop it rasterises everything. So what I said isn't a viable solution for this project. But to keep in mind that PSD will output as raster only and PDF can have transparency and raster + vector data.
    Just thought I'd through that out there.

  • Clip Paths and temp-files

    I guess that clip paths are needed for all the files I've
    pasted from Illustrator, but do I need all the temp-files?
    How can I clean up the clip paths, bitmaps and temp files I
    don't use in my project? Flash freezes a couple of seconds now when
    I add, remove or edit an item in the Library...

    Now I may be wrong (see my sig), but there is only one way I
    know to get only the files you use into the library. Copy all of
    the frames in the main timeline (highlight all frames - right-click
    copy frame), then create a blank document, right-click on frame one
    and paste the frames. That will only bring across items from the
    library that are used, leaving behind the garbage. Save your new
    document.

  • Bring in another .psd file with the clipping path

    Okay, this client has a very odd request. They want a collage of images put together in one file and they want the clipping paths to be attached. Then it's to be saved as an eps file. I'd like to do this in InDesign and am going to be posting this same question there as well. I like that in InDesign, the clipping path stays attached to the image when you move it. However, is there a way to do this in Photoshop? I don't know how to bring .psd files into Photoshop along with their clipping paths. If there is a way to do this, is there a way to link the clipping path to the layer so that when I move the individual layers, the clipping path moves with it?
    Help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

    In Photoshop "Clipping Path" is a special kind of Path and limited to one per image and not linked to one Layer.
    A work-around to combine multiple images with individual Clipping Paths into one psd file with a combined Clipping Path could be
    • applying the Clipping Paths as Vector Masks to the images (flattened to one Layer or converted to a Smart Object each),
    • combining them and after positioning/transforming/…
    • copy/pasting the individual Vector Masks into one new Clipping Path.

    Okay, this client has a very odd request. They want a collage of images put together in one file and they want the clipping paths to be attached. Then it's to be saved as an eps file. I'd like to do this in InDesign rather than Photoshop because the clipping path stays with the image in InDesign when you move it. However, I don't know how to save the file as an .eps file with the clipping paths attached. I open the .eps files in Photoshop and there are no clipping paths present.
    Help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

    My suggestion is to compose the entire collage in Photoshop. And if you need to preserve the clipping paths of each image of the finished collage, then convert the clipping path to a vector mask. Then you can drag a layer (that will include image and path) into one photoshop file to make collage.
    Here are the instructions from previous post to convert a path into a vector mask.
    To create a vector mask in PS, select the path in the Path Panel, then under Layer menu > Vector Mask > Current Path.

  • Detecting clipping path in EPS file

    Hi All,
    I have problem with detecting clipping path settings in EPS.
    It's easy to find all cliping paths in file, they are listed in clippingPath.photoshopPathNames
    but when EPS is saved with clipping path selected, this path is always applied and clippingPath.clippingType is ClippingPathType.none
    I can't find any property which can be usefull to detect.
    Thanks!
    Piotr

    Hallo Piotr,
    Perhaps the following approach can help.
    The script places the eps (inside the selected frame) twice in a new layer: the first time with property epsImportPreferences.epsFrames = false and then with true. Afterwards the dimensions were compared and the layer deleted.
    Please note that it will only work if the paths are smaller than the image dimensions.
    #target InDesign
    var _eps = app.selection[0].epss[0];
    var _uerEPSFrames = app.epsImportPreferences.epsFrames;
    var _tempLayer = app.activeDocument.layers.add();
    try {
      if(_eps instanceof EPS && _eps.clippingPath.photoshopPathNames.length>0) {
        if(_eps.clippingPath.clippingType == ClippingPathType.NONE) {
          var _savedClippingPath = __savedWithClippingPath(_eps,_tempLayer);
          if(_savedClippingPath[0]) {
            alert("Clipping path applied in Photoshop" + "\r\r" + "Path name: " + _savedClippingPath[1]);
          } else {
            alert("EPS without applied clipping path (Photoshop and InDesign)");
        } else if (_eps.clippingPath.clippingType == ClippingPathType.PHOTOSHOP_PATH) {
          alert("Clipping path applied in InDesign" + "\r\r" + "Path name: " + _eps.clippingPath.appliedPathName);
    } catch(e) {
      alert(e);
    app.epsImportPreferences.epsFrames = _uerEPSFrames;
    _tempLayer.remove();
    function __savedWithClippingPath(_curEPS,_tempLayer) {
      app.epsImportPreferences.epsFrames = false;
      var _tempEPS_1 = __placeFile (_curEPS,_tempLayer);
      app.epsImportPreferences.epsFrames = true;
      var _tempEPS_2 = __placeFile (_curEPS,_tempLayer);
      if(_tempEPS_1.geometricBounds[2] == _tempEPS_2.geometricBounds[2] && _tempEPS_1.geometricBounds[3] == _tempEPS_2.geometricBounds[3]) {
        return [false,""];
      } else {
        _tempEPS_1.clippingPath.clippingType = ClippingPathType.PHOTOSHOP_PATH;
        return [true,_tempEPS_1.clippingPath.appliedPathName];
    function __placeFile (_file,_layer) {
      var _filePath = _file.itemLink.filePath;
      var _fileToPlace = File(_filePath);
      return app.activeDocument.pages[0].place(_fileToPlace,[0,0],_layer,false)[0];
    A little roundabout, i know, but i think you can not obtain the value in a direct way. But maybe someone else knows a better way.

  • CS6 clipping path for layer group

    Hi
    In PS cs6 i cant find how to create clipping path for layer group (apply to folder from some shape layer with alt + drag&drop) created with pen, rectangle etc tools.
    Here is how it should look in cs6 but i don't know how to do that
    Thanx in advance

    Shape Layers’ Vector Masks don’t appear in the Layers Panel in CS6 (seems like a bad idea to me, but that’s the way it is now), so you could still select the Shape Layer with a Path Tool, select the Paths, copy, select the Group, paste, Layer > Vector Mask > Current Path or command-click the Layer Mask icon in the Layers Panel.
