Missing Codec for Avid QT Movie

I have some QT movies that were exported from Avid (on Mac OSX) about three years ago. The files played fine on my G5 after adding the Avid Meridien codecs to my Library. Now I have upgraded to an Intel MBP and I can't get video (only audio) from these movies even after downloading and installing the Avid Codec package for Intel Macs. I can't even get the video to play in VLC - says its missing the AvidAVDJCodec.component - even though that is one of the codecs currently in the Library!
Please help. Most of these movies are part of my portfolio and I need to access them. Thanks.

The Apple Intermediate Codec is just that. An "intermediate" step in the movie making process from the camera "source" format to a format that is editable. Most common is MPEG-2 (camera source).
Once in the intermediate format nearly any machine can do the editing (even if they can't play the file without dropping frames) in QuickTime Player.
Your older machine and its older graphics card are probably the cause when working with the 24fps rate.
You would probably get a better, more thorough, answer by posting in the Final Cut or Express Discussions pages.

  • Missing codec FCP exported Qtime .mov

I'm having a problem viewing some .mov files due to a missing codec.  A contractor delivered me video content from a recent event on an external hard drive. The files he sent me are .mov files that he exported from Final Cut Pro using a DVCPRO HD (720p60), linear PCM, Timecode codec.  I want to be able to view these files through Quicktime on my machine, but I don't use FCP.
I tried installing the Apple prores decoder, as another thread here seemed to indicate this might solve my issue, but when I ran the installer, it said a newer version fo the decoder was already installed on my machine. Is there any straightforward way to download/install the codec I need to view these files without shelling out for FCP?

    No.

  • Missing codecs for Blackmagic HD Extreme?

I just installed a new BM HD Extreme card. I installed the latest driver (6.3)
I am running QT 7.2 and FCP 6.0.1
When I launch FCP it prompts me to select a Sequence Preset.
The drop down window contains many Blackmagic options- but many others are missing. For example: I only have 3 choices of 1080i 59.94 (10bit, 10bit RGB, and 8bit). There are only 2 DVCproHD options. And there is no NTSC DV option, etc.
If I choose CANCEL I do not get a Timeline or Canvas window and they are grayed out the Window drop down menu. If I choose a preset- even one I do not want I get a complete layout.
Once inside FCP- I try Audio/Video Settings Menu.
All options including 1080i 59.94 ProRes, 1080i 59.94 DVCpro, NTSC DV, etc.
are available as Capture presets- but they are not listed under Sequence Preset menu.
If I select Easy Set-up- ALL BM presets are listed.
but when I try to edit to timeline I get a prompt telling to switch settings.
Many of these same setting options are missing from the VIEW Video Playback menu as well.
It's all very confusing. What is going on here?
    I suppose my question is:
How do I get All Blackmagic presets to appear as options in all settings- including sequence preset and Video playback?

time to call black magic support. I suspect (have not had time to check) the codecs are not in the proper location like in library>application support>final cut pro>??
look for the setups you see and where they are. I think there are separate locations for easy setup and for sequence presets. I have the same thing in the B room with an older blackmagic card

  • Missing codec for finder's preview pane?

I used to be able to see preview of my movies on finder's preview pane. Since i upgraded to Leopard, the preview pane has stopped working. I cannot see the previews anymore, it's just a blank white area. Am i missing a codec as such?

    from Apple doc:
    Previewing images
When you open a window for a folder that contains images, you may notice that the icons for the image files are thumbnail previews of the images themselves.
If this feature is not working, you can use View Options to turn it on.
To turn on previewing of images:
    Step 1
In the Dock, click the Finder icon to open a Finder window.
The Finder icon is always the first one in the Dock. Make sure the Finder window you’re viewing contains images.
    Step 2
Choose View > Show View Options to see the options for the window.
    Step 3
Click one of the View buttons to choose icon, list, or column view.
If you’re using Cover Flow view, you’re already previewing images and don’t need to change any settings.
    Step 4
Use the view options box to turn on previewing.
In icon view: Select “Show icon preview,” and use the Icon size slider to adjust the size of the preview image.
In list view: Select “Show icon preview,” and click one of the two “Icon size” buttons.
In column view: To use thumbnails as icons for images, select “Show icon preview.” To see a larger preview, select “Show preview column,” and then select an image file in the Finder window.
Note: The Finder may not be able to show a preview for some image files.

  • PREMIERE ELE9 MISSING CODEC FOR JPG FILE

Basically, I want to import still photos into the timeline but when I import it into the project adobe says the file is not supported or the codec is missing. This is weird because I have done this before with no problem. What do I do? Please help. Thanks

There is no CODEC required for JPEG, but they must adhere to certain criteria.
    They must be RGB.
    They cannot be Progressive.
They cannot contain certain Metadata, as John mentions.
If the Color Mode is NOT REG - Open in PS, change the Color Mode to RGB and Save with Baseline Optimized, or better yet, as a PSD.
If the JPEG's came from the Web, they could well be Progressive - Open in PS and Save with Baseline Optimized, or better yet, as a PSD.
    Good luck,

  • Installed Adobe CC Trial - Missing Codecs For Premiere

    Hi ALL,
New here, Just installed a trial of Adobe CC But I found that Encoder is missing Pro Res and mpeg 2.
Also Premiere Pro only has DNXHD And DV presets. In the subfolder [ROOT] presets all the settings are there but don't appear in the sequence settings. Also my capture only has DV not HDV.
I am on a Mac. I have uninstalled and Reinstalled still the same problem?
    Any help ?
    Thanks

ProRes and Mpeg2 are propriety codecs that you have to buy. If you were on FCP before you would have had these as part of the Quicktime Pro licence that came with FCP.
ProRes is an Apple codec that you can get by buying Motion (this is about the cheapest option). Mpeg2 I'm not positive about - I think this might actually have come with Media Encoder, but don't quote me on that.
You don't really need ProRes unless you specifically have to deliver in ProRes - premiere will cut just about anything natively without the need for any transcoding. DNXHD is an open source alternative to ProRes and is just as good. If you specifically need ProRes, then your first job should easily cover the cost of buying it.
As for the DV/HDV capture - do you have a HDV deck or camera attached?

  • Missing Codec for Premiere Elements 12

Hi, I just bought Elements 12.  I installed it into my computer fine.  However when I tried to upload my video from an external hard drive it would not take it.  It said that a "codec" was missing.  My computer is new and the software is new.  Does anyone have any ideas?   It does not tell me  which codec is missing other than something is missing.  The video was transferred from a mini-dv onto the hard drive.
The whole reason why I bought Elements was to do some editing on this project.  If I can't do it, then this software is useless to me.
    Thanks,
    Deeadrian

    deeadrian,
However, am I to understand that in order to do any capturing that I will need firewire?  When I read the booklet and information, I did not see any reference to firewire.  Or are you  referring to this particular instance?  If not and firewire is needed, then why are like 90+ percent of the computers being on the market do not have firewire anymore?
A tape workflow is going by the wayside. It is a "legacy," and is being replaced rapidly with a tapeless workflow, often AVCHD. MiniDV tape, however good it is, is being phased out, and computer mfgrs. are turning their backs on it - including the FW connections.
When I was in the process of ordering my "super" laptop replacement, I had to wait 4 mos., until Clevo (a major laptop MoBo mfgr.) put the IEEE-1394a chip BACK onto their top-end MoBo. I waited, as I still do a lot of miniDV tape Capture, and needed that connection. I knew what I needed, and was prepared to both wait for it, and then pay for it.
Whenever someone is dealing with legacy technology, they have to make allowances for that. I still have two old computers set up, as they offer me connections, that I still need, decades later, like SCSI for my Nikon scanner, and some older technology. That is the price of technological advancement - one has to accommodate the old stuff.
I have kept my old Photoshop CS2, because I have a ton of Kodak PhotoCD's, and there is no ability to read those files in the newest versions of Photoshop. Support for that format was dropped some years ago - but I can still access those discs, just on my older computers.
    Good luck,

  • Missing codec for JPEG or PSD?

    Hi!
I just used the Encore CS5 (Master Collection) for the first time after installing.  I was working with 2.0 before.
I normally use it to author DVDs, especvially photo slideshows with a song in the background. So no big deal. That worked just fine with AE2. Its a PAL DVD, with Stereo Sound, one Menu. System Win 7 x64.
Now I've a set of 150 JPEGS (or PSDs as well) that should be imported in Encore as a screen presentation. Import / as screen presentation imports about 70 pics and for the rest I have the screen messsage "The software to decrypt the media in this system is not available. Try to fix the problem by installing the correct decoders for the files."
What codec do I need to decrypt JPEGS / PSDs nowadays? That're just normal jpeg pics? And If so, what codec do I need than?
    Can anyone help with this?
    Best regrads,
    MI

If some work and some don't, the USUAL cause is bad or missing header information in the file that confuses Encore
Open and resave in Photoshop and see if that fixes the problem

  • Missing codecs for media player 12

I have Windows 7 loaded on my computer and the Media player 12 will not open .asf files.  I have tried all kinds of patches and fixes but mothing seems to work.  I have just purchased another computer for a different location and that windows 7 media player 12 works perfectly.

I normally install VLC player that is capable of playing all the file formats. You can download it from the following weblink:
    http://www.videolan.org
Then all the codecs will get installed and Media Player starts playing most of the file formats.
    I am an HP employee.

  • Intermediate codec for Premiere on MAC

What if you want to edit different sources and still have realtime playback and no loss of quality... On PC you use Cineform but on Mac ? Pro-Res works realtime only on Final Cut.. So what do you suggest for workin in Premiere on a Mac (possibly free) and keep realtime playback and all the quality? We are talking of HD footage (XDCAM)  and HDv footage. XDCAM plays realtime (though only in MP4 wrapper and not MOV wrapper) while HDV doesn't. I could obviously convert HDV to MP4 XDCAM or both to P2 (this also is read realtime).. but XDCAM will not keep all the quality. Can somebody suggest something?

This is a few weeks old so I hope you've found a good answer, but for the benefit of others you have a couple options. First you can actually get a copy of the Cineform codec for Mac buy purchasing a copy of Neoscene for $99 (from Cineform). This would be my recommendation. You other option is to download Blackmagic's codecs for Avid's DNxHD codec packs (both are free on their websites). You can use MPEG Streamclip to transcode your files after you capture, or if you're tapeless, after you copy your files over. But a couple QT updates ago, I lost any DNxHD 36 playback...don't know why, don't care to test it.
Your system's more than fine to editt HDV natively (not sure who'd want to though)...my suspicion is that unlike FCP, Adobe uses their Media Player instead of Quicktime as the native video player for the NLE and since Mac's core is Quicktime that results in some sort of performance issue. I'm only speculation but stuff plays back fine in QT outside of Adobe.
I've never gotten anything thing one way or the other from Adobe about it (no surprise there). I get the same crap performance on my dual-core MacBook Pro as I do on my new 3+Ghz Octomac. And I won't even get started on how completely worthless HDV is. I haven't edited an HDV file for over two years, I just got too many damn MPEG stream errors and didn't want to deal with it.
I'm hoping a future update will allow me to use QT as the native media player instead of Adobe. So in the end, I convert all my source video (no matter where it came from or in what format) to Cineform and leave my headaches at the door.

The songs you purchased are in AAC format, which Windows Movie Maker cannot handle.  You can use iTunes to make MP3 versions by following this guide:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1550 and the MP3s will work fine.
Note that when iTunes does a conversion it creates a new file and leaves the original in place.  Make sure you are grabbing the new MP3 for your movie and not the original AAC.
Sorry to hear about your grandpa.

Premiere Elements 13 on Windows 8.1 (assumed 64 bit).
    First..
    1. Have you updated from 13 to the 13.1 Update using an opened project's Help Menu/Update. If not, please do so.
    2. Do the problems exist if you disable the antivirus and firewall(s)?
    3. Are you running the program as Administrator? Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer?
    4. Have you refreshed the Online Services using Premiere Elements Editor Edit Menu/Preferences/Web Sharing?
    5. Have you updated the Adobe Application Manager?
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4773
6.Is your video card/graphics card driver version up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of the card?
    7. Lots more we could go through such as deleting the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file and, if necessary, the whole
13.0 Folder in which it exists.
But, I think that you have enough things going on here to warrant an uninstall, free ccleaner run through (regular cleaner and registry cleaner parts) and then reinstall with the antivirus and firewall(s) disabled.

If the problems persist after all that then we will adjust to additional troubleshooting maneuvers.

  • FCP WON4T OPEN THE TIMELINE. QT  PROBLEM , MISSING CODECS

    thx for the reply,
i tried to downgrade QT version because of my MC soft that supports only 7.3. just got FCP 6 that, came with QT 7.5.5.
i trashed many QT files, hoping to prevent any conflicts with 7.3 (like in the old days)
now i can't even open a seq in FCP. project opens fine but with no timeline and only the viewer window.
when i click on a seq i get this message. "can't find the codec. "you may use a compression mode without the good card" (i'm translating from french).
    any idea?
that'll teach me to go back and forth bet avid and fcp. gotta pick one.
    thx again

hi there and thx for the help.
here's what a pop window said when i went to seg/settings "missing the 1:1 10 bit compressor", then the seq setting window appeared and i changed the codec to mpeg-4. the TL and canvas reappeared. i do have to render the video tracks.
here's what the QT movie footage infos says: "uncompressed 10bit 4.2.2 integer (Big Endian) Timecode. in the timeline when i check the properties it doesn't say anything other than it's ntsc ccir 601 26,9 mo/s nothing next to compressor unlike other shots.
thx a lot, at least i got my tl back.
how should i set my seq settings when i have different sources so i don't have to render all the time?
do i have to reinstall fcp6 to get these missing codec back or reinstall the os . can i just do an ARCHIVE AND INSTALL?
    thx
