Missing data in Acrobat Pro XI PDF created from Microsoft Word (2010) doc

When I create an "Adobe PDF" from a Microsoft 2010 Word doc that contains mainly images and text boxes, about 50% of the text boxes do not appear in the PDF.  Also, some of the images (layered on top of each other) appear in a different order - the one on the bottom moves to the top.
How can I address this problem so that the PDF accurately reflects the Word document?
(I am using Acrobat Pro XI and Microsoft Office 2010)

Finally figured it out -- if I view the form directly in Adobe Reader (over our network), I see the confusing message about "Click 'Sign' to fill out..."
BUT, if I open the form within a web browser (IE, Firefox, etc.), I see the usual message: "Please fill out the following form. You cannot save data typed into this form. Please print..."
It is doing what I expected; I just wasn't viewing it in the usual manner.  Users will be seeing this form via a web browser, so problem solved.

  • Creating TOC Bookmarks in a PDF created from Microsoft Word

Does anyone know how to modify PDF creation settings so that bookmarks are automatically set from the Table of Contents in the PDF version of a Microsoft Word document? This is possible in Windows using word and Acrobat Pro. But it's not automatic in the OSX-resident PDF creator and I can't find any way to modify preferences. I'm using Word 2004 (11.3.5) for Mac. Thanks!
    iMac 21" Intel   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

I am using Acrobat XI Pro on PC.
Of course, I have done all the steps you mention,  but I wanted someone to confirm me if these setting values are correct in order to obtain the best results. I repeat the paragraph of my previous discussion that I want to clarify, just in case some of you can help me, mainly about optimization
I digitalized the document from the scanner. This scanner is installed in the net, so I personalized the settings in Acrobat and I chose memory mode instead of native mode.
    Mode color: black on white
    Resolution: 600 ppp
As you say in your mail, I understand I should choose ClearScan OCR not searchable just at this moment.
Well, and what about the options of optimization?, JBIG2 (without lost)?, 4 CCITT?
And filters?, I have: activated, low, activated, medium
Are these values congruous or compatible?
    Thank you

  • Acrobat 8 Standard crashes when opening PDFs created from  Microsoft Project 2007

Issue: Acrobat 8 Standard crashes when opening PDFs created from Microsoft Project 2007.
    OS: Win XP Pro SP3
    Error Message(s): None
Details: This issue happens with multiple Microsoft Project files (including new files), multiple PDF creators (included Acrobat 8 Standard) and on multiple computers. We also tried opening the PDFs in Adobe Reader 8 instead of Acrobat Standard 8. There is no record in the event log on the computers of the application crashes.

I may have a resolution now...
I clicked Tools -> Options -> View and turned off Bars and shapes in Gantt views in 3-D" on the advice of someone on a Microsoft Forum. I made three PDFs from three Microsoft Project files (that were having trouble previously) and was not able to get these PDFs to crash when zooming or changing pages. So far so good!

  • Annotations made in Preview to PDFs created from MS Word corrupts PDF

In Preview, when I save annotations to PDFs created from an MS Word document, the PDF seems to be corrupted. Searching in the PDF no longer shows any results, and text copied from the PDF is displayed as a series of meaningless characters when pasted into a note annotation, or pasted into another file (e.g. a TextEdit file). So for example, "the monitoring of progress" becomes ")@%8,1),&12%,=%4&,2&//" when copied and pasted.
Is there any way to prevent PDFs from being corrupted in this way, or to restore the PDF so that searching and copying work correctly?

I suspect this is a problem with M$ failing to handle PDF files correctly. I would suggest you ask your question over on the M$ forums instead of here.

  • Live links in PDFs generated from Microsoft Word 2008?

A couple of years ago, I was informed that my live links (bookmarks, indexmarks, etc.) in documents generated by Microsoft Word 2004 for the Macintosh did not become PDF live links in Acrobat Standard 7 because the Mac version from Microsoft Word 2004 didn't use the necessary hooks (
    i "APIs"
or something like that) even though the Windows version did.
Now that MS Word/MS Office 2008 for the Mac is coming out, will we be able to generate PDFs with such live links.
Any input will be most appreciated.
Acrobat Standard 7.0.9. Tiger 10.4.11. Dual bootable, DP MDD 1.25GHz G4 (2004), maxed out at 2GB of RAM, both Spotlight and Dashboard disabled, Photoshop primary scratch disk on dedicated 160GB internal drive, at least 100GB available on each of the four internal drives, up to 300GB on some. Counting external FW drives just over 1TB of drive space available. nVidia GeForce 7800 GS 425MHz 256 MB graphics display card. Processor napping enabled through CHUD 3.5.2.

While this does not answer the problem of live links. (You can create them Manually, they just are not generated direct from Office Mac).
The answer to the other question of the little annoying PDFMaker Menu (that never really worked correctly for me (took 5 minutes just to generate a 108K PDF).
Because MicroSoft took out VBA Support on Mac side That rendered the PDFMaker menu useless because it uses VBA to work.
So what they have done in Word 2008 is actually put it as Translator choice on the save menu. They now directly can save Word Files directly as PDF files. once you have created your file and saved it. Then go again to *Save As....* , when menu open scroll mouse down until you run across the choice PDF. select that and save. not only is it easier a 108K document can be saved in about 15 seconds or less not the old 5 minutes going through PDFMaker.
One of PDFMaker's failings was that each step of conversion it called up Distiller which first created a .PS file. Then it checked the file. Then created the PDF file. Then checked the file again before actually writing the PDF File. Then only after checking the written PDF, would it delete the invisible PS file. Finally the PDF file was created. Naturally with all the check steps if you have a very large file could take ages.
With word's new feature (2008) you can generate a PDF at blinding speeds.

  • "Creating Adobe PDF" slow (from Microsoft Word to Acrobat X)

Since I installed Adobe Acrobat X, whenever I print to PDF, it takes me a really long time to create a PDF.  I have a simple 8 page Microsoft Word doc and several minutes later, it is still creating the PDF.  Any clues? Fixes?

I had adobe updater running in the background.  When I turned that off, printing occurred instantly.

  • Dashed Table borders do not render correctly when PDF created from MS word 2013

I have a defined format for many documents which have all been created in MS word 2007.  Never any problem creating PDFs of  these using ADOBE XI Pro.
Updated to MS 2013 and now when converting the same doc to PDF all dashed borders around tables render as solid lines. The only time they render correctly is if I PRINT to PDF.  Printing to PDF is not an option as I create batches of many documents at one time, so would be to time consuming.  This was an issue when i considered upgrading 2007 to 2010 a couple of years ago, so caused me to delay upgrade.. upgrade is now required.
I have a sample of a document if required.
    thanks

Just as a test, have you tried the MS plugin for PDF creation? I have found with other versions of WORD and Acrobat that PDF Maker and the MS plugin can both fill in dots and dashes on vector graphics (basically what the border is) and yet it comes out correctly with printing to the Adobe PDF printer. Unfortunately I do not have a solution. In my case, it seemed to be related to the vector graphic itself (I could import it to InkScape or other vector graphic tool and save to EMF and it then worked fine. It may be something that MS themselves have messed up in OFFICE 2013. Good luck.

  • Exporting PDF's from Microsoft Word

I'm having trouble creating PDF's from Word (PC). If I click file and selct PDF as my printer, the image comes out with several things missing. If I click the Adobe Icon and try to print it locks up and says there is a problem with Adobe. Not sure if it just needs updated or what's wrong with it.

Be sure AA8 is updated to the latest version. The fact that you have it working on Win7-64 bit is only the second time I have heard of any success with AA8 and this system. That may be the issue that the compatibility is just not there. You might try printing to file with another PS print driver (this step would be a better check) and open the file in Distiller to check for proper operation. If that works, then try the Adobe PDF printer with a print to file also. Do you get different results in any of these tests?
Adobe will only give you one answer for your problem and that is AA8 is not certified for Win7-64 bit and you should upgrade to AAXI. This latter may be a good idea anyway, depending on your funds.

  • Can Acrobat X Standard create PDF files from Microsoft Word, using "CMYK" color (required by most book printers) instead of "RGB" color?

I'd like to purchase Acrobat Standard if it will let me control the color space used in the PDF it creates.  I need to send a color file to a commercial book printer, and they require the PDF file to use CMYK colors, not RGB.
Will Acrobat Standard do this, and if so, how?  Or do I need to get a different Adobe product for this task?

  • Difficulty cross-referencing PDF created from MS Word Mail Merge

    Hello!
I'm using MS Word Mail Merge to create PDF documents with Adobe Acrobat 9 (Merge to Adobe PDF ribbon). Adobe allows me to specify the file name to use, which Adobe uses for the first portion of the file name, but the remaining is up to Adobe and varies depending on the total number of documents.
The help shows as: "The PDF will be named using this text plus a series of numbers. For example, if you type JulyLetter in the Specify PDF File Name box, the mail-merged PDFs might appear as JulyLetter_0000123, JulyLetter_0000124, July Letter_0000125, and so forth."
If the numbering was sequential, there wouldn't be a problem. However, if the number of records exceeds 50 documents, the convention changes at intervals of 50 and it makes it difficult to cross-reference without opening the document.
As an example, if there are a total of 67 documents, you get the following results:
Record 15 is named JulyLetter_15015.pdf. (meaning range 1-50, record 15)
Record 20 is named JulyLetter_15020.pdf (meaning range 1-50, record 20)
Record 56 is named JulyLetter_51676.pdf (meaning range 51-67, record 6)
Record 66 is named JulyLetter_516716.pdf (meaning range 51-67, record 16)
The breaks are at intervals of 50 records, meaning that if there were 230 records to print, record 143 would be JulyLetter_10115043.pdf, record 180 would be JulyLetter_15120030.pdf.
Does anyone know where the naming or breaks are controlled within Adobe to just keep it sequential or if there is possibly a cross reference file created that may assist with cataloging?
    Thanks

In each of the successive versions of Acrobat to the version you have, improvements have been made in converting a PDF to Word format. Acrobat X and the version about to come out, Acrobat XI, do the best job. I can't guarantee that the results would be an improvement in your case, but I have a hunch they would.

  • Mail Merge from Microsoft Word 2010 to "Individual" PDF documents.

    Hi Adobe brothers and sisters,
I need help with this one.
I'm Mail Merging over 300 letters and each letter has seven pages. What I'm currently doing is mail merging from Excel to Word then printing it into a single PDF document. Once printed, I select each seven pages and then reprinting in PDF with the name its intended for? This is very time consuming and hoping there is an easier way.
Is there a way to save each individual PDF documents (each letter) and have them labeled by a specific name listed on the letter intended for (eg: surname) without going through this lengthy process.
    Regards,

I've developed a tool that will allow you to extract each group of 7 pages
into a single file with just a few clicks. See:
    http://try67.blogspot.com/2012/01/acrobat-extract-groups-of-pages.html
However, the file names of the generated files will be generic. If you want
to use some text from the pages themselves in the file names, that might be
possible, but would require a more complex script. Contact me personally to
    discuss it further.

  • Default file destination in Microsoft Word 2010 Mail Merge to PDF

I'm using windows 2010, and Adobe Acrobat X Standard.
I have a mail merge template that I created in Microsoft Word 2010 that I use to send out multiple price quotes to customers who are bidding jobs.  When I merge to Adobe PDF everything works properly (everyone receives their unique PDF, etc.), but every time I do this Adobe requires that I select a destination folder for it to send the PDF's it generates that get attatched to the emails.
When I save a Word Doc as a PDF it automatically saves it in the same folder at the word document it was created from.  Is there a way I can set up my 'Merge to Adobe PDF' feature to do the same thing when it generates the merged PDF files?  It's just a hastle to map the entire file path of the desination folder every time I send out a quote.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Deleted a free version of  PDF Max after purchasing the pro version. That resulted in missing data on the pro version too. Please help

Last week, I purchased the pro version of PDF Max and today deleted the free version since I am not using it anymore.
I don't what happened or how, this also resulted in missing data on the pro version. I created loads of annotations and notes using the pro version. Now, all that's missing. I am using the word "missing" because I think the data (notes and annotations) is still there but its just not showing up in the app. Since, the size of the app did not change. It still is 1.24gb on iTunes. Can you guys please help me recover or should I say figure out a way to display the files on the app? Pretty please!

I'm not familiar with the specific app, but generally speaking if the free and paid versions of an app are separate (i.e. not an in app purchase), what you are seeing will be the case. the only resolution I know of is if the vendor provides an account and stores the data online, or it integrates with something like DropBox. If not, once the old version is deleted, the data is pretty much gone.

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro XI problems printing PDFs created from AutoCAD.

Just installed Adobe Acrobat Pro XI and am having problems printing PDFs created from AutoCAD.  Printing other PDF created by MS Word works well.  Had a similar problem in an earlier version of Pro.  The fix I figure out then was to print the PDF file as another PDF.  Using the second PDF to print to a plotter typically worked.  It does not work for Adoabe Acrobat Pro XI.

  • Adobe 6.0 Pro--PDFs created from multiple PDFs don't have bookmarks from structure?

I'm working with my company's 6.0 Pro (old, I know, but what we've got is what we've got,) on a Windows 7 machine. I've read online that in 6.0, PDFs created from multiple PDFs, by defaut, should have bookmarks from structure that use the original filenames as the bookmark names. I was surprised to read this, because ironically enough this is precisely what I began looking online to see if I could do, and all I could seem to find then were ways to get rid of that function. I don't believe that our installation has been modified in any way, but the binders I'm creating don't automatically have bookmarks from their structure, nor do the bookmarks I'm creating from the structure by menu command have the original file names as their names. Such an automatic bookmark structure w/ that naming scheme would in fact be very helpful in our workflow, as we deal with large volumes of files where outside data paired with file names needs to be one-to-one matched against the actual pdf contents, and opening files individually is time consuming. As of now, when I go to create bookmarks from structure in my document made of multiple pdfs, I have two choices: "Document", which only creates a bookmark to the first page of the whole thing, and "Part," which creates bookmarks to the first pages of all the documents that were combined, with each bookmark named "Part."
We would be satisfied with nameless bookmarks except that the combine feaure is also unreliable. It usually switches the first and last files of the alphabetical order, but not always, meaning that we can't rely on bookmark order to know which file we are looking at once the binder is created.
What I'm hoping to discover is if this behavior for 6.0 Pro is really abnormal and if so, what fixes or workarounds might be available. Thanks.

    Just to clarify --
"... should have bookmarks from structure ..."
    Not true.
If a PDF is tagged then Acrobat Pro can create new Bookmarks from the PDF's structure (from the Bookmark panel's Options menu).
Currently there is no other mechanism for this.
This may change after PDF-2 (ISO 32000-2) is released but that is still out on the timeline.
    Just some things to consider.
When combining multiple PDFs into a new, single PDF click on the Options button and tick "Always add bookmarks..."
This should give you the filename. If a PDF has an entry in its "Title" this will be a bookmark nested under the top (filename) bookmark.
Also, when combining PDFs if there is no entry in "Tiltle" expect to see the filename as a bookmark.
It there is an entry for "Title" expect to see the "Title" entry as the bookmark.
What you describe for the elements/tags "Document" and "Part" are consistent with what they are and how they are permitted to be used in a tagged PDF.
    (See ISO 32000-1, Section 14.8)
    Be well...
