Missing default filter presets in Library View [Lightroom 3.6]

Hi there,
It's my first topic on this forum.
Yesterday I have installed Windows 8. At beggining everything was fine with lightroom. I have left computer turned on whole night to let lightroom generate previews to my whole collection.
In the morning I have noticed that filters are missing in Library View:
When I create a new filter from File -> Library Filters -> Filter By I have got filter enabled but in this view from screenshot there is no option "No filter".
What should I click to recover all filters?
Thanks in advance for your replies.
EDIT:
Topic solved.
It occured that missing presets are not build in by default in Lightroom 3 and I got them since Lightroom 1.1. Copying catalog "Lightroom Settings" from another computer solved issue:

Geoff the Kiwi
Fortunately I had backed up the catalogue earlier in the day and I have the
option set to optimize it after it gets backed up, also the option is set to
check the integrity prior to back up. I'll back it up again since I've made no
changes since recovery from the hang up.
Any suggestions on steps to take the next time this happens to help in
diagnosing the problem as I have lots of metadata work to do?

  • Default Sort Order for Library View

    It would be fantastic if there were a user defined preference for a default sort order in Library view. For example, some users may prefer to always view the images by File Name, or Rating, etc, without having to change the sort order for each individual folder they view via Lightroom.
    Thanks!

    Thanks for your suggestion Allan, but it doesn't work.
    I'm specifically referring to the defaults that Aperture 3 adopts when you use the "File, Import, Folders as Projects with the projects and albums setting.
    What I'm finding is regardless of the setting in the Library preferences, the default sort order for the project is Date and Manual for the album.
    Yet if I create a project manually the default sort order is as per the Library prefs. Strange.

  • Missing episodes and image in Library view

    The show is https://itunes.apple.com/ph/podcast/budget-minded-traveler-travel/id847606288?mt =2
    There are now 10 episodes and it's still showing only 7 episodes in iTunes. We use Blubrry Powerpress and have already set the feed number to show 10 so that shouldn't be the issue. Another odd thing is, when you subscribe, view the feed in the Library and it shows only 9, which is missing episode 8 as well as the image. Any idea what might be causing this? The original feed is: http://thebudgetmindedtraveler.com/feed/podcast/
    Thank you for help.

    Hi Roger,
    Thank you for the reply. I see what you mean that it appears when you play. But what i'm actually referring to is shown below. As always, I appreciate your help.

  • In the library view, lightroom starts changing color photos to b & W with a sepia tone

    I have a mac mac and lightroom 6.  The changes occur one picture at a time without my doing anything.  How to stope this?  Is there any way to reverse the changes made to a group of files?

    Sounds like you have a preset being assigned to the group either manually or during the import process.
    Check the history panel in the Develop module to see if a preset got assigned.
    If yes, you need to verify how it got assigned and yes it can be undone.

  • View Filter Presets - Yes, they can be iterated, and set, but...

    Anybody know how to create a view filter?
    For example, my first use case would be to filter on PV2003 - anybody know how to do that?
    (Back in the good ol' days I would just run a plugin to set custom metadata, then filter on the custom metadata (like Jeffrey Friedl's Focal Length Sort did), but isn't there a better way in SDK3.0? - Even if undocumented, for example, create a view-filter preset file that accesses unexposed fields... - Lightroom would probably have to be restarted to use it though, hmmm..
    Any help?
    Thanks,
    Rob

    John,
    I do have a few more cores but I think the big difference is LR3 vs LR2.  I am still in 2.5 awaiting some performance fixes before switching to v3.  I continue to test LR3 on both my desktop (8 cores) and laptop (2 cores).  Here is what I am finding:
    In version 2.5, it takes approximately 4 times longer to fill the shadow field if all are empty than simply checking.  So my rate of 2-3,000 per second is primarily checking - but that is what it will be doing most of the time once the initial fill is complete.  I see very little difference between my laptop and the desktop for this test.
    Running v 3.0 it much, much longer to fill the fields than in v 2.5 - maybe a slow as 25/second.  Again, I see very little difference between the laptop and the desktop.  The worst part is that in 3.0 the incremental fill takes just as long as the initial fill - this might be related to the issue whereby issuing a Ctrl-S is not longer incremental but updates all images (hopefully an error on Adobe's part that will be corrected soon).
    Conclusion, I think what you are seeing is primarily a difference between v2 and v3 of Lightroom; however, you seem to be getting much of that performance back by using the batch commands which, as a side note, I have not yet implemented since those commands just came out with v3.  I just loop through the catalog and read metadata one image at a time.  The relevant code (not pretty so don't laugh) is basically:
    --###################### task code  ###########################################
    LrTasks.startAsyncTask( function()
    -- get a reference to all the photos in the entire catalog
    local cat_photos = nil
    catalog:withReadAccessDo( function()
         cat_photos = catalog.allPhotos
    end )
    -- determine number of photos to be processed
    local ncat_photos = #cat_photos
    -- confirm the action since it can be massive on large number of photos
    local message = "Are you sure you want to create the duplicate field for the folder name and set the Metadata errors field of the " .. ncat_photos .. " selected images?"
    local returnbutton = di.confirm( message,nil,"Yes")
    if returnbutton == "cancel" then
         progressScope:done()
         return
    end
    -- get access to the current catalog
    catalog:withWriteAccessDo("Construct Captions", function()
    --di.message("Jeff Dialog",tostring(#cat_photos),"info")
    local cap_string = "Checking/Updating " .. tostring(ncat_photos) .. " images "
    progressScope:setCaption(cap_string)
    -- loop through each of the photos selected
    local indexnum = 0
    for i, photo in ipairs(cat_photos) do
    indexnum = indexnum + 1
    local fold = trim(photo:getFormattedMetadata('folderName'))
    local kws       = photo:getFormattedMetadata('keywordTags')  -- retrieves keywordes ENTERED
    local sfold     = photo:getPropertyForPlugin(_PLUGIN, 'shadowFolder' )
    -- remove blanks that don't work for filter bar purposes
    local shadfold  = string.gsub(fold, " ", "")
    shadfold  = string.gsub(shadfold, "_", "")
    local firstchar = string.find(shadfold,"%a") -- finds first alpha character
    if firstchar == nil then firstchar = #shadfold+1 end
    shadfold = string.sub(shadfold,1,firstchar-1) .. "|" .. string.sub(shadfold,firstchar,#shadfold)
    -- if in year/mo format, then insert dash between year and month
    if firstchar == 7 then
         shadfold = string.sub(shadfold,1,4) .. "-" .. string.sub(shadfold,5,#shadfold)
    end
    -- COPY folder without blanks or _ to duplicate field
    if shadfold ~= sfold then
         photo:setPropertyForPlugin(_PLUGIN, 'shadowFolder', shadfold )
    end
    end      -- of looping through selected photos
    end )    -- of catalog:withWriteAccessDo
    end)     -- of task
    --###################### end of task code  ###########################################
    Here's to hoping 3.1 brings our performance back!

  • Using images in library view when file is missing

    I have some images in the library but the file is missing. Can I somehow use the image displayed in the library view and export to disk for printing or e-mail? I’m using v4 on a Mac. Thanks.
    Following on from the above I have downloaded the Extract previws help guide. http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/extract-previews-lightroom-4.htmlThis runs a script to enable extracts to be made. After a bit of messing about with the process for choosing where to house the extracted files this works perfectly. It has certainly saved me a lot of pain and heartache.

    Check whether the machine at school has correctly been updated to A§ 8.0.2. Several not so minor bugs were fixed with the updates. also check your files on Illustrator (Mac) and if necessary, re-save them from there.

  • Library filter presets not working correctly across catalogs

    I am having a trouble with Library Filter Presets that are shared between catalogs.  I like to set up presets that filter on specific keywords.  For example, I have a preset called "Label - Project 365" which turns on the keyword metadata filter and searches for "Project 365".
    All is fine and dandy from within the catalog in which I actually created the preset.  When I switch to the other catalog, though, the preset does not filter for the keyword "Project 365".  In fact, it turns on the keyword metadata filter but does not appear to select any of the keywords at all.  If I click on the proper keyword in the metadata filter (in this case, "Project 365") and update the preset, then it works fine on this "second" catalog... but as a result it will no longer work correctly in the original catalog.
    Has anyone else come across this behavior?  Any pointers on how I might correct it?  Thank you for your time.

    A bit more information if it helps.  When I look in the filter preset file itself, this is what I see.  I really don't know how to interpret everything here.  There is an entryt for "columnBrowserDesc" that contains an integer for "selections".  Perhaps this is how it is identifything the keyword of interest?  If that's the case, perhaps it may be the culprit.  (And if so, I've simply run into a limitation that I can't do much about.)

  • How to deselect iPhoto as the default library viewer?

    Hello everybody. I just got a Mac and I am thoroughly thrilled by iPhoto but I am already regretting setting the app as the default library viewer. I know I can find photos in the Finder by making iPhoto point me to the original file, but I just want to be able to see all my photos through finder. Under the folder names I choose. This issue is alarming also because I want to import 2000 photos from my old PC and I want them to be kept in the folders I have aready arranged. Again, I know I can view the originals (even though it's kinda weird the way they are organized in Finder now that iPhoto is the default library) and I know I can use  any image I want with other applications just by dragging them. But I just wanna see the file system. Any help will be deeply appreciated. Thanks for reading in advance

    When you import a folder of  photos into iPhoto an Event will be created containing those photos with the same name as the folder had.  So you can keep all of your photos in the same folder grouping as you had previously.  You just can't have events inside other events as you do with folders.
    However, you can add folders to the left hand pane of iPhoto and drag events into them to simuiplat the folder hierarchy you had on the PC.
    Since you're looking for a folde/filer management system instead of a database digital asset management system iPhoto is not the application for you. There is a DAM application  that will do exactly what you want. It called Media Pro 1.  It's a professional DAM application.  It's what I use to manage my photos and then use iPhoto for special projects like books, calendars, slideshows, etc.

  • Still possible to have consolidated Library view in iTunes 11 ?

    Hi,
    In prior versions, it was possible to view a "Library" view which would include all media (Music, Movies, Podcasts, etc) by following these commands? I don't want to screw anything up !
    This is taken from an article appearing in MacWorld, which I have used safely in the past.
    Quit iTunes if it’s running, open Terminal (in Applications -> Utilities), and enter these two commands (the $ is just the prompt; don’t type that), pressing Return after each:
    $ defaults write com.apple.iTunes show-library-playlist -bool TRUE
    $ defaults write com.apple.iTunes hide-library-playlist -bool FALSE
    Note that the second command may not be required—on one of my machines, this trick worked after only running the first command. On a second machine, however, I had to use both commands.
    Now restart iTunes, and notice the new Library entry in the Library section of the iTunes side panel. Click on it, and you’ll see that it contains absolutely everything—music, TV shows, movies, podcasts, etc.—in iTunes.

    Sorry, thanks for your reply, but you missed the point.
    The commands allowed a consolidated view named "Library" which sat at the top of the Library list above Music.
    It contained ALL of the media, not matter which catagory it was filed under. Very helpful for organizing, etc.
    This was actually a hidden preference in iTunes, hence the abiltiy to make it appear via the terminal command.

  • Default Export Presets completely vanished

    Hi all;
    I was busy exporting images for a project, and when I went back to export another, all the default export presets were suddenly gone - all that is left in that box is something called untitled with all the settings set at 0. How do I get them back? Where did they go? Is it a view options problem or something more serious? Do I need to re-install Aperture to get them back? I would just make up my own preset, but I know diddly about gamma and color stuff etc. etc.
    Thanks to all in advance!

    Hi!
    I figured this one out by calling Mac support. I couldn't say exactly what they guided me through, but I did have to go to applications - library and delete some presets plists. All is good now.

  • How do I default my photos to open in Lightroom?

    How do I default my photos to open in Lightroom?

    Lightroom is not a file browser so there is no open function. To view files you first have to import (register) them into the Lightroom catalog. You can then work with them in the various modules, Library for photo management, tagging etc, Develop for editing (non-destructively) and making creative adjustments. Other modules for sharing, printing etc.
    It completely different from image editing programs like Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro etc.

  • Using filters in custom library/viewer

    I'm building a custom library/viewer using the sample files from Derek Lu's article "Creating an HTML implementation of the DPS default library" as a base. It's a great way to get started! What I would like to do is add functionality to use the filter-functions present in the default library/viewer. Does anyone know if there is a way to get hold of the source-code for the default viewer or if anyone know of any documentation that could assist me in this? Has anyone in here experience in building a custom library/viewer with filter-functionality?
    Big thanks for all help I can get :-)

  • Some photos don't show in LIbrary view--just the outlines of them

    Tonight I tried to transfer a bunch of digital photos from a CD my daughter burned into my iPhoto library, into the 2006 year folder.
    I opened the CD and in the icon view, the pictures looked fine--jpeg files.
    After I transferred them, these pictures don't show in my initial iPhoto window (the one that opens first when you click on iPhoto in the Dock, and shows all the pictures in my Library sorted by (in my case) roll/date.
    Then photo thumbnails from years prior to 2005 show up, fine, but for the most recent year of pictures, all I get are the outlines of where the thumbnails ought to show. When I click on one of the blank thumbnails, of course I get a blank ...but the frame in the lower left shows the ID info for the picture and the picture counts, etc.
    I can open the folders from the Pictures file and see them...they just won't show up in the overall Library window.
    So...I moved the transferred ones out of the iPhoto library and just put them in the Pictures folder for now.
    But what did I do? And how do I "fix it" to make all the thumbnails show up again? This is probably some simple thing...but I can't figure it out. I tried showing just the last 12 months...and I get all the blank outlines.
    G4 iBook   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   Using iPhoto 5, 768MB RAM,

    Hi john,
    First problem. You need to import photos into the iPhoto Library the correct way which is while iPhoto is open. Drag the photos out of where you put them (you already did) now you can import them into iPhoto from there.
    Read on for more info....--First thing to know and remember is this...Do not drag any images, folder of images into the iPhoto Library in the Finder. Images have to be imported into iPhoto within the application. Do not scan images and save them into the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder. Save them to another location such as the Pictures folder or even the desktop. You can then import them into iPhoto.
    If you have already put files/folders in the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder then you will also find out that if you try to import them into iPhoto you will get an error message. No worry, just drag them to the desktop and import from there.
    --All images that you import are shown in the library view. You can choose how you want to view, by rolls, by date, by rating, etc. When you put images in an Album, slideshow, book, etc, you are actually just putting pointers to those images in the library. You are not adding more images. If you delete an image from the Album it will still be in the library. If you delete an image from the library it is deleted from iPhoto's database and your hard drive (unless you have it backed up somewhere else)
    --You have a folder of images on your hard drive and want to import them into iPhoto. Drag the folder of images into an open iPhoto Library window and the folder of photos will be copied into the library, resulting in a new roll with the name of the folder. You now have two copies of those photos, the ones in iPhoto's database and the ones on your desktop. You can keep the ones on your desktop that you just imported as backup or you can delete that folder.
    -- you scan a picture/pictures and save it in a folder. You cannot scan directly into iPhoto or the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder.
    You want all your photos in iPhoto so you import them into iPhoto.
    Now you have two copies of that picture/pictures, so you can delete the originals that were in the scanned folder and keep the one/ones that were imported into iPhoto.
    -- You download pictures from your camera into iPhoto.
    There is now one copy of each of the pictures. (DO NOT HAVE IPHOTO DELETE THE IMAGES FROM YOUR CAMERA! DELETE THEM MANUALLY WITH THE CAMERA-if something goes wrong with the import and they are never imported and then they are deleted from the camera you might end up losing those images)
    You want to change something about a picture you imported, such as
    cropping it or changing the size, or changing the orientation.
    Once you do that to a picture, you now have two copies of the picture
    in iPhoto, the original and the edited one. The edited one will be in the library organize view. The original is packed away in an Original folder in your iPhoto Library folder under the date of the roll. You can always revert to the original by control clicking on the photo and choose "revert to orginal" You will not have this choice if you used iPhoto Diet to get rid of the Originals.
    (a quick note on cropping within iPhoto...when you are in edit mode, you automatically will be in the crop mode with cross hairs to highlight the crop area. To finish cropping you must click the crop button and then go back to library view and your cropped picture will be there.
    3.You want to use Photoshop or another graphic program to edit a picture in your iPhoto library.
    You can open up prefs for iPhoto and choose "when double clicking on
    photo ..do" choose "other" and select Photoshop. Now you can edit all
    pictures in your iPhoto library in PhotoShop by double clicking. If you save the photo with the same name and as a flattened file it will be saved right into iPhoto and you will see the changes. If you don't want to save it into iPhoto then do a "save as" and save to the desktop. You will then have the original photo still in iPhoto and your new edited photo on the desktop.
    Or, with iPhoto open, you can drag a picture from the library window
    to your desktop (you see a + sign on the pic you are dragging). You now
    have two of the same picture, one in the iPhoto library and one on your desktop. You can open up the one on your desktop in any graphic program and work on it. The one in iPhoto stays the same. You can also share/export the picture/pictures to your desktop or folder to work on them or do batch processing, etc. You will still have the originals in your iPhoto Library.
    Or, you can open up the ~/Pictures/iPhoto Library/folders and option drag any
    picture out of the folder to your desktop. Notice that you will see a plus sign while dragging the photo. This is copying the file to your desktop
    I would advise anyone not to do this as they might forget to use the option key and drag the photo out. Next time you open iPhoto the photo will be missing.
    Two Apple kbs for you to read
    Don't tamper with files in the iPhoto library folder
    About the iPhoto Library folder
    Don't forget that in Library view you can Control click on any picture and get a contextual menu with many options. One is to revert to original.
    Now to get to your next problem...do a "get info" on your iPhoto Library folder.
    Get info on the iPhoto Library folder
    Make sure the owner is you and you have read/write" permission. If not, click the lock to unlock and change to you as the owner with Read/write. Click the button at the bottom.
    iPhoto Library Info
    Get back with results or any more info.
