  • IDCS2 default pdf presets do not appear and cannot be loaded

after upgrading to cs2 the default pdf presets in indesign and illustrator do not appear. the job options files are in the correct folder: library/application support/adobe/adobe pdf/settings, but the dial icon does not appear (it's a gray box instead).
i am also not able to make new presets or load any presets. i get the error message "cannot create the file. the folder may be write protected" or "cannot import presets from this file".
i have uninstalled and reinstalled cs2 and acrobat 8 several times to no avail. i've also repaired permissions.
i have tried the adobe phone support, and they suggest it is my operating system?
    any ideas?
    Power book G4 17" osx 10.4.10

I noticed this being a problem under Leopard and the update for 8.1.2 of Acrobat Pro. I just Can not get those .joboptions settings to load into IDCS2.. The permissions are set the same as those on working Macs (who are running Tiger BTW). I then opened Distiller and manually loaded each setting and resaved them out- The icons show as being .joboptions files-
IDCS2 still won't see them. It won't have anything to do with them. Oddball stuff- not every computer has the problem only those with the combination of Leopard and the Acrobat update applied. I don't have any leopard Macs with 8.1.1 or 8.1 installed so I can't report on that.

  • Modifying the default .pdf presets

    Using CS3
I've made my own preset for saving .pdf proofs from Illustrator. However it always defaults to the 'illustrator default' .pdf preset.
    Is there a way to either;
    - Make my preset the default so that I don't have to select it every time.
    OR
    - Modify the existing 'illustrator default' preset to be my own settings permanently.
99% of the time I'm using my preset and it sucks having to go to the dropdown every time and choose it.

Record an action, it remembers the preset you chose. I like to send mine to the desktop, and then I put them in the correct folders afterwards.
Tip: I record a save prior to teh save as pdf, so I don't accidentaly make a pdf and not save my revisions to the .ai file. I do get a false positive saying that save is not available (if this has already been saved) but to me that is worth not losing track of work/revisions.
The action is fast, and occasionally crashes illustrator sometimes(have found this true on different computer at different agencies I work at), so set your flyout menu playback settings to 1 sec delay.

  • Setting a Default PDF Preset

I have made a custom PDF Preset for my students to use.  It is loaded in all the programs fine, but I can't figure out how to make it the Default when saving/exporting from the various programs (inDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, AutoCAD, etc). I don't want to delete the other options available but I would like the one I have made to be the Default.
As a side note, does anyone know if there's a way to add metadata to a preset so I can see in Acrobat Pro which preset was used? Right now I just have to assume that they've used the correct one.

This is the answer I got via someone who knows way more about PDF's than me:
There is no way to make a specific Adobe PDF Preset a default selection across all applications. Silly, I know, but they are only shared and you have to make sure you select the proper setting when creating a PDF.
As for the metadata that contains the preset, the only way to include the PDF preset that was used to create the PDF file is to create PostScript and go thru Distiller (making sure that “Save Adobe PDF Settings Inside PDF File” is checked under the “Advanced” tab when you edit the PDF setting in Distiller. When exporting directly from CS applications, I’m not aware of any way to embed the preset.

  • [AI-CS5]How to get default pdf preset list.

    Hi All,
I want to get the complete list of pdf presets, the same"Adobe PDF Preset" list which we see in "Save Adobe PDF" dialog.
I am unable to find any method to get this list programatically.
Can anyone please point me in the right direction ?
Is It feasible/possible to get list programatically ?
I am able to get the list in Indesign using "IPDFExptStyleListMgr" interface. Do we have its counterpart in AI as well.
    Thanks
    D.

    Thanks for the reply!!
I am not sure, if PDF Preset Folder remains same universally. Is there some preferences user can set to changes preset folder path ?
If not than I suppose, I can do this . Though Drawback with this approach is, It will requires iteration on two folders, first on All User's App folder than on current login user's App folder for custom presets. Also I need to write different code for both Win and Mac.
I was looking for some better approach. Don't AI provide some API for this simple task ?

  • Missing default filter presets in Library View [Lightroom 3.6]

    Hi there,
It's my first topic on this forum.
Yesterday I have installed Windows 8. At beggining everything was fine with lightroom. I have left computer turned on whole night to let lightroom generate previews to my whole collection.
In the morning I have noticed that filters are missing in Library View:
When I create a new filter from File -> Library Filters -> Filter By I have got filter enabled but in this view from screenshot there is no option "No filter".
What should I click to recover all filters?
Thanks in advance for your replies.
    EDIT:
    Topic solved.
It occured that missing presets are not build in by default in Lightroom 3 and I got them since Lightroom 1.1. Copying catalog "Lightroom Settings" from another computer solved issue:

    Geoff the Kiwi
Fortunately I had backed up the catalogue earlier in the day and I have the
option set to optimize it after it gets backed up, also the option is set to
check the integrity prior to back up. I'll back it up again since I've made no
changes since recovery from the hang up.
Any suggestions on steps to take the next time this happens to help in
diagnosing the problem as I have lots of metadata work to do?

  • How do I load an Adobe PDF preset into Bridge?

With InDesign I go to File>Adobe PDF Presets>Define>Load. I would like to do the same thing in Bridge so that I am using a PDF preset that I choose instead of the default PDF preset that is in Bridge. I need to know that the PDFs generated from Bridge and InDesign are being generated with the same PDF preset. I am using Bridge CS5.5 on a Mac. Thanks.

I don't think you can do this… Bridge generates it's *.pdf files using the cached *.jpeg previews… Try with some vector files and you will see the result is nothing like ID… If you want them to be the same standard then use ID to make the contact sheets…

  • Pdf presets gone

For some reason the default pdf presets where deleted from my Mac. The ones like [smallest file size], [press quality] and [print quality]. They weren't present in the default location either (library, application support, adobe, adobePDF). So I copied them from a second machine. This seemed to work, however, the names are in Indesign, Photoshop and Illustrator now in English, while I installed CS3 in Dutch. Only in Acrobat Pro the names are still in Dutch. On all machines CS3 was installed in the Dutch language. The pdf presets have English names on all machines, but this shouldn't matter? The other machine is using the same default pdf preset files with English names but when I do an export in Indesign still displays the name in Dutch like it should. How do I make the names in every application in Dutch again, just like Acrobat does?

You can download the presets from me at https://www.yousendit.com/download/UW14SlJ5d0llcElpR01UQw, but where they belong will depend on your OS.
Before doing any of that, however, I believe another user mentioned last month that replacing their prefs brought the presets back, so it might be worth trying that first. See Replace Your Preferences and use the Manual method after making a backup.

  • CC 2014 PDF Presets, where are they?

    Hello,
Until CC2014 (specifically Illustrator) I have been able to install PDF presets on 30+ systems here in our studio by copying filename.joboptions into (on OS X) /Libaray/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe PDF/settings folder. I'm currently testing a rollout of CC 2014 and have noticed that it doesn't appear to read x.joboptions from that folder anymore. Does anyone know where Adobe is now storing the default PDF presets for the system NOT the individual users.
    Thanks
    - Art

    Hi aizzard,
Since CC2014 every product is storing presets inside of each application folders.
For Ai any PDF custom job option files can be saved to location :
    ·         For locales - ja_JP, ko_KR, zh_CN, zh_TW :
    o   Win: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CC 2014\Support Files\Required\pdfsettings\settings\japan\settings\
o   Mac: \Applications\Adobe Illustrator CC 2104\ Adobe Illustrator CC 2104\Required\pdfsettings\settings\japan\settings\
    ·         For other Locales –
    o   Win: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CC 2014\Support Files\Required\pdfsettings\settings\mul\settings\
o   Mac: \Applications\Adobe Illustrator CC 2104\ Adobe Illustrator CC 2104\Required\pdfsettings\settings\mul\settings\

  • Is there a way to set default PDF options/presets in Illustrator CS5?

I do a lot of design and have a custom preset created for saving my .ai files to .pdf. It's not a big deal but it's a little tedious switching from the default adobe PDF preset to my custom preset every time I save as to a PDF (Besides the ocassional times where I forget to switch it altogether, having my preset set to default would eliminate that).
So I guess is there a way to set my custom preset as the default option for .PDFs? Thanks.

Unfrotunately, I tried that and I guess you're not allowed to delete the presets that Adobe's created in Illustrator
(Unless there's a way to find the actual preset file in Finder and delete that? Not sure because I've deleted the presets in HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe/ AdobePDF/Settings but an Illustrator Default still appears).
    Thanks though.

  • PDF Preset - making a custom PDF preset the "default" selection

Hello- I always use the same PDF preset when saving pdfs at my job. But every time I go to save a document as a pdf I have to use the drop down menu to choose my preset. Is there anyway to make the program default to my custom preset? This seems to happen automatically in Indesign, but I cannot get it to work in illustrator.
    thanks!
    liz

I'm having the same issue. The Adobe PDF Presets window (from the Edit menu) lets you add/delete and import/export. However, I see no method to designate a specific preset as the default. So as you describe, I'm having to choose the Preset from the drop-down menu each time. While I can make AppleScripts that utilize the preset I need, it's a pain to have to make the drop-down selection when I'm working on just one file. Since I use a particular PDF Preset +90% of the time, it would be great to have the option to set it as the default. If I find any work around, I'll post it here. Thanks - Josh

  • Missing PDF Presets in Illustrator CS2 - Please Help

I use Adobe Illustrator CS2 for work (running on Windows 7 32-bit).  I am not sure how it happened, but I suddenly can ONLY save a PDF using the Illustrator Default option in the Adobe PDF Preset field.  I no longer have the option to save a PDF using as Press Quality, Smallest File Size, etc.
I have searched around the web and have not been able to find any good info on how to restore these presets.  Any help with correcting this would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

    how to restore these presets.
By reinstalling any Adobe app that makes use of the shared PDF components. The presets themselves are stored in the pertinent program folder and also in your user data folder. In fact if you simply create a new user account they may magically show up because they were re-created/ copied with factory defaults... On the other hand that may also point to possible permissions issues with your own user account - the files may be there, but inaccessible due to insufficient privileges. Other than that really simply reinstall.

  • PdfExportPresets.add - name becomes default "Adobe PDF Presets 1" - bug?

    Hi,
I am not really a programmer and completely new to scripting. I just want to create a very simple script that I can use with a panel created with Adobe Configurator.
I'm trying to load new joboptionsfiles (.joboptions / PDF Export Preset) via a script. I found/slightly adapted the script that does this:
    app.pdfExportPresets.add(File.openDialog("Choose a File: "));
But: this will change the name of the job option in the list to the default "Adobe PDF Presets 1". When I load the same joboptionsfile the normal way (via File > Adobe PDF Presets > Define), it does show the correct name.
Is this a bug in the scripting, in my script? Is there a workaround?
    Thanks!
    Eddy

    >>I'm guessing it's pointless to question why Adobe Reader is trying to resolve a domain name by sub-domain only (i.e. www vs. www.adobe.com)... but I was able to resolve our issue by modifying the hosts file as such:
    >>x.x.x.x www
    >>I really don't like this fix though for obvious reasons.
I can't come up with an plausible explanation for the partial lookup other than it being a bug If your are using the pdf-files exclusively from one site ie. your local network setting up the entry in the local dns would probably solve the issue for all your users. However if you have users accessing the files from other parts of the internet it becomes a very tedious exercise. As an alternative to the hosts file solution, you could consider disabling netbios over tcpip all together which also bypasses the lookup. And as a last option, accessing the pdf by ip, however when using https this is not an option.
However, the REAL solution to this problem would ofcourse be a patch from Adobe, nudge, nudge, wink, wink, anybody listning

  • CS5 Pdf Presets Missing

    Hi all
I have recently notices that the pdf present when exporting from indesign as pdf(not intereactive) are all missing.  I dont have the option to export as a high res, print quality, smallest files size and the various other options that are normally available.
Does anyone know how i can go about getting them back?  Are they something i can download from adobe somewhere? can i set them up?
Really stuck on this! Thanks for your help in advance!

Don't restrict the search to Adobe applications folders. Is there anequivalent to the all users profile -- an all users library? If not check your own user library, or maybe someon with a Mac can tell us where they ought to be.
As far as copying, yes, if they are truly missing. One way to get them into the system would be to g to the PDF Presets "Define" dialog and load them from the copy.
