Missing Device Backups in iTunes

After a new installation of Lion I restored iTunes from Time Machine. For some reason none of my Device backups are showing in the preferences pane. Any recommendations on how I can find the missing files in Time Machine and restore them to iTunes would be appreciated.

It only appears when a device is connected. If you have a device connected and it is not recognized, the following may help:

Select the iPad or iPod touch in iTunes, then right click -> Backup.
See -> iPhone and iPod touch: About backups

  • HT4946 Oops, I deleted my device backup from iTunes but want it back!

When a device backup is deleted from iTunes, is there a way to get it back?  I was trying to sync my iPad and create a backup on my new laptop, but it glitched during the sync process so now my "Other" is shown as almost 25GB on my 64GB iPad.  I had created a backup at that point, which included all my local app data.  However, in my attempt to fix the "Other" size issue, I somehow ended up restoring my iPad to an old backup from two months ago and deleted the current backup accidentally.  I would really like to find out where the device backup goes when it is deleted.  Does it move to the Recycle Bin or anywhere else on the computer I can access it to bring it back?  I have lost about two months of local app data by accidentally restoring to this older backup, but now I have no current backup to use!

That is a really good suggestion, however it was all done within a period of a few hours (from time of backup creation to accidentally deleting that new backup instead of the two-month old version). Therefore, I don't believe the computer had a backup in between that time. I will look, but I think it was created and deleted all too quickly for there to be a secondary backup restore point on the computer.

  • Accidentally deleted device backup in iTunes

i have Time Machine backups. how do I recover accidentally deleted device backup?

Triple-click the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return. A folder may open. If it does, enter Time Machine and restore the contents from a snapshot that predates the unwanted changes.

  • Missing iPhone backup in iTunes from iOS5 update. What happens to the backup files from the update process?

My PC had a BSOD while restoring my data.  After I restarted, opened iTunes, and connected my phone, the restore did not resume. (I have seen the restore process resume after an interruption.)  I tried to manually restore the data, but iTunes does not list the backup that was taken during the update process.  Is this backup stored in a different location or format?  Is there a way I can get my data back?  I tried an extraction tool from the web and it didn't detect the backup from the update.

Same with me; I only found one backup dating back from august; tried that and works fine. But missing all my pics/vids in between. I have been searching my pc for files that were created on the day of the OS upgrade, but could not figure out any backups...
    Any help?

  • I cannot find my backup on iTunes?

I took a manual back of my iphone 4s on 22nd May, 2013 because i wanted to upgrade my iphone to iOS 6.1.3.
But i ended up updating my iphone on the 26th of May, 2013, when i again took a back up of my phone. Strangely on 26th May, the backup was taken in less than 3 minutes and there was no error message infact itunes read that backup taken "TODAY at ___pm)
Now when after updating my iphone to iOS 6.1.3 i tried restoring the backup taken on 26th there was an error message saying that "Cannot restore backup and Itunes could not take a backup on this computer" or something like that.
But I also cannot see the full backup taken on 22nd May, 2013. What do i do now?

Check iTunes for the back up.
    Windows: Edit>Preferences>Devices>Device Backups
    Mac: iTunes>Preferences>Devices>Device Backups

  • HT201210 Why can't I change the location of my device backups?

Why can't I change the location of my device backups?
iTunes seems to force me to use my c:\ drive as the destination for all backups.
Background: I have set up my c:\ drive only for programs - all data is stored on separate drives - including my iTunes library and all media. So, I can't skinny down the c:\ drive any more without uninstalling programs.
The issue is that my 10,000 rpm, 280 GB - C:\ drive is fast but small and is now FULL after I got about 1/2 way through a 128 GB backup of my ipad.  (Yes, all movies have been deleted off of the iPad to minimize the size of the backup.)
I deleted the partial iPad backup, moved all the Mobile Applications to another drive, emptied the recycle bin and tried again with my much smaller iPhone.  You guessed it: the io7 update hung and both of my devices are now paper weights.
Which leaves me f*cked, anyone know how I can un-f myself?

iTunes movies are not part of an iDevice backup.
Videos & photos you take with the camera (in the Camera roll) are part of the backup but those should be sync'd to the computer and removed from the camera roll.

  • Device Backups missing

I haven't checked this in a while but after updating to iOS 4.3 I've noticed that my device backups are missing. My last backup was in August 2010. I sync to my Mac at least once a week sometimes more. Why is my iTunes not backing up my data? Can anyone help me? I have tried to completely clean reinstall Snow Leopard to resolve this issue but no success. Still not backing up my devices. iPad 1 nor iPhone 4!

iTunes could not connect to the iphone because an unknown error occured (0xB78156A1)
It was able to back up on a separate User account but not on my User account. It must have something to do with my User account.

tried defining the iPad as new - the same problem. started it in recovery mode - the same

    The definition of insanity.....
Does it ask for the old device by name?  How do you know it isn't restored?   Have you completed setup and checked on the device?
Are you using the same iTunes account and Apple ID?
On your iTunes account, Open preferences, go to devices tab
Look in the box for a backup of your old device.    Is there a backup?
If there is no backup, you have nothing to restore.

  • IPad1 can not install software 4.3.2 update -message due to corrupt backup - but when I go to delete backup there is no backup in device section of itunes - in preferences

iPad1 can not install software 4.3.2 update - message - due to corrupt backup - but when I go to delete backup there is no backup in the device section of itunes under preferences

The problem was cured by going to <user>/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup and moving the files from that folder to desktop and the ipad backed up and the software installed

  • Can I recover a deleted device backup in windows iTunes?

I was backing up my iPhone with iTunes and a couple of things happen: 1. All my phone numbers where deleted after the backup.
    2. Me thinking this was a glitch, I attempt restoring from backups all my data. Instead of fuged-up further. I said to myself, maybe the backups will reset if close iTunes; maybe they will reset if I delete older ones (in the past when I did this they remained in the backup history). Nothing happen and I lost my data, and my backups.
So, can I recover deleted device backups in PC? Please Help. Thank You.

Open up old files in the autosave vault until you find one with the deleted bin.  copy it into the current project.

  • Why is the Device Backup grayed out in my iTunes File menu?

I am searching for a way to Backup my iPod Classic, but the Device Backup is grayed out in my iTunes File menu? My iTunes is running on a 64 bit Windows 7 Machine. Has this been covered in a Discussion that I haven't found yet?  My iTunes works fine on this 64 bit Machine so far.  Any help would be appreciated.

Just select the Image trace panel from the window menu and then customize it.
