Missing DIR /usr/X11R6/lib
Dear,
After installed OUL5-x64 and comparing with other server that was running ebs R12. My server was missing the DIR /usr/X11R16/lib and a library /usr/lib/libdb.so.2
Pleas advise which pakage that i need to install to get the two missing.
Thanks in advance.
The libraries which used to be in /usr/X11R6/lib are now found in /usr/lib and/or /usr/lib64.
The oracle documentation describes how to get past the libdb.so.2 problem:
3.4 Oracle HTTP Server on Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.0 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.0
If you intend to use Oracle HTTP server, which is included in Companion CD of Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2) Media pack, refer to the MetaLink note 317085.1 for more information on using Oracle HTTP server on Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.0 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.0.
Legacy entry points required by this version of Apache (libdb.so.2) are moved to gdbm-1.8.0-26.2.1.i386. You must create a symlink using the following command:
$ ln -s /usr/lib/libgdbm.so.2.0.0 /usr/lib/libdb.so.2

/usr/openwin/lib/libp missing
Hi -
Used to compile a program which uses /usr/openwin//lib/libp/xxxx.a successfully under Solaris 8 with Forte Dev 6. Now when I tried the same under Solaris with Sun Studio 10, error is generated as there is no libp directory. I checked and there is /usr/openwin/lib but no libp. Has this something got to do with Solaris 10 per se or is it part of Sun Studio 10 installation which has changed. Your help will be greatly appreciated.
RegardsHi
Thanks a ton for your mail. Yes remembered about the static libraries and checked. There is no libp directory, but all the libraries under openwin/lib/libp are now in openwin/lib.
thanks once again for the pointer -
Can I copy fonts from /usr/X11/lib/X11/fonts to /Library/Fonts ?
Hi,
Short Version
The short version of my question is in the subject (specifically, I'm referring to files of type afm, pfb, pfa and maybe some other sort of pf? located in /usr/X11/lib/X11/fonts/Type1/)
Long Version
Here's the long version, along with an explanation of why I'm interested. Please keep in mind that the only thing I know about fonts is what is contained in the xfig documentation.
I'm using LaTeX Equation Editor. (It, in turn, is using the TeXlive 2007 distribution of (La)TeX. Yes that replaced some "system files" like /usr/bin/pstopdf, but I recovered them from another Leopard Mac.) However, the equations which LaTeX Equation Editor is rendering just look wrong; for example, the equation $a=b$ renders in a boxy upright font, whereas the symbols are supposed to be italicized (math mode). Some symbols (for example $\epsilon$ a.k.a. ε) just don't appear. However, I found that the directory /tmp/random string of hyphenated numbers/ contained equation.tex, equation.eps and equation.pdf (among other files). Examining equation.eps using gv renders the equation correctly. However, viewing equation.pdf in Preview reproduces the faulty rendering. The faulty pdf is reproduced by regenerating equation.pdf using epstopdf (as supplied by TeXLive). Using (Apple's) pstopdf instead results in a slightly better result, but symbols like ε are still missing.
Just using the eps file is not useful (in addition to being kludgy) because the problem is also reproduced if I import the eps file into Keynote. Using Grab to take a screen shot of gv's successful rendering eliminates the transparent background, which results in an ugly import into Keynote.
Incidentally, I did not have this problem when using Tiger.
I'm assuming, particularly since gv didn't even work properly until I had installed fonts following the xfig documentation, that this is a font issue, and that, in particular, my X11 fonts are not transferring to Aqua. Is there a way of transferring the X11 fonts I installed for gv etc. to Aqua and if so how? Do I have to worry that font files in Aqua appear to be named after the name of the fonts, whereas under X11, the map from font name to font file appears to be the purpose of the extra file /usr/X11/lib/X11/fonts/fonts.dir?
Thanks!You must in fact add your custom fonts, as the default font set will be the same on all macs running Lion.
You do not offer details, but I may confess what I do in order to have the same font set on all macs at home, just in case someone needs to work on another computer. Usually, they are linguistic fonts.
- I do not install additional fonts, bar the first time when I install a new Mac OS
- save all fonts stored in System/Library/Fonts and /Library/Fonts unto an xternal drive, just in case something wrong happems
- I have a folder with my custom fonts, which are added to all macs around
I do not know what you want to do, but I offered a hint. -

bash-3.00#FYI:
This turns out to be caused by a Sun Studio Solaris linker bug which has now been fixed. Unfortunately the problem exists with the compiled agent. The recommended fix will be to use the version of the agent that comes out with the next release of the Solaris Cluster software as this will probably appear sooner than a patch would.

so anyone tell me what permissions I have gotten wrong & how can I get mysql to work again?
Last edited by cool (2012-12-02 18:26:18)1. You have to start mysqld as root using either sudo or from your root account
2. The safest way to start mysql is using the unit file (systemd) or service file (rc.d) -- e.g. 'sudo systemctl mysqld start'
3. My /var/lib/mysql directory has the following permissions 700 and owner/group is mysql/mysql. With those permissions, you're not going to be able to view the contents of the directory unless you are root or that user.

So look on the DVD for this package. A brute force fix would be to pkgrm the package [from a console. not an X11 session!] and then to pgdadd it from the DVD.

Ld: cycle in dylib re-exports with /usr/X11/lib/libGL.dylib liker error
Hello,
I found out that some open source applications when tied to be installed from source or trough fink or mac ports simply fail at linking with the error:
ld: cycle in dylib re-exports with /usr/X11/lib/libGL.dylib
However, when I force the linker to use /System/Library/Frameworks/OpenGL.framework/Versions/A/Libraries/libGL.dylib instead it works.
I am wondering what is the problem since /usr/X11/lib/libGL.dylib has to be exported from /System/Library/Frameworks/OpenGL.framework/Versions/A/Libraries/libGL.dylib.
It is very painful to force configure to use right version of libGL.dylib. Since the two libraries are of
different size the should be different. Simple replacement of /usr/X11/lib/libGL.dylib by /System/Library/Frameworks/OpenGL.framework/Versions/A/Libraries/libGL.dylib would work, but what are the consequences for the other applications?
I would be very happy is someone from OS X developement would reply to this and address this problem in the future.
Regards,
SlobodanPost to the Unix forum under OS X Technologies and you should get a knowledgeable answer.

Webservices.jar is missing from WL_HOME/server/lib in WLS 12c
webservices.jar is missing from WL_HOME/server/lib in WLS 12c. Was it replaced by a different jar or is this a new implementation i'm unfamiliar with? It does appear in all versions up to 11g.
Without it i won't be able to migrate my application to 12c from the older versions...hi,
In the 12.1.1 release, the 8.1 WebLogic Web services run time has been removed. So you will no longer see the webservices.jar file

Trace/BPT trap

However, the libgfortran.3.dylib is already in the mentioned directoty and I used the File command on it which gives
Somaieh-Beladis-MacBook:lib somaiehbeladi$ File libgfortran.3.dylib
libgfortran.3.dylib: Mach-O dynamically linked shared library ppc
Then I tried the otool -L command
Somaieh-Beladis-MacBook:combine_segments somaiehbeladi$ otool -L combine_segs
-bash: otool: command not found
So, could you please let me know how I should find out the proper architecture for my executable and then how to change the architecture.
Many thanks in advance.It looks as though you are using an executable compiled for an Intel processor but have the PowerPC versions of the gfortran libraries installed.
How did you install this software?
Which version of OS X are you using?
Ar you using a PowerPC-based Mac, or an Intel-based Mac? -
Problems with /usr/ccs/lib/cpp
HI,
I have problems with /usr/ccs/lib/cpp
I want get the pre-compiled program
I used a simple program
$ cat x.p
#include <stdio.h>
main()
printf ( "Process\n" );
When I used the command
$ /usr/ccs/lib/cpp x.p > y.c
The file y.c has 0 bytes.
Pls your help. I am using Sun forte 6 Update 2You should also consider whether you should be using cpp at all.
/usr/ccs/bin/cpp is the old K&R prepocessor, not the standard C preprocessor that is part of the C compiler. To use the standard C preprocessor, run "cc" using the -P or -E option.
The -P option creates a .i file and includes only the prepocessed code.
The -E option writes to standard output, and include file and line directives showing the source of all included text. -
Why is /usr/local/lib not in ld.so.conf?
Pretty much just as the subject line says. It seems that, since /usr/local/lib is recognized by the FHS (http://www.pathname.com/fhs/pub/fhs-2.3 … ALHIERARCH) it makes sense for it to be included in the default set of library paths. Does anybody know why it isn't? I searched *.archlinux.org and didn't find anything enlightening. My apologies if this has been covered before; please pass along a link if it has! Thanks.
/usr/local is considered "kinda sloppy" by whom exactly? It is the standard place for hand-compiled software to be installed, so it is physically separated from distro-installed software. This is an explicit requirement of the Filesystem Hierarchy Standard, and is built into every piece of GNU software, as well as every piece of software that uses autoconf.
Sure, Arch forces you to "learn linux". The lesson to be learned here is not how to dig through /etc, but rather that there are standard, universally-accepted places to put things. The operating system ought to support these places so that all one needs to do to install additional software is to put it there, and not have to mess around with system configuration files in the first place. Why do you think the world has moved towards /etc/foo.conf.d directories instead of having to edit /etc/foo.conf over and over again? You could say that all I have to do is add another (few) /etc/*.conf.d/bar files, but I hold that /usr/local is so standard that this should either be built in or such files should be shipped by default.
In the more immediate, the use of /usr/local is sufficiently prevalent that requiring someone to modify /etc/profile to use it is ludicrous. System-wide configuration files like /etc/profile are highly inconvenient to edit, because whenever they are upgraded, one has to migrate modifications one way or the other.
And to further rebut your point, the filesystem package already includes the /usr/local hierarchy:
$ pacman -Ql filesystem | grep local
filesystem /usr/local/
filesystem /usr/local/bin/
filesystem /usr/local/games/
filesystem /usr/local/include/
filesystem /usr/local/lib/
filesystem /usr/local/man/
filesystem /usr/local/sbin/
filesystem /usr/local/share/
filesystem /usr/local/share/man
filesystem /usr/local/src/
filesystem /var/local/
so why don't the init scripts (which are also in the filesystem package) enable its use? -
Problems with /usr/local/lib after installing
After I installed Leopard, I noticed that some of my files in usr/local/lib seemed to have disappeared. When I tried to open /usr/local/lib I got the following error: 'lib: Too many levels of symbolic links.' and it appeared that there was also a 'lib 1' directory in /usr/local which had all of my files in it. I managed to fix it using:
sudo rm -rf /usr/local/lib
sudo cp -R '/usr/local/lib 1' /usr/local/lib
Just wanted to give a heads up since this was rather annoying to figure out. Other than this I have very few issues with leopard, so far limited to:
-DivX playback doesn't appear to work
-after login it appears to take a while for finder to start
-a few problems mounting external devices, such as my USB drive and iPhoneI’ve found this on my system as well! I had some trouble installing MacFuse under Leopard. The installer just said "Das Installations konnte einige Dateien nicht nach '/' kopieren. Wenden Sie sich an den Hersteller", which basically means that it couldn't write to the root directory.
Then I found out about the /usr/local/lib symlink. This is very disturbing and clearly a major bug. I think it's a problem with the installation process of the developer tools. I’ve upgraded to Leopard two weeks ago. Everything worked. Then I’ve installed XCode 3.0 this and then the problem started. The circular symlink in /usr/local/lib has the timestamp of the XCode 3.0 installation… -
