Missing disc?

At first, when I plugged in my nano and tried to sync songs, I got an error message that said that 'no songs can be synced because the playlists no longer exist". Then, I downloaded iTunes, and it says "the required disc cannot be found"? Also, all of my songs got randomly deleted.
Any ideas as to what went wrong/what can be done?
Thanks.

Any help here?

  • Installation - missing disc

So I recently bought a desktop in addition to the macbook I already have. I have logic express 7 installed on my macbook and I'd like to install it on the new desktop also. The only problem is that I'm missing the Content disc for installation. In other words, I have installation disc 1 but not 2.
Are there any work arounds or cheap ways to install logic without the 2nd disc?

Well, I think its time to buy Logic Express 9 dude. You are missing out lots of cool features.
As for LE7 installation process, sorry, can't help you, as I started using LE from 8th version. However, is there any way you can choose what to install during the setup process? Any "Advanced setup" button or something?

  • Hard Drive Needs To Be Repaired - Missing Disc

I have a Macbook that came with Tiger on it, and I have manually installed Leopard and Snow Leopard. I was recently verifying the disk and got the message "This disk needs to be repaired. Start up your computer with another disk (such as your Mac OS X installation disc), and then use Disk Utility to repair this disk.". I can't find my Snow Leopard disk, but I still have my Leopard one and the original disks that came with my computer (Tiger), and I also have Tiger installed onto an external hard drive I can boot off of (I think - it's been a few years since I've tried). Would any of those be okay to repair the hard drive, or do I have to try to find my Snow Leopard disks?

No. You must use the SL version of Disk Utility. Do not use an earlier version as that could cause more problems.
What you can do in the interim (but you need to eventually use your SL DVD) is the following:
Boot into single-user mode. After startup is completed you will be in command line mode and should see a prompt with a cursor positioned after it. At the prompt enter the following then press RETURN:
    /sbin/fsck -fy
If you receive a message that says "*** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED ***" then re-run the command until you receive a message that says "** The volume (nameofvolume) appears to be OK." If you re-run the command more than seven times and do not get the OK message, then the drive cannot be repaired this way.
If you were successful then enter:
    reboot
and press RETURN to restart the computer.

  • Trying to reinstall 10.4 - missing disc 2 - HALP!

So, I'd like to preface this plee for help with: I'm stupid.
I started a reinstallation of 10.4.. and didn't realize there were 2 discs involved. Now the computer wants the second disc.. and.. I don't have it. So, what do I do? Cry?
    HALP! Thanks in advance..

    Welcome to the forums!
Your only chance without he 2nd disk is to start over and use the Install options to reduce the Languages, APPs, Printer Drivers, Fonts, etc., to a point hopefully were it is not needed... can be done usually.

  • Missing disc for brand new ipod 30gb

I just bought a brand new 30gb. I'm leaving tomorrow for Mexico so I don't have time to go back to the store and SHRIEK that the cute little package that is teh correct size for a CD is carefully sealed adn absolutely empty. I have teh newest itunes from the website but I am assuming there is specific software on that disc that is for my ipod 30gb to talk with my Win XP. I went to Apple's site thinking this should be downloadable. Peoples install discs must get damaged. Does anyone know where I can get this as a download quickly??? Thanks

The current version of iTunes and the iPod updater is all you need to use the iPod with your computer; recent iPods do not come with an installation CD. The iPod updater is available within iTunes 7 and is a standalone download for earlier versions of iTunes.

  • I installed disc one but I'm missing disc two..

My macbook won't let me do anything but accept disc two which I don't have, so I'm just stuck at the waiting screen where it asks for disc two and I can't quit the installation. I NEED HELP please, thank you.

Contact Apple phone support to see if they still have the original OS X disks for your system (there would be a charge for them).

  • I can not burn CD's with my Itunes anymore. It tells  me I am missing CD burner and to re download ITunes. I have done that and it stills does not work. Every time I try, Disc Recorder not found keeps coming up! Please someone help me!!!

I can not burn a CD with my itunes anymore. It tells me to re download itunes. I have done that and still have the same problem. When I do try, Missing disc recorder keeps coming up. Please help!!!!

    Hello again, Stew.
Also when I open itunes it gives me a warning and says "The registry settings used by the itunes drivers for importingand burning cd's and dvds are missing. Please reinstall itunes."
With that one let's first try a reboot and repair.
Reboot the PC (very important), and the do a *repair install* of iTunes.
Go to your "Add or Remove Programs" control panel, select iTunes, click "Change" and then click "Repair".
Does iTunes launch without the error message now?
If no luck there, try checking for a device filter conflict in your registry:

  • Disc space on external hd vanishes

    Hi all,
any help on the two following problems is greatly appreciated:
I have a MBP (Leopard) to which I periodically connect various external USB-harddrives for backups, photo-editing, etc. I keep having two issues that I haven't been able to resolve by searching the forum and the web:
    1) Two of the hds are small pocket USB-drives (Western Digital 320 GB, Medion 160 GB) which are formatted in FAT32. To my knowledge, I should be able to read and write, as well as delete, with the disc adjusting the available space. Unfortunately, the drive will not render previously occupied disc space. I.e. when I copy a 40 GB photo-folder from my internal HD to the external 320 GB one, and afterwards delete it, the disc space is still indicated as used in the info-tab, and the available disc space is still down to 280 GB. I've come as far as to not having enough disc space for my needs, but also don't have enough space available on either hd to back everything up on one and reformat. I am, however, not convinced anyway that this would solve the problem as the discs were formatted using my own MBP the first time around as well! Also, it seems to be a systematic error, because it's happening to both drives (they're both fairly new, < than 1 year old).
    2) My third external hd poses another problem, which might be easily solved: In this case, the drive is a bit older (but still works fine) and was previously used with a WIN-laptop - it is therefore still formatted in NTFS. In order to be able to also write on it using my MBP, I downloaded this program:
    <a class="jive-link-external-small" href="http://">http://kent.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/catacombae/NTFS-3G_20 09.4.4-catacombae.dmg
It resolved the problem immediately after the install, however, a today (a day later, after having had the MBP shut down and restarted) it is not working anymore. Even after installing the software again, no success.
Any ideas or suggestions? I will be a MUCH happier person if I can get all my back-ups done very soon, so PLEASE help
    Thanks a bunch!!

    Hi neuroanatomist,
many thanks for the swift reply - I did as you said and was in fact able to free up the missing disc space, big YAY!
I do have a quick follow up question though, if I may:
I simply went ahead and emptied my trash whilst having the two external USB-drives connected (as you suggested). If I wanted to, however, for whatever reason not delete my MBP-trash, is there any other way to get rid of the invisible .Trashes folder (or empty it, if that's the more practical/desirable solution)? I have to admit that I wasn't even able to find/see the folder, because I do not know how to make invisible folders visible in this case...
As for the commercial software: I will give it a try if I have not figured out another way by the end of the week. So if anyone else has a suggestion as to how I could solve the problem without spending any money, I'd still be grateful for a quick shout.
Again, thank you neuroanatomist!! (EDIT: ....and JoeyR, of course :))

  • What do the numbers under the disc version 1.0 mean

I need to format my mac back to factory but only have the mac os x install disc. I found a set of the discs on ebay with identical information on the one disc that I have except the number under "version 1.0"; mine says Mac OS version 10.6.1 Disc version 1.0 2Z691-6517-A; the discs on ebay say Mac OS version 10.6.1 Disc version 1.0 2Z691-6674-A and applications install disc has 2Z691-6673-A. Will the discs that are on ebay work for my computer? Thanks

No. Shipped discs are for the machine they shipped with. Call AppleCare and get the appropriate missing disc for a nominal S&H charge. Don't buy the ebay ones, they're for another machine. See Computer-specific Mac OS X releases for details.

  • Missing Disk Space....How to Fix This?

    Hi all,
I've got a 60gb Macbook. I'm using Whatsize to figure out what's been eating my hard disk space, but it still doesn't make sense. I'm the only user on my computer, and my home folder says I've used about 43 gigs with about 12 left. Using Whatsize, it calculates my use to be about 21 gigs, which is what I figured it to be, adding up my music, photos, docs, and apps. But on the sidebar of the Whatsize app, it says that I've used 43 gigs in my home folder. So what is eating up the extra 22-ish gigs on my hard disk that my home folder says I'm supposedly using? I was poking around Whatsize and under Macintosh HD-->Users, I found something weird. I've got 2 accounts under the same name ".USER" and "USER". The one without the period before it contains all of my files and docs and stuff (and 21 gigs, exactly what I've been using), while the other one just says "USER.sparseimage" and the sparseimage is 26 gigs! What is the sparseimage and can I delete it? If anyone can help, I'd appreciate this! Thanks!

    Hi,
I had the same problem with FileVault (FV) on my MacBook when I deleted a master copy of a iphoto DVD. The cdr file (ca. 5GB) disappeared but the space was still occupied.
What worked for me was simply turning on USE SECURE VIRTUAL MEMORY in the FV preferences (Preference Panel). FV (Mac OS X 10.4.10) requested a restart and then asked me whether I desired a cleanup of my disc.
Confirm FV's cleanup request and let it restart. You should have that missing disc space back afterwards.
Hope this works for you guys also. If you are interested, www.omnigroup.com has a great program to check where your disc space has gone (Disc Sweeper) and I advise to always get the AppleCare. Have had a few macs and not one worked the way it should.

  • Leopard install disc

The hard drive on my macbook died (13" white with osx10.5.8 installed) I replaced the drive and reinstalled the software but my disc had no installers for iphoto or imovie. The software was on the computer originally. Do I need to purchase ilife to get the software. I always assumed they were on the installation disc and never backed up the actual programs.

The original software included with the computer at point of sale,
was a two-disc installer set. The first disc is a bootable install-
restore disc with most of the original software and the second
disc includes some apps and extras; in some configurations, both
discs would be asked for, in process of restoring the original goods.
Some computers may have included more than two software discs.
Did the computer ship with Leopard 10.5? Some earlier white 13"
Intel-based Macs shipped with a special version of Tiger 10.4. The
    first Intel-based MacBooks shipped in about 05-2006 ~ 11-2006.
The 'Late-2007' MacBook 13" computer was the first to ship with
Leopard 10.5, and Mid-2009 was last to ship Leopard, 10.5.7.
The Mid-2009 version was the transition, as later it had 10.6.x.
The original software install disc #1 would also include an official
version of the Apple Hardware Test in a partition on that DVD; it
requires a different key on start-up to launch, than to boot installer.
If you have a Leopard 10.5 install-restore DVD for that computer,
the disc #1 should have this Apple Hardware Test.
The second disc would have the rest of the applications, including
iLife, and other apps offered with the unit at time of sale.
If you are missing discs or have a damaged disc, you could contact
    Apple Sales by phone, and have your computer serial number handy;
there is a fee for replacement software. 1-800-MY-APPLE. Or you
may also be able to contact AppleCare by phone to get this item.
You should also be able to better define the computer model you have
and other details by using a serial number identifier web site; where a
serial number is entered and configuration info appears on their page.
Or, check the discs you have against the OS X version shipped with
similar Macs by using MacTracker's database app. Download it from
http://mactracker.ca web site and check your hardware version specs.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • My Mac pro won't burn discs

    Hi,
Although my new MacPro will read disks, it won't write them. That is CD's and DVD's.
I have an Optiarc DVD RW Ad-7170a burner and this ought write R & RW CD'S.
When I attempt to burn a disc, I get a dialogue box which says "No devices are available for burning" .
No 'Disc' icon shows on the desk-top when I insert a disc.
My external Phillips SPD3000cc DVD writer works fine.
Can anyone suggest what is wrong?
    Thanks
    Val

    Hi lunasa,
What software are you using for burning?
Do you have the latest EFI and firmware installed?
I used to have that kind of problem with an old G4 until I installed the correct firmware for my specific burner.
I also had the problem of a missing Disc Icon on my Desktop a few times. I simply restarted my MacPro and tried again and the Icons came back.

  • What discs come with the current (Santa Rosa) macbook pros?

I own a Rev1 Macbook Pro (but that's not really important). I convinced my friend to get a new Macbook Pro. She loves it. But she did something somewhat silly. She asked me what the discs were for that were included in her box and I told her they are only to reinstall the included software. Anyway, she was looking for Comic Life and she concluded it must be on the cds, so she ended up reinstalling Mac OS X! But now the installer is asking for Disc 2 which she can't seem to find...
Now it was my understanding that the OS came on 1 dvd, not two. There are additional parts on another disc for things like Xcode and whatnot, but the main installer should only need 1 disc, correct? Does anyone happen to recall where the second disc is found? I seem to believe it's actually in the same sleve as disc one but she says it isn't.
So yeah maybe the packaging has changed or maybe my memory isn't that great. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

I own a Rev1 Macbook Pro *but that's not really important*.
It may be important, if she asks to borrow your DVDs. The OS X Install DVDs for the Intel Macs are machine- and build-specific. So your Install DVDs for a pre-Santa Rosa MBP will most likely not work on an SR machine.
However, if she's missing disc(s) she can call AppleCare and they will send her replacement(s) for a nominal charge (something like $30, I think).
You might also point her to this link:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301229
which describes how to do a custom installation. For apps, etc., not listed there, she could use Pacifist:
    http://www.charlessoft.com/
to extract them from the Install DVDs.
    Hope this helps...
Ps. the iLife suite that was pre-installed on the Mac is located on Install DVD 2.

  • How do I retrieve my security answers to put an iTunes card on a new touch I added to my account?

I have had a 3rd gen touch for a couple years. I bought my son a new 4th gen and my daughter her own 4th gen touch. I added them to my account and added a $25 iTunes card to my son's. The store is asking my security answers and I have no clue anymore. How do I get these answers?
Both new 4th gen touches are ready to play but my daughter's says it cannot sync due to a missing disc. What is that about? How do I fix?
