Missing effects from imported images from Photoshop.

When I import from Photoshop the text files I bring In are missing some effects applied to them in Photoshop (i.e. drop shadow, outer glow etc.)  Why would this be am I missing a step why I bring it in as a composition cropped layers and convert them to editable text or is it a coding error on my end.  Any advise would help.
Sincerely,
Confused

Just a personal anecdote.
I have several Photoshop people who try to provide me with files for After Effects and Final Cut Pro projects. Bless their little hearts, all they understand is how to print on white paper. It has taken many years to convince them to just give the raw, naked, un-effected stuff and to allow me, sometimes with their guidance, to apply all effects and filters in AE.
This just makes all of my work in AE simpler and cleaner; I know exactly how things will look as I go to video.

  • How to retain filter effects from photoshop

    Hi,
I was wondering if it is possible to retain filter effects in
an image in photoshop and import into flash.
    (ie.Overlay, lighten, screen, etc.)
Is this possible and if so will it slow down the speed of the
swf. file by a massive amount?
    Cheers

You can apply (most of) these same filters and blend modes to
any image using only Flash 8
    or
You can save the file out of photoshop as a png, gif, or jpg
file. The filter effect will be "flattened" into the final image

  • How to get "Layer Mask Hides Effects" from Photoshop Plug-in

How to get "Layer Mask Hides Effects" from Photoshop Plug-in.

I don't think there's enough information here to give an answer.  Is this a Plug-in that you're writing or intend to write?  If so, what type of Plug-in is it?
If you are writing your own plug-in, the header files included in the Photoshop SDK/API have a bunch of defines for the proper codes to use.
PITerminology.h has a large amount of keys that can be used to query for information.  PIUGetInfo is probably the function that you want to call to determine what you need to know.
If you're looking for information about a specific layer, you will want to make a new PIActionDescriptor, call sPSActionDescriptor->Make(*PIActionDescriptor), and then call GetLayerInfo on the layer that you're querying information about.
You can then call sPSActionDescriptor->Get<datatype> on the layer while passing in the key of the data that you want.

  • Import images into Photoshop Elements Photo Organizer from Safari

    Hi,
I recently bought Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 for Mac. Safari is my default browser. I wonder, has anyone seen an extension or add-on to Apple Safari 5.0 that creates a context dialog that would allow one to import an image from a web page into the Adobe Elements 9 Photo Organizer. Currently, the process of importing into Adobe Photoshop Elements Photo Organizer is both elaborate and tedious. Alternatively, am I simply unaware of some simple drag and drop method to import an image from the web into Photoshop Elements 9 Photo Organizer?

    Hi Jack
It’s just not possible on the MAC even with the better Firefox open source Web Browser.

  • Importing VPE files to after effects from photoshop

I've tried this loads of times and nothing happens. The file appears in after effects but there is no camera automatically created (as I think its supposed to be) and the 3D image is still a 2D photo.
    Please can anyone help?

Several things can be going on here.
    1. It could be that your PSD / VP grids are incorrectly drawn (wall/floor/wall)
Remember that you need to have the grids drawn properly in order to allow AE to interpret the camera data.
    2. Your grid is skewed
The VPE data is dependent on those grids so that the camera placement can be determined. If you skew the grid, the camera might be 10000 px away
    3. Multi grids
You'll get multiple cameras, which SHOULD break AE.
    4. Camera Rotation
Sometimes the camera is just looking in the wrong place.
NOTE When you import the VPE, USE the VPE project that is created - don't just pull in the elements. It's camera mapping, so you'll need the correct layers and correct (crazy) camera to see the image properly.

  • Making Text Editable in AE loses the effects from Photoshop.

I have to animate text and have finally gotten that process down .. but one
problem left. The original text is made in Photoshop CS3 with shadow,
bevel/emboss effects on it. When I make the text editable in AE so I can
animate it, the Photoshop effects disappear.
Is there any way to retain the drop shadow and bevel/emboss and still make
text editable so it can be animated in AE?
    Thanks!
    Nancy

Thanks, Andrew .. I think I see what you mean and will try that.  If I <br />understand correctly, my importing the PSD as a composition means I only <br />imported the text and not the effects.  I did try importing as footage, but <br />that wasn't editable either.  I will follow your steps and see if I can get <br />this down.<br /><br />Many thanks!<br />Nancy<br /><br /><[email protected]> wrote in message <br />news:[email protected]...<br />> Hi Nancy,<br />><br />> While it sounds like you've achieved your objective - good news!- I'll <br />> point out a few things for future projects.<br />><br />> Your final solution means that you've dragged a Nested Composition into <br />> your main composition (meaning one composition inside another). • Missing icons from Photoshop CS6

I don't know if anyone has run into this problem, but there's a discussion going on about it in the Adobe Photoshop forums. Taking it here to see if it's an OS problem or a Photoshop problem.
When saving a file from Adobe Photoshop CS6 Extended, file icons will not be saved with any format (forget about the alpha channel docs) - png, tif, jpg, psd, etc. I booted from my Lion Installer flash drive, repaired permissions and disk and some icon previews reappeared. Some didn't. No generic icon or anything. My Photoshop prefs are set to save a preview on the icons, as are with the 3 other Mac users who have reported the same problem.
Has anyone else run into this problem? Does anyone have a solution. Adobe seems to be pointing the finger at Apple but, I have to admit, employees at Adobe seem stymied as well.
    Thanks,
    Clinton

Ok, this is going to sound dumb, but, I found a work-around (at least on my local mac) for the missing icons & previews.
The bad: I am having is when I save a CS6 .PSD, .TIF, .JPG, .ETC files, I get no icons or previews in finder...
The good: if I rename the file inside a search results window, then a preview & icon is genererated giving me a glimse of what the file contents are.
The bad: the new preview only shows up in the search results window, if I open the enclosing folder, the new preview is gone... where the renaming thing doesn't do anything with the preview or icon...
The sad face: Apple? Adobe? Anyone?
My first copy of PhotoShop was a beta of 1.0 that I got from Nikon way back in the "oh no you can't do that on a Mac" days and have been using Apple products before that... I have never seen such a blant UI issue that has gone on for so long without a fix. Shame, shame, shame...

  • How to reproduce the new brightness & contrast effect from photoshop?

    hello
i've made a composition in photoshop and imported it to AE. among other layers, it had a "brightness and contrast" adjustment layer.
since photoshop cs4 (i think), the brightness and contrast has changed, and instead of uniformly adjusting the brightness of each pixel, it looks at the whole image and tries to move the brightness of pixels in a more considerate and smart way (i think). anyway its very different.
thing is, that in AE, the "brightness and contrast" effect stayed the same, so when importing the composition with all the adjustment layers, the image looked completely (disasterously) different.
in photoshop i've noticed the checkbox "use legacy". when checked, it made the adjustment layer do the same thing it did in AE (which came out horrible). i tried to work on it for an hour to produce an effect even remotely similar to the one i had without the legacy, and gave up.
    so,
is there any way - hidden options, combinations of several adjustment layers, third party plugins - anything, in AE, that could reproduce the new photoshop way of controlling brightness and contrast?
    thanks,
    michael
photoshop and AE both cs5, 64bit, windows

    Paul,
can you show with a screenshot what you are trying to do?  Also... to assist with terminology...
what you are calling "reproduce" is, in Numbers and other spreadsheet jargon, called referencing a cell.
I think what you are saying is you ALWAYS (even if you add a new row) want to refer to the same cells location.
To do this you should the function INDIRECT() like this:
row 1 us a header in this example and:
    C1=INDIRECT("A2")
this notation means in cell C1 type or paste the formula "=INDIRECT("A2")" without the double quotes then hit enter
    now added a new row:

  • ? Replacing missing Effect from a Template? CS6

    Hi All,
Been a while since I have been using AE.... I wanted to use a template I downloaded from Beehive and it is asking me to replace an effect. How do I go about doing this please?
Thanks for any step by steps, again it has been a few months since I have been in AE CS6 version

    Mylenium,
Thanks for the direction on this, I had typed in Optical flares and it comes up in the menu (Box R.H.side) now I see it says it is missing too. I guess there is a spot for it when I buy it..
That seems strange to have an effect already named in my effects menu that I do not have installed. Do you know who makes that by any chance? Upon buying it will it auto load in the
    purchased template as well?
    Thank you,
    Simon

  • Problems importing 3D layers from Photoshop

Hi, I am a public school teacher in Australia and we have a site licence for the Adobe Master Collection CS4 at school. I am having some problems importing 3D layers into After Effects from Photoshop.
Firstly, I have a computer in my office with exactly the same software, installed from the same source as the computers in my class room. They are all running Google SketchUp 8, Photoshop Extended CS4 and After Effects CS4.
In my office I am able to export a 3D model from SketchUp using the KMZ format and open it using Photoshop. I can then save the file as a PSD file. I can't attach the file here as it is just over 2mb. When I import it into After Effects using the Photoshop Live 3D option I can rotate the model as normal and the elements appear as shown below.
When I try the exact same exercise in my class room (where the computers are all running exactly the same versions of Photoshop Extended CS4 and After Effects CS4) the model is imported as a 2D image with no ability to rotate or interact with the model. It appears that the camera and controller layers are missing from the timeline as well as the Solids folder from the Project pane as shown below.
I have been trying to figure out the difference for most of the day today and so far I cannot find any reason for this to occur, neither can I find anyone with a similar problem who has solved it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
    Mr Merrick

PS Live 3D requires hardware acceleration to work properly, that is in terms of OpenGL support being available in Photoshop on the machines in question. If that's not the case, the importer component won't function either as it uses the same routines.

  • Confused about importing images

I'm new to DreamWeaver but I've used GoLive for many years and still do. In GoLive if I want to import a folder of images so as to have them to work with in my site I just select Import, navigate to the folder and click it and the folder of images is copied to the site and appears in the GoLive window.
There is no way to do this in DreamWeaver that I can see. There is nothing I can find in the Help files or in the Missing Manual about importing images except one confusing entry in the Missing Manual. It says an image can be anywhere on your hard drive, but a couple paragraphs later it says images should be in the root folder of the site. I don't see any way to get them into the root folder other than doing so in the Finder which the documentation cautions against because DreamWeaver will become confused if this is done outside of DreamWeaver's Files window.
This has been absolutely maddening for me and I've spent at least an hour trying to figure out how to simply import images. It shouldn't be this difficult? What am I missing?

    Russ.G wrote:
I believe my original question clearly stated that I wanted to import a _folder_ of images into DW and _not_ bring them in _one at a time_ as I use them. This qestion remains unanswered.
No, you cannot IMPORT the images per se, there is no import function available.
Nadia, first you say to bring files into DW via the Files window and caution against doing it another way. Then in your next reply you say you don't use the Files window and so in fact bring the images in another way via Windows Explorer.
I appreciate you trying to be helpful, but I can't imagine being presented with more contradictory and confusing information.
Can anybody tell me how to import a folder of images into DW?
What I was trying to explain was that there are different ways to 'bring in' the images into the defined Dreamweaver site.
    1.  Copy them from anywhere on your hard-drive  into a specific images folder within the defined site.
    2.  Work with an image that may be saved elsewhere, but save it to a folder within the defined site.
As for the confusion.  regarding working with files, you need to understand why you need to define a site in Dreamweaver first.  DW keeps track of all the links as you build a site, but the files - whether html, text or image files - need to be inside the defined site folder structure.  How you get them in there is completely up to you.  More than one way to skin a cat as they say.
    Define a site:

  • Having problem with images imported from photoshop

I am totally new to Fireworks, I am redoing a site that was done using CS2, that is GoLive, Photoshop and Image Ready. I wanted to begin familiarizing myself with Fireworks by starting with using it to make all the web images for the site (jpgs, pngs, etc). It started well but after a while I started getting strange results from FW when I imported PSD files. The PSD imports fine into FW but when I want to "preview" or do a "2-UP" and see what it looks like as a jpg or png I just get a blank image where the jpg or png is supposed to be. However if I "export" the jpg it does get exported, but I would like to preview it to see what the quality is. This doesn't happen every time but at least 50% of the time in the last 2 days, and there seems to be no rhyme or reason behind why it works with some images but not others.
Another thing is that if I add a layer effect to the image such as "inner glow" to the PS image, and then flatten the image to make sure it gets exported to FW, it doesn't get exported. It is as if I never added the layer effect in PS.
Any help on these two issues would be greatly appreciated and help me to continue in perservering with FW.
    VL Branko

I don't think I've cracked open Bridge since upgrading to CS5/CS6, and I'm hesitant to start today! I'm therefore kind of assuming that you're starting with PSDs and opening them up in Fireworks. (If you're not doing this, give it a try.)
Regarding the 50% failure of Preview and 2-Up modes, I was thinking that saving the PSDs as native Fireworks PNGs—within Fireworks—might eliminate that problem. It's hard to imagine Fireworks not previewing its own file format, but easier to imagine it failing to properly preview a PSD file. And again, perhaps File > Image Preview might work better for you.
As far as the "inner glow" issue: 1) Be sure to add it into the PSD before importing into Fireworks, and 2) If it doesn't show up, have a look at Filters within the Properties panel for the selected object; you could try selecting Inner Glow within ‘Photoshop Live Effects’ or try out Fireworks' own native Inner Glow filter effect.
Other than for the purpose of familiarizing yourself with Fireworks, you may want to consider why you'd use Fireworks for these graphics, if they were originally created in Photoshop. Small changes in graphic appearance are always possible when moving between applications. For example, Photoshop is color managed whereas Fireworks is not; you therefore might notice a small shift in saturation or tonality between the two applications. Whether this is a concern depends on your final output goals.

  • Importing an image from photoshop into FCP7

    Hello
I have some images in photoshop that I need to bring into FCP7...I need them to look transparent so the image (video) can be seen. The images are coffee stains .I need to know how I import them. Any help would be great. I have imported images before but I think these have to be on layers to get the transparent look. The images are in layers? Do I import the layers?
    Question 2.
I have a plugin and need to import it into my filters in FCP7..I know this should be easy but could someone help with that also...
    Question 3.
Does anybody have any advice about Luca visual effects?
      thank you
       philip

If you want transparency, make an Alpha channel or put the objects on a transparent background in Photoshop. You must save the images in a format that supports transparency such as TIFF.
You import them by clicking the Import Files button or simply drag onto the FCP Browser from the Finder.
    2. A regular plug in or an FXPlug plugin?
    3. No. Why not use the Contact link on his website and ask the man himself? http://www.lucavisualfx.com/contact.htm
