Missing email from the Inbox

I have an iPhone 5 that doesn't display a particular email in the Inbox, but a subsequent search finds the email and location field on the email says "Inbox".

Disregard.
I had to use the oldest trick in the book and Quit the Mail app and restart.
Duh!

My husband and I share an email address and if he misses a day checking email on his notebook, he doesn't receive the items that I have sent to Trash on my iPad Mini.
    Appreciate suggestions.
[The curious thing is, if I "move" the deleted emails from Trash on my iPad Mini into the Inbox, I can go to my notebook, open my online email and they are back in my ATT/Yahoo Inbox.]

Is your Yahoo account set up as POP3 or IMAP?

  • Every time I move emails from the inbox to another mailbox, then click on any mailbox, and then go back to the inbox, the moved messages have returned to the inbox

Every time I move emails from the inbox to another mailbox, then click on any mailbox (the emails are there fine), and then go back to the inbox, the moved messages have returned to the inbox. I have moved them out of the inbox to other mailboxes again and again, but then they keep showing up in the inbox again as soon as I click on any mailbox other than the inbox. Very frustrating.
This has only happened since I installed Mavericks on both my Macbook Pro and my iMac. It happens on both of them.
Any ideas how to fix it?

This may be one of the known issues with Gmail and it's IMAP settings working with Maverick's Mail.
It all comes down to if you have the ALL MAIL folder visible or not via IMAP.
If you do not, then you get the behavior you are describing.
If you do have ALL MAIL visible, then there isn't a problem.
    Odd, I know.
Anyway, check out this article on Wired which describes the problem and work around. You may have to click on the NEXT button at the top of the window to advance to the proper gallery image that describes this issue:

  • After adding a new account, I can't delete emails from the inbox of this account.

I just added a sixth account to my Thunderbird installation. There was no problem adding the account and I can send and receive emails without problem. However, I cannot delete emails from the inbox. What should I do to correct this?

    It is a POP account.
I just backed up the profile.
I don't know the size of the inbox nor how to see what it is nor change it. However, the inbox for this account is currently empty. (Yes, I know this post is about not being able to delete emails from the inbox, so how can it be empty? In my research I found a post of someone with the same problem who discovered he could move emails from the inbox to another folder and then delete that folder (not the individual mails in the folder, but only the entire folder). That is how I emptied the inbox, but it is a very cumbersome work around that I shouldn't have to do.

  • TS3899 iPhone 6   Junk box and blocking junk email from the inbox?

iPhone 6 when I flag my email as junk it will not move into the junk box, instead it stays in the inbox. Also is there any way of blocking junk email from the inbox?

  • How do I delete all the emails from the inbox of my ipod touch?

As a result of my lack of management, I now have 1500 emails in the inbox of my ipod Touch. I know how do delete them using "Edit", selecting each email and then deleting, but I would like to delete them all, in one action. How do I do this, please?

There doesn't seem to be an easy way to do it. and there should be.
Try this, I never have but it should work.
    on your touch go to
    1 Settings
    2 Mail, Contacts, Calendars
3 select your email account ( the one with 1500 emails)
    4. scroll down and select Advanced
    5. select Remove
    6. select After one day  ( the default is never)
tomorrow your 1500 emails should be gone. any new emails should be there.
You may want to keep the setting at one day, one week, one month or never. BUT you should probably cleanup and delete some of those 1500 old emails.

  • How do you drag and drop/move multiple emails from the inbox or mail archive folder to a file folder in your finder?

I would like to archive hundreds of my emails that currently exist in my apple mail email filing system by moving them into file folders in the finder. I can do this easily with a single email but it wont let me do it with multiple emails or a complete folder. Is there any way of do this easily?

Thanks very much for this. However, I understand how dragging and dropping files normally works. It just seems the it wont work when you do it with emails when you are transfering them into a normal finder system folder. If you highlight one file and drag it to a finder folder it works, but when you drag multiple, it just wont let you do it.
Is there any work around for this? Thank you once again for  your time.

  • Missing email from my iCloud inbox.

When I download eMail messages they downloadI And I can see that happen. However, the eMail messages do not go to my iCloud Inbox. Nor do the eMail messages go to my gmail Inbox.
Strangely most, but not all eMails, can be found in gmail folder "Important".
I also had the same problem with Mobile Me, unfortunely at that time I did not have a gmail account. Those missing eMails from the Mobile Me Inbox were never recovered. So I gaps in my email, weeks, or months.

To change the From name on and iOS device, go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars...tap iCloud under Accounts, tap your iCloud account at the top of the next screen, tap Mail at the bottom of the next screen, then enter the name you want to use in the Name field at the top.
To change the From name on a Mac (if you have one), go to icloud.com, sign into your account, open Mail, click the gear shaped icon on the bottom left and choose Preferences, go to the Accounts tab and enter the name you want to use in the Full Name field and click Done.  Then quit Mail on your Mac and re-open it.  Your new From name should now appear in the drop-down list when you compose a new email.

  • My emails from the last five years have disappeared and trying to receive new emails generates an error message

My antivirus scan secured a FakeAlert threat. Now, all emails from the past five years are no longer visible in my Inbox and are not in the Deleted Items folder. Any time I try to receive a new email I receive the following message:
"There was an error downloading the following message:
    From: <sender>
    Subject: <subject>
This message may contain a virus or there is not enough disk space. Skip this message?"
    Enter No:
"Unable to write the email to the mailbox. Make sure the file system allows you write privileges, and you have enough disk space to copy the mailbox."
I have write privileges and 184 GB of free disk space. I recently deleted many emails and compacted my inbox. I cannot restore any files that the scan deleted because there are none visible.
I have contacted my antivirus software providers and they concluded that the problem lies with my email software. Can you please help?

REmove all emails from the Inbox to other folders.
When it is empty do the next stage.
If you are using a POP mail account and have some emails in the webmail view that are missing in Thunderbird, you could get everything currently on the server downloaded again.
Make hidden files and folders visible:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Show_hidden_files_and_folders
    In Thunderbird
    * Help > Troubleshooting Information
    * click on 'Show Folder' button
    * '''close Thunderbird now - this is important. '''
    * clickon 'Mail' folder
    * click on mail account name
    * Locate and delete these files: '''Inbox and Inbox.msf'''
    * locate and delete this file: '''popstate.dat'''
    * close the window - top right X
    * restart Thunderbird
A new Inbox will be created.
A new popstate.dat file will be created.
It keeps a record of everything downloaded, as it is new and empty, TB will believe everything currently in server Inbox needs to be downloaded.
This will get everything currently in server Inbox back in Thunderbird. As you already have some emails, you may get some duplicates, but only the once.
I would not expect any emails are recoverable from the Inbox in Thunderbird because they may have been corrupted by either an unknown reason or by the antivirus program doing something with the file to make emails lose information, it is possible that when you compacted the file emails were lost. Compacting removes 'marked as deleted' emails, but if it didi not know where a marked as deleted email ended, good emails could have been removed due to the corruption.
In future, compacting should be done on a regular basis, but never compact a file/folder that you think may be corrupted. Getting the error message saying the file may be corrupted was a good hint that somethig was wrong.

  • Emails sent to me are sometime returned to the sender with the message "Inbox full" even though I have maybe less than 100 emails in the Inbox and I regularly compact them. How can I increase the storage space?

    Question
Emails sent to me are sometime returned to the sender with the message "Inbox full" even though I have maybe less than 100 emails in the Inbox and I regularly compact them. I delete emails from the Inbox and the Sent and Trash boxes to overcome this. How can I increase the storage space to stop this happening?

    Hi terrybohle1938,
Firefox is a web browser. It provides access to online content. Things like your email are handled by the content provider. Who is your email provider? You'll have better luck consulting their documentation.
That being said, deleting only email is a great way to free up space. Another option would be to purchase a "Premium" account if your email provider offers this service. Many times more storage space is offered as part of paid subscription.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • After upgrading to Mountain Lion, when I reply to an email from the Global Inbox it incorrectly selects the reply to address.

Ok, since upgrading to Mountain Lion, when I reply to an email from the Global Inbox it incorrectly selects just my main business email account, even if the email was sent to a completely different persoanl address. This use to work without issue in Lion. I have at least a half dozen accounts that all come into the "Global Inbox" and I never worried about what account I was replying from as it always matched the account the email was originally sent to.
Now in Mountain Lion, this is broken and no matter what email I select it defaults to my main account and I have to remember to manually select the proper reply address from the drop down menu. So far the only way to avoid this is the keep all the separate account Inboxes showing and then selecting the account that I want to view. Then when I repy it is to the correct address, but having to do this makes the "Global Inbox" view completely worthless! If I have to select teh correct Inbox to get the proper reply address every time then what is the point of having a Global View?
Why did you break this Apple?

    Hello,
When you compose a message right click on the attachement and choose "View as Icon".
I know there was a Terminal command to set all attachements as icons by default but never tried it :
    - You can also use the Terminal (in your Applications folder > Utilities) quit Mail, and type in the Terminal :
defaults write com.apple.mail DisableInlineAttachmentViewing -boolean yes
    - To restore the original settings type :
defaults write com.apple.mail DisableInlineAttachmentViewing -boolean no
    (source)
    Hope this will help.

  • I am using Mail 5.3 with two separate gmail addresses. One is personal the other is business. When I send emails from the business address, any auto-replies I get COME TO THE PERSONAL INBOX. I imagine that this is a setting? Please help!

I am using Mail 5.3 with two separate gmail addresses.
One is personal the other is business.
When I send emails from the BUSINESS address, any auto-replies/out of office notices I get come to my PERSONAL INBOX.
I imagine that this is a setting? Please help!

Edit the SMTP server list. Add a new one for the business account. Put the correct password and information for it. Give it a description so you will know which server is which. Mke sure the correct server is highlighted in the account selected and check the box to use only that server for that account. Do that for the other account also.

  • HT201320 When I access my email from the iPhone, hit "inbox", the new messages appear briefly, but then just evaporate.  I can't find them anywhere - not in inbox, not in junk, trash, saved - nowhere.  Can anyone tell me what is happening?

When I access my email from the iPhone, new messages appear only briefly and then immediately disappear, before I do anything.  Only old messages that were already in my inbox are visible.  I can't find the new messages anywhere -- they have not moved to Saved, Junk, Trash, anything.  IT is like the iPhone just ate them.  Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

If you have a POP3 account this means that another "client" email program has retrieved the messages and deleted the messages from the server. You need to change the server settings on that device to leave the messages on the server.
If you have an IMAP or MS Exchange account this means that someone read the messages on another device and either deleted them or moved them to another folder. Or there is an automated script that moved them to another folder.
