Missing Essbase Server Roles
Hi,
Essbase 11.1.2.2 installed with Shared Services for security.
Looking at the help documentation I am told that I should have Administrator, Create / Delete Application, Server Access and Provisioning Manager as Essbase Server Roles. When I go into role and query these back I find all but 'Provisioning Manager' under ESB product code.
However, when I look in groups and provision, I cannot find these roles to provision.
I have;
Essbase Studio Server 11.1.2 Servers / Essbase Studio Server2
EssbaseCluster-1 / Essbase Applications VARIOUS
Foundation / Shared Services
Reporting and Analysis / Reporting and Analysis
But I do not find any of the server based roles under these headings, am I looking in the wrong place OR have these been superceded in 11.1.2 and the help documentation not updated - can anyone point me at their equivalents if so??
thanks,
Robert.
Hi John,
Under the cluster I get a node for each Essbase database, and under each I get Application Manager, Calc, Database Manager, Filter, Provisioning Manager, Read, Start / Stop Application and Write.
What I am looking for is the 'developer' level settings to allow various levels of Essbase security 'above' the application level.
thanks again for your input,
Robert.

Essbase server access role - delete DB allowed?
Good morning everyone.
We have provisioned a group in Planning with the Essbase server access role which grants read level access to Essbase databases.
We have checked that a user assigned to this group can actually access Essbase DBs to execute calcscripts and report scripts and that it does not have permission to open the DB outline --but it apparently still has permission to delete a database (as seen in the following image: https://c69ee7db-a-62cb3a1a-s-sites.googlegroups.com/site/ktratsites/Home/delete_Essb_DB.png )
As you can guess, we have not tried whether this user could actually delete an Essbase database.
Can anyone confirm whether a user given the Essbase Server Access role could really delete an Essbase DB?
IMHO, this should not be possible.
Thanks a lot.
Best regards,
G.S.FeliuIt will show the option to delete but if you select it then it should display "Insufficient privilege for this operation"
Cheers

Application Server Role missing
I am using the Server Manager to add server roles and I do not see the Application Server role. Was that removed or replaced by something else?
Hi,
According to my test, the application server role is removed for the technical preview.
http://micloud.azurewebsites.net/2014/10/01/windows-server-technical-preview-newremoved-windows-server-roles-and-features/
Application Server role is deprecated in windows server 2012r2, the Application Server role is deprecated and will eventually no longer be available as an installable server role. Instead, install individual features and roles separately.

Common components install fails for Essbase Server in a distributed environment.
Hello all, I am trying to install essbase server(V 11.1.2.3) on Red hat Linux 6, 64 bit. Have already installed Foundation Services on Windows 2008. Nothing has been configured yet. On the Linux install, the install of the common components fails. I have looked around in the forums and also in Oracle Support(Doc ID 1360561.1) and looks like it is a known issue. There is discussion that this is because of a few rpm's missing on the linux server. However I could not find a definite answer as to what exact package it was or if it actually is a rpm issue in the first place. Could someone please throw light on what exactly is causing the issue and what exact package is required. Thanks.
BTW this is the error from common-ocm-install.log

Not able to get Essbase Server list in Office with Smart View 11.1.2.1
Anybody tried Shared Connection in Smart View 11.1.2.1? I am able to connect to but it does not show any servers in the non editable drop-down box. I tried this with Office 2003 sp3, Office 2007 and office 2010 but none of them is working. Also i tried to find out the datasourse.xml file in LWS-aps in shared services console but its not there. i tried the solution given on this link also but the datasourse.xml file is not in place.
http://timtows-hyperion-blog.blogspot.com/2011/04/smart-view-private-connection-issue.html
my Environment.
Win 2003 SP2 32 bit
SQL 2005 on separate windows box
EPM 11.1.2.1
Shared Services
Essbase Server
Essbse Client
Essbase Integration
Provider services
Essbase Studio
Configured all of the above components successfully.
i'm connecting to Essbase through this URL http://<server>:19000/workspace/SmartViewProviders . it shows the login window and allow me to get in. but the drop down box is empty. no server listed.
Please let me know what I'm missing.I am also getting same problem as gaurav,
I checked,"http://<servername>:13080/aps/SmartView" Analytic Provider Services also running.
instead of Server name i tried localhost, ip address, and computer name.
but still not getting anything in drop down, even "Add New Server" Option also.
I thought this may be because Analytic Provider Services was configured after Shared Services. But for that i followed the steps:
1. Stop the Analytic Provider Server and Foundation Services.
2. Open the EPM System Configurator through Start -> All Programs -> Oracle EPM System -> Foundation Services -> EPM System Configurator.
3. Expand Hyperion Foundation and only tick the option 'Deploy to Application Server'
4. Click Next through the Configurator until complete.
5. Restart the Foundation and Analytic Provider Server Services.
6. Open Excel, connect to the Shared Connections.
But problem Continuous. -
Essbase server does no appear in Shared Services
Hi All,
I've installed and set an EPM 11.1.2.2 environment under Win 2008 server with Oracle 11g database. I've installed and configurated Essbase Server, EAS, Essbase Stdudio, APS and EIS. But when I open up shared services the Analytic Server does not appear in Application Group and into EAS I'm getting :
Error: 104: Invalid user name or password
Error: 1051012: User native://DN=cn=911,ou=People,dc=css,dc=hyperion,dc=com?USER does not exist
I know the second error is because the admin user is not provided to the Essbase server, but it does no appear there.
Does someone could help me on that ?
ThanksJohn -
Obviously several months later now, but just want to say thank you as well - I was having the exact same issue as the original poster (Essbase Server missing from Shared Services, credential error from EAS, etc). Your solution worked perfectly for me as well. That you for this solution.

Essbase Server and Deployment Server on different boxes
Hi,We're currently testing Hyperion Essbase 7.1.2 and we were wondering if it was possible to have the Essbase (Analytic) Server on one machine and Deployment Server on a different one. At first sight, it seemed so, so we did just that. Now, we'd like to test our setup by signing on through the ESS command line prompt (on the Deployment Server machine) but seem to miss something since the connection ("signon") is refused. The funny thing is that on the machine on which the Essbase Server is installed, we've also installed the Administration Services: through the Administration Console, we can indeed connect to the Deployment Server and interact with it.So my first question is: is our setup possible (that is, having the Deployment and Essbase servers on distinct boxes)? If so, what is the meaning of all the parameters needed for the "signon" command of the ESS command line prompt?Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.Thanks,A. Lepage
Yes, you can configure it that way and we have many customers with that setup. You have to login to the EDS console the first time using the 'default' admin username/password (system/password) and setup a username, with admin privileges, that also is on your Essbase server. Logout, then login with the 'real' username. Select the domain object ('essbase at the top of the tree'), right mouse click and add an analytic server. Type in the name of your Essbase server and it should be added (and you should be able to browse objects on the Essbase server). Finally, select the server, right mouse click and 'sync security'.Tim TowApplied OLAP, Inc

I am running Essbase on one Windows server and EAS, EDS, ESS, and EIS on another. Did you create the Analytic Server in EDS and then Sync Security?

Dear all,
I finished Foundation Services, Essbase and Planning installation and started the applications using start.bat|sh. When I run the EPM System Diagnostic, i had the following error messages:
FAILED EAS: Essbase Server Validating Essbase Server connection to DC-HypT01
Error: Cannot connect to olap service. Cannot connect to Essbase Server. Error:Essbase Error(1054067): Internal error
Recommended Action: Check Essbase Server is started.
FAILED ESS: Essbase Studio Server Validating Essbase Studio Server connection
Error: Network communication with the server failed. Check your network connection and try again.
Recommended Action: Start application
I started Essbase Server and Studio manually, But i still got the same error.
What could be the reason?
Many thanks in advance,
Zain

System Center Ops Mgr
Health configuration in Lync Server 2013 is built around System Center Operations Manager and the use of Lync Server Management Packs. These Management Packs include a number of new features and enhancements, including:
Feature
Description
Synthetic Transactions
Windows PowerShell cmdlets that can be run from various locations to ensure that end user scenarios such as sign-in, presence, IM, and conferencing are readily available to end users.
Call Reliability Alerts
Database queries for Call Detail Records (CDR). These records are written by Front End Servers to reflect whether end users were able to connect to a call or why a call was terminated. These queries result in alerts that indicate when a wide range of end
users are experiencing connectivity issues for peer-to-peer calls or basic conferencing functionality.
Media Quality Alerts
Database queries that look at Quality of Experience (QoE) reports published by clients at the end of each call. These queries result in alerts that pinpoint scenarios where users are likely to be experiencing poor media quality during calls and conferences.
The data is built upon key metrics such as packet latency and loss, metrics that are known to directly contribute to call quality.
Component Health
Individual server components raise alerts by using event logs and performance counters. These alerts indicate failure conditions that can severely impact one or more end user scenarios. These alerts can also indicate a variety of other failure conditions,
including services not running, high failure rates, high message latency, or connectivity issues.
Dependency Health
Failures can occur for a variety of external reasons. The management packs now monitor and collect data for some of the critical external dependencies that might indicate severe issues, including IIS availability, CPU and memory usage of servers and processes,
and disk metrics.

Windows Server 2012 R2 running on Hyper-V VM. File services, App server & IIS roles installed
SQL Server 2012 installed
Tried:
kb 2765260 method 1 which is kb 2771431 which ends with "not applicable to computer"
kb 2765260 method 2 with no effect (this was power shell commands for PC's connected to the internet)
One post suggested "aspnet_regii - enable -i" but my OS doesn't have aspnet_regii on it (not sure what that implies)
One post suggested ServerManagerCmd.exe needed to be installed which sounds true as shown below (but where do I find this exe?)
There are some errors in the log file, I only included the portions where the errors are listed. The initial lines are at the top of the log file, then I skipped to the section where the other errors were. I can include the whole log if
it becomes necessary.

I'm presuming the first 2 errors are OK and just indicate optional startup modes for prerequisiteinstaller.exe
The 2nd set of errors seems more serious. I don't see ServerManagerCmd.exe on my PC that's listed in the error
I don't understand the last error which I'm supposing triggered the listed error even though there are other errors in the log.
Many of the existing posts don't match the configuration I'm using, and the ones that do match didn't seem to provide a usable answer. Any help is appreciated. Do these problems exist using Sever 2012 Standard? I will try that, but would
like to resolve the issue here with R2.
Thanks.
Best Regards,
AlanServerManagerCMD.exe is a deprecated utility and (as far as I know) is only found on Server 2008 versions, so I'm surprised it's needed for the preinstaller. Are you trying to install SharePoint 2010?
Running this page through Google Translate should give you an clearer idea on getting this installed.

I am having tremendous trouble installing Sharepoint Foundation on a Windows 2012 R2 domain controller.
The server has just been added to our domain, promoted and this is the first piece of software I am trying to install. I had run Windows Update after joining it to the domain and before making it a member server before it was promoted.
I had real problems getting AppFabric to install but that is now done. However when I run the Sharepoint prerequisite installer (As Administrator) a results screen is displayed stating there was a configuration error during the installation of the Application
Server Role, Web Server (IIS) Role. It also says that the installation of Microsoft WCF Data Services 5 was skipped.
I manually added the Application Server Role.
I have manually installed WCF Data Services, which was successful.
I have used this page
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2765260/en-gb to try and get around the Application Server and IIS Roles error. The hotfix quoted on that page is not applicable to this system. I had to run a DISM command to create an image from the OS installation media
before the Powershell commands would work.
Next, I rebooted the server and ran the prerequisite installer again as recommended. However, exactly the same problems are reported.
Can anyone help me with this, please?
Thanks.

But regardless, with SharePoint 2013, you need SharePoint 2013 with SP1 in order to install on Server 2012 R2.

Guys,
I have "Essbase Server Release 11.1.1.3.0 - 64bit" running on "Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 4 (Nahant Update 6)". The package number for "Essbase Server Release 11.1.1.3.0" for 32-bit and 64-bit is same e.g. "V17389-01 – Essbase Server"
My IS team is planning to upgrade the OS to RHEL5 (5.6) 64-bit.
My question:
Is Essbase Server Release 11.1.1.3.0 supported on RHEL5 (5.6) 64-bit OS?
Thanks
nkw

"Intel / AMD x86-64 Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.0+ (includes Advanced Server and Advanced Platform)" is included in the supported list.
Cheers
