Missing ExpressCard in T410s

I purchased a brand new T410s and when I opened it up there was no ExpressCard, just hard plastic where a bay door should be and it was molded into the body, which is weird because you can only order it with either an "ExpressCard" or "5-1 Media Bay" and I got neither.
Support has been horrible, tech support sends me to entitlement, entitlement sends me to sales and sales says to send back the laptop for a full refund.
That's like buying a car and when you come to pick it up it's missing a steering wheel and the dealer says, "Oh, nothing we can do here's your money back"
This is my first Lenovo purchase, I've been a happy Dell customer and loved their business support. I don't think I'll ever by a Lenovo product again. And since they would rather give me back my money then fix the problem, it makes it that much easier to go back to Dell.
Solved!

  • Missing Expresscard slot MB Pro 13''

The "Pro" of the MB stands for "professional".
Not wanting a 17" MBP for it's ugly big, on my 13" I'm missing the expresscard slot for connecting an UA audio interface. Instead the MBP has a SD card slot which I don't need.
You can find and buy a SD Card reader everywhere and connect it to any computer, but you won't find an USB or firewire adapter for special devices like the UA interface.
Doesn't appear professional to me. Very smart!!! Congrats!

Apple did away with the Express Card slot on the 15" MBP when it refreshed the model in June 2009. When the 13" MBP was introduced, for the first time, it came with an SD card slot. Only the 17" units have the Express Card port.
I'm inclined to agree with eww here. If you knew the 13" MBP didn't have the necessary peripheral ports, why buy it? If you wanted it anyway, then why complain when it didn't meet your news?

  • No AES-NI Instructions on T410 / i5 560M

    Hello,
Has anyone else had issues with AES-NI instructions missing on the T410?  I just got mine, with an i5 560M, and neither TrueCrypt nor CPU-Z see the AES instructions as a capability for the chip.  I've seen very little online about this issue, so a couple of things:
    1. The i5 560M definitely supports AES-NI.  Intel's site, and everyone else's, says so.  The whole i5 line does.
    2. I've tried this in both 64-bit and 32-bit Windows.
    3. CPU-Z definitely has support for detecting AES-NI in processors that support it.  I've even seen a screenshot of an i5 560M showing AES instructions in CPU-Z.  Mine, however, doesn't show AES support.  TrueCrypt confirms.
    4. There are no settings in the BIOS pertaining to AES instructions.
This is a pretty big deal for me--AES-NI offers a huge performance benefit for those using encrypted drives through software like TrueCrypt.
I expect this is a BIOS bug, but does anyone have any other info?
    Thanks!

    Hello mate,
The wole i5 line doesn't support AES-NI but the 560M does.
What version of TrueCrypt are you using ? TrueCrypt support AES from the 7.0

  • Tomorrow's the day!  Still undecided to go either 15" or 17".  Thoughts?

    Hello:
I am very excited. Tomorrow is the day I will be getting my first Mac ever. I am finally going to take the plunge. So far, the things I know I need on this new Mac are anti-glare and 2.8ghz. I just can't decide whether it is worth the extra $200 to upgrade to the 17" screen. Express card would be nice, but then that ALSO requires more money to spend (Express Card for a SD card reader, and possible ESATA or additional Firewire ports).
My uses? I will be using this computer for college and for recording music. Down the road I will be investing in Apple Logic, a Glyph drive, and an Apogee Duet for sure. Maybe more gear too, but for now, those WILL be my primary uses.
What do you all think? Any 15" users have any horror stories to share? Regrets? How about you 17" users? Should I get a Speck Hard Shell to protect the outside of the Mac? Any recommendations would be very, very appreciated! I have done so much research for the past 5 months and I'm so excited. Hope to hear some responses, people!
    -Bud

Well maybe you've already gotten your new mac by the time you read this, but I'm just going to add my 2 cents about the 15". I'm a graphic designer and I use TWO large monitors at work, and having said that, I've had no trouble managing a smaller screen and getting work done on the 15". I don't even really notice too much difference - maybe it's that I'm so much closer to the screen on my MBP.
The big issue for me is portability because I take my MBP everywhere - and a 15" is a lot easier to lug around than a 17". I love mine - NO regrets.
The only thing is, I have the previous version of the unibody, which has the expresscard.... and I love the expresscard and use it all the time. I have a card reader and others which give me extra firewire and usb ports. I use all of them.
It would be a hard choice if I was buying the newest unibody in the 15" because of the missing expresscard slot. Too bad they dropped it.

  • Using ThinkVantage with T410 missing recovery partition.

I have just purchased a T410 with Windows 7 professional and a 320 GB hard disk from a local dealer. But I have noticed there is no recovery partition on the drive and it does not include any recovery media as well.

  • T410 - missing recovery partition

    Hi everyone
I've recently bought new T410 type 2537-A11 with WIN7 PRO sticker beneath a battery. Surprisingly, when I first launch OS, it appeared WIn7, but Home Edition. Moreover, I can't find recovery partition on hard drive!! I have no recovery discs. Probably, the seller did a "switch" OS and deleted recovery partition. Of course, the seller made no response after I described the problem. What can I do with it? Do I have to live without recovery partition or call Lenovo Poland for help (can they manage recovery discs or sth else)? Thank you for any help

According to your product number you should have the bluetooth. If you press Fn + F5 and with the wireless switch in the on position, does your bluetooth option comes up?
Regarding the recovery discs, i would imagine any T410 recovery media would be compatible with each other. You can purchase it from Lenovo directly.

  • Lenovo T410s recovery windows 7 failed to start after the system instalation.

I've got a problem with the laptop Lenovo T410s. I've put the new HDD on it (tried even the same with a different HDD too), and started to instal WIN 7 64-bit from the recovery disks. I used to do it many times so far with different Lenovo laptops without any problems. But this time, a while before the end of the instalation (when processing the sdrivebackup.wim) it stops and comes with a statement: " the recovery process has been finished, please ...." (but I see that the progres bar is far awayfrom 100%) , and finishes the instalation, reboot the computer and it comes the screen with the statement from the Windows Boot Manager:
"Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem (...)
    File: \Windows\system32\winload.exe
    Status: 0xc000000f
Info: The selected entrycould not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt"
I read a lot about the ways to solve similar problems, but they don't work on my case. The strange thing is, that I can instal WIN 8 or WIN7 from regular Windows instalation disks  (not from Lenovo recovery, but from normal universal Windows instalation disks).
As I told before, I tried it in 2 different HDD disks with the same effect. It looks that the recovery instalation stops before the end without instaling some files which are missing later during starting the system.
Anybody can help me with that problem?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It doesn't quite sound like it based on your reported error messages, but are you trying to do recovery to an advanced format HDD?  (one with 4k-byte sectors)
I ran into that issue on a T400.  The recovery media would run to completion then error out - with a somewhat different message IIRC.
There weren't appropriate drivers for an AF drive, and I couldn't find a solution.  There's no way (that I know of) to inject drivers into recovery media the way one can with install media.
If this is an AF drive issue the only way to get around it may be to install to a non-AF drive (usually a small-ish one) and then clone to your new drive.
I may be totally off in left field here - just tossing it out as a possibility.

  • Can't create a WPA2-Enterprise wireless connection; missing Microsoft: PEAP

    OS: Windows 7 64-bit Enterprise
    Hardware: Lenovo T410S w/Intel 5300 ABGN Wireless
If I try to build the wireless connection manually and choose WPA2-Enterprise, then click next, I get 'An unexpected error occurred.' and no options to configure; just close.
I then tried to create a Preshared Key WPA2 connection. This worked fine. When I go to edit the connection, I have the ability to select the WPA2-Enterprise options, however in the list of Network Authentication methods (under Security Tab), I don't have
the Microsoft: PEAP or SmartCard options. I only have Cisco: LEAP,PEAP,EAP-FAST and Intel: EAP-SIM,EAP-TTLS,EAP-AKA (6 entries).
It's my theory that because the Microsoft options are missing, the wizard gets the unexpected error. I'm wondering how I get the MS ones back.

Moderator edit:  Title adjusted to better reflect message content

    Dorian,
You found me! Thanks for the logs. They confirmed what I was suspecting: a font problem is causing any application built on Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) to crash. Based on our research there are two potential issues. The fixes are pretty easy.
One or more of your installed fonts does not have a proper date/time
The Registry may have some invalid font path entries
To Detect and Fix the Font Invalid/Missing Date Problem
Open an elevated command prompt (CMD.EXE) and navigate to C:\Windows\Fonts\
Save a font listing to your desktop with the command:  DIR *.* /tw /od > %USERPROFILE%\desktop\fontlist.txt
     3. Open fontlist.txt with notepad.
      4. Remove any fonts with a missing or invalid date (January 1, 1601 for example). Easiest way to do this is by opening Windows Explorer, going to the fonts folder (C:\Windows\Fonts\), and removing the offending fonts.
     5. Open LTT or one of the other TVTs to see if the problem is solved. If not, continue with the next section.
To Detect and Fix the Font Registry Problem
WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. I cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk!
    Open the Registry Editor (REGEDIT.EXE)
    Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Fonts
Scan the "Data" column for each font looking for any illegal path characters
If any are found, remove the offending characters. Here are some blogs that may offer additional insight: http://code.logos.com/blog/2009/11/how_to_crash_every_wpf_application.html and http://alissonsol.blogspot.com/2009/02/when-wpf-applications-dont-start.html

  • Do you need an adapter to plug firewire into an expresscard slot?

    Hi,
I was wondering if you need an adapter to plug a firewire cable into an expresscard slot? also does it accept both firewire 400 and 800? what else does the expresscard slot do?

The expresscard slot does nothing by itself. It is the modern equivalent of the pcmcia or PC card slot. It is an interface that allows you to plug in an adapter card that does whatever function the designer of the card built into it. If you need to connect a peripheral that the MBP doesn't have an interface for, you look for an expresscard that implements the missing interface.

  • Display Questions for Current T410s Owners

    Hello all,
I am in the market for a new laptop and I have boiled it down to the T410s. There is only one issue that concerns me about the actual laptop, the max resolution size. Currently I am using a 15 incher @ 1920x1200 which gives me lots of screen real estate. I do not find the text at all hard to read and I know that it would be presumably smaller even at 1080p on a 14 inch screen which probably wouldn't bother me either.
My questions to the board are:
Has anyone been in the same boat and actually bought a T410s? Do you miss all of the screen space that you used to have or did you just get over it?
Also has anyone successfully replaced the screen with a higher resolution option? Even a 1650x1050 wouldn't be a bad option. This could include unofficially supported screens among other things. Basically, just wondering if a screen change out would work.
    Thanks!

    I don't think a 1680x1050 screen panel exists for the 14.1" size.

I just had a ThinkPad T410s returned from a service depot here in Canada.  It was sent in to replace a small part on the underside of the laptop, which was repaired.  However, it came back with one of the screws on the display missing it's cover.  Based on some other posts I had read on here, I took pictures of the laptop when I packed it to go to the depot, so I know 100% that this part wasn't missing when I sent it in for service.

I've called support and I asked them to just send me the cover so that I could snap it on.  However, they said they could not find a part # for it, so I'd have to send the laptop back to the depot for service again.  Can anyone on identify the kit that would contain this part so that I can avoid this?  In the service manual I see three different kits that include "Screw cap, thin" but I'm not sure if that's the part I need or not:
    75Y4472  Screw kit for T410s and T410si
    45M2673  Seal kit
    45M2674  LCD miscellaneous parts
I'm quite irritated that I have to deal with this at all.
    1) I don't know why they would have touched the LCD screen in the first place to replace a part on the bottom of the laptop.
    2) It demonstrates a lack of detail on the service depot's part: a workbench should be checked to make sure no parts are leftover that weren't there when the laptop was unpacked.  And even if the part was missing when it arrived, good customer service would be to replace it.

Lookup a local service authorized dealer in your area (lists from this site). Take it in and/or call and see what they can do. I would not let it out of my hands again or at least not to the same location.
