Missing features from reinstalled PALM desktop

I had an administrator recently reinstall my PALM Tungsten E2 to my desktop (had to be removed due to ghosting of my computer).  The Docs to Go app is no longer listed under my PALM apps on the desktop (it is on my handheld, is listed seperately on my destop and info does sync).  Also my outlook is not linked to the Palm (never had it before but did check box that this time I wanted it linked).  Also I no longer can choose different colors for the categories of meetings in my date book (A feature that is invaluable when I go back to look for dates for particualr types of meetings).

Sorry, HardbeatZ - that may be the case, but I rather go for functionality over 'supported' any time.
Past experience with Desktop 6.x and a recent full restore of my Vista OS notebook to factory condition encouraged me to install my TX's Desktop 4.2 rather than 6.2.2 onto my machine.
The install went without issue (and without using Compatibility Mode) and I have regained all the conduits and Desktop views for the programs that came on my TX (including NotePad, Expense and VersaMail), I have full control over my Calendar and its settings (color-coding, Birthdays and Anniversaries) and, if I feel in a creative mood, a full range of Desktop skins. I use right click > Send to > Palm Powered Handheld to Install prc files. And the whole thing is perfectly stable (or as stable as any program is under Vista), so I guess I can live without it being 'supported'.
ACCESS has done even more than Colligan to damage the once-great Palm - and providing a Desktop that offers less functionality than past versions (albeit 'supported by Vista') is hardly any way to hold onto users - especially ones, like me, who have devices with older conduit possibilities.
If this Desktop does, sometime in the future, go unstable, it won't just be the Desktop I'll be replacing - and it most likely won't be for a Palm device.

  • How to reinstall Palm desktop for Windows without losing all my desktop data

    I use a Palm T|X and Windows XP Pro.  I was using Palm Desktop 4.x but decided to upgrade to the latest version. 6.2.2.  I have had a lot of problems since then, HotSync does not work properly with CalorieKing and Palm Desktop complains about "switching users" each time I try to open Contacts.
    I want to uninstall Palm Desktop 6.x and reinstall Palm Desktop 4.x.  I know that my data will be safe if after the new install I tell HotSYnc to have the handheld overright the deaktop.  However, what about the programs?  Will they also get transferred from the Palm back to the desktop?   Will the conduits be set up correctly for Documents to Go, CalorieKing and my other applications, or will I have to reinstall them?
    Post relates to:

    The programs are still in place, but how does the "new" copy of Palm desktop know they are there?  Also, there are copies of the programs that are installed only on the Palm but not the Windows machines in one of the Palm desktop folders that use used to restore data to the Palm T|X. How do I save that data, without having to install all those programs yet again, even though they already exist on the palm?.

    Hello DiegoK and welcome to the forums......
    I would try going into safe mode and following the instructions below.
    You should first make a copy of your data to have just in case something
    happens. You can find your data files by going to C:\Program Files\Palm or
    Palm One. Highlight your Palm Desktop username and right click and copy.
    Then go to your PC desktop, right click on a blank spot and select paste.
    Now you want to uninstall Palm Desktop and remove everything that has to do
    with Palm Desktop from your computer. Like the above folder, delete the Palm folder. Once this is done,
    you will need to delete some registry keysfrom your PC Operating System registry.
    Word of warning, going here and deleting the wrong thing can cause your PC
    to not start up, crashing and deletion of programs and data. If you feel
    you are unsure of yourself, see if you have a friend that can help you or a
    PC technician that you can pay to help you. This will show them everything
    they need to delete. To retain your current Registry settings, we need to do a backup of the Registry.
    On the PC, go to start and run type "regedit" without quotes
    Highlight MY COMPUTER, go to File --> export. Should pop up with a Save As
    box. Current location is fine should be in My Documents or you can change to a location you will remember.
     In the file name box, type "Regbackup[todaysdate]" i.e. Regbackup07072008. Next, the hard part.
    The easiest way to make sure your working with the correct key, highlight the key i.e. palm quick install,
    and press delete on your keyboard. It will ask you, are you sure. Say yes. Do the same thing for all keys below.
    If you make a mistake, stop what you are doing. And call a PC technician.
    BUT do not turn off your computer.
    The reg keys are as follows (Note: some of theses reg keys will not be here
    but if they are delete them)
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Palm Quick Install
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\PalmOne File Transfer
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm, Inc.
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmDesktopAutorun
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\palmOne
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmSource
    * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\PalmSource or anything else that says palm
    Next reboot your computer
    Then reinstall your Palm desktop from the CD and do a hotsync. If it asks
    you for a username and you synced your device before, put in 'test" if you
    did not sync before you create a hotsync name.

  • Exporting my addresses from the Palm Desktop software to my iPod

    I've been using the Palm Desktop software (version 4.2.1 for my Palm Pilot). I want to import the address book onto my iPod video. I can convert the addresses from the Palm software to a vCard file, but can't seem to get it to import to the iPod.
    Can anyone help me with this? How do I get it to the iPod?

    On your Palm Pixi browse to the Palm Application Catalog.  Type in "USB" to find the app CL USB Sync.  Install this.
    On your PC browse to http://www.companionlink.com/usbsync.  This will have a PC Program called CompanionLink for webOS USB. Download and install this on your PC.
    These two programs work together to provide full support for Palm Desktop to Palm Pixi via the MicroUSB cable that comes with Pixi.  This provides two-way backup for Contacts, Calendar, Tasks and Memos.  That means in 2-3 months, if you've added a lot of contacts and you drop your Pixi, you'll have full security knowing your contact and calendar data is backed up on your PC.   On Pixi, the Tasks and Memos have special screens within CL USB Sync app, which are similar to what Palm Desktop shows. CL USB Sync does not need Wifi and works great on Pixi.  It also supports Outlook (all versions), Lotus Notes, and Groupwise on the PC.
    You can use all of this for free for 14 days.  It's fine to use it for one-time data transfer.  Unlike the Palm Data Transfer Assistant, CompanionLink supports all versions of Palm Desktop, including Palm Desktop 2.0, 3.0, 4.1, 4.1.2 and 4.1.4, as well as all releases of Palm Desktop 6.2.  Telephone and email technical support is provided free of charge.  If you choose to use the product past 14 days it is $39.95.  Technical support remains free for the lifetime of the product.

  • A3 Keyword missing feature from A2

    Can someone help me please. One of the features I used extensively in A2 was the Keyword lookup feature which gave you a list of words that were in your master keyword list and auto completed when you started typing the word. You got this by selecting the metadata inspector and then selecting the Keywords tab at the bottom of the inspector. This lookup feature appears to be missing from A3, or at least I can't find it, nor is it listed in the manual. Has this feature been left out of A3?

  • Bridge CC Missing Features from CS6, i.e. 'Open With'

    Using CC - Windows 7, 64bit.
    First of all - I am curious as if there is a way to set additional options for the "Open With" option when Right-Clicking on an Item? For example in previous versions of Bridge, I was able to right click on a PDF that would need to be opened in Photoshop or Illustrator and select that as an option as opposed to opening in the default Acrobat Reader. In CC, I am forced to leave Bridge, go into the application, and Open the file through the system dialog box. It's a function I didn't realize how often I used until I updgraded to CC - now I am forced to go through a timely hunt for the file through the servers instead of just being able to open it via Bridge. The current options to 'Open With' are Acrobat are available, also offers Adobe Reader, and Chrome as options - but none of the necessary options.
    I realize I could drag and drop it - and at times this is appropriate - but often not.
    Is there a way to activate or achieve this?
    Secondly, and I have researched this some already but wanted to confirm - there is no way to create a PDF inside of Bridge anymore? I have installed the Output Module successfully, however the option to create the a PDF is still not there. Is this correct, or should the ability to create a mulit-page PDF be in the Output Module I installed? If so, where is it now located?
    Thanks in advance for any help!
    Best,
    Adam

    In CC, I am forced to leave Bridge, go into the application, and Open the file through the system dialog box.
    That is not normal behavior (at least on my Mac I still have all installed applications as option under this menu). By default the open with menu under the righty mouse menu should show all installed applications on your system. It sometimes even shows them double in case of attached disks with back up etc.
    This has not changed in Bridge CC. If you have those applications installed on your system at the same location as Bridge they should show.
    First try a reset of preferences for Bridge with holding down control key while restarting Bridge and choose rest preferences from the provided menu.

  • Missing Features from Z1 - Flip to Silence, Any key answer

    Hi,
    I've been using android for a bit now and have come to appreciate some subtle features available on the samsung touch wiz as well as the CM mod which are..
    1) Any key to answer a call (Volume, power, etc) so i dont have to open the flap on the phone to see the screen.
    2) Flip to silence. (Turn the phone over and it mutes the ringer and vibrator)
    These are standard android capabilities and are present in vanila android 4.0 onwards.
    If these functions are present in the latest update of the Z1, please let me know how to activate them. If not, please let me know the timeline to implement these rather simple features.
    Thanks,
    Mystic
    Don't forget to give Kudos and / or mark the correct answer.

    unfortunately it seems that you are right, it doesn't work anymore with the accelerometer I'm sure it have something to do with the update (sadly I just applied it to make sure I have the same version as you do) :/ It did work.. it doesn't now. So now we have to wait for the fix.. :/
    Anyway, it is a good app and still full of useful features. Especially useful for me with my flip cover, it locks/unlocks the screen just by opening the cover.
    I'm sorry the flip over doesn't work, I didn't know about it. It was ok before the update tho :/ I'm sure they'll fix it eventually...
    When everything have failed already, try to read the manual.
    Kudos mean I am helpful. Am I for you? Then support me back

  • Address book from Palm Desktop by Access is missing on computer!

    Please help - My address book from my Palm Desktop by access is GONE - I can find only a "address.mdb" file, but no updated .aba file - Is there a way to restore this file or find a backup? I cannot imagine how it just disappeared! I no longer use the Zire handheld as it broke, please help!
    Thank you

    If Thunderbird will accept .csv or .tab file formats you can export the data in those formats from PD. Use the following procedure to export your data.
    The best way to preserve your data is to export the data in each category in Palm Desktop to a seperate folder on your PC.
    Create a new folder on your PC somewhere that is convenient. Name it something like Palm Desktop Data. Click on the link below and follow the instructions on that page for the export procedure.
    http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=28734
    Make sure you select all for the range in the export window.
    With the data saved in the folder you created, make a copy of that folder and save to a flash drive, cd-rw or external hard drive.
    Anytime you make a change in Palm Desktop, export the data that was changed to that folder and save again to the external media.
    With this process you can always import the data back into Palm Desktop anytime you have a problem with the data in Palm Desktop or if your computer/hard drive/device crashes.

  • WOES: iSync, Palm Pilot, iCal, Missing Sync, Palm Desktop, Ericsson Phone

    Here's my situation, I've been a long time Palm user, and fairly recently (within a year) a new Mac user. I've always used the Palm Desktop on my PC in the past. I've had a Palm Vx for years, and fairly recently (within a year) I bought a Palm Zire 72 and a Sony Ericsson S170a cell phone. I also have an iPod Photo.
    I really would like to sync up my address book, calendars, memos, maybe even photos, with all my devices. I tried using iSync, but nothing seam to work right, so I tried a million things, now everything is messed up.
    For right now, I'm just trying to get my Palm Pilot, the Mac, and the Phone to have all the same calendar events (w the correect times, alarms, colors, and groups).
    I'm really frustrated with trying to get the mac's iCal, the palm pilot, the phone to all have the same calendar info. I really like iCal, and the mac address book, and how well it works with the mail app. As well as subscribing to shared iCals. Especially the holiday ones! I use to have to enter all that info by hand, and have them "other" repeater. The Palm Desktop software's calendar and address book is pretty clunky compared to the Mac apps, or even the Palm Desktop for the PC. But everything is messed up now. I even tried the "missing sync" software and it messed it up even worse.
    Several of my cal events are now GONE from iCal, my Palm Pilot, and my Phone! Many of them have duplicates, some have wrong times. Some have right groups, some don't. The ones that do have right groups, don't have any colors applied to them. If I create certain calendars on the mac and sync with the palm, the groups do not come over. If I create them on the Palm, the groups don't come over on the mac. Getting the colors/groups to match, and all 3 items to sync all at once is a nightmare as well. There were a million conflicts, and chose the correct ones, but some of them would NOT let me pick the one I wanted, it would just keep on saying "conflict".
    What would AT LEAST get me back to the original info on the Palm and the Mac would be to restore from my Palm Desktop software, but I can't get to that because it looks like the missing sync software has messed the conduit/hot sync manager up. I can no longer get to my Palm Desktop condiut settings. I'd re-install the palm software to get it back, but I will probably loose all the data stored in Palm Desktop. This is the ONLY place that has the correct info right now. I'm varry warry about loosing that information. I use to have the PC copy, and the Palm Copy, and it was all right. The Palm Desktop has an import/export feature, but it doesn't seam to carry all the info (like notes attatched to cal events).
    Also, has anyone tried to RESTORE a Palm Pilot not using the Palm Desktop software? When I had to reset my Palm, I tried using iSync or even missing sync to get all my apps, settings, calendars, address books, everything, but it never put the info back on the Palm. This info was always restored with Palm Desktop.
    And let's just say I DO get back all my calendar items back into the Palm, and the Palm Desktop software up and running correctly. What is the proper way to do what I was trying to do in the begining? Which was "just have my Palm Pilot, the Mac, and the Phone to have all the same calendar events (w the right times, alarms, colors, and groups)." I don't seam to have too many problems with contacts. Except work/home fields seam to swap all the time.
    What I'm running:
    G4 PowerMac w/ Mac OS X Tiger (10.4.3)
    Palm Pilot Zire 72s (Palm Software v5.2.8)
    Missing Sync (v5.0.3)
    Palm Desktop Mac (v4.2.1)
    Sony Ericsson S170a Cell Phone
    iPod Photo 60GB
    G4 PowerMac   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   Palm Pilot Zire 72s (Palm Software v5.2.8), Missing Sync (v5.0.3), Palm Desktop Mac (v4.2.1), Sony

    Where to start? Maybe with some background about the synchronization process.
    What Apple hasn't explained outside of the developer community is that you are not actually synchronizing applications [like iCal or the Address Book] or servers [like .Mac] or devices [like your mobile handset or a Palm organizer] when you initiate a synchronization. What you are really doing is triggering an interaction with one or more of these and the SyncServices engine, which maintains what is termed the 'truth database'—or simply, the 'truth'—to which is pushed, or from which is pulled, the current state of data maintained in fields and records for one or more specific data types. Because of the way this process works, it is not necessary to have all synchronized devices available or attached when a synchronization event occurs.
    You can synchronize your SONY Ericsson S710a, a process which exchanges the most current data maintained in the truth with it, and hours later, plug in your iPod, an action which will trigger iTunes to pull the latest data from the truth and write it to the iPod, updating your contact and calendaring records. The same is true for other applications, servers and devices.
    While it all seems clumsy and confusing, it is actually a huge step forward in making synchronization nearly automatic, almost transparent, and virtually mistake proof. It's clear that there is some distance to go before those objectives are achieved, but SyncServices is actually a huge improvement over the prior synchronization technology in iSync 1.5 and earlier.
    That said, there are bugs in SyncServices, and in the applications written by several developers to take advantage of it, along with issues in at least iCal, and probably the Address Book, that complicate what you are trying to achieve. It's possible to do, and once working, should work nearly flawlessly. But, it takes some planning to get there.
    First, a word about backing up your data. It's a good idea to periodically back up contact and calendaring records using the facilities built into iCal and the Address Book which appear in the File menu of each application. These options make easily restorable local snapshots of your data. Should something go terribly wrong with a synchronization event, you can immediately restore your iCal or Address Book data from these files. In addition, it's a good idea to have a more comprehensive backup plan in place, using Backup and .Mac, Backup and rewritable media, and so on.
    To synchronize photos, music and other media files, you'll need to use the Missing Sync for Palm OS. iSync just does not support anything beyond contact, calendaring and task data. To begin the process, you should simplify your device pool, initially concentrating only on getting a complete, accurate set of contact, event and task records pushed to the truth from the Address Book and iCal, and onto your Palm.
    You will have to take an inventory of where the best records reside, and insure that you get them into iCal and the Address Book before attempting to synchronize your Palm, because to do it properly, initially, you will have to overwrite the data on your Palm, replacing it with records from iCal and the Address Book. If you're going to edit them by making additions, changes and deletions, perform all of those in iCal and the Address Book until you have synchronized your Palm device or devices with them. Backup before performing the initial synchronization, and be sure to overwrite each Palm device the first time.
    If you want a historic snapshot of the data on either Palm device before doing this, first follow the instructions provided by Mark/Space to use the standard Palm conduits instead of Mark/Space Contacts, Events and Tasks, and be sure to set each Palm conduit to Palm overwrites handheld in order to transfer the data from your Palm Vx and Zire 72 to the Palm Desktop. Once there, those records can be exported as vCard and vCal files, and easily imported into the Address Book and iCal if you wish to do that. Edit them as you see fit, once they have been transfered. If you elect to do that, you must thereafter turn off these Palm conduits and reconfigure the Missing Sync to use the Mark/Space conduits, again choosing to have your computer replace the contents on each Palm device on the first synchronization.
    Once you've achieved a 'balance' with the records in iCal, the Address Book and your handheld organizers, you can reset the records on your mobile handset. iSync alone performs this function, and later synchronization events with your SONY Ericsson S710a will always be manually triggered, and performed using iSync, not the Missing Sync. Reset once, and subsequently synchronize.
    Anything else you want to add to the mix—.Mac Sync, for example—you can then add, initially performing a reset of your .Mac data, then subsequently synchronizing.
    Synchronization of your iPod is handled by iTunes and only pulls data from the truth, so it need not be reset, as it cannot write changes to the truth which would adversely affect your other devices.

  • Restore Palm Desktop Addresses from last Hot Sync and using those backup files

    I have numerous issues.  First I have Windows Vista 64 byte which does not allow a USB Hot Sync so I attempted the Wireless Hot Sync and killed my Palm Centro.  The information was restores going to the store and they did something.  So that is my first issues - I am unable to Hot Sync.  However the Hot Sync took place and I have found the 'Back-up' files on my Computer from that Hot Sync Operation.
    My new issue is that somehow I lost many addresses on my Palm Desktop Address File and that is a mystery to me.
    What I am trying to accomplish now is to restore those missing addresses on my Palm Desktop (Computer Files) using if possible those backed up files from the last Hot Sync as i do not believe I should try the Wireless Hot Sync again since that has failed me twice and my phone dies and it needs to be restored at the Sprint store.  I'm not even sure I remember now how exactly that was done....
    So, is there a way to restore addresses to my computer Palm Desktop from those back-up files from the Hot Sync?  OR does anyone have a solution to actually performing this Wireless Hot Sync without killing  my Palm Centro again?
    Thank you for any ideas or suggestions to either or both issues.

    Post relates to: Centro (Sprint)

    You can recover the data from your user folder provided you have only sync'ed once with the PC when you discovered the data missing. When you sync to the PC there are files created for each PIM category in your user folder. For Example; datebook.dat or datebook (Depending on the version of Palm Desktop) and datebook.bak. Using 6.2 the file names are .mdb and mdb.bak. For 6.2, the files are located in the username folder in PalmOSdesktop in my documents.
    The files are named .dat and .bak. When you sync, the current data is stored in .dat. The next time you sync the data in the .dat file is copied to the .bak file. You can rename the .dat to .old. then rename the .bak to .dat. If the data in the .bak file is intact, it will now be in palm desktop when you reopen Palm desktop. I have included a link to show you how to find the userfolder on the PC.

    Here is another link regarding data loss;
    http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=39503
    The best way to backup your data is to use the export feature in Palm Desktop. Make a new folder on the PC desktop named Palm Desktop Backup data. Next, select the category you want to export. You will get a window that asks where you want to save the file, save in the folder created on the desktop. There is a button that allows you to select currently selected record or all, select all. If you don't select all, then only the record highlighted is exported. You will then need to name the file for export, I suggest the name of the category, eg: datebook (With current date). Do this for all critical data in each category. With the data exported to the folder on the PC desktop, you can save this data to a flash drive, external hard drive or a CD-RW. With this method you will have your data in a seperate place than Palm desktop and the device. If you "Lose" data again, you can import the data back into palm desktop.
    Make sure that when you make changes in palm desktop or the device to export the data to the folder created for the backup.

  • Device Switch from Palm Desktop 4.1.4 to BB Desktop 4.6.0.13 hangs - no data

    I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the BB Desktop Software (downloaded a version from October from AT&T website). When I try to move my data from my Palm Desktop software v 4.1.4 to BB Desktop, it processes 6096 calendar entries out of 6395 and hangs. No data is transferred to the BB. Any suggestions? I could live with not transferring any calendar data - I need to get my contacts over and can't do that.

  • How do I easily transfer data from Palm Desktop to iCal and Address Book?

    Hello,
    How do I easily transfer data from Palm Desktop to iCal and Address Book?
    I have a Palm Tungsten E handheld which just died.
    Luckily, all my data is backed-up on my Palm Desktop V4.2.1.
    I just bought an iPod-Touch, so I would like to easily transfer
    all my data (Addressbook, Calendar, etc) from the Palm Desktop
    on my Mac (OSX 10.5) to the equivalent Mac applications
    (Address Book, iCal) which will then allow me to view and update
    them on my iPod-Touch.
    How do I easily transfer data from Palm Desktop to iCal and Address Book?
    Thanks in advance for your help.
    David

    Hi David. The contact information is straightforward. Bring up your Address List in Palm Desktop, then select Export under file. You pick vCard as the format, and save the resulting file where ever. In Address Book, you then select Import --> vCards under file. You may need to edit things like birthdays by hand afterwards.
    I am still working on the Calendar information.

  • Apps tab missing from Creative Cloud Desktop

    Hello and thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
    I'm running Creative Cloud on Mac OS 10.9.5. A couple days ago I updated several of the apps through the Creative Cloud Desktop app in the menu bar. The apps updated and they all seem to run fine, but now the Apps tab is missing altogether from the CC Desktop Window, and it's even missing from the CC Desktop preferences. (Please see the screenshots.) Also, when I click on the "Install Adobe Apps" button in the CC Desktop window, nothing happens.
    I've un-installed -> re-downloaded -> re-installed CC Desktop several times, along with trying some of the other troubleshooting suggestions I've found here on the Adobe site, such as:
    restarting the computer
    logging out of CC Desktop then back in again
    deleting the opm.db file
    deleting the CoreSync folder
    deleting the AdobeAAMDetect plugin
    Nothing seems to fix it. As I mentioned, the applications all seem to running fine, but I'd like to know that CC Desktop is functioning as intended and keeping me up to date. Any other suggestions?
    Thanks again...

    I had this issue. And went through to chat with customer support. I have my apps panel once again. Transcript is below if you want to follow what I did.

  • DEvice Switch Wizard transferring from Palm Desktop

    I just got my Blackberry 9700 replacing my previous Palm 755. When I first used the Device Switch Wizard form the Blackberry Desktop Manager I was able to transfer all the data from my Palm Desktop to my Blackberry. I performed this for about four times as I modified my contact list. Now it aborts the transfer and receive a message saying:
    "Desktop organizer data was not imported successfully. Errors occurred during the process"
    I have since removed the Blackberry Desktop Manager software completely and reloaded - no result. I upgraded the Desktop Manager with automatic update - no result.
    Desperately need help on resolving this.

    Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
    Typically, you'd want to do that action just once...to initially get your data over to your BB. After which you'd want to use a different (and compatible) PIM to manage the data on your PC. I'm thinking that perhaps you should do that -- or perhaps, given the error, move your data from your Palm PIM to a compatible PIM:
    KB12268 Applications supported by BlackBerry Desktop Manager for synchronization
    And then configure for synchronization:
