  • Making a call with OVI Suite

With PC-Suite and a 6120c hooked via usb i could make a call from the contact list, and i could receive notifications about incoming call. I don't seem to find the same feature in Ovi Suite. It is just me or is it missing?

Yes, that rite. That feature is not there in Ovi Suite anymore... However it seems that PC Suite version 7.1.30.9 might support N8 device. I heard from one of my friends that even 7.1.51.0 the latest also works with their N8.

  • Fine tunning the new Nokia Ovi suite 2.0.2.42

    Hi,
I just installed Nokia Ovi suite and have configured some settings but the followings are either not available or can't be configured:
SMS , call and battery notifications are missing as compared to Nokia PC Suite
Calendar cannot be viewed , I can only see (contacts , photos , messaging and Music) on the home screen
Device backup time cannot be set
Sync period with MS Outlook cannot be set
Calendar items that are older than 4 weeks cannot be synced
Under tools - options - device sync , I didn't select the message folder to be synced but the software has already synced SMS messages between the phone and computer! I didn't want to do that
Cannot create MMS message as opposed to Nokia PC Suite
In short the interface is cool but there are many features that are available in Nokia PC suite that are missing from Nokia Ovi suite
Any fix to any of the above issues would be appreciated

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to make calls from the Ovi Suite when the phone is connected by USB like on Nokia PC Suite.
This was a really useful ap and is sadly missing from the Ovi Suite, it was one of the features that made me buy another Nokia

  • PC Suite vs.Ovi Suite for Syncing N900

I am coming from Blackberry with no Nokia experience whatsoever. I am running Windows 7 and Outlook 2007.  I am used to a 2 way – or 1 way sync for my Blackberry – because really both are needed.  I have read that PC Suite has more features than Ovi Suite for sync.  That they “dumbed down” Ovi Suite and it only has 2 way capability.
The N900 is coming… I ordered it tonight.  What is really the best software to sync my Outlook 2007 contacts (and possibly calendar) although I have read Outlook Calendar may not be possible..??..
Thanks – I would hate to install what might not be the best software to sync this phone… I am hoping to avoid any rough patches if at all possible.

I agree that it is annoying that the full support is not there yet but for me that is far more preferable than having had to wait until that end of it was sewn up entirely for the phone to be released.
There's enough there between the phone andPC Suite to cover more than jusrt the bare essentials and it gives us something to look fotward to
True.  And this phone is so capable computer software to do "things" isn't as relevant.  I haven't even had to do a  battery pull  or restart it.  It is an amazing device for sure.
Also, I did test "copying and pasting" the converted music files from the Blackberry media card to the internal memoy of the N900 and it worked flawlessly!  Even the album art work made it.  I still may check out Double Twist, but at least this way if "free."

  • File manager missing in Ovi suite

I just bought E7-00 after my E90 and I was really surprised that file manager was missing in Ovi suite. This means I cannot transfer single files between PC and mobile phone. Difficult to use backup copies are not enough. Fortunately file manager still exists in old familiar PC suite, which works with E7-00 in spite of that Nokia says it is not meant for this device. I consider it stupid that I have to jump between two suites. It takes much time in vain. I wait that the next version of Ovi suite works better. Please, don't say that file manager is not needed!

    @thecat2
Could you please confirm what type of sms are not getting synced?
    1. Operator SMS/ MMS?
    2. sms from any particular numbers

  • Ovi Suite, please list features you want.

Well, actually I posted a few new features I want for the next version of Ovi Suite in the Nokia BetaLabs suggestion site. Most people seem to find this place more, accessible, so I was wondering if maybe I could just incorporate your "wants" into my own letter. Of course bugs are a different story, since I am composing a feature request. If you need bug reports, I'll make another thread.
Basically what I sent already are:
    1. Give Ovi Suite it's own calendar. I would understand if you guys have trouble making the suite sync the phone with different calendar applications like Outlook and others (MS is not Nokia, so...), but what if there was a function in the Ovi Suite itself that syncs with Outlook, making an "Ovi Calendar" function, and that would be the one to sync into the phone?
    2. Ovi Suite should be able to access Ovi Store. It is pretty tedious to send links to the phone when using Ovi Store on the PC. Why not just let Ovi Suite be a direct link to Ovi Store to install into the phone the apps we want? Not all people have access to mobile internet. I do, but I find using the phone for mobile downloads and installations tedious as the phone does have its own limitations.
    3. Ovi suite should also be able to keep a library of installer of apps we download through the store, or extract apps we have on the phone. There are times that we may have to do resets and reformats of our phone, and it is tedious to redownload everything again.
If you find my post helpful please click the green star on the left under the avatar. Thanks.

    1. Private messages, photos, and contacts being flaunted for all to see. Get away from this poorly poorly poorly thought out interface.
    2. Start up splash screen up for a minute if OVI has trouble signing in.  Make OVI start up fast!  Give us control over the time-out times.
    3. Exceedingly long timeouts on updates if server not found (and timeouts in general, and not being able to do anything else while waiting) - get them into check.
    4. Newly sent messages do not show in conversations once sent *from OVI itself*.  You have to sync first. I mean, come on!
    5. Descent reports on sync - not just the recent changes!  Where do I adjust what OVI considers recent?  What about from the last sync?
    6. Software slow in general - option to turn off the animation of the interface and skip to the end result?  I don't want pretty, I want WORKING.
    7. On sync, certain contacts' messages displayed as sent by phone number, not the contact (possibly contact recently changed), but all is well after reboot (possibly)
    8. We want to select the outlook folders we want to sync with - /t5/Nokia-Ovi-Suite/OVI-Suite-and-PC-Suite-What-about-professional-environments/td-p/575256
I recall a previous OVI sync that reported a list of changes when syncing contacts.  This showed the old contact information and what it changed it to.  It was also a whole lot more configurable as to what folders in Outlook it should sync with.  This could be used to maintain a different outlook folder of contacts you want to sync to your phone.  This seems to be gone now.
OVI tries to sign into Nokia on startup, so if there is a net connection available, it will hang in the startup splash screen until it times out (that takes up to 60 seconds).  With the entry level computer being ten times as powerful as the UK weather supercomputer of ten years ago, one would think that a big company like Nokia could write something a little more responsive?  I'm pretty sure Nokia's drive is to stay current with Visual Studio 2010 and .net framework 3.5, but that tendency has lead to the complete downfall of most.  Just keep to what works in old code until you have thoroughly tested the new platform internally to the company!
I don't even know why I raise my voice here because everyone knows we are all beta testers for the big companies.  Except, most users don't have the patience to come here and plead for better software, so it's up to the few masochists that we are to shout to the giant and hope we are heard - all in vain.
At least I got a response from Nokia (saylinen) from the last one, inquiring about my issue with OVI displaying messages with phone numbers only.
The messages displayed the right senders from the contacts list after a reboot.  But I'm not prepared to reboot after a sync just to help OVI get back on track!  The minute wait in the splash screen on startup if OVI can't sign in?  Private messages and photos being flaunted all over your screen in the OVI "home" interface?  It's ridiculous!
I've read a problem from another user that contacts are lost when syncing?  If you follow my post, mail me, I want to list your problem and shout to the bad giant called Nokia.
Nokia, none of us are happy with what you are doing with the software.  We want a little 4 megabyte or so app, that launches in less than 100 ms, and instantly shows everything we can access from the phone, on our PCs, IF we drill into it.  Why not show a tree starting with contacts, messages, photos, videos, and music, and when we drill down to them we can see filenames, creation dates, last accessed dates, and size?
And while things are idle, why not use the idle time (if option selected in options) to start syncing?  Transfer the newest stuff first!  And do it to a buffer directory, so it's all local on our PCs when we choose to update?  OR auto update IF the option is selected?  Give us options!
But first and foremost, give us access that's fast and responsive?
The idea of separating it into phone and computer is also good.  But make the phone alive!  If we browse the phone, we want to see what's on there NOW.  Not since the last time we pressed sync!
Come on guys, you've had a few years of writing phone software by now.  It's time to start getting it right!
Found the same request for outlook folder selection in this thread: /t5/Nokia-Ovi-Suite/OVI-Suite-and-PC-Suite-What-about-professional-environments/td-p/575256

  • Ovi Suite Update Features not fully functional

When updating Ovi Suite to 3.1.1.80, it is stated that you will be able to directly downoad Free Apps and Games from the Suite itself and OVI Store directly to your connected device. One Prpblem, You can only download Apps that are on the OVI Suite homescreen, when you view more from the Store, it still uses the old method and sends an SMS to your phone.

Tech News - July 23 Nokia chief talks about future and losses
NOKIA chief executive Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo has urged an end to speculation surrounding his future at the company.
The call came as the world's largest mobile phone maker said its second-quarter profit fell 40 per cent.
Nokia had warned investors last month to expect poor results.
The company has been hurt by its failure to compete effectively in the market for high-end smartphones against iPhone maker Apple and devices based on Google software.
That shortcoming may cost Mr Kallasvuo his job.

    Correct.

    Thanks for Your efforts here.
One more thing about the issue with ()
It might be phone related. SMS from Phone is also not working to those number. No "Sacking" needed from the Ovi Team... Sorry.
Regarding other issues: Glad You don't have those.
Specially the quick search not working from time to time. Looks like some people do, other don't. You should go ahead and check forums for E-series and read some more about them.
My main issue is the Contact related issues.
The "missing features" I believe You are missing as well...
Surely your search does not handle "Save As" name or include company in quick search (that's from the home screen)?
Lets say you want to call the Helpdesk on Nokia. In outlook this contact is entered with the fields Function/Title=Helpdesk, Company=Nokia. It is saved as "Helpdesk, Nokia" or "Nokia Helpdesk" etc as display name. I don't believe that regular business users 2010 still saves this as Firstname=Helpdesk and Lastname "Nokia" to comply with their phones quick search.
On my HTC when entering "Nok" or "Hel" this contact entry immediately would be displayed from standby mode. In E72 not.
Same regarding categories: Does Your E72 calendar really handle categories other then Nokia standard?
Here's some reading regarding Maps issues with voices.... I've today installed 3.04 Beta and the issue persists.
Really: I haven't got any Hocus-Pocus software on my E72. I'm using MfE for syncing contacts/calendar/tasks. Ovi Suite for syncing Notes. Ovi maps for GPS.
I've resetted a couple of times, both hard and soft resets. No change.
In my opinion I'm using my E72 as any other of my customers would do. Of course I'm not recommending this phone for the moment.
In fact chance of even buying a new Nokia is miles out of sight. To much important missing, to much important not working efficiently.
Lets hope a update addresses this.

  • Ovi suite won't sync with N82

Hi, hoping someone can help here.
I've never been able to sync my photos etc between my N82 (V20.0.062) with ovi Suite.  PC Suite works just fine, it syncs my calender, photos & videos etc without any issues at all but not Ovi.  Am I missing something?  I really want to use the new features in Photos such as the timeline etc but it just won't let me darn it!
Thanks for reading this, please help!
    Ozzy

    Hi,
The firmware is V20.0.062 & it's the latest version of Ovi suite downloaded yesterday.  It recognises the phone as it shows me what photos are in my phone's gallery, it just won't sync.   Doesn't even think about it, just straight away pops up with sync cancelled.  Soooooo frustrating.
Is it because it's not the V3.0 firmware do you think?  I'm loathe to update as my phone is working just fine and these things never go smoothly when there's lots of third party apps involved....

  • Ovi Suite Criticisms

    Hey All:
I signed up just to air my own criticisms of Ovi Suite, and let those from Nokia that are watching this forum know why it has been uninstalled on all of my machines for the features of PC Suite. I have seen some of these issues on other topics, but hopefully I'll raise some new ones for you to look at fixing in future versions. For the record, I run either Windows 7 or Windows Vista (all 64-bit), and have both a Nokia 6265i (rarely used, CDMA) and a 5310 XPressMusic (GSM) that I use constantly.
    1. Text Message Management - I like that you tried to at least inject the conversations features that smartphones have. My problem is that it rarely if ever allows me to manage the messages on the phone. If I've read it on the computer, the phone should mark it read (as Message Manager did in PC Suite). If I delete it, I want it gone from the phone as well. These features seem to work sporadically at best, not at all at worst, and is by far the main reason why I use these. My phones are dumbphones, and the ability to  type a quick text without disrupting my work on my computers at any given time is what made me fall in love with PC Suite originally.
    2. Clunky, MASSIVE interface - It looks BETTER than PC Suite, But Ovi has the feeling of being bloated. The software should customize itself to the features supported by the phone. I can't use maps with either phone, and there will never be another firmware upgrade for these two obsolete phones (particularly the 6265), so why do I have so much screen real estate devoted to useless features? Even more, I choose not to use calendar sync, so please let me remove that as well. PC Suite was just barely tolerable (though I still drug it half way off my screen to use only the features that I wanted); Ovi is a huge waste of space. I know you want to sell more smartphones, but frankly I'd rather simply cease using Ovi than have it beat into my head that Nokia has added all sorts of new features to phones
    3. Automatic Pop-Up when I come within Bluetooth Range - Really, this is just a handy reminder of the fact that I want to shut the software down rather than a helpful feature. If it's hiding in the background, let Ovi do its work in the background - it doesn't have to pop into the foreground just because I've come back. It's a resource hog AND an attention hog - please kill off one of those (if not both)
    4. Call Notifications - Most HELPFUL feature of PC Suite was/is the notification when somebody's calling. When I'm in a meeting/lecture/working and my phone is on vibrate in the drawer, having the name of the caller and the basic options pop up was a WONDERFUL, and sorely missed feature. PLEASE bring this back into Ovi suite, even if these other features don't get implemented. Truly: Until then, PC Suite will be the ONLY choice, even with the lack of updates. While you're working on this, don't forget the ability to dial the phone from the computer (so that if the Bluetooth Headset is handy, I can simply pop it in rather than have to reach for both), like was in PC Suite.
FINALLY, 5. Windows 7 Interactions - I was willing to upgrade in the hopes that it would use jumplists, and maybe this is incoming, but it was a real disappointment to find that these haven't even been implemented. This type of suite is IDEAL for jumplist use, as it contains so many different features. It would be REALLY handy to be able to single out my message management tab when it's pinned to the taskbar. As it stands, Win7's desire to hide all system tray icons makes it far too many clicks to access the little pest, and the above reasons mean that I'd rather override the hidden icon for PC Suite than Ovi. If Ovi is supposed to be the new future of PC-Phone interconnectivity, throw something in that makes it feel more like a native Win7 program.
I hope that someone from the development reads these, and that these concerns are brought into the process. Nokia has proven to be an industry leader in these types of software, and while I appreciate where the software is trying to go, the latest incarnation seems to be a giant step backwards from the old software. Thanks for your time.
    --Databoy2k

Hey guys, i found a solution.
I'm using HP pavilion dv6 (can't remember the full specs though).
I also use Ralink_Motorola_BC4_Bluetooth_3.0HS_C1.100 but the problem is Nokia ovi suite greys out the bluetooth connect or whatever which most of you are facing.
I fixed my problem by doing the following steps:
    1) Uninstall Ralink bluetooth software(And then Reboot if required)
    2) Turn off all your wireless devices and then turn all your wireless devices back on. (OR just go to HP wireless assistant and click on Turn all off and then click on Turn all on).
    3) By now your bluetooth driver should automatically install itself, this is not your Ralink bluetooth driver. This is just your basic bluetooth driver so that you can receive and send files.
    4) Now go back to Nokia Ovi suite and do what you have to do to create a connection. There you won't see that connect with bluetooth greyed out like most see that.
This worked for me. Honestly i liked the Ralink better than some odd generic driver. If Nokia doesn't release any Ovi suite version to fix this issue, this is the only solution available(unless you want to change your bluetooth driver to another software like Toshiba bluetooth stack for non-toshiba notebooks).
I told Nokia(ask) more than 6 months ago about this issue and those liers promised me that they will release a version that will fix this issue. Till now they've released allot of ovi suite versions and non of them fixed the issue.
Let me know if it worked i'll appreciate it.

  • Ovi Suite (Codecs) / k-lite etc and Windows Media ...

I was using K-Lite codec pack, Cyberlink Power DVD 10 and Divx Plus player in my PC (Win XP SP3 and WMP 11) until I get a nokia phone I was able to play mp4 videos (regular and also 1080p and 720p) in Windows media player and all other players. (Haali Splitter inside k-lite codec pack was preferred filter.)
FFDSHOW video were manually set merit unlikely...
So by my choice H.264 codec preference of me were Cyberlink 10 or Divx H.264...
And I installed latest ovi suite 2.2.1.23 and it installed own filters by default. (inside k-lite codec tweak tool it says unknown third party filter ......)
It's selecting Nokia & Emuzed codecs for playing videos. standard definition mp4's and also smaller ones working without problems in windows media player (and media player classic) but not 720p and 1080p videos (they're playing only audio- and before that giving an error) (When I selected internal filters in media player classic 720p and 1080p videos are working in mpc)

But this time when I add a video (only mp4- avi's work fine) to nokia ovi suite's (or nokia photos) library, the video not appearing in library. (it's actually in database but not showing) Until uninstalling-reinstalling ovi suite and deleting C:\Documents and Settings\"MYUSERNAME"\Local Settings\Application Data\Nokia I cannot add any mp4 video to library.
so I have just two option
1- Use external media players only (like mpc, gom player, power DVD) and not opening mp4's in WMP
2- Not using all features of nokia ovi suite... (not being able to send mp4/avc videos to directly from ovi suite & also from phone to PC ovi suite library)

After installing OviSuite3.x on Windows7 it broke all mp4 files. OviSuite installed several Emuzed* filters. Most mp4 files no longer worked, video stuttering and/or audio missing.
Setting a merit "Do not Use" for all Emuzed* filters did not help, players still was given EmuzedMP4 source filter by DirectShow pipeline.
Then sort of disabling it by adding ":" character to the start of CLSID id in a registry did not help. This is a trick what InstalledCodec.exe does when choosing "Disable filter" but was not working for me.
Finally made it work, uninstall one codec and now all mp4 files are handled by HaaliSplitter and ffdshow codecs.
    - open  dos prompt as an administrator user
    - cd "c:\program files(x86)\common files\nokia\codecs"
    - regsvr32.exe /u emzmp4source.dll
You can open a dos prompt in admin mode
    - click winmenu icon in a desktop bottom left corner
    - type in the command to run "cmd"
    - press CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER and application is run with an admin privileges
Nokia please do not mess with MP4 codecs, thank you.

  • Ovi Suite doesn't have an application installer?

    Hello :-)
when i used the PC Suite, i could double click a sis or jar file on my pc and if my phone was connected via bluetooth, the installer was automatically transfered to the phone and the installation started. since i installed the new ovi suite this behaviour is missing?! is this feature coming later?

If you mean by the new Ovi Suite i.e Ovi Suite 2 then yes there is no app installer, I installed it a couple of hours ago, it's sleek and nice but then I realized that it didn't have the app installer so I downgraded to my previous Ovi. It's a beta version so may be they'll include it later, I have no idea, but without the app installer Ovi Suite = Epic Fail

I'm replying quite late on this thread. It's quite possible that you would have already gotten your answer by now. But even then I suppose some comments won't do any harm.
The feature of custom labels for Contact details is really a feature directly dependent on the capability of the Nokia Phone model you are using. E.g.. My old Nokia N73 had this feature, however, my Nokia E7-00 does not.
Although I miss this feature of custom contact labels, I believe that this feature does not conform to the global contact schemas standards. And perhaps that's why it may have been discontinued even in the supporting software like PC Suite or the Ovi Suite Applications.
    Hope this helps!
    Cheers,
