Missing field when printing labels with Address Book

I am would like to print the labels for my clients Christmas Cards, using AddressBook. When doing print > label, I get all their names and addresses on the labal formt that I want but the company name is missing. How do I get AddressBook to include the field "company" into the label ?
Thanks for help.

If you need to include the company's and individual's name, here's a work-around:
1) for each such card, you put the individual's name and leave the Company field empty.
2) Put the company name in the field for "Street"
3) Put the street address, including Apt. # in the field for "City"
4) Now, put the City, State, and Postal Code all in one field: the field for "Country".
5) save the card.
When printing labels, proceed as follows:
1) Print>File>choose your Avery label under "Layout" and then click "Label."
2) Here, you make sure to check the box so it will "Print country." Don't forget this step, or the whole plan is a failure.
This works, but it only works if the card is in-putted as described above. It won't work if your cards are already set-up with the "company" field and the "name" field.

  • Printing labels from Address Book

    Hi there,
I have tried to print labels from Address Book using the provided template within the application.
The probem however, is that if I want to print a number of labels, say for myself, I can not seem to specify how may labels to print with a selected address.
As well, if I print one label from the application, I do not see a way to tell the printer or the application to use the next field of the label sheets.
Am I missing something completly obvious or is it an oversight in the Application?
    Thanks in advance

    Jim,
I think I understand your question. Hopefully this will help you with at least one of your problems. In order to print out address labels for just your name and address, you'll have to duplicate your personal address card several times. I duplicated mine 29 more times so that I could print out 30 sticky labels. Here's what I'd suggest:
    1. Create a new group in the far left side of your Address Book window by clicking once on the "+" button found at the bottom of the Group column, and then title your new group something like "My Return Labels."
    2. Locate your main personal card in the "All" group, and then slide it (or add it) to your newly created group.
    3. Highlight your card from within your new "My Return Labels" group, copy and paste it about 29 times.
    4. Once done, make sure you have just your "My Return Labels" group highlighted, then go to your Print command.
    5. Choose the proper label style, and print away.
    Good luck, Grampa Doodie.

  • Can't Select Label Print Location With Address Book 3.1.2

When printing a single address from Address book 3.1.2 on a sheet of mailing labels such as an Avery 5163, the print dialog box puts the address in the upper left hand position and YOU CANT CHANGE THIS. If you've already used several labels from this sheet, you need a way to change the address print position and THERE'S NO WAY TO DO THIS. THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS! My old TouchBase program FROM 1992 allows this easily and will print a return address on the same label as well! Jeez, who's designing these things??????
Does anybody know of some third party developer who has figured out a way to fix this?

I have used "Imprint" to solve this and other problems with printing labels and envelopes from Address Book.

  • Print Labels in Address Book - 'portrait/landscape' option?

I need to print labels "sideways" due to custom label loading in my printer.
I have tried setting up a custom label layout in Address Book. However, it consistently prints the labels such that the text is horizontal to the printer feed. I need it to print the text vertical to the printer feed, basically rotated 90º.
If I wanted to rotate text printed from Pages or Word I would switch from portrait to landscape or vice-versa. Is there no way to do this in Address Book? Am I overlooking one of the custom settings? Thank you!

    Great news so far, thanks!

  • Printing labels with no address

    this is driving me mad.
anyone any idea how to print a load of address labels for people who don't have addresses?
ie people who i will actually see and can actually give them their christmas cards.
i thought i was being organised by creating a little christmas card group in address book. but it only wants to print out the ones of people whose addresses i know. this is very annoying. why can't i do it?
i suppose i could just write xxxx in the address field and then i guess it would print. but do people want to be given a card that says, "sally smith, xxxx" ???!!!?
maybe i'll just put "happy christmas" in the address field. will that work?
ok, maybe i've solved my own problem here. but there must be a better way of doing it ...
    any ideas.
    thanks.

I've found no way to do this from address book. Printing labels from address book is just simple list style printing ** fill the sheet with names and print. I see no way to insert blank information like I use to do in Clairworks in order to skip rows and columns. If you need to repeat names or print only certain columns and rows, then you would need to do that from another program. I have no recomendations since I haven't used any, but I'm sure there are many out there and probably a lot that are free to download.
What I do is print out full sheets of mailing labels on the ones I used repeatedly, such as my return address, electric bill, water bill, etc. I used appleworks in the past, but now it no longer works under Lion, so I will have to make new sheets, probably from Word.
For all others addresses that are not used frequently, I've resorted to just running my envelopes throught the printer.

  • Printing labels with partner

    Hi there,
Is it possible to print labels through address book that include the partner information? For example if my address card reads:
    Joe Blogs
    Partner: Jane Doe
    9 Street Name
    Suburb, State, Postcode
Can I get a label to print:
    Joe Blogs and Jane Doe
    9 Street Name
    Suburb, State, Postcode
    Thanks!
    ibook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Olivia, I looked at your question again.
The answer is simply yes. it will print a label exactly as you want it to.
...that is if I correctly understood what you had created in your card...that in the Menu bar, under "Card," you selected "Add Field," and that from that drop down menu, you selected "Related Names." You then turned to the card itself, which likely showed the field of "Friend." You clicked on "Friend" and from that drop down menu chose "Partner" and entered" Jane Doe" ... if you did, then you're all set.
If that is where your Partner line comes from, then when you print (selecting label, of course), it will print a label as
    Joe Blogs and Jane Doe.
(You can confirm that you have it right by clicking on Preview in the Print dialog and you will see your label as it will be printed)

  • Print Mailing Labels from Address Book

After following the convoluted rules for Address Book, I finally got my Leopard computer to print Mailing Labels with proper relationships displayed. I upgraded to Snow Leopard and now this is all broken again.
I read http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3952 which describes the changes made to Snow Leopard, however for anyone who already put in a lot of work to get labels working correctly for Leopard (or Tiger), this is a major set back.
Not only that, the Snow Leopard method for printing labels breaks so many other uses of Address Book. I will name a few:
    iPhone:
I sync my address book with my iPhone. My buddy calls, now instead of "Bob Smith" displayed on my iPhone, I will see "Bob & Jean Smith" even though the call is from Bob's cell phone....all because I followed the new 10.6 rules to get proper labels printed by 'hacking' the first name field and changing "Bob" to "Bob & Jean".
    Mail:
When I receive and email from Bob, instead of it saying "Bob Smith <[email protected]>" it will display: "Bob & Jean Smith <[email protected]>"
I'm sure there are other examples of how this change will break other apps.
    Solution:
Apple should add a Print option to Address Book with a backwards compatibility checkbox that will include relationships with matching addresses to support 10.4 - 10.5.8 address book printing usage.
If you agree that Apple should add this Print option to add back support for relationship printing, add your voice to this thread, as well as post a bug report to Apple with similar contents.

A vote here for a checkbox in preferences to "include related names," allowing for 10.5 style behavior.

  • Printing Mailing Labels from Address Book

Stupid question, but one that is driving me crazy.
How do you print a sheet of mailing labels from Address Book but when the entire sheet of labels is the SAME label?
I can print labels successfully in address book, can select the label type and number, etc.
However, when I select a single contact, I can't find a way to print up an entire sheet of labels (e.g. 14) of all the same contact - it only prints one label of the single contact.
Please help! I know it must be a simple fix but can't find it anywhere to select as an option.

OK, weird that this morning (one day after you posted this question) I had the same question. I just want to print some return address labels for my own company. While I haven't been able to find a software based way to do it, I did think up a workable (if a bit ridiculous) hack. Copy the address you want to fill the sheet of labels with however many times there are labels on the sheet and select those however many copies and click print! I created 30 copies of my own company's address in Address Book, selected them, and printed a sheet of labels without problem. A bit dumb, but it works!
    Hope that helps.

  • How do I print a page of return labels in Address Book?

How do I print a page of return labels in Address Book?

Okay, it's a bit of hack, but standby..
Setup your address (that you want printed) in contacts app
    Copy that address
Paste 30 times (or however many labels you have per page)
Select those 30 duplicate entries, and go to print
Viola! (When you are done you can delete the excess entries)

  • Printing address labels via Address Book - last and first names mixed up

Trying to print mailing labels from Address Book. However in my list of 50 contacts, some labels are printed with the first name then last name, and others are printed with the last name then first name. It doesn't seem to matter if I switch the order of how it appears for each contact within address book, or set the Preferences in Address Book to have the first before the last name, some labels will still be printed with the last name first.
    Any suggestions???

Something which worked for me was after adjusting the order of the first and last name (either using Preferences) or manually, I saved it, and then it seemed to print fine after that. So maybe saving it first before printing was the key.

  • How to Print on either Avery 8160 or 8250 labels from Address book

    Hey all,
I'm trying to do Christmas Address Labels and I have my addresses in Address Book, and I have Avery Labels 8160 or 8250 (3 rows of 10, can't tell the difference between the two).
I've created a group in Address Book that has all of the people who I want to send cards to.
I highlight all of them go to Print, then change to labels, but Address Book shows only a 2 columns of 12. How do I change this to 3 columns of 10?
If I can't do this from address book. I do have the new version of MS Office for Mac, but It's label wizard isn't very easy to use, I either get a whole bunch of junk, or one sheet of the same address.
Any help would be nice since Christmas is the end of the week.

If I only looked a bit further. There is a "layout" option once you open up the print dialogue. Thats where you select the correct type of avery label.

  • Preview not working for labels in Address Book

I was playing around with printing Avery labels using Address Book and noticed that the preview window on the left doesn't refresh any changes (such as changing label size) or doesn't zoom in or out when using the scroll bar below it. It then unexpectedly quits occasionally. Also, whenever I save the print settings under a new name and try to recall it later on, it doesn't recall the last saved settings (such as label #). Anyone else have this issue?

I've just noticed the exact same symptoms on my Mac as well. The app crashed 3 times while trying to format and print Avery 5160 labels. And the Preview pane is pathetic....it doesn't update the view until toggling the layout dropdown. Zoom....? What zoom....???
I may end up going to the Avery website and see if I can format and print my return address labels online there.

  • Problem Adding Custom Labels to Address Book

I add custom labels to the Template in Address Book Preferences. There's no problem at this stage, the custom labels appear along with the preset labels in the Template. But when I leave Preferences, go back to Address Book and add a new card, the custom labels disappear.
    What am I doing wrong?
Any help would be appreciated. And thank you in advance.

Barney-15E: Thanks for your previous reply!
Would you check this work-around for me? I think I found a way to compose a master list of custom labels and have them available for multiple cards (new and old) in Address Book on a MacBookPro and in the Contacts directory on an iPhone. I have tried compiling a master list of custom labels using Address Book Preferences/Template and I find there's a limit to the number of custom labels I can add as a label for each field.
    Here's my workaround.
    1) Go to the iPhone Contacts directory.
    2) Add a new card.
    2) Enter data in these fields: address, date, email, and phone. The standard label will appear on the screen below the data.
    3) Tap the standard label and you will go to a screen with 2 windows. The top window has the standard or preset labels for that field but below it in a second window is a button "Add Custom Label". Tap on this button and you will be able to add the text for a Custom Label for each of these fields. This will then become a master list of Custom Labels that can be used in most labels in the iPhone Contacts Directory.
    4) If you have your IPhone set up to synch with your MacBookPro or iMac, the entry in the iPhone Contacts directory will be transferred to your other Mac, with the Custom Labels.
Barney - 15E: Can you find a glitch??? To me it seems to make a master list of custom labels available for all card, new and old. The only problem is that the input has to be done on the iPhone.

  • How do I print envelopes using Address Book?

I am having trouble getting envelopes to print properly from Address Book in Lion.  I have specified size #10 envelpes.  When I print them, the text printed on successive envelopes moves further and further down the page until the address drops off of one envelop and is then printed at the top of the next envelope.  If I print to PDF, I see the same behavior.  I have an HP OfficeJet 7600 printer.
Also, when I switched to size #9 envelopes without making any other changes, the envelopes were printed as though I had switched from portrait to landscape.
Can anyone tell me how to fix these problems?  I am so disappointed because what looked like a really quick and easy way to print envelopes has now taken hours and I only have 3 remotely satisfactory envelopes printed and no hope of getting more other then to do them one by one.

I have a similar problem too. I might be mistaken, but I think it creeped in when I "upgraded" to Lion and the foobarred the addressbook and who knows what else. It used to work just fine.
I have had luck printing envelopes with the Ambrosia widget. Very nice and free, Give it a try.

  • Custom fields and line length in Address Book

Hi everyone. Does anyone know how to alter the permitted line length of a label in Address Book? If I create a custom label the label will be truncated if it is too long. This does not seem necessary as there can be loads of blank space to the right of the card window. In other words the label will not resize dynamically to accommodate a long custom label. I have a feeling that you may be able to edit a .plist file in the Package to adjust the default number of characters the label can have, but I'm a bit nervous about poking about when I'm not too knowledgeable. Any ideas?

In other words the label will not resize dynamically to accommodate a long custom label.
Of course not. You've chosen a specific label style/size, so if it were to resize dynamically, that would cause text to print where there is no label stock.
You cannot edit any file to change the number of characters per label; at best, you could creae your own label size and define the margins, but that's it.
