Missing file folder in LR2.7 -- how to locate

After a crashed and replaced hard drive, many catalogs no longer refer to a file or folder at its correct location.  Clicking on the "?" in the library modcule and then the "find missing folder or file", only leads me to the message that the file already exists.  How can I find it to re-establish the link?

What you want to do is click on the folder instead of the image.
In the left hand menu, click on the top most folder (left most if more than one) and you should get an option to reconnect or find missing folder.
Browse to the new location and select.
If you click on the top most, it will reconnect everything below it.
A number of us use only one top most folder for this reason; it helps when moving images around or something.
Cheers!

  • Missing files - iTunes using wrong path, how can I change it?

    Hi,
I store my itunes library on an external hard drive and I have over 1000 music files which itunes cannot locate even though they are there.
Having done a bit of research I've discovered that the path for these files is incorrect.
The path in "Get Info" for a missing track shows the path as:
    file://localhost/Volumes/Public/My Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music/Artist/Album/Song.xxx
The path for a working track shows:
    /Volumes/Public/My Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Artist/Album/Song.xxx
So the missing ones have the extra "file://localhost" which I don't think should make a difference, but they also have an extra "Music" folder.
Is there a simple way to correct this for all the missing tracks?
    Thanks!

https://discussions.apple.com/message/20401436 - turingtest2 11/2012 post on rebuilding empty/corrupt library from previous iTunes library file after upgrade/crash.  -- Possibly not what you want to do since your old library file may be very out of date.  You don't say if this happened because you were updating iTunes right now in which case this might be the best way.  If you recently did update you can take the archived library file and move it and rename it so it now becomes the library.itl file iTunes is using.
A slightly different approach to rebuilding, using a copy of the library file that is stored in a different format (.xml).  It is up to date as regards to your main library file though it does omit some of the things I mentioned in an earlier post.
iTunes: How to re-create your iTunes library and playlists - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1451 I'm going to copy and paste, and edit the applicable section since it's a bit mixed in:
    Re-creating the iTunes Library file
Note: After re-creating your library, any devices that you sync with iTunes  (Apple TV, iPod, iPhone, iPad) will see your iTunes library as a new  library and will completely resync. The next sync with such a device will take longer and may reset some options since your rebuilt library isn't familiar to the device.
    1. Quit iTunes.
    2. Locate your iTunes folder (this is the folder that contains the iTunes Library and iTunes Library.xml files).
    /Users/[your username]/Music
    3. Open your iTunes folder.
    4. Drag the "iTunes Library.xml" or "iTunes Music Library.xml" file to the Desktop. If neither is available, learn how to add files back to the Library (because the XML file is not available, playlists and other information will not be available).
    5. Drag the following file from your iTunes folder to another folder.  The file can later be trashed:
    "iTunes Library" or "iTunes Library.itl"
    6. Open iTunes.
Important: Do not add any content into iTunes at this point (such as by purchasing something from the iTunes Store).
    7. Choose File > Library > Import Playlist.
    8. Navigate to the "iTunes Library.xml" file on the Desktop.
    Mac users: Click Choose.
If the above does not work we will need to edit the .xml file you are storing on the desktop  because it is derived from your .itl library file and it too may have the broken links in it.  It's the "file://localhost" stuff that's causing the problem.  The links aren't truly invalid, it's the fact that iTunes for some reason is inserting the localhost stuff that's causing iTunes to see them as broken links.  This can be edited  using a search and replace with a text editor, if necesssary.
For what it's worth, if you don't have too many broken links you could fix them by hand, but it's not fun.
Note, in addition to backing up your whole iTunes collection periodically, it is worth occasionally backing up the library file in case it becomes corrupt (as it is now in a way).

  • OAS 10.1.3.2.0 WebCenter SRDemo_App Request Demo: missing file folder

    Hi,
I have installed the Oracle AS 10.1.3.2.0 WebCenter Framework and am trying to follow the SRDemo_App Demo from
Installing the Oracle WebCenter Suite Service Request Demo
    U:\WebCenter\SRDemo_App_Download\install\install.html
Here in this file, Section 1, Step 1, point 4, the documentation says:
    4. In the C:\srdemo\oc4j\srdemo_oc4j directory, read the README_PDK.txt for steps to install OC4J.
I have checked the downloaded file and do not see any file or directory for srdemo_oc4j nor for README_PDK.txt.
    Can somebody help me please?
    Thank you for your attention.

    Hi,
Actually it's niether.. This script is optional, you create it if you want to assign certain numbers for the ports and not to leave it to the defaults assigned by the installer. So you create it and tell the installer where to find it.
You can find the details here:
    http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B31017_01/linux.1013/install/reqs.htm#BABEEAAJ
This manual shows the usage and a sample file..
    Good luck..

Don't know what OS you have so this info is for ICS.
To make a folder on screen, long press on one app and drag and drop it on top of another app.  You will kinda see both apps there now and when you touch it a folder will open up and you can choose one of the apps.  You will also now be given a chance to name the folder.
To open a new window in the chrome browser, tap on the menu button (the 3 verticle dots in the upper right hand corner of the screen) and click "new tab"
If you have a different OS, let us know and someone will post the answer to your questions.

  • Missing file sizes  in finder window

I can’t seem to find how to get OSX to display all file and folder sizes in the size column of my finder windows. I’ve tried using the show view options (command-J) and this seems to work for all except folders and Keynote files. Does anyone know how to fix this, especially for Keynote files?
    Mark

No, there is no checkbox labeled as such. If I choose the "calculate all sizes" checkbox, all of the values come up now. However, if I also choose the "all windows" checkbox, it seems as though this change only works for the current window since if I open up another folder on my drive, I'm back to square one with missing file/folder sizes. Any way to make this change universal throughout the system?

  • Is there a quick way of identifying 'missing files'

Occasionally when you try to play a song you get a message saying that Itunes can't find the file together with an invitation for you to locate it yourself.  After you locate it you get another message asking you if you want ITunes to locate other missing files - and it tells you how many missing files there are. ITunes invariably then locates some of the other missing files but usually not all of them. i can't find a way of viewing the songs that are "missing" other than by scrolling through the whole list looking for the identification marker at the far left.

Thanks for your response but because of the way in which my music files are stored; on an external drive rather than in the Itunes folder, Doug's scripts don't work for me - had a series of e mail exchanges with him regarding embedding artwork a while ago.  I just can't understand why, when ITunes can identify and tell you in a message how many missing tracks there are, it doesn't provide a way of sorting the library to show the missing tracks together.

  • Missing sidecar - remove missing file status

I have raw files that had metadata written to XMP sidecar files, the XMP are now missing, and I don't want to have LR create new sidecar files. The files show up as missing in the catalog. How can I get rid of the missing status and the little "metadata status warning" icons without having to write new sidecar files? If I can't that's pretty insidious and I would call it a bug.
    Thanks

Writing to xmp and then deleting the xmp is how I got to this stage. They show up in the Missing Files folder in the library tab of the library module. If I hover over the little question mark icon it says sidecar file is missing. If I click on the question mark it writes the metadata to xmp, even if "auto write changes to xmp" is unchecked in the catalog settings>metadata preferences.
But there's no way to delist them from missing files without creating a new xmp, as far as I can tell. You're basically stuck with "missing files" warning forever unless you create new xmps.
It's pretty annoying. I'd call it a bug. Essentially it's probably just a scenario that wasn't considered or accounted for in development. Creating missing file folder on demand - I like that.
Thanks for your input, let me know if you come up with anything

  • Late 2007 MBP graphics glitch with files/folder in finder

After the 10.5.6 update everything worked smoothly. Since a restart when moving files and folders within the finder now I have a graphical glitch. The file/folder being moved appears randomly cut, (both text and icon are missing a random squarish chunk of the file/folder image when dropped to another location anywhere in the finder). There is also more than usual delay. I am not having this occur with item on the desktop. Is there anything I can do to resolve this?

Then there's a conflict or corruption in the original account, usually amongst the various preference files. How badly do you want fix this problem? Here's what's required to resolve the conflict/corruption (sorry I have no idea which preference file (plist) might be mucked up, but you can do a cursory check with Preferential Treatment at http://www.jonn8.com/html/pt.html
While logged into the newly created admin account, backup the bad account's folder, delete the bad account, selecting the save data option (which is stored in /Users/Deleted Users/ as a disk image), recreate the bad account using the same username/password combo, log out and back into the recreated original account. If the problem's solved, open the saved data dmg file in /Users/Deleted Users/, open the /Library/Preferences/ folder from the saved data, open the current /Users/restored account/Library/Preferences/ folder, and slowly copy plist files from the saved data folder to the current one that don't exist in it. Log out and back in to ensure there's no conflict and things still work correctly. Resolving conflicts or identifying corrupt plist files is a laborious process. Good luck.
See http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4703015 for more details on this process.

  • Spotlight missing files/folders/apps

Not sure why, but spotlight has started missing files/folder/apps from searches.
I have tried rebuilding the index using all the sudo commands, and third party apps like Onxy with no success. I have also deleted the .plist file- still with no luck.
Spotlight will find some folder/files within a directory, but not others in the same dir. App have started not showing up now too.
Any help or advice is appreciated as this is causing productivity problems at work now!

I read it, but there's nothing in the mdutil manpage about blowing away the entire Spotlight directory. That's why it leads the pack. Alternatively, boot with the install disc, select your language, select Terminal from the Utilities menu in the next window, and do this command:
*sudo rm -R /Volumes/"name of original boot volume"/.Spotlight-V100*
quit the Terminal app, and reinstall Snow Leopard. See if that fixes the issue.

  • Import Catalog vs. Find Missing Files

I had my primary image storage hard drive fail.  I am switching to my full backup, however I have hundreds of folders containing 118,000+ files and want the best way to access them.
I can have the existing catalog Find Missing Files, and that preserves the History from teh Develop panel, but it seems that I can only find files within a subfolder, which means that I have to do that for every individual subfolder in the sack.
I can also Import Catalog, but my question is: Will that preserve the History from the Develop Panel or will it simply import the files, as edited, but without showing the step-by-step edits previosuly completed?
I imported a couple of individual subfolders (not the Import Catalog option) and the files came through with edits intact, but no History (History began with the new Import).
Any ideas?  Finding Missing Files folder by folder is a potential time suck of epic proportion, but I want to preserve my work history.
    Thanks,
    David Feldman
LR5 on an iMac running 10.8.5

Thanks for the suggestions.  But here's more details...
The Find Missing Folders so far (I will see if I am missing someting) has not worked from the parent directory.  I will look again to see if I glossed over an important step.
As for the drive, it is a Drobo S 5-disk array.  The disk experienced a bad sector reorganization, which was successful (all partitions readable and writeable).  I prepared to swap out the newly-classified "bad" disk and install the new drive.  My major blunder was to accept the Drobo firmware update because IMMEDIATELY after doing to upon reboot the Drobo now showed that ALL OF MY DRIVES WERE NOT INSTALLED, not just the one empty bay waiting for the newer, bigger backup drive.
Needless to say, I'm out of the 90-day "we'll help you" period, but they are trying to get a one-time papel dispensation to allow me to receive assistance via e-mail.
So, for now, I ain't doing squat to the Drobo array until they come up with a way to access my data.  I would, however, like ot keep working, hence the need for a new catalog.

  • How do I get a list of all missing files in a catalog in LR2?

Is there an easy way to get a list of all missing files for the thumbnails in Lr2? I know the symbol that appears in the upper right corner of any particular photo that is missing its file, but how can I get a list of all such photos for an entire catalog (or at least big chunks of a catalog).
    Thanks.

You can right click a folder and choose Synchronise - it has a Show Missing Files buttom.

  • I have files in my iTunes media folder that somehow are not in my library. How do I get iTunes to scan my media folder and add missing files to my library without making a copy of each file in the same location?

I have files in my iTunes media folder that somehow are not in my library. How do I get iTunes to scan my media folder and add missing files to my library without making a copy of each file in the same location? If I use add file / folder to library, it scans the folder and then makes a copy of any file that is not in my library in the exact same location; I recal in older versions of iTunes being able to just drag my media folder into my library and it would update missing links.

Only the songs that are connected to iTunes will be copied when you consolidate to a new folder.
Splitting the media folder away from the usual location makes it harder to move iTunes in the future.
Are you go move everything back once you've tidied up or are you going to leave it that way? Either way I'd recommend you create an iTunes folder at the new location, an iTunes Media folder inside that, and consolidate to this new iTunes Media folder. You should also use the option File > LIbrary > Organize Library > Rearrange files in the folder "<Media Folder"> if you have not already done so.

  • How do I find out where iTunes thinks missing files are?

I have several hundred "missing" files in my iTunes library but they are all actually on the computer. But I don't remember where the were previously. I add dozens of songs at a time to my library all the time and there is no Earthly way for me to constantly remember where they were before. I don't just want to reimport the files because I have several hundred playlists with these files and it would be completely stupid to edit them all one at a time when all I need to do is to move them back to where iTunes thinks they should be. So where is that? The Windows media player has a column that displays file location. Why doesn't iTunes? (This is so stupid. It makes things -not just this- so much easier when you have the file location in the music list in your music player.)
Is there a way to find out where iTunes thinks the missing files should be at?

    Chris CA wrote:
How do I find out where iTunes thinks missing files are?
The exclamation mark means ITunes doesn't think they are anywhere.
If you right click - get info on a song then view the Info tab, you will see where iTunes last used it from.
I'm not a newbie. I know quite a lot about iTunes. You sound like you don't though because if you did you would know that this is not true. If you "right click - get info on a song" (pressing cancel to the Locate popup) "then view the SUMMARY (not info) tab" you will see "Not Available" where the file location usually is. I wouldn't have asked this question if I hadn't gone through the steps already.
Thanks for trying though. Next time, please try the advice before you give it.
I add dozens of songs at a time to my library all the time and there is no Earthly way for me to constantly remember where they were before
You should not have to remember anything about where they were.
    I agree.
Are you always moving them around?
When I install a new hard drive. Yes. I generally keep everything organized and I let iTunes keep the folder organized but several years ago I used windows media player to organize my media.
Frankly I don't know HOW the recent songs/videos/etc. go missing. But some do. Maybe I accidentally move a folder without realizing it. Mistakes happen. Then I need to move it back but since I didn't know I did it in the first place I can't possibly be expected to remember where I moved it from.
Do you have iTunes prefs -> Advanced Keep ITunes music folder organized ticked and Copy files to iTunes ... ticked?
*OF COURSE!* Again, I'm not a newbie.
I have several hundred playlists with these files
Why would you have several hundred playlists?
I don't mean to sound rude but you sound like an Apple fanboy. Are you trying to tell me how I should use my own program? The answer to the question is I am a salsa instructor/DJ and I am constantly adding songs and videos to my library. Every month I have various salsa events, classes and performances that I do. I use my iPhone for the music. I need to maintain the playlists because students/teachers/studios/clubs/bars/churches/etc. call me back and want a repeat of the great salsa night I gave them a year ago. Naturally my playlists are highly organized into folders. So, I still have them and I need them.
Apple has its own ideas about how people should use its stuff but everyone is unique and our needs therefore are unique too. Apple doesn't realize this and still wants us to do things "the Apple way" even though "the Apple way" only works well for people who want their hand held through everything. This is why I say you sound like a fanboy. You don't know my situation and question if I need hundreds of playlists. I do.
I just need an answer to the question.
Thank you for your reply though. It gave me hope, for a time.
