Missing file: Light_parchment_paper_a-3.jpg

After exporting my book as a pdf, I exited iBooks Author. I checked the pdf and it was fine. I then went back to iBooks Author to do some more work. However, when I reopened the file in iBooks Author, I got the error message above. The book looks ok in iBooks author. Any idea how to fix this??

When I open up the iWeb Application I get a window that states the following:
"The following errors occurred while trying to open this document:"
"Missing File PhotoGraynavbg-9.png"
"Missing File PhotoGraynavbg-9.jpg"
"Missing File 72767678_b-9.jpg"
Then, it says...
"To include missing images and movies, add them to the document again."
The problem?... I don't want these images in my website but when I'm working on the website I have grayed-out areas with question marks and when I try to publish it won't allow it because of the missing files... PLEASE HELP!

Try deleting the iWeb preference file - Home Folder/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWeb.plist - and do a restart of your Mac.

Help with "Missing Files" message

My blog has been giving me an error message when I open it: "The following errors occurred when trying to open this document", "Missing file 'Pinstripewelcometile-15.jpg". It's one of the background pinstripe graphics for the "formal" theme that has an "x" and a question mark - it's used on all the entry pages. (http://web.me.com/mikejdunlap/Site/BLOG/Entries/2010/4/27ChocablockCookies.html) I've added new pages and republished, but the "number" of the missing graphic keeps changing every time I open iWeb: "welcomepinstripe15.jpg" etc - I think it started at "_9.jpg". I can't "replace" the file or add them again to my page - since it's a template graphic, rather than my own that I can choose in the media browser. How do I get iWeb to put this background image back in the entry pages? Thanks in advance for any help!

UPDATE: I restarted my computer and went through the exact same process outlined above and now it looks like it resolved itself; the error message no longer appears after I turn sync back on. I believe everything is working correctly now. Basically, it looks like the solution is to completely reboot your computer.

I am in the process of importing photos from iPhoto (don't really know what I'm doing....) and when I look at one of the imported photos that message pops up. I know what "DSC_0088.jpg" is. I don't know what it means that the file is "missing".

Thank you so much for your reply. I have a couple of bigger issues that I am dealing with: too many photos on my laptop: 40,000! (Of course I have to throw away many of them, but that is time consuming). I have a MacBook Pro and have primarily used IPhoto. I have recently purchased 2 external drives and have transferred my photos to those, but I need a basic education about how photos are stored, copied, etc. I have recently been told that iPhoto only shows and deals with jpegs, not RAW. About 1/3 of my photos are RAW, so I purchased Lightroom, so I could do more with those RAW photos. I have been told by my local Mac store that I need to delete most of my photos from iPhoto, because it's causing problems. I am reluctant to do so until I am sure that all of the keywords, descriptions and editing I have done to these photos is not lost when deleted from iPhoto. I just watched a tutorial about importing to Lightroom and got out of it that I needed to copy photos from iPhoto to a file on my desktop and then copy to Lightroom. I did that, it seemed to work. Then (because of my storage/memory issues) I deleted the photos (just a few as an experiment) from that desktop file. I'm guessing that is why Lightroom doesn't recognize the the photos. It seems that (learned from another tutorial) that one uses "Add" , Lightroom is only connecting to the source of the photo, not actually copying it to the program. Sounds like I need to use the "Move" feature instead. My ultimate goal is to store the photos on the 2 external drives and eliminate most of them from my lapop. So my basic questions have to do with what data (metadata??) is copied from iPhoto to an external drive (RAW???) and what isn't copied. Basic understanding issues,obviously…. I hope this isn't too much to ask. If you can recommend a book or resource that can explain those basic issues to me I'd appreciate it. I just got back from a trip and I can't download my new photos until I manage the rest!

ITunes linking to JPGs in strange folders & missing files

I was using iTunes on a PC, via a NAS drive where I keep my music. I want to start using iTunes on a MacBook so pointed iTunes on the Mac to the shared music folder on the NAS. I had the usual exclamation marks on some of the tracks, so went in to the folders to locate the files. A lot are now missing from the folders - i.e. half the albums are gone or complete artists are missing.
The second and most strangest part that I cannot understand is that when I look on some tracks in 'Get Info' and 'Where', some of the files have been moved to obscure locations and are showing as jpgs. When I go into the folder, all there is is JPGs! The music plays fine for these files, however I can't locate the rest of my missing files as they no longer have the correct filenames or even extensions. Example below.

Somehow they got deleted from the PC's hard drive, but iTunes didn't get told about it.
Just find those podcasts in iTunes and delete them.

Files disappeared from library, "missing" files not really missing

I had a folder with 3 files in different formats for each image. These were imported several days ago, grouped into stacks, captioned, tagged, etc. and synced to the files. They continued to exist in the library some time afterward, but today when I opened lightroom all of the jpg versions of all of the images and all 3 formats of one image in particular had vanished from the library. It did not claim that it could not find them on disk (and in fact the files *do* still exist on disk right where they should), they just didn't show up. I was able to re-import all of the jpg images without trouble, but for the other two formats of the one missing image, importing one of them fails because it "already exists in the library," and the other one is willing to import but then doesn't show up in the folder or the recently imported files list. When I try to synchronize the folder, it suggests that I import that file, but it never actually does. Since importing the jpgs, it also suggests that I remove 53 "missing" files, the number of jpgs imported. When I view the missing files in the library, it shows only 2 of the jpgs, one of which belongs with the files that will not import and neither of which is actually missing--they can both be synchronized just fine by clicking the little synchronize icon on the actual photo.
Does anyone know what's going on here and how I might be able to get the files that won't import back into the library? And how to be sure that files won't just go away on their own again?
Edit: to be clear, missing versions of files were definitely not stacked with the other ones and the "don't import duplicates" box was not checked when re-importing the ones that won't re-import

I managed to get the photos that wouldn't import back in by deleting them directly out of the database and then reimporting them into lightroom. I'm a little concerned that they disappeared in the library view in the first place, though. Does this sort of thing happen often, and under what circumstances? I'm still in the free trial period and was very close to buying the program, but now I'm not so sure. If I'm using an application to manage my photos, I want to know that it's actually managing all of the photos I put into it and not randomly forgetting about them.
I'm still having the not-really-missing files problem, though. I think it may actually be because they got associated as "sidecar" files somehow and are now in there twice, once as the sidecar file and another time as a separate jpg image. I'm not really sure why only one of them shows up in the missing images view, I think it might be because I edited that one so it's in a slightly different state from the others? If there are any tips on how to resolve that state, I'm all ears, I'd like it to stop telling me I have 53 missing files when I don't.

Missing files in catalog shared between Windows and Mac

I switch between using Elements 12 on a Mac (Mountain Lion) and a Windows 7 machine while managing a common catalog. The catalog and media are stored on an external USB 3.0 disk drive attached to whichever machine I am using to work.
This setup works fine except that on computer #1, the Organizer “loses” media files computer #2 has worked with, and vice versa. The problem seems to be in the way Elements stores the media file location.
Example:
My external catalog and media drive is named “JS” and assigned drive letter G: on the Windows machine.
File “IMG_0310.JPG” is stored in directory “2007 08 18”.
On the Windows machine the location seen in the Elements Organizer Information panel is “G:\2007 08 18\”.
Using the Mac, Elements reports the file as missing, finds it, and changes the file location to “\Volumes\JS\2007 0818\”.
Returning to the Windows machine, the problem repeats itself and corrects the file location to use Windows-style path names.
This wouldn’t be so bad if Elements was faster reattaching missing files, but the search for the first few reconnects takes a very long time and the whole process grows longer the more work I did on the other machine. This is a major annoyance and time drain.
Elements documentation promotes the use of an external drive for sharing. Someone else must have run into this same problem. Is there a way to configure Elements to overcome the file location problem?

Looking at volume_table there are indeed two entries for the external drive (rows 3 and 5):
The Windows entry on row 3 shows the correct volume serial number in decimal as assigned when the drive was formatted. The hex version is 7A85-0647. The Mac entry on row 5 shows a serial number that doesn't make sense from a Windows or Mac perspective.
This is interesting but I'm not sure what to do with this information. It may not be a bug. It would make sense from a development viewpoint to use the serial number to uniquely identify the drive and have separate entries for each OS tied together by that serial number, allowing the drive path to differ by OS. Although, in this case the serial numbers do not match. Maybe the Mac and Windows versions of PSE 12 are retrieving two different serial numbers and therefore do not see the drive as the being the same, which would be a bug.

LR3 Missing File Naming Issue

I accidently deleted a number of images from two different collections. Luckily my partner had exported copies of all the keepers with the same file names.
LR3 never lost the catalog info, and the thumbnails were still present, albeit with the question marks for missing files.
In order to preserve at least the thumbnails of the non-keeper files, I simply used Windows explorer to copy the backups into the original location. (I realize I could have just deleted the old files and re-imported all of them via LR, but as I said I wanted to keep the ~10% of non-keepers as well.)
In one collection, the Locate Missing File process worked like a champ, and all the images have been reconnected in the LR catalog.
In the other collection, the Locate Missing File dialogue results in another dialogue that says the file name is not the same, even though, to my eyes, it is identical. I am not sure if it's an issue with .jpg vs .jpeg vs .JPEG or something else. When I do force the link, I get an additional dialogue that says the metadata has changes and it prompts me to overwrite it.
So my question is - Any idea why LR thinks the filenames are different when they are identical to the naked eye? Obviously I could do this one by one, but I have a few thousand images and was looking for a batch process to re-link them all. And I realize also that I could just re-import all the keepers, but I'm trying to preserve the non-keepers (they are indexing images and still have their uses, even in thumbnail form).
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the response. I would say that it could be a factor because the files from my partner were obviously kept in a different folder. However, the move and Locate function worked fine on one set of images, but not the other. I'm guessing my partner ran the other images through some kind of processing that altered the filename in a way that is not apparent.
I'll keep trying to figure it out.

Loaded 7.3-does not work-restored system-does not work-missing files?

I downloaded 7.3 and got a message that it could not upgrade the version of IPOD software found on cpu. Please uninstall and try again. Did that. Also removed all Itunes and Ipod software versions. Still got message. Decided to restore computer to before the 7.3 download. Now get error message that ITunes cannot run because files are missing. Doesn't say which ones. Any idea on how to restore old version?

My workflow is to basically backup my negative collection by scanning at the highest resolution possible and save them at full bit depth as Tiffs on offline storage. I then duplicate all the files as large JPGs and store them on my local machine. These are then all duplicated again and down sampled to 1024*768 to be synced with the iPad. After 2 1/2 years and a 16 page file documenting all the bugs, I finally got the small files to sync with an iPad 4. After all is said and done, it only took about 7GB to sync 50K Jpgs but did end up with a 20GB "Other" file that no one from Apple can explain. I have been seeing these "Other" files for a while and think they are some sort of memory corruption and the only way to get rid of it is to restore the ipad.
Bottom line, iTunes for Windows is terrible, very buggy, and unsupported by Apple. They can only help you trouble shoot restarting problems but there is no escalalation path for things that don't work. iTunes basically has a lot of trouble with samll number of large files and even a large number of small files.
I have been using Lighroom to convert the Tiffs to JPGs but ran into a problem that Adobe engineers didn't know about. Lightroom will only support a maximum of 512 mega pixels and won't load any files over this size. It appears it may load them as PSDs but not as Tiffs. Problem is Lightroom won't give any error message for files it won't load so there is no way to trouble shoot it.
What does work flawlessly is using Photoshop/Scripts/Image Processor.
In protest of Apples apathy I took every IOS device I ever purchased back to the Apple store and challenged them to either make them work or refund them. They gave a full refund for every device I erver purchased including $299 for the original touch which came out to about $3500. I even sent a letter to Tim Cook ([email protected]) but he didn't care either.

Tutorials Missing Files?

The tutorials provided with Shake would be easier to follow if the files supplied with the disk were working properly. Tutorial 1 worked according to the book, but Tutorial 2 is not loading properly into the Shake environment, or the images are missing. The squares representing the thumbnails appear, but nothing in them. Scripts for Tutorials 6, and 8 are missing.

Tutorials 6 and 8 don't have scripts.
For 6, you just need bg.jpg and woman.iff.
For 8, you just need traffic_bg.jpg.
Tutorial 2's images don't load properly? No wawas?
Are the FileIn nodes red? That means Shake can't find the images.
Try copying the Tutorial_Media folder to a folder called nreal
that you create in your home directory. Or, if you'd prefer,
in each FileIn's Source tab, click on the little folder icon
next to imageName to manually load the file.

How to save a Nikon NEF file as a Jpg

When I go to FILE/SAVE AS I see a lot of file format options but no option for jpegs. What am I missing? I want to save a Nikon NEF file as a JPG.

Missing Files Report

Hi,
I am working on an inventory database in Oracle 6i and Windows
98. Every inventory item has a barcode and a picture. The
location to save inventory pictures is (I:\0\). For example, if
an item's barcode is "G0ABC", this item's picture will be saved
as "I:\0\G0ABC.JPG".
For some reason, we only have the picture's file name and there
is no actural picture in this location. Now, I need to develope
a report to find out which item only has the picture's name and
has no actural picture in it.
Any suggestion will be appreciated.

Hi,
use utl_File.fopen and try to open the file. If the file doesn't
exist, the fopen raises an exception which you can use to output
the missing file.
Only Problem, you need all directories in you init<SID>.ora file
or the global directory * which is not very secure!!!!!

Missing files for my Live 5.1 digital card (90

Hi I have this Sound Blaster card that I purchased as an OEM card and had to download the drivers for it and it is a very good sound card as have all my other previous Sound Blaster cards. My problem is that I cannot find anywhere to download all the other files that would have on the CD normally supplied with a card. I need to be able to transfer li've recordings made on a portable minidisk recorder, on to the PC and or the CD writer.
I can play the minidisk through the line in on the card no problem but with out the normally associated Wave recorder etc that is on the original CD I cannot actually transfer or save the recordings.
Can anyone point me in the direction where I can locate the missing files or obtain a replacement CD for my card? I'm based in Essex in the UK.

I doubt your card is?a 9000 as such if it's an SB li've!. I know where you are seeing this number, but you need to look on the card itself.
Your looking for something like this on? paper sticker on the card.

Spotlight Missing Files

Hi folks. I'm not sure why this is happening but no matter how many times I rebuild the index, Spotlight invariably misses some things. For instance, I have a file called passwords.doc. This was created a long time ago, and is obviously a Word file. Spotlight will not find this if I type password, but will if I make it plural. Yet there is a "2007 passwords" rtf file on the computer that it will find as soon as i type pas or pass. Another is a saved html page, called something like "social circles blah blah blah" ... if i type social, nothing. Social circle, nothing. social circles, and it pops up.
Is this a permissions issue? Is there a way to fix this? I just want the tool to be reliable, and I thought I had lost the old password file for days before I found it manually.

Spotlight is missing files.... I have a file "DSC_2000.jpg" - nothing found although there is a file with name in folder "pictures" - and it does not appear in my today or yesterday finder folder - even though it was created today.
The weird thing if I look up "DSC_1" I get files - if I look up "DSC_" I get files but not any "DSC_2"
"000.jpg" gets nothing.
Does it take time for files to get indexed for Spotlight or placed into the "Today folder " --- the files are about 1 hour old...?
