Missing files "Unavailable master files cannot be relocated."

Please help
I have missing masters -
I had 25,000 referenced masters in a directory next to the aperture library and ran consolidate (thought it was successful) but now I see 1012 "Missing" Masters.  When I do "Locate Referenced Files" Aperture says I do not have any referenced files.  But if I go do a Finder search for files in the old referenced location they are all still out there - (and not in the Aperture Library Masters)   (They all have the "Arrow/Triangle/exclamation mark" badge)
So my question is - can I connect the "Missing" to the existing file?  Or do I have to delete all the "missing masters" and loose all the aperture metadata I have on them?
I have read all the treads I can find and have not seen the same issue -
"Locate Referenced Files" is not an option.
and if I run relocate on the files I get this error:
"Unavailable master files cannot be relocated.
The selected master image is either offline or not found. Please reconnect it and try again."
Any advice or help from the community would be very appreciated - this is my first post - hope it was intelligible
(living in a cave like you do)

Hi Frank,
Yes my aperture library and the "master" directory are right next to each other in ~/Pictures/. The history of this is as follows:
1. I copied my entire library and masters from my laptop to my iMac ( was out of room )
2. I verified everything was good - looked fine
3. Deleted my MacBook libraries.
4. Consolidated my library - in prep to clean up
5.  Did a bunch of heavy cleaning efforts like merging projects within the library.
6. Ran a program to find duplicates - all it does is add keywords to suspect images.
7. Then I tried to relocate masters to a new directory and it errored out
8. Did a search for all "missing" (1000)
9. Started reading all the blogs - looking for answers
10. Ran all the repairs I could find
11.  Posted this help request.
12 1/2 - now looking at the SQLlite blogs out there - but as you can see my situation is... Odd. I wish I could query the aperture DB directly and see what it is thinking....
* Sorry - everyone. I'll try to get back to the rest of the replies later tonight

  • "Unavailable Master Images Cannot be Relocated." error; Reconnect no help.

Seeking help with strange behavior in Aperture that elicited a shrug from the Genius Bar at the local Apple store. They suggested I post a question in this forum.
I'm using referenced files in Aperture. When trying to move some of them to a different location on the same drive, before I even get the dialog to select a location, I get the following message:
"Unavailable Master Images Cannot be Relocated. The selected master image is either offline or not found. Please reconnect it and try again.".
So, as instructed, I go through the steps to reconnect the images. At least I think I do since Aperture doesn't complain. I can also select "Show in Finder" and the image is found from within Aperture without incident. In other words, the image is "found". Also, the image is not tagged as "offline".
After all of this, I get the same error: "Unavailable Master Images Cannot be Relocated. The selected master image is either offline or not found. Please reconnect it and try again.".
So, I am a bit lost as to what to do since Aperture provides no further instructions other than to reconnect the images. I also get the same error when I try to consolidate the master into the Aperture DB.
I hope someone has encountered this situation or similar situation before and can provide a remedy. I want to avoid reimporting the images since I will lose all keywords, and adjustments. Painful.
    Thanks,
    Joe

Not sure if we're facing the same issue but here's what I did, avoiding the need to redo all the adjustments and add keywords again. Maybe your situation can be fixed in the same way?
I have all my masters stored outside Aperture Library in separate folders on my hard drive. I just don't trust having all the originals inside Aperture. Maybe it makes life more difficult, I don't know. Then I import the folder to an Aperture Project to work on the photos. Maybe 1 in 20 is a 5 star keeper.
I ran out of HD space on my MBP (Nikon D200 RAW files are 15 meg each) so I copied the folders on the HD to a backup HD and then deleted the original folders and their contents on the main HD.
Now I want to take the 5 star pictures and make a print or upload a photo. In Aperture the referenced file is still there but I can't export or make any adjustments because "the selected Master image is either offline or not found."
So I go to "File/Manage Referenced Files" and the File Path tells me what I have to create. It tells me the volume and path "[user]/Pictures/8-9-08 RS Shag Rock" for example, and it's in Red. So I create a new folder on the HD with that exact name. Then I go to the Back up HD, find the 8-9-08 RS Shag Rock folder, find the photo I want and drag it back into the new folder on the HD. The File Path turns black and we're back in business.
Next time after the BU, I'll leave the folders on the main HD and just delete the contents and save a step when I need to bring some back. Obviously if you have a lot of files to move, it would just be simpler to copy the whole BU HD folder, and delete the pics on the Main HD you don't need for now.\
    Hope that helps.

  • "Unavailable master images cannot be exported. The selected master image is either offline or not found. Please reconnect it and try again."

I have imported my iPhoto library onto Aperture, and then deleted the iPhoto library so not to have any duplicates. Now, the images on Aperture are pixelated and when I try to export them the following message appears: "Unavailable master images cannot be exported. The selected master image is either offline or not found. Please reconnect it and try again."  What does this mean? How can I get my photos "online" so that I can see them as they used to be?

How did you import your iPhoto Library? I assume, you used "File > Import > iPhoto LIbrary", but how did you set the "Store Files" pop-up menu?
If you chose to "Store Files in their current location", then you did not actually import the master image files into Aperture, but referenced them inside the iPhoto Library. In that case, you just deleted all your images, when you deleted the iPhoto Library. And if you did that, and your iPhoto Library is still sitting in the Trash, put it back; then your Aperture Library should work again. Or restore the iPhoto Library from your most recent backup and put it into the exactly same location where it used to be.
If you used a different "Store Files" setting, please explain where you have chosen to store the master image files. This will help to track down your images.
After restoring your master image files you may need to reconnect them to the versions. Post back, if you need help with that.

  • Consolidation error: Unavailable master images cannot be consolidated

I'm trying to consolidate all of my referenced images into a managed library.
I did a global search for all referenced files, selected all, then clicked on 'Consolidate Masters'. This worked for all but 200 of my 4K images. I got the following error message at the beginning of consolidation:
"Unavailable master images cannot be consolidated. The selected master image is either offline or not found. Please reconnect it and try again".
The problem is that each of my 200 remaining referenced images is, in fact online. Aperture knows exactly where it is. I've tried to 'reconnect' using Manage Referenced Files but that dialog confirms that Aperture knows where the file is and no 'reconnection' is possible because nothing is 'de-connected'.
While this is frustrating, the truly confusing thing is that I can simply run the Consolidate Masters command again and some more of the remaining images are consolidated. I'm now down to about 175 but it has taken about 5 iterations.
Does anyone have any idea what Aperture is trying to tell me or what I can do about it?
    Thanks and take care,
    Jeff

Just to add more to my confusion, I did another global search to get a count on my referenced and master images. I would expect that any image is either referenced or managed. If so, the total of referenced images plus managed should equal the total number of images. Same with offline and online.
Sadly, that's not the case for me.
In keeping with my above post, I was down to 144 Referenced files with 3,373 managed images. This should be a total of 3,517 total images. Unfortunately, when I remove all filters, I have 3,899 images in the library. I'm not sure where the other 382 images are.
I selected all referenced images and ran consolidate. I again had the 'reconnect' message. After running, there were now only 131 referenced images remaining. I assumed that I had consolidated 13 images (144 - 131) and that I would then have 13 more managed images. Unfortunately, I still had only 3,373 managed images, the same as before.
I suspect there is something fundamental about Aperture that I'm misunderstanding. Any ideas what it would be?
    Thanks and take care,
    Jeff

  • Missing files cannot be imported and show as dupes.  Phantom directory claims to have them, but cannot be found in catalog or HD

I have 191 files in a known HD folder.  The light room catalog declares them all missing.  If I attempt to copy as DNG with the don't import suspected files checked off, all of them gray out.
However, if the don't import suspected dupes box is not checked, they will import.
Except : they will not go the destination of my choice, that is, the same folder in which the reside on the hard drive, 2014_09_06, but a subdirectory of the folder of my choice, also called 2014_09_06, with a checked box next to it indicating 191 files. If i leave that box checked, I can import.  If I uncheck it everything appears to be a dupe, even if the don't import suspected dupes box is not checked.
Nowhere in the catalog nor the hard drive is this phantom subdirectory to be found. Remember: when checked, it appears to have 191 files in it, but i have to be on the parent folder to see that. And even showing it has the right number of files it will let me import them, which may create actual dupes, and dupes of dupes.  When unchecked the folder it appears to have no files but my ability to import is stymied. Neither of these conditions relate to the dont import suspected dupes, which is unchecked under both sets of circumstances.
Final clues: the import sub-folder icon has a plus sign on it, and I cannot click on this folder on import screen, only on the parent folder of the same name.  In the library few, this subdirectory, I can click on the parent, I see 191 files, but they all have an exclamation mark indicating they are missing.

Yer basically right, and because I couldn't stand it any longer I went into the trash or the back up. or both, and got the one set of non duped imported dng, and the set of cr2 all of whose names had been altered to match, and put them in the appropriate folder on the HD.  And like magic, the dreaded exclamation point on every single picture in that folder in the catalog vanished, poof.  Some minor developing i did on one file is gone, but the tags remain.  So I'll live with this for a while [certainly too soon to claim victory over LR] and hope that these problems, which were restricted to these 191 shots in 1 folder, never darken my door again.
Thanks for your help, time for another adventure.  Stay tuned.

  • Unavailable Master Images are present

Trying to relocate masters to an external drive using Aperture 2.1. Project with many albums which I am relocating to folders with the same name as the album on an external drive. Most of the albums I was able to relocate. There are 4 where I get the "unavailable master images cannot be relocated" message. When I select and image to show in finder, it shows its location on my internal drive. I have rebuilt the library and still get the same message. I have gone to Manage referenced files and located all the images in the bottom window then click reconnect all. Still get the same message about unavailable masters. What am I missing?

I am having the same problem. I had all my master images stored in one folder on an external 300gb hard drive. However, I noticed that in aperture, it said I had only 15,000 images while in the folder showed ~17,000 masters. What were these extra 2,000 images? I decided to try to separate these "unconnected" images from the real masters by relocating all my master images into another folder. All went well until I got the following warning:
"Unavailable master images cannot be relocated. The selected master image is either offline or not found. Please reconnect it and try again."
I was able to move most of the masters, but Aperture says I still have 3,009 masters in the original folder (which if I navigate to in the finder contains ~5,000 images). The strange thing is that if I right click on one of these images in aperture and select "show in finder" it finds them with no problem. It can't find them thought when trying to relocate.
I have tried rebuilding the aperture library, manually moving the images into another folder and then attempting to relocate, and copying the masters to another hard disk and linking aperture to those masters. All with the same result.
    I am using Aperture 2.1.
Any help here would be great.

  • Versions with unavailable master files cannot be exported.

Anybody a good idea how to sorting this out?
All the files are in pictures folder, i see the preview in A3. but I have the red line across the symbol in R lower corner on all the pictures.
I have tried the 3 different steps to try fix A3.
The full error message i get if I try to export or do anything with my pictures.
"Versions with unavailable master files cannot be exported.
The selected master image is either offline or not found. Please reconnect it and try again."
I have recently exchanged HD and upgraded to Snow Leopard.
    HELP...

Hi,  I cannot export some of my photos either as i get a message saying they are offline & i must reconnect them.
So i have followed your instructions however the file status 'missing' option draws a blank.. if i change the rule to 'offline' i do seem to get all the files that I am currently unable to export.
then i do your last instruction:
Run "File→Locate Referenced File". Reconnect all.
I can now see the located files in the top window box but when i click 'done' it doesn't do anything & the options for reconnect all are blank.. see image..
Is there anything else i can do?

  • CS4 says missing or unavail codec when trying to open .avi file in abobe workbook cd

I am running CS4 on a Mac and when I try to open a lesson from the Adobe lessons (In a Book series) I am getting a message that the codec is missing or unavailable for the AVI file.  Actually, it cannot find the file initially, and when I point it to it in the lessons directory I get the message when it trys to open.  Help
    Thanks...
    Scott

First, thank you for the response.  I went in the QT library and removed the xvid codec "XviD_Codec 1.0 alpha.component" and the file still doesn't play in either QT or CS4.  I can hear the audio, but there is no video.  I earlier had tried downloading other codecs for QT, but they don't appear in the library.  I actually started by deleting QT and reinstalling, but that didn't work either.  The video plays in VLC.  When I look at video properties on QT it says the format is DVSD.  I read somewhere else that if I can get the file to play in QT then it sould play in Premiere also...
ok... editing my answer.... I deleted the same codec from the main library/quicktime and it all works fine!  I initally deleted it from the QT library under a user (me) and that didn't fix it...   Thanks a lot!

  • Cannot install driver due to missing files - BlockSysUser and hpzpnp.ice_suffix

I have just purchased a new Dell with Windows 7 64-bit and am trying to install the driver for my oldie-but-goodie OfficeJet 6310.  I am having the same problem with BlockSysUser as has appeared numerous times, and have tried all of the posted solutions.  I downloaded the driver from the website.
I can get past the BlockSysUser issue by creating another folder called ".SourcePath.setup" and copying the BlockSysUser file that resides in Setup.  However, I then get a missing file hpzpnp.ice_suffix.exe, which I cannot find in any of the other folders.  It seems to be looking for this also in ".SourcePath.setup".
I can install the printer using Windows, but then I don't have the other good stuff.
This problem seems to have been around for YEARS!  Why hasn't it been resolved through driver updates?
    Help!

    Hi DForm,
It's okay regarding the log file, I did some more research for you and found these steps:
Turn off Anti-Virus (McAffee in this case). How to Disable McAfee Antivirus.
Disabled the firewall. Turn Windows Firewall on or off.
Perform a L4 uninstall. (a) On the keyboard, hit the Windows and "R" key, then type %temp% and hit enter. b) Locate the correct folder starting with "7z" (the correct folder contains "Util" and "CCC" folders).  c) Open folder "Util". d) Open folder "CCC".  e) Please run the L4uninstall.bat. f) When the uninstall has completed, restart the computer).
Disabled startup and non MS services. Disable startup items and non-Microsoft services.
    Restart the computer.
Run setup as admin. How do I run an application once with a full administrator access token.

Did you download the Basic/Free version?
I also thought the Trial period was as long as you needed!?
What is your Warranty and Return Policy?
You get to use VueScan for as long as you want before you buy it, so we recommend you test it before you buy it to make sure it meets your needs.
All sales are final and there are no refunds.
Isn't this a bit harsh? Naah I actually prefer to solve problems, and if I offer refunds, people give up too easily. If I can't solve your problem after you send a few Problem Reports (see above), I'm happy to give a refund.

  • Premiere CS5 not importing .mov files - codec missing or unavailable

    Hi,
I'm on a Windows 7 PC running Premiere Pro CS5. Have encountered a problem with .mov files that I haven't had before. I recently received three files from a shoot at a local tv station. They are .mov files and I believe they are in an XD CAM wrapper or format. I've gotten files from this station before and have imported them with no trouble (not sure if the earlier files were XD CAM, though). When I try to import, I get the error message: Codec missing or unavailable. Would using the Prism video convertor to convert to another format be the way to go? The file sizes range from 7.18 GB to 14.9 GB. Thanks in advance.

  • Versions with unavailable original files cannot be exported.

I have imported some photos into Aperture and worked on them, exported some etc. but when I disconnected the memory card I realized I had the yellow triangle and I was not able to export the photos and had this message: Versions with unavailable original files cannot be exported.
When I re-connected the memory card the the yellow triangle disappeared and I was able to work with the images.
How can I get rid of the triangle without having to connect the memory card?
"Locate referenced files" command didn't work.
Please speak slowly as I am not super technical! :-)

In the Import dialogue, you apparently have selected to store originals in their current location -- not a good plan when they are on a memory card.  Select where you want them in the future.
With this particular card mounted, you should be able to take the originals into the Aperture Library, and if desired, later move them to be referenced.

  • Cannot import photos to iPad -- "missing file"

When I sync my iPad, everything seems to be going well, but at the end I get the message "iPad cannot be synced. The required file cannot be found." Everything syncs fine except the photos. My photos are in iPhoto, and are stored in the default file on the computer. All the categories show up on the iPad, but the photos themselves are blank. The iPad gives the message, "iTunes sync needed. High Resolution images synced via iTunes are missing." It then tells me to connect to the computer and sync with iTunes. There is no problem syncing them to my iPhone, so the file seems to be missing from the iPad, not iTunes.
I would reinstall Photos on the iPad, but I don't know how. Any thoughts? Thanks.

I'm having intermittent problems with 3rd Gen iPad, Canon EOS 60D and iOS 6. Never had a single upload problem with iOS5, but version 6 is very hit and miss on uploading. It's very frustrating to spend a few minutes ticking the photos you want to upload, only to have them fail with red exclamation marks. The only solution appears to be disconnect and power off everthing (including the iPad), turn iPad on, wait until booted, then reconnect cable, then power up the camera. Import usually works after this, but it's a bit of a pain. No sign of a fix from iOS 6.01.
