Missing firmware password, can't access boot options

Hi,
I own a Macbook Pro (13") which I bought from Ebay a few months ago. I recently changed my password to my administrator account, but I cannot remember it. I know of several bypasses to this, but as I attempt each one, they all seem blocked by a firmware password. I have tried contacting the original owner, but he does not remember what he set that as. I'm locked out of all boot options and my administrator account, I'm typing this now from the guest account which I enabled a while ago. Solutions?

If your MacBook is one of the following models there is no way to circumvent a firmware password, outside of a trip to the Apple Store:
MacBook Air (Late 2010) and later, MacBook Pro (Early 2011) and later, iMac (Mid 2011) and later, Mac mini (Mid 2011): Recovering a lost firmware password
Resolution
Only Apple retail stores or Apple Authorized Service Providers can unlock these computers protected by a firmware password.

Blue hp circle on black screen, can\'t access boot options for recovery disk

I installed Symantec full disk encryption and encrypted the hard drive. Then I restarted the pc. I get a black screen with a blue HP logo in the center. Message at the bottom right sysa press the ESC key for startup menu, but no key works. Every key pressed gets a beeping sound. If I turn power off and then on and press the different f keys, I get different messages but still no response from any keys.
Symantec sent me a recover disk to deencrypt the drive but I can't get the pc to load from the drive. Any thoughts?. I have hard reset the pc twice ( battery and power cord out, hold power button for 30 seconds)

I would remove the hard disk and then power up the notebook to see what response the BIOS has.
From your description of the problem, it sounds as if you may have encrypted the entire disk instead of just the C: volume or the BIOS ROM file is corrupt.
You should be able to get past the HP screen to enter the BIOS.
The BIOS should give complain that it cannot find a drive with a bootable OS.
If that does happen, and you have the recovery disk set or usb recovery media, life is good and you will need to take a look at the Symantek forum to see how to proceed with your encrypted disk.
If it does not then, the problem lies with the BIOS on the system board.
Pressing the Esc key and having the startup menu appear is conditional on the BIOS being in good condition. Yours may be corrupt. Try downloading a BIOS softpaq on another PC, extracting the BIOS ROM file and putting it on the root of a usb thumbdrive. Put the thumbdrive in a USB port in the notebook. Press the power button and immediately hold down the Windows key and begin tapping the B key. If this works and you see an led flash, release the keys and wait. the process should load a clean BIOS file to replace the corrupted one. This takes time, so be patient if you see a flashing led or no reaction from the notebook for a couple of minutes.
Post your results here and we can move on to the next steps you can take.

Adobe reader 11.0.07 can not access help option

I just downloaded adobe reader 11.0.07 version and I haven't signed up for the paid options, I only use this for reading
Is this why I can't access help option on adobe reader 11.0.07?

Thank you for your email. My operating system is Windows XP and my default browser is google chrome.
When I click on help on Adobe Reader 11.0.07 and select "Adobe Reader XI Help". I receive an error message:
"Online help content cannot be displayed. Verify you can launch your web browser and have access to the internet."

Turned on fileVault AND firmware password, can't boot into verbose mode?

Just out of curiousity, I turned on fileVault AND firmware password on my retina macbook pro,
and when I boot up holding command-v, instead of getting the firmware password screen, I get the filevault password screen.
Is this normal and expected behaviour?

The firmware password disables that shortcut; verbose mode can still be used by using the Terminal to change the NVRAM boot arguments, which requires an administrator password.

I found this:
Some startup keys don't respond if both firmware password protection and FileVault 2 are enabled
Some startup key combinations that you can use when your Mac starts, such as those which use the Option or Command keys, may not respond if a firmware password has also been enabled.
If you have a firmware password enabled on your Mac, you must successfully enter that password before you can boot to another startup volume, or before you can access the Startup Manager.
Is it not so that if I boot from lets say a DVD or External HD, I will be asked for the Firmware PW before being allowed to go on?

I haven't tried it with FileVault so I can't tell you the answer for that question, but note that FileVault only affects to the internal drive, which would mean that you are not asked for FileVault. Another user has to confirm this

HT1352 Open Firmware password can't be opened - "legacy image should be converted"

Hi,
I have downloaded Open Firmware Password.dmg at the link provided in the article. Anytime I try to open it, a message comes up: "The following disk images couldn't be opened: Open Firmware Password.dmg, Reason: legacy image should be converted." What does this mean and what am I supposed to do? Can anybody help me please? Thanks!

I selected Recovery Partition and then Disk Utility after pressing option at startup. I went to that Mac OS X Boot thing on the list with the hard drives are (like the screen shot in this discussion https://discussions.apple.com/message/18168530#18168530), but I was not able to take any actions. All Buttons were shielded out. It would be very nice if you could describe what to do once more in detail, so that I might understand it better. Thank you!!

yes, i should expand.....the external hard drive i link iphoto to has had an error and basically the iphoto package is hoarding all of my photos so i'm searching everywhere i can to piece back the 1 TB of photos that are gone. data recovery is too expensive from what i have found so i'm left trying to do this! i have another external drive that backs up my entire system on a regular basis throughout the day. i was able to recover the iphoto library from a few months ago before it was deleted (it had been backed up). so i'm only missing a few months of photos now. i was hoping if i could access the trash files (if they're backed up on this drive) that i would find photographs that had been on my desktop and then i'd put in the trash......does that help clarify??? so i basically want to look in the trash bin that was backed up in several files on this drive (IF that's even possible!) thanks for your help!!!

Have you searched for iCal with Spotlight, or is iCal just missing from your Dock?
If you find it using Spotlight, just move it back to the Dock.
To reinstall iCal:
1. Insert the Leopard Installation disk into the computer.
2. The disk will appear on the desktop.
3. Double click on the "Optional Installs" folder.
4. Double click on the "Optional Installs.mpkg."
5. Click on (Continue) in Introduction.
6. Click on (Continue) in Software License Agreement.
7. Click on (Agree) to agree to the terms of the software license agreement.
8. Click on the disclosure arrow ▶ next to Applications.
9. Select (✓) iCal.
10. Click (Continue).
11. After iCal has been reinstalled, download and install the Mac OS X 10.5.8 Combo Update to bring iCal up to the most recent version.

My password can't access the computer again

Hello,
I've been using my notebook for over 3 year and I've only change my password like four times because I'm not good with passwords.
Something strange happen just now when I put on my notebook, normally when it comes up I will enter my normal password. Now the password I've been using for over a month is not working for it anymore its only telling me "incorrect password" or reset.
I don't have a reset disk too and I've tried all my recent passwords it not still working.

When I plug in my Ipod touch to my computer a warning appears "The program cant start because MSVCR80.dll is missing." I can not access my Itunes library. Also, an "error 7 Windows error 126" appears as well. Any ideas?

Can't access Tools/Options/Applications in FF 12.0

Every time I try to do the following in FF 12.0, the browser stops responding/hangs/freezes/basically says "sorry, dude:"
1. Download files either by right clicking and choosing "save" or clicking directly on it. This includes email attachments, videos, etc. I also cannot attach files to emails since the same thing happens the moment I hit "Browse."
2. Cannot access Tools/Options/Applications, usually getting the same results. In my various attempts to resolve this, I have been able to open that window, but the space where file associations are listed is empty.
If it's any help, when I've reverted back to FF 3.5.1.9, I can do all those things ... I just can't get "Words With Friends" to load in Facebook.
What I have done in an attempt to correct this issue:
1.) Everything, including deleting the various .rdf files, etc.
2.) Tried starting in safe mode, using every possible variation.
3.) Uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox around a hundred times, removing personal settings and cleaning the registry each time.
4.) Uninstalled and reinstalled Flash and Java three or four times each.
5.) Everything.
I am at my wit's end, thus the request for help. Unfortunately, if someone offers a solution, I've probably tried it.
Additional information: I did use firetune once, returned to the backup configuration I created, used it again and returned to the backup again. This seems to be right around the time the problems began, but I'm not positive.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Running WinXP Media, 512MB RAM, 32-bit, etc.

Actually, Matt, I have tried that, but I certainly am willing to try again. Do you suggest deleting the current profile and all its settings, deleting the profile and keeping the personal settings, or just adding another complete profile in addition to the one that currently exists?

Changed icloud username and password can't access other devices

I have three devices from which I use the same iTunes and ICloud account. I changed my username and password on the accounts yesterday. Now I am only able to get it to work on my IPhone 5S. My daughter's IPhone 4 and my IPad will not accept the new passwords. I can't access FaceTime or IMessage on those devices as it keeps prompting me that it is incorrect and to reset. If I reset, it won't work on my IPhone 5S. Help!

If you mean that Find My Phone is asking for a password to a different Apple ID to your current Apple ID and that ID is a previous version of your current ID, not an entirely different one.
This feature has been introduced to make stolen phones useless to those that have stolen them.
However it can also arise when the user has changed their Apple ID details with Apple and not made the same changes to their iCloud account/Find My Phone on their device before upgrading to iOS 7, or if you restore from a previous back up made before you changed your details and some other circumstances.
The only solution is to change your Apple ID back to its previous state with Apple at My Apple ID using your current password, you don’t need access to this address if it’s previously been used with your Apple ID, once you have saved these details enter the password as requested on your device and then turn off "find my phone" and delete the account from your device. It may take a short while to remove the account.
You should then change your Apple ID back to its current state, save it once again and then log back in using your current Apple ID. Finally, turn "find my phone" back on once again.

There is no page setup in iOS. Some apps such as Pages let you pick a page size. Some apps fo not.

Changed iTunes password, can't access purchased programs

I changed my iTunes password and now I can't access all the TV shows I purchased. I tried using the old password but that didn't work. Perhaps I made a mistake but I don't want to loose all the stuff I'd bought. Any suggestions?
