Missing Font - I've Tried Everything!
PC - Windows XP Pro
InDesign CS3
I've been working on some programs and ran into trouble today with some fonts showing up missing. I've read the Help files and message board but whatever information I'm finding, it's not working.
In this case I'm using Vivaldi Italic (TrueType) and Centaur (TrueType). I've tried copying these fonts, actually all my fonts, from the Windows font folder directly into InDesign folder. No change.
I then copied just the Vivaldi font into C:/Program Files/Common Files/Adobe/Fonts and still nothing.
What is the trick to this?
Also,the printing firm uses Macs and said that even if I sent them the font they would not be able to install it on the Mac. Is that true?

The fonts you mention are TrueType fonts that come either with Windows or Office. I seem to have no problems seeing these fonts from within Adobe applications. You shouldn't have to copy them anywhere.
Do you have any third party font managers running on your system? If so, maybe the problem lies there.
You should also try deleting all the Adobe font cache files from your system, any file of the form
AdobeFnt##.lst where
## is a two digit number. Corrected versions of these file are automatically regenerated if missing when an application starts up.
Windows OpenType and TrueType fonts install on Mac systems (unless it is an ancient MacOS 9 or earlier system) without any problem. Your printer is terribly misinformed. HOWEVER, you cannot simply send a copy of your fonts to your printer unless your printer is licensed to use them. The fonts you mention are sourced by Microsoft from Monotype. Although Microsoft distributes them with Windows or Office (can't tell), neither Apple nor Microsoft installs them on the Macintosh. Thus your printer would need to explicitly go and license those fonts from Monotype.
A much better solution would be to export PDF from InDesign with all fonts embedded and have your printer print from the PDF file! Then you would not need to send any fonts to the printer.

Where did you store your iPhoto library? On an external drive or your system drive?
iPhoto will create a new, empty library, if it cannot open or find your previous iPhoto library.
If you upgraded from iPhoto '08 or earlier, the iPhoto library needs to be prepared with iPhoto Library Upgrader. See this link: iPhoto '11: About the Library Upgrader
If you got error messages during the upgrade of the library, restore your iPhoto Library from your most current backup. -
Convert PDF Button missing in Outlook 2010 *tried everything*

I have Office 2010 and Acrobat Pro X on Windows 7
I don't have the Adobe buttons in the ribbon in Outlook, (nor in other Office apllications, but that's ok). I can't right click on an email in Outlook and have it converted to PDF because I don't have this option.
I tried everything:
I went to the Add Ins in Outlook, the AdobePDFMAker Com is not there.
I tried adding the dll (both the OfficeAddin and the PDFMOutlook dlls) Outlook 2010 tells me that they are not recognized Office AddIns.
I tried registering the DLLs (Both of them as well), only the OfficeAddin would be registered, the PDFMOutlook would give me an error.
I restarted, tried, and restarted again, nothing is working. I basically went through the possible steps on this page: http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/pdfmaker-unavailable-office-2007-office.html
No result.
If anyone can help, I would be quite quite grateful!
NinoAre you on Vista? I am seeing different things on Adobe.com talking about how v7 is not compatible with Vista.
I think I remember someone in the past also mentioning that v7 does not work with Office 2007, although we never had issues with that, when we were still on v7.

Help desperately needed - missing SMS icon - have tried EVERYTHING!

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
For no apparent reason, about a week ago the SMS icon on my BlackBerry Curve 8900 completely disappeared. In addition, now when my phone boots up, a message appears stating ’Uncaught exception: java.lang.NullPointerException’
I have tried finding a solution online, and have attempted to do all the suggested fixes including:
- Pulling the battery out while phone is still on, and then reinserting
- Using the ‘Show All’ option
- Changing Themes
- Choosing to SEPARATE in Messages options
I can view some of my SMS messages by : Messages folder > View Folders > SMS Messages However, many of my recent SMS messages are missing from here. And when I send test SMS messages to that device from another phone, not all of them are received! In addition – and MORE IMPORTANTLY (to me) – when I try to view my saved SMS messages by : Messages folder > View Folders > Saved Messages only about 10 saved messages appear; when in fact there should be nearer 100!
Without getting too sentimental, many of my saved SMS messages were from people who are unfortunately no longer in my life, and I want to be able to read them again. I could not bear for them to be lost forever. I really hope someone can help me with this.
Thanks so much in advance for any help or advice you can offer – very gratefully received.The only way to get your SMS icon back is to reload your OS using BlackBerry Desktop Software. I can't guarantee you'll get all your messages back but at least you'll have the icon from which to view your messages.
To reload your OS, plug your phone in to your PC and open BlackBerry Desktop Software. Once your phone has connected to the software, click Device at the top of the software then click Backup and Restore. Do a data backup. When the backup has been done, follow the same path I suggested but this time at Backup and Restore click Restore and load the backup file you just created. This will restore your SMS icon.

Please help. Half my contacts are missing and think I've tried everything!

Sorry this is a long post but I'm a bit desperate and hope you can help:
I dont have a PC or ipad or anything but do have an iphone 5 and over the weekend my emails (to my live.com account) weren't sending off my phone.
So I deleted the live/hotmail account and reinstalled the account. I noticed that upon re-installation there was no option for 'contacts', just 'notes' and 'calendar' but I didnt pay it much attention as I have an exchange account listed on my phone which features contacts, email, notes, calendar etc etc.
Yesterday out of the blue some of my contacts went missing (after sending a text to a person, a few hours later their name vanished). I deduced that all the contacts that had vanished were email addresses and newer numbers (over the past few years).
I still had the 334 numbers I've accumulated over the past 10 years.
So today - after looking at apple community help sites - I took the following steps:
- Checked all contacts groups were ticked (they were)
- Tried switching the contacts box on and off.
- I deleted my newly installed Live Account as it seemed unnecessary as I could send/receive emails on my exchange account.
- I then deleted my exchange account and re-installed it.
- Hey presto, all the numbers and emails addresses which had vanished came back.
- BUT DOOM... all my initial numbers have gone. This is really bad (relatives, work mates, boss etc etc all lost).
- So then I tried to look at how to ask iCloud to sync contacts but couldn't really find an answer anywhere.
- So I tried to log into my iCloud on a public computer to check what contacts I had and move them manually but after logging on (for first time ever) using my iCloud email address and also my live.com email address, no contacts we listed as being in the Cloud.
- In terms of synching data all I could find was an instruction to turn the 'contacts' tab in icloud off (whilst keeping contacts on iphone) then switching it back on and asking it to merge.
But this didnt achieve anything new.
- So I repeated the step above and then as instructed on one post selected iCloud backup. This hasn't helped either and I'm worried that I have updated my icloud to only include my Exchange contacts and not my old numbers.
So I'm panicking that i'll never get my important numbers back! Any advice?
My only glimmer of hope is that when I changed from iphone 4 to iphone 5 earlier this year, all of my data was switched using the icloud function (but possibly my live/hotmail account too), which suggests to me that icloud does have all the numbers.
I still have the iphone4 handset too - so could perhaps get the numbers off that? But I don't know how so any advice very welcome!!
Please.I'm not sure if this will help you or not and you may have tried it already. But, I was having problems with my 20gb ipod (same one you have) and tried everything, including taking it to a local repair shop and even considered just chucking it. Then I read in one of these posts to simply reboot my computer. So I did and guess what, it worked. I felt like such an idiot but sometimes the simplest fixes are the ones you overlook. I don't know if itunes 7 needed a reboot or if there was a problem because other users (my wife) were logged into their user accounts also, but try doing that.
I hope that does the trick for you. If not, sorry I couldn't have been any more help. -
My iphone icon shows in itunes but is missing from my computer desktop. It is detected as a iphone camera device. I have tried everything from uninstalling-reinstalling, disabling-enabling, and updating. Still no iphone icon showing in my computer desktop. I have been troubleshooting this for 7 days with no luck! Please help?

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

I'm trying to replace a missing font and apparently it's a graphic. It's not letting me replace with another font and click change. I can't export until it's fixed and I need to fix / bypass as soon as possible.
Go find the graphic in question, and open it in its native program. The problem will have to be fixed there.

The App store, FaceTime, iTunes, Safari and Camera are all missing from my iPad. Restrictions are not enabled and when they are those applications are grayed out. I have tried everything but restoring my iPad to its orginal condition. What do I do?

Missing Font, But Font Isn't In the Document

We're all using FrameMaker 10 on Windows 7.
My client and I are receiving the good old missing fonts error message, specifically:
The "ITC Stone Serif Std Medium Ital Italic" Font is not available.
It will be replaced by "Times New Roman Italic".
The "ITC Stone Sans Std Semibold" Font is not available.
It will be replaced by "Times New Roman".
First, the fonts are installed.
Second, Remember Missing Font Names is turned OFF. (Unchecked, cleared, etc.)
Third, the fonts are NOT in the document. I have saved the document as MIF. I have searched for the font names. Nothing. When I open the MIF file in FM, I don't get an error. But I save it as a .fm file, open it, and I receive the same error messages.
We don't use these fonts. We don't want them in our documents. I'm doing a massive clean up to get rid of old formats. About half of the files do not have any problems, but half do. I have tried everything:
- Generating a list of fonts. If the fonts are found, then I go in and manually apply the Default Para Font. Usually, doing this removes the font from the list of fonts. However, I still get the messages.
- Importing formats from a known good file.
- Editing the MIF, to the point of removing the entire paragraph, character, font, and table catalogs. (I started by deleting references to ITC Stone x, then went on to the more drastic measures.)
- Changing the default printer.
- Copying the text and pasting it into blank files based on known good files.
- I tried editing the maker.ini file to substitute fonts directly, but that didn't work. I may have been doing that wrong, though.
I've got over 10 years of FM experience, and I've never encountered a font problem that editing the MIF couldn't fix.
All of the documents came over from Frame 6. They're all in the same book.
We need to be able to work on the book file as an entity, without having to open the files that contain errors and leave them open.
Does anyone have any ideas?

~RobynI found the problem, but I'm not sure why it was a font problem to begin with:
Unresolved cross-references.
FM couldn't open all of the files in the book. Therefore, it couldn't update cross-references. It "thought" cross-references were unresolved.
I figured this out by deleting one page at a time from a Bad file. Then, I deleted one paragraph at a time from the Bad pages to determine that the cross-references were causing the problem.
I was cleaning up the book - deleting paragraph, character, cross-reference, table, and conditional text formats and master and reference pages. I then imported formats from a known Good file. The more files FM could open without errors, the fewer font errors I received. After I was able to generate/update the book, the font errors were gone.
Some of the font calls were on a reference page that was found only in select files. However, one would think that would show up in the MIF.
My best guess is that FM couldn't update the cross-reference formats without updating the cross-references, so it "thought" the text was still in the wrong font. That begs the question: Which came first, the unresolved cross-references or the missing fonts?
Of course, it doesn't explain why FM was complaining about a font that is installed.

Missing Fonts in Photoshop CS4
I opened an existing CS2 photoshop file in CS4 and I get a missing font error. The font that it can't find is on my system.
How do I "add" this font so PS can see it?
Thanks.Yeah, I hear ya. But this seems to be a big complaint with 64 bit systems. And since all fonts show up and work fine in all other programs... seems like another adobe bug to me.
If you want to be a bit specific, Arial has 10 types. Only two show up. Regular and bold. And I'm not alone with this problem.
This was a bug (from what I read) in office 2007. But I never used 2007. However it wasn't a problem in office 2003 nor is it with my current version of 2010. As I said, no problems whatsoever with anything except... photoshop cs4 64. (works fine in 32 bit vista)
Now, FWIW, I haven't played much with font directories in the past, but it seems win7 is putting them into their own... kind of "folder". (could be wrong)
That is, in arials case, for instance, they aren't spread out. As... arial normal, black, bold, etc. They seem to be all lumped in to one. Click on it and they all open for display and are all there but I don't remember them that way in older windows progs.
But as I said, everything is fine in notepad, wordpad, excel, word, etc. etc. etc. A corrupt font is one thing, but I can't see a corrupt font working in everything but one program. And they DO work in dreamweaver.
Ok... update. As I said, tried putting them (the arials) in the adobe font directory (which I said was empty). Nothing. Tried again and it duplicated them. Still nothing. Went in and dumped the duplicates... seems to be working.
So, problem kinda solved. Just no clue why.

Missing Font in Imported Excel File
I keep getting a "missing font" preflight error on an imported Excel chart placed into Indesign. Indesign CS4 wants me to apply a different font to the original file in Excel. The font in the original file is Arial. And Arial has been "installed" correctly. Not sure exactly why I keep getting this error. I've also tried changing the font to something else and I get the same error. Its as if the "Arial" Excel uses is not the same "Arial" that Adobe uses.
This is how I'm importing the Excel chart. I used the Adobe Acrobat distiller to convert the XLS to a PDF. Then I place the PDF file where I need it in my Indesign document. I export the file as a PDF because its easier to work with since I don't need to make any changes to the chart itself. I also find that Indesign doesn't like working with bigger Excel files for example, the selection box doesn't include the entire chart and its difficult to adjust the cells since Indesign adjusts the cell widths to be more narrow. If I import it as an unformated table, everything looks terrible and I end up spending so much time trying to get the chart to look the way I want it to.
Anyone having the same issues? I'll thinking about just ignoring the preflight warning as I can't find a way around this.Basically I create the chart in Excel with the font "Arial", I then use the "Convert to Adobe PDF" button on the top of the toolbar. It does it's process of converting it then acrobat will open and show me the converted file. The file looks just the way it did in Excel which is what I want. I'm not exactly sure how to embed the font during this process. To me it seems that it should automatically do that when acrobat converts the file. I then "Place" the file into my Indesign document. Once placed the chart looks perfect and there are no highlighted missing font fields. Its just when I do a preflight check is when the error message appears.

ATM Light and Missing Fonts in Designer
When I try to open pdf files created on my computer in Designer, it suggests that all of the fonts are not in my system and wants to replace them. Of course they are there, they were just applied to text in the design program before I made the pdf file. I have ATM Light installed to manage fonts on my Windows 2000 computer. I'm wondering if others with ATM Light see the same behaviour. I've read that fonts need to be in the system fonts or designer subdirectory in order for them to be used by Designer. With ATM Light, I am able to store fonts anywhere on my computer and have Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, etc use them with no trouble. Is this not the case for Designer?
For some reason i tried booting in safe mode before i wanted to reinstall things. And in safe mode everything was ok, all the fonts were working, menus were ok etc.
So i went back into normal mode and it looks quite ok, but context menus are still missing fonts and even more odd... when i'm in fontbook for example the finderbar has the default font, but in safari and finder itself the font changes to something old again.
I'm kind of scared to reinstall and archive things because i have lots off settings for wireless printers and internet locations on my mac school set for me. And i think i cannot really move those files back and let them work after the install... -
Missing font in iweb "seville"
Trying to edit iweb from 2nd mac, I transferred domain.site2 from original mac (where everything looks fine and is editable)to a thumbdrive, then dragged to corresponding folder on my second mac. When iweb opens the "seville" font is missing. I looked in the font folders and it is nowhere to be found

That is the problem. It's not.
Yes, the font shows up on other computers as well. Because I used "seville" and it is NOT a web safe font I had to use the trick where you apply shadow to the text and basically make it a picture file in iweb.
At home I have the last gen mac mini. I used to keep my G5 tower at work and edit the iweb page between the two by transferring the domain.site2 file with a usb stick. Had no issues.
I sold the G5 and have replaced it with the newest generation iMac. This is the machine that is not locating the "seville" font.
When opening iWeb the page loads but as soon as I click on one of the pages to edit it says "Missing Font" "Seville". "To include missing fonts, add them to your fonts folder, then quit and reopen iWeb".
I have 30+ pages and use the Seville font as a link on EVERY page. It is NOT an option to use another font. Can't I just download the font from apple and put it in the folder? This seems like it should be really easy...
Is the Seville font incompatible on new iMacs? That doesn't seem likely. By the way, my page loads accurately when I open it on the internet from the new iMac
