Missing Font  issue - Delete styles in styles drawer?

Every time I launch Pages (v. 2.0.2) I get a drop down type of message: The Following errors occurred while trying to open this document: Missing Font TimesNewRomanMS.
I don't get it. Times New Roman shows up in the fonts in Pages. It is also in my Font Book. Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this is happening?
Second: I create a newsletter for our church. I have created a template that works well for the information I need to put in it. Would you recommend deleting some of the items in the styles drawer that I will not use? Just wondering...Thanks in advance....Karen

Karen,
Times New Roman isn't the same as Times New Roman MS. The "MS" stands for Microsoft, and the document you're trying to open may have been created with that version of Times New Roman. The fact that you get that error message probably indicates that the document was created on a computer that had Office installed. You can probably fix this by highlighting all the text with the MS version, then changing it to the Times NR you have on your computer.
No need to delete styles, unless their very presence bugs you. They don't add any extra baggage to the document.

  • Iweb missing font issue

When I open iweb I get a pop up window which tells me that there's a missing font CourierNewPSMT
Could someone tell me how to get rid of it, and it only happens in Freestyle template
I couldn't find CourierNewPSMT font anywhere

    Hi,
I suddenly started getting messages in iWeb that said the Font "ArialMT" is substituted for the missing font "Arial".. But it was only happening on new pages I had created.. Can't say what had changed much on my system for this to occur.. But had me baffled because FontBook HAD Arial and NO ArialMT..
Anyway to cut a long story short.. I didn't want Arial as the font anyway as we're changing over to Verdana.. It didn't matter if I selected all on the webpage and changed it all to Verdana, i'd still get the error message regarding ArialMT and Arial..
So my fix was to navigate to: ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/
    1. Copy the file "Domain" somewhere else as a backup (desktop is good)
    2. Right click on the "Domain" file inside ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/ and Show Package Contents
Now this is where many people say open index.xml.gz and look for the problem fonts.. Well in my experience index.xml doesn't have any code regarding fonts.. SO another folder caught my attention inside "Domain" called "domain-0B29016B-4545-4DC4-9DDB-74AA1E25AJ34.. If you have this folder it will probably have a different string of letters and numbers to mine..
    3. Go into your "domain-xxx etc" folder and navigate down to the first compressed xml file you can fint.. I had like 30 because I have almost 30 blog type pages in my site (just the way its designed I guess).. Anyway if you uncompress the .xml.gz file you've found and open that in text edit you'll probably be able to find font information in there.
As I had many to have to find and replace on I found it easier, to select all the .gz files and open them all together which mass uncompressed them in their relative locations.. Then I had to go through and delete the original .gz files otherwise iWeb won't save and publish the code changes you make. In otherwords, you need to have ONLY .xml files left over and iWeb will recompress them when you save in iWeb next.. I also used dreamweaver to mass find and replace the code, but textedit can do it one by one.
Hope this helps anyone having this issue..
I know if I went and made a brand new page in iWeb it will get this font issue again on the new page.. So my next task is to find the original template files and change the font instances in it so new pages don't cause headaches..

  • Missing Font issues

I opened a CS2 In Design document from a co-worker on to my computer and the Adobe font called, Palatino, which Ive had installed on my computer for ages would not show up on this document. I removed the suspect font (Palatino Type 1) through the Control Panel, and reinstalled it via Adobe Font Manager 4.1. This did not help. I do not have any other Palatino versoins on my computer.
Even after installing it, the font still shows as missing.
    Can you help?
    Thanks,
    Kathy

You bet. I've checked and double-checked. What is really wierd is that I can open another In Design document that is using the same font, and it is perfectly ok.

  • Missing font issue

    Hi
I am currently still using FWCS3
When opening a document, I got the popup warning that a font wasnt installed on my system etc.
But, the font is on my system, I went into the fonts folder in windows and checked.
How can I get FW to recognise the font?
    Cheers
    Fiona

I've been having similar issues in CS4 not CS3. When I recently opened the CS3 file in CS4, all the fonts got screwed up. I contacted the developer of FontAgent Pro and they were unable to help.  It works in CS3.  Aside from the horror I have experienced with type, i run into features that are "only available for the PC" . . . even the export icon which worked in CS3 is grayed out now!  I haven't tried it yet, but I hope I can save my file back to CS3. I've used Fireworks almost from the beginning, so I am very disappointed.  I can't afford to upgrade yet to CS5, but if it's not any better, why bother.
Egads, I've lost two days just trouble shooting.
If someone has a suggestion, I'd appreciate it.  I'm on a Mac using OS 10.5.8
I have no problems with Photoshop CS4 or Illustrator CS4 [which still is inferior to Freehand]
Adobe's condemnation of Apple for not allowing Flash on the iPhone is unfounded.  If Flash is as buggy as Fireworks, no wonder Apple does not want to to have anything to do with Flash.  And what's with PCs having more features then the Mac, and Mac sometimes having to wait a year before they get even get the "features".
Oh yes, there is one feature in Fireworks CS4 I like.  The "Photoshop Live Effects," but that was once available in the Macromedia version and got dropped when Adobe bought Macromedia.

  • Missing font issue - even though the font is installed

    Hi,
I have a InDesign document with a EPS link in it. This EPS contains a mathematical equation, which is created with the font called 'System (T1) Medium'. When I open the InDesign document it says that the font is missing (in the 'Find Font' dropdown) and the equation's mathematical symbols are replaced by a different font showing wrong symbols.
The font is installed and the EPS file shows up correctly when viewed in Illustrator.
What can I do from here? I use Windows 8 and InDesign CC.
    Thanks!

I managed to convert them all by using an Action in Illustrator.
Is there a way/script to rename all the links in my InDesign document at once, so I don't have to replace them all manually?
    Link1.eps would be Link1.ai
    Link2.eps would be Link2.ai
    ...and so on.
    Thanks!

  • Reg: Missing fonts in InDesign

    Hi,
I am finding missing fonts when I publish a PDF document from InDesign CC file.
I tried to install the custom fonts in my system, but the installation is not getting completed.
I am using the fonts like, Akzidenz-Grotesk and Helvetica family fonts.
Please give me a solution to fix the missing font issue.
    Thanks,
    Srilakshmi

Do the fonts show as missing in Find Font? How are you making the PDF?

  • [JS CS3] Referencing a missing font in a paragraph style

I'm stuck on trying to figure out how to reference a font name in a paragraph style if the font is missing. I've got:<br /><br />for (myCounter=0; myCounter<app.documents.item(0).paragraphStyles.length; myCounter ++) {<br />   myParagraphStyle=app.documents.item(0).paragraphStyles.item(myCounter);<br />   if (myParagraphStyle.name.indexOf("[")!=0){<br />      if (myParagraphStyle.appliedFont.name == myFindFontName){<br />         myParagraphStyle.appliedFont = app.fonts.item(myChangeFontName);                            }}}<br /><br />The "myParagraphStyle.appliedFont.name" reference works properly as long as the font used in the paragraph style is present on the system. If the font is missing, then InDesign doesn't seem to "know" its name for me to reference in this manner.<br /><br />Does anyone know a way to do this? Thanks.

Bummer! Thanks for letting me know, so I can stop banging my head against the wall trying to figure it out.
Your approach with the dummy font is clever, but won't help me in this case. I'm trying to automate the "Find Font" process for a group of users. They've used a particular group of fonts for thousands of files, and are switching to a different family of fonts. They want to have ONLY the new family installed. So I wanted to create a script they could run the first time they open each file that would find each old font and replace it with the new font. My script works great for all the text in the file, but not the Paragraph and Character styles.
Can anyone think of another approach? I'm out of ideas on this one.

  • Font issue - in all my replies, sent and forwarders the font is different size and style.

font issue - in all my replies, sent and forwarders the font is different size and style. Sometimes it changes while I am typing in mid sentence. I tried to adjust using tools, options, advanced. But nothing seems to stick. How can I make all emails have same font style and size?

I do not know how up to date this is, but there are menus listed in how the message displays when you compose and open an email. [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Font_settings_in_Thunderbird#Message_display] That may help you set the preferences.

  • How do you change the font InDesign uses when no style is applied?

All my InDesign templates (CS4) are now looking for [Times (T1)] in odd places such as spaces between words in a header, the space after the last period in a paragraph or blank returns between paragraphs. I tried all the normal suggestions (checking every character and paragraph style including "basic paragraph", selecting a font in the charater pallette with and without a document open, and even clearing indesign preferences and cache files). After all this, I created a brand new blank document to test whether or not this occured in anything other than my template files. I didn't create any styles at this point, just drew a text box and started typing. In the new document the first line is in the font I chose, but when I hit return the next is in Times. It appears that after the return InDesign switches from Basic Paragraph back to "no styles". Is there a way to change this default font or prevent blank spaces and returns between paragraphs from turning to this setting? Thanks for any suggestions. With one file it's not that big of a deal to find and replace but when you start working with a book containing many files it is quite a hassle to wade through the missing font windows in order to verify it is only this and not an actual font missing.

    With no documents open.
    Go the Paragraph Styles Panel
Clear Overides for the Basic Paragraph
    Edit the style
And change "Apply Next Style" to "[Same Style]"

  • Unknown font name appearing in some styles

After importing xml and applying fonts with XML rules, there are some places in my document - typically, lines with nothing but an insertion point from a \r above - that have [No Paragraph Style] or an existing style applied, however, the Font and Font Style are [Times] and [Roman] respectively. I don't know where these come from, and do not know how to get rid of them.
So, when I save and reopen the document, I get a missing font dialog.
At first I thought it was only with [No Paragraph Style] instances, so I could solve by replacing those. However, it seems to be wherever an carriage return is added in the text at the end of existing styles. So, replacing all of a specific style with an existing will not work.
I need to find and replace all instance of the Font - and yet, I see from other posts that in InDesign CS 3 5.0 I cannot find missing fonts with a script.
Does anyone know of a solution?
    Thanks for your help.

Perhaps it's some sort of incompatibility with Quicktime, which is the foundation of the iLife apps.
A workaround might be to create your menu background in Photoshop, using your new font, and export a jpg version. You'll be able to drop this onto iDVD's background (not into a drop box) and it will replace the existing theme background.

  • How to Change the (Missing) Font in Endnotes

Hello and thanks (again) in advance,
My preflight report showed that I have 170 errors: they are all missing fonts in the numbers of the endnotes.
Some of the Endnotes are in the Times New Roman Font, but for some reason, 170 endnotes are not. This is a font problem with the "number" part of the endnotes -- the text in the endnotes is all Times New Roman.
What I would like to do is to change the font from the missing one (Cambria Regular) to Times New Roman.
The endnotes were imported when I placed this MS-Word document into InDesign.
Here's what I tried, that failed:
    1. Fix the font problem when I opened the file, and InDesign showed missing fonts. (This fixed the fonts -- changed them from Cambria to Times New Roman) for all the text, but did not touch the numbers in the endnotes.
    2. Search and Replace for the number of the Endnote -- the numbers were ignored by the search.
    3. Search and Replace for the number of the Endnote, with the "Include Footnotes" button highlighted
    4. Search and Replace for Cambia Regular text (although I might not have done that correctly.) ... I left the "Find What" box blank, and in the "Find Format" box I selected Cambria Regular. ... Nothing was found.
    5. I deleted one of the numbers -- endnote 202 -- "by hand", and then retyped the number. This did change the font, but it had the bad effect of ruining the endnote numbering system: it made the next endnote (number 203) below it into number "1" and the endnote after that "2"
Also, I wondered if it "broke" the entire endnote system -- If there is some connection between the number that I deleted, and the corresponding superscript number in the text itself.
Here (below) is a screen shot of my pre-flight report.
You can see that some of the numbers in the endnotes,  (for example: 200 and 202) are in the correct font; but endnote numbers 201, 203, 204 are not in Times New Roman.
I am stuck ... Suggestions are welcome and appreciated !
    ZtG

Since ID doesn't really support endnotes, I suspect they were imported as a numbered list, particulary considering the uselectablility and find/change sympotoms you describe. Bullets and numbers in lists aren't "real" characters that can selected.
Find font should probably have done the trick if the numbers were assigned a style in the list definition AND you checked the update styles when changing all box in Find Font, so I'm also going to guess that you either didn't check the box or there is no style assigned to the numbers (and I suppose it's possible they aren't really a list).
The best solution would be, I think, to first verify that they the endnotes are a list, and to assign a character style to the numbers.

  • Missing fonts warning when adding pages to a book

I have a book with 13 documents added and 105 total pages. I have 10 master pages set up, and each time I add (or delete) pages to a document, I get warning: "The document <doc>.indd needs to be updated but has missing fonts. It may recompose with a default substitute font and result in inacurate page numbers. Do you want to continue updating numbering?"  If I click OK to continue updating the numbering, sometimes an extra page gets added somewhere else in the document. Preflight Book is not showing any errors and I also tried looking at the preflight panel in each of the 13 documents. Neither says anything about a missing font. How else can I find it? Thanks!

It could be in overset text (though preflight should see that) or in a style not currently in use. Are you sure the priflight profile is looking for missing fonts, bucasue is really does sound like there is substitution ocurring. Also, have you looked in Type > Find Font.
If none of that is fruitful, I'd try exporting each of the documents to .inx or .idml, then opening those and saving as new .indd docs. Add the new docs to a new book and see if you still get errors.

  • How to get rid of missing font "Wingdings Light Italic"?

The screenshot shows a bulleted list. The text is set in Myriad Pro Light Italic. The bullet is a square symbol from Wingdings, which I guess is trying to adapt to the styles from the body text, resulting in Wingdings Light Italic, which obviously does not exist.
I have tried using a separate character style for the bullet, setting the font to Wingdings regular. Also, I tried to simply delete the whole text frame, but the missing font keeps showing up, weirdly enough.
The bullets are displayed perfectly. I just would like to get rid of that missing font error. Any ideas?

That somehow did the trick. Replaced Wingdings Light Italic with Wingdings Regular. Replaced all, and redefined styles. Thanks.

  • I get a "missing fonts" message even if fonts are installed

I work on a Keynotes document at my work office and bring it home at night to continue making corrections. Both computers have the same system (OS X 10.8.5) smae Kenotes version (5.3) and same fonts installed (Helvetica Neeu family and Joanna MT family). When I open my keynotes document on my home computer, I always get the "missing fonts" message as if they were not in my computer. I do get an option in that window to replace fonts by other ones but when I scroll down the menu, I only the family of fonts and can't access the different styles in that family.... Anyone had that problem????

    Hi Gary,
Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, I have tried with a few version of Helvetica and have really made sure I brought the same fonts from the office to my mac (as well as Joanna MT). Fonts are not corrupted in Font Book and all software versions are up to date and similar from home to office.
So I'm wondering if it would have anything to do with the use of templates (masters) in Keynote. Our document is constructed on a custom template and when I bring the document to my mac at home, the templates follow the document... but maybe i need to reload them or something?
Anyways, I have decided to plan a meeting at my Apple Store with a Keynote specialist to show him the problem in person... Hope this will help resolve the issue.
    Cheers,
