Missing Fonts in Flash Text List

I am using Dreamweaver CS3 on a Windows XP computer. In the
"Insert Flash Text" dialog box, in the font drop down menu, I am
not seeing all of my installed fonts. I see a few OpenType and a
few True Type fonts, but more than half of my installed fonts are
not showing up in the list. I can see all my fonts in the "Edit
Font List" box for creating font families in Dreamweaver. So I know
parts of Dreamweaver can see all of my fonts.
I am totally stumped why some fonts aren't available for
flash text. Any suggestions? Thanks.

What has always replaced it - images, or some image
replacement technique
like sIFR, or TIP.

You mean you are taking a class from an Adobe Certified
Instructor, and
he/she is requiring that? Who is that? What a waste of class
time....

  • Missing fonts in flash menu

    i'm wondering if anyone else has encountered this issue. i've
    got a collection of fonts in various formats all installed on my
    pc. several key fonts however, are not included in the flash font
    menu when i launch flash. they range in format (truetype, opentype
    and type 1, etc..), so i don't necessarily think it's a
    compatibility issue, but i've noticed that the fonts being left out
    seem wildly arbitrary. even amongst fonts within the same family.
    The prime example being an assorted library of helvetica neue font
    faces that i have. I've got around 40 or 50 different variations of
    this typeface and only about half of them show up in flash. i've
    tried overwriting the fonts and restarting my machine and then
    flash with no luck. i've even tried renaming the fonts, etc, and
    converting formats. i have no idea what's going on.
    i should mention this has been somewhat of a problem for me
    even from within previous versions of flash. is there some
    technical aspect of flash with regards to how it displays and
    utilizes font files/families that i should be aware of? ideally i
    would think that the font engine for future releases of flash would
    more closely mirror that of adobe aps such as illustrator and
    indesign. does flash treat fonts in more or less the same way
    currently though? for instance, if i enter some static text, choose
    helvetica neue regular (55 roman or what have you) and then make
    the text bold, is that simply an approximation of bold that flash
    is applying, or is it actually referencing by proxy, the
    corresponding "bold" face in the helvetica family (75 bold)?
    at any rate, i'd really appreciate if anyone could shed a bit
    of light on this subject. hopefully this makes sense.

    I'm having a similar issue with the Avenir font family
    (PostScript). First it wasn't showing up in Flash at all, then it
    was and I was able to get some work done.
    I've got a PowerMac G5, and I'm running Flash 8.
    Then I was gone for the holiday weekend, and when I came
    back, not only is it saying that I don't have the fonts again, but
    they are actually still there, listed under slightly different
    names in Flash (12 Avenir 95 Black 09173 became Bl Avenir Black,
    for example). If I try to change the font links in Flash to the
    ones with different names in the Inspector or in the Font Mapping
    dialog box that comes up when I open the file, Flash 8 crashes
    completely.
    I've installed and run the latest version of Extensis
    Suitcase, and I don't have any corrupt fonts, so I need some help
    figuring out what to do!

  • Bold font in Flash not showing in SWF

    Hiya,
    Sorry if this is a dumb question - I'm not an expert with Flash.
    I'm adapting an off the shelf mp3 player and would like to make some text bold - namely [see: http://www.stevedrake.net/music_09] the text that shows the current artist/song at the top.
    This is dynamic text from an XML file. I've embedded the fonts [Verdana regular and bold - OpenType] in Flash CS5 but the bold won't display even though the special characters do display [Jónsi].
    Ta
    steve

    I know what you mean, the outlines embedded should be thicker because we "think" it's embedding the fonts as 2 separate classes. I don't think it's this simple internally. You can see in the font manager it groups fonts variants (regular/bold/italic all under the same font name). Internally it's actually keeping track.
    This is actually behavior I don't mind. My example was more complex than it needed to be. I like when fonts just map properly and actually all you need to do is set the .bold flag and it will automatically use the bold version of the font that's embedded. That tells me they're internally linked.
    e.g.:
    import flash.events.MouseEvent;
    import fl.text.TLFTextField;
    import flash.text.AntiAliasType;
    import flash.text.Font;
    import flash.text.TextFormat;
    var useBold:Boolean = false;
    // fonts
    var gRegFont:Font = new GRegular();
    // handler
    stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, handleClick);
    function handleClick(e:MouseEvent):void
        useBold = !useBold;
        // fix Flash's desire to mass-apply, set twice
        tf.bold = false;
        myTLFTextField.setTextFormat(tf, 0, 16);
       // now handle bolding
        tf.bold = useBold;
        myTLFTextField.setTextFormat(tf, 17, myTLFTextField.length);
    // TLFTextField init
    var myTLFTextField:TLFTextField = new TLFTextField();
    addChild(myTLFTextField);
    myTLFTextField.x = 10;
    myTLFTextField.y = 10;
    myTLFTextField.width = 400;
    myTLFTextField.height = 100;
    myTLFTextField.embedFonts = true;
    myTLFTextField.antiAliasType = AntiAliasType.ADVANCED;
    myTLFTextField.text = "This is my text: This is affected by format";
    var tf:TextFormat = new TextFormat(gRegFont.fontName,16,0x0,false);
    myTLFTextField.setTextFormat(tf,0,myTLFTextField.length);
    I don't even need to set the .font property at all. Internally it's linked and that works fine. I'm not even instantiating the bolded version, it's precompiled and available. I also forgot to set embedFont=true and some antialiasing but it works if you do or don't anyhow.
    Edit:
    Haha I see you were editing your post too. I think we're both on the same page seeing we said the same exact thing. Although I do need to set the non-bold TextFormat like I did setting from char 0-16 or the entire TextField (or TLFTextField) goes to bold. Setting both formats every time fixes the issue. I don't even need to keep setting a font, it's already saved in the formatting object. I just turn bold on and off.

  • Missing font makes Adobe InDesign CS4 6.0.4 crash

    Hi!
    I am having a problem with the latest version of Adobe InDesign CS4 (v 6.0.4).
    I opened an old document which contained two missing fonts.
    I was able to correct the first one by changing it to an existing font.
    But when I tried to correct the second one, the application crashed.
    I did this:
    1. Opened the document with the missing font (the first font was now already corrected).
    2. In the warning dialog window saying a font was missing, I clicked "Find Font".
    3. The missing font was called "Helvetica (T1) Bold Narrow". I set it to be replaced by "Helvetica Regular".
    4. Then I clicked "Change All".
    5. Indesign CS4 crashes.
    This is the information about the missing font (note that it says "First Used: na" which is strange):
    Filename: <not installed>
    Full Name: Helvetica
    First Used: NA
    Font: Helvetica (T1) Bold Narrow
    PostScript Name: Helvetica-Narrow-Bold
    Style: Bold Narrow
    Type: Type 1
    Version:
    Restrictions: Unkonwn (Font is missing)
    Path: Unknown (Font is missing)
    Character Count: 27
    Style Count: 0
    Styles:
    Page: none
    Does anyone have a solution, or is this a bug?
    Thanks

    Hi! Thanks for your answer.
    I am using Windows XP (SP3).
    I tried to export my INDD file (ID CS4 format) to an INX file.
    But that also made InDesign crash (perhaps because of the font thing).
    Unfortunately I can't change the missing font of the text because:
    * I can't see the text frame that contains the missing font.
    * InDesign crashes when using the "Find Font" function.
    However, this is not a big problem, I can still work with the file. But I will
    always get the annoying warning about the missing font, and I prefer to
    have no errors in my INDD files.

  • Flash Text not displaying certain fonts

    Thanks as always…
    I am trying to use Flash text for some headings, but after an
    hour of pulling my hair out I've just realised it will only display
    certain fonts, such as Helvetica etc.
    I added the font I want to use to my font list but it still
    does not display…
    I'm using MX on OSX 10.3.9.
    Any ideas? Thansk.

    Is your text in a dynamic text box, or static text box in
    flash?
    I don't think the issue concerns the "true-type" or not
    "true-type" font.
    In Flash, when text is part of a dynamic text box (which I
    assume is the case in your situation),
    then the font works just like in an html page:
    if the font is installed on the computer it will show, if
    not, it won't. The way around this, is to
    embed the font data in the authoring flash file, and link it
    to the dynamic text box, via actionScript.
    So if you cannot work on the authoring Flash file with Flash
    MX or Flash8, and if indeed we're
    talking about a dynamic text box, your only option is to use
    a web-safe font.

  • List missing fonts in Illustrator

    Hi all,
    I've been working on a script to try and build a list of font's that not loaded in Illustrator. I know that Illustrator will alert missing fonts when a document is opened but this routine will be part of a larger script that will have the user dialogs turned off. My process is to build a list of fonts that are available to the the application, then build a list of fonts that are used within the active document and cross reference them to see if there are document fonts that are not in the application fonts list.
    I have used a great function that I believe was posted originally by Moluapple and with some some brilliant advice from the always helpful CarlosCanto I thought that I had found the soultion but it appears to have some limitations. If I get a list of fonts available to the application and the document that I want to cross reference them against is open, the list that's returned contains fonts that are used in the document. Then when I get a list of fonts used in the document and cross reference them they will all be in the application list regardless of whether they're loaded or not.
    The only way that I can get accurate results are if I run the script without any documents open and build a list of application fonts, then open a document and build a list of document fonts and then cross reference. This is the only way I can find out what fonts aren't loaded.
    Does anybody know of another way to build a list of missing fonts without having to close documents first? I have searched through the XMP data and this doesn't seem to give me any clues and I've tried writing the code in applescript but it appears to work in the same way. Any help or comments would be welcome.
    Here's my code:
    #target illustrator
    var doclist = app.textFonts
    var appFontList = new Array ();
    for (i=0;i< app.textFonts.length; i++){
        var fontName = app.textFonts[i].name;
        appFontList[i] = fontName;
    var myfile = File.openDialog ('Choose a file');
    app.open (myfile);
    var docFontsList = getUsedFonts(activeDocument);
    // function accredited to Moluapple
    function getUsedFonts (doc ){
         var xmlString = new XML(doc.XMPString);

    Mark,
    you are a legend!!!!
    with yours and Carlos' help I think I have raged against the system that is Adobe and come out victorious!!!!!!!!
    I Finally have a script that doesn't tell me lies.
    Building a list of fonts that are available from InDesign, then building a list of fonts that the active Illustrator document is using and comparing the 2 lists I've managed to locate the fonts that aren't active. I'm sure the script could have some fine tuning but hopefully it might help others who just want to know if fonts are missing before creating a PDF that contains false font information.
    Thanks again all,
    Nik

  • See a list of all the missing fonts in document?

    Ive been sent a Photoshop document by someone but some of the fonts are missing.
    If I double click on a layer that is missing a font Im told what the font is. This can be time consuming so is there a way of seeing a list of all the missing fonts in a document?
    thanks

    Ann,
    In Acrobat Pro 9, go to: File --> Properties... --> Fonts
    I recommend that you ask further Acrobat questions in the Acrobat forum where those pros hang out. Thanks.

  • Find the Missing font text content in indesign document

    How to find and get the missing font content in the indesign documents by using the SDK. give a tips and techniques.
    Anybodys help me.

    It wont answer your question, but you could have this problem too:
    I have a problem in my current project where text frame having no text make the document report the usage of a font wich we dont want the project to use (times by exemple). The problem being that Indesign report usage of a font wich is in fact not applied to any text. Weird!
    The easy fix is to identify those items (text frame class + no text) and reassign them as "unassigned".

    What version of Pages '09?
    Have you updated it to the latest iWork '09 v4.3?

  • Just bought an .OTF font for Flash CS6 and it's not showing up in the list.

    Just bought an .OTF font for Flash CS6 and it's not showing up in the list.
    EscrowText-Roman.otf
    Any reason why? It shows up in Illustrator and Photoshop just fine.

    If you have never synced an audiobook yet, you have to connect your ipad and go to the books tab.
    Scroll down past the regular books and there will be where you sync your audiobooks.
    Then they will show up on the music app under "other"

  • Imported text from word, all missing fonts found, but still have pink boxes for Turkish language

    Hi,
    I placed a document from word. The body font is ITC Garamond. Apparently ITC Garamond doesn't have some Turkish characters. Adobe Garamond however, does. So I was going through and selecting each pink box and changing the character to a new character style I created which is the Adobe Garamond Font. Surely there's an easier way to do this rather than me selecting each pink box? Can GREP do this? I would use the Find Font dialogue, but it shows all fonts as being fine, it doesn't show any missing fonts. So this seems to just be a wierd issue with ITC Garamond not having those special characters.
    I know what you're thinking, why not just make my body font Adobe Garamond Pro.... Well I can't right now. Not for this job. Maybe in the future I will, but for not it has to stay ITC Garamond condensed Book.
    Also, I should note that in the preflight panel, InDesign does not show the document as having any missing Glyphs either.... so Peter's Glyph script won't work.
    Thanks in advance.

    In your case I would not add or change a character style, change your paragraph style. A mix between 2 similar fonts looks terrible. You might need a character style for language purposes, to get through with hyphenation correctly, but this is a different thing.
    To change a font globally go to search font and replace and redefine styles.
    But if you really does not want to change the font you can crate a character style. And in your paragraph style go to GREP styles and select this chara style and write all glyphs and letters where you need this character style.
    Take care, if you use a different font you might have to scale in advanced properties, so that a glyph from the other form fits to the rest of the text.

  • Flash CS3 - Missing Fonts Alert Dialog box not showing

    We seem to have lost the Alert dialog box when Flash CS3 Pro
    discovers there are missing fonts in a file. We still get the
    warning in the Output box but we get no Alert box to tells us
    actually which fonts we need to locate. This is happening
    regardless of file so it appears to be Flash issue and not a file
    issue.
    Anyone come across this before and anyone know how to fix?

    You need to make sure that the specific camera model is supported by the version of the ACR plug-in you have installed on your machine.
    The current version of ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) is ACR 4.5 and there is also ACR 4.6beta.
    What version are you running and what camera generated your raw files?

  • Missing fonts - Flash CS4 on Mac

    I am installing a new font on my Mac that I have to use for a project I have to start today.  The font installs OK, it works fine in Fireworks and even Word, but doesn't appear in Flash!
    I have used FontNuke to kill off the existing caches (not necessary for Fireworks, but have usually had success doing this in the past) but still no joy.
    What is going on?  It seems to be a frequent problem discussed all over the web, but I can't find a solution that works for me.
    Things I've tried...
    Convert original .TTF to .OTF
    Install as a Computer font, not just a user font
    Start Flash before any other app
    Start Flash after Fireworks
    I really need this to work, HELP PLEASE!!!
    Ta

    I'm sharing my solution as well so that it might help others out there who are desperate for a solution to fonts not showing up in Flash CS4 (and other versions) on OSX. I've spent so much time reading various message board posts and blog posts about this topic. There seems to be a lot of confusion and misinformation out there. Hopefully this can help someone out.
    In my situation, I had been using FontBook for years to install and "manage" my fonts. This meant that all my installed fonts were stored in User/UserName/Library/Fonts . Like most designers, I was managing thousands of fonts. I noticed that a lot of fonts weren't loading in Flash CS3 and later CS4. My solution at the time was to minimize the amount of fonts that I had active (I tried to keep it around ~500) and then do a Font Nuke and pray that they showed up in Flash. I'm sure if you're reading this thread that you can relate to all of the frustrations of getting something so trivial to work in Flash when it works in all other CS applications. This solution worked sporadically at best. This was beginning to affect my design work, because I knew that if I couldn't get a certain font family to load in Flash (despite endless nuking and font installing/reinstalling), that I should avoid using it in my proposed designs. This is a horrible feeling so I sought out a better way.
    Eventually I made the move to LinoType Font Explorer X (it's free too) to better manage my font library but the problems persisted. From Font Explorer X I could easily clear the System Font cache and the Adobe Caches but fonts didn't always show up as intended. I then noticed that even though I was using Font Explorer X, all my fonts were still residing in User/UserName/Library/Fonts. I decided to move them all out of there and pretty much start from scratch. I moved them all to another folder on my desktop and readded them to the Font Explorer X library and then activated ONLY what I needed. I found that this was the first time that everything worked as I had intended. Even though I had been nuking and using Font Explorer to clear all the caches, the fact that those thousands of fonts were still living in that Library/Fonts folder was messing it all up. Now that folder is empty and things are working properly.
    My advice: Avoid FontBook and use LinoType Font Explorer X to manage all of your fonts. Remove everything from User/UserName/Library/Fonts and place it into another folder. Import everything to the Font Explorer library and activate only what's needed.
