  • Missing fonts in iWork documents

My iWork apps keep giving me missing font document warnings when I launch Pages, Keynote and Numbers documents. This is a problem already reported by many other iWork users but I haven't found a satisfactory solution and I'm hoping someone here can help.
When launching an existing Pages document, I get this document warning:
Here's what I see in the Font Chooser. Helvetica has got some new variants like '.Light Oblique'. What the??
But if I quit Pages and then create a new document, I don't get any warnings. The Font Chooser also behaves as usual:
I've validated my fonts, deleted the font cache, repaired permissions in an attempt to fix the problem with no success. What should I do?

I'd like to add perhaps a slightly different perspective to this problem. I'm a graphic designer and use Insider Software's FontAgent Pro to manage all of the fonts on my machine. I use Font Book only to manage the few system fonts that are necessary to run the OS.
I keep the number of activated fonts to a minimum and regularly clean out the font caches to prevent any problems with all of the design apps that I use. I've done this for years and haven't experienced any font-related problems for a long, long time.
When I want to use Helvetica/Neue Helvetica (which is rarely), I use PostScript Type 1 versions of those fonts. I don't want to reinstall the dfont version of Helvetica, because that will create conflicts with the fonts in my commercial work.
Whenever I open or create an iWork document I get the Missing Font error mentioned in this thread. The new version of iWork lets me select a substitute font, but my choice never seems to "stick." Once I close the document and reopen it, the same message reappears. iWork seems to assume that every document must use the dfont version of Helvetica/Helvetica Neue, regardless of what I want.
Why can't I specify what font I'd like to use, and have it become the default for all of the iWork apps? Until Apple fixes this problem the whole suite will have to remain shelfware and I'll keep using Office. I'd prefer to use iWork, but at least Office doesn't insist on nagging me about my font choices.

  • IWorks asking for certain missing fonts

    Hi All,
I was wondering if anybody else was experiencing this issue too: Every time I open a template on any iWork '08 program I get a message saying that "some warnings occurred" and when I review the warnings it's always about some missing fonts. One of the fonts that it looks for is Helvetica Neue. I never had this font installed as far as I know. Is it supposed to be on my system somewhere? I'm running OS 10.4.10 on a G5 PowerPC. I also use Linotype FontExplorer X to manage fonts on my system. I used to use Suitcase Fusion but it was giving me too many issues.
Other missing fonts are for example:
    ArialMT
    ArialNarrow
    ArialNarrow-Italic
    Arial-Black
    AmericanTypewriter
    Baskerville
    Baskerville-Italic
    Copperplate
    Futura-Medium
    Futura-MediumItalic
    GillSans
    GillSans-Bold
    HelveticaNeue
    HelveticaNeue-Italic
    HelveticaNeue-Bold
    HoeflerText-Italic
    HoeflerText-Regular
    MarkerFelt-Thin
So basically what I am asking is this:
    1. Are the missing fonts supposed to be installed on my Mac somewhere? Were they shipped with OS X?
    2. How can I replace them without having to buy them? The Helvetica Neue family is very expensive!
    3. Are these fonts essential to the template's formatting, etc?
    4. Can I replace them with other fonts?
    5. How can I stop the warning message from popping up every time I use a template?
Thank you for any help in advance,
    jenzvan

Yes, I get these messages often, as well. Only I see them most often in Numbers. I would like to be able to disable these silly notices, but there aren't any preference settings to disable much, if anything.

  • Missing fonts in new iWork templates?

Most of the new iWork templates I bring up cause alerts to sound that they contained fonts, which are not on my system.
Shouldn't Apple only use fonts in iWork templates that are included with Macs?
Anyone else have this problem??? Very annoying!
    Thanks.

This has been an ongoing problem for quite a few users. Several things have been suggested that have worked for some users but not others. The most extensive thread I've found on the problem is this thread, especially this post which found the problem to be a cache issue. It's not at all unusual for caches to become corrupt. I periodically run a utility to run the UNIX cron routines & clean caches. I prefer YASU because you can’t delete something you shouldn’t as you can with OnyX.

Have you updated it to the latest iWork '09 v4.3?

  • Export command do not show missing font error

Our plug-in is using the SDK's PDFExportCmd to export InDesign file to PDF.
Every thing works fine, except we got into a serious issue when one of the Font is missing in the Indesign file.
When an InDesign file having missing font is exported it successfully converted to PDF without reporting any error, by replacing the missing font with default font!
The PDF preset used has following properties but looks like InDesign completely ignore these property.
    /CannotEmbedFontPolicy /Warning
    or
    /CannotEmbedFontPolicy /Error
    or
    /CannotEmbedFontPolicy /Ignore
Please note that when same InDesign file is exported using InDesign's Export...  it reports the error message saying Font is missing!
    Are we missing something?
Is there some properties that need to be set while exporting to PDF?
Or is it a serious bug in PDFExportCmd?
Alternatively is there a way to validate the InDesign file before exporting?
(I saw the api IExportValidationCmdData, but there is no documentation on it usage.)

There is no difference in the contents of the trial of iWork you get with a new Mac or with iLife '06 & the retail box.
I've learned not to delete any of the fonts that come with Apple apps any more because of things like the error you got. It's odd that a Pages document is using that particular font. I have two copies of that font on my G5, one in the main fonts folder & another in a folder of fonts that came with AppleWorks. The one in the AppleWorks folder has an Apple version 3.3 © & a date of 2000. Both have an Esselte Letraset © with a date of 1990.

  • Missing Fonts - Every Time

Every time I open a Keynote Presentation, even one I created on my computer, I get the message about missing fonts. How can it be missing fonts when I created the presentation on the same computer I'm now opening it on? Is there any way I can fix this? Can I install the fonts, for example?

I was able to fix this problem by copying the /System/Library/Fonts, /Library/Fonts and /Users/MyUserName/Library/Fonts folders from a Time Machine backup of a clean installation of Leopard.
The difficult part was that I needed to copy the folders first to my Desktop and then reboot to Single User Mode. In single user mode I used the command line commands to move away the old folders and then moved the restored folders from my desktop in their places.
After that I rebooted and reinstalled iWork '08.
    -Problem solved-
As for the reason why this happened, I figure that something went wrong when I migrated old user accounts and Applications after installing Leopard (clean install).

  • Missing fonts, please help

My Pages is having problems with fonts. Each time I launch a new or existing file I get a window listing 50+ fonts that it was "unable" to load. Following that is a very vague description of how to remedy it. Can anyone shed some light on this?
    Thanks,
    Chris
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

I had the same problem. I had deleted some fonts while trying to clean up my system and must have deleted some fonts from Pages. What I did was used Pacifist (you can download it from versiontracker.com). You then put the install disk in your cpu and use Pacifist to reinstall the fonts for iWorks. It worked great for me.
On a side note, if a fonts is missing, Pages will just substitute another font in its place.

  • ITour says missing fonts?

Running iWork 2.02, tried to open the iWork Tour doc. Got the error message of Missing Fonts:
    GillSans
    HelveticaNeue
    Cochin
    HelveticaNeue-Bold
    Optima-Bold
    GillSans-Bold
    Optima-Regular
    Didot
    Palatino-Bold
GillSans was already on the HD, so I used FontBook to install the (Adobe) others, but couldn't find Didot. At any rate. These should have been installed with iWork, but even after a FontBook install, quitting and reopening Keynote to run the iTour I get the same message. What's going on?
    G5 Dual   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Kyn, unfortunately clearing the ATS did not solve the problem. The iWork Tour still claims the missing fonts. I am a single user running 10.3.9, so not sure if the ATS fix was Tiger only. At any rate, sure would like to find the answer!
As an example, using spotlight to find Gill Sans (which iTour says is missing,) it is there under Library/Fonts folder. The fonts menu in Keynote also shows all the GillSans fonts (Adobe Open Type). When a new slide is opened up, and the text tool used to identify what type is on the Master, Keynote does not identify the type. Yet of course I can change it to "Gill Sans" or any of the type listed in the Font window.
This means that whatever kind of Gill Sans and Helvetica Neue or whatever fonts are supposed to be part of Keynote either did not install, or perhaps have a conflict with fonts already part of the Library? Keynote just doesn't see them, or can identify it's native master slide fonts.

  • Document Warnings:  Missing Fonts

I just purchased a new MacBook Pro with iWork 08. When I open a Pages template, I get an error message that tells me: "Some warnings occured. Would you like to review them now?"
If I click "Review," then I get a list of missing fonts.
    Anyone else have this issue?

    Hi Neil,
    Welcome to Pages discussions.
Go to Applications>Font book.app double click. Look in there to see if the fonts are truly missing. If they are there click the font then File>Validate Font, file>Validate file. See if this helps you. Sometimes a message stating a font is missing it just needs to be validated.
    Hope this helps.
    Sincerely,
    RicD

  • Keynote missing fonts

I've been plagued with error messages saying I have missing fonts. This is an iMac and iWork software I purchased in December, 2006 and all software is up to date. I'm new to macs and cannot figure this out. Is there Apple support for Keynote? I'm suspicious this is why some exports to Powerpoint aren't clean (some garbled text).
This is a request for help, thanks.
    macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

This uses to happen on my mac when (and only when) I import powerpoint files coming from PCs. Apparently the mac doesn't feature all (or exactly the same) fonts as in windows, and then you have an alert saying font X is missing.
Generally this doesn't prevent viewing, but as the replacement font used by Keynotes won't always be the exact same size as the windows one, it may result in text fields slightly deformed. In some cases you even have some trouble (e. g. big text field now too large for the slide surface) and you have to manually correct this (select smaller font...)
I personally never felt the need to install the related PC fonts, but if you have this issue daily, you may consider this...
    P. S. this kind of issue also happens for instance when opening Word files in Pages (or open office...) for the same reasons

  • How do I find where a missing font was used?

For an example, download the Property Owner Application form from http://www.atlantahousing.org/housingchoice/landlords/index.cfm?Fuseaction=forms
When opened in LiveCycle Designer, I get a message that Kozuka Gothic Pro-VI M (Regular) is missing. I don't see a way of searching for a font in LiveCycle, so I opened it up in Illustrator, thinking I would get a missing font message ... but I didn't. And when opened in regular Acrobat and looking at the Properties > Fonts list, it doesn't appear there either.
It's not causing any problem that I can see, but I'd like to get rid of it. Or maybe this is a font used by the application for some special symbol? Anyone khow to find it, or what's going on?

    Hi,
I haven't downloaded the form, but if you can open the form in LC Designer then go to the XML Source tab and do a search there for "Kozu". If the font is used, it will definetly show up in the XML Source. Note that while in XML Source you will be able to look up and down and identify the object that contains the font.
If you find it there, amend it for something else like Myriad Pro and see what happens.
    Good luck,
    Niall

  • Missing fonts in CS4 – how to install?

    Hi all,
Apologies for asking a question that I've seen posted and answered, but I'm wondering if there is a simpler solution than the plug-in suggested.
I have lost a few of the fonts I regularly use. They appear in Font Book and are enabled, but they are not available in InDesign. The missing fonts are available to me in other programs (e.g Word) so they are definitely on the system.
I was given advice to check in Home > Library > Application Support > Adobe > InDesign > Fonts, but there is no folder called "InDesign" within the Adobe folder of that path, so I don't know if that was good advice.
Of course (always the way, isn't it?) I've noticed this problem one week out from my deadline to the printer, so would really appreciate resolving it quickly.
    Thank you in advance,
    Andrew

Well, if your goal is to make the problem go away without
understanding it, thus reducing the liklihood you'll understand the
cause and prevent it from recurring in the future...
"Sometimes they get sleepy" is an attitude that really bothers me at a
deep level. Programs shouldn't break. And when they do, we should make
the effort to understand why they do. And report those problems back
to the manufacturers, who should be given the opportunity to fix
them. Even if we think they won't.
Programs break for reasons. Sometimes complicated and tricky
reasons. Sometimes reasons we can't actually figure out. But sometimes
reasons that we can. And we need to take the effort to figure out
why. Or at least try to a reasonable effort.
It is our moral duty. Otherwise the programmers who author the
software will have no opportunity to fix the problems, and thousands
of user across this green earth will be forced to deal with the same
problems we deal with regularly, for years and years, all because no
one was willing to take the minimal effort to figure out what was
    broken and why.
Don't lie down and say "oh, it just broken again, I accept that i have
to jump through this hoop to fix it periodically." That's just not the
way it should work, and it doesn't have to be that way.

  • Photoshop CC: Missing Fonts on Startup, only a few fonts are displayed as replacement options

I have a Photoshop document which uses some Fonts that I don't have on my Windows PC. When I open the document, I get a Dialog Box called "Missing Fonts", which states:
"Some fonts used in this document are missing. You can sync matching fonts from Typekit, or replace missing fonts with a default or different font used in this document"
This text suggests that I can only replace missing fonts with other fonts already being used in this document. However, I want to replace a missing font with a font that is not yet used in this document. Why can I only replace a missing font with another font already used in the document? For example, I want to replace "Helvetica Neue" with "Liberation Sans", however Liberation Sans is not offered in the Dropdown box, even though it is installed, as it is not yet used in the document. What is the point of only allowing to replace a missing font with a font that is already used in the document, and not with any font installed on the system??
    Thanks,
    best regards,
    Chris

I'm a windows user so I do not know  the Adobe Photoshop environment on the Mac or the versions of Mac OS.  The only suggestion I could make would then be try using Adobe Cleaner to clean off Photoshop then  install Photoshop  Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6

  • Missing fonts in InDesign CS4 - even when 'open' in Suitcase Fusion 3

Hi all, I'm running InDesign CS4 on a Intel Mac Pro (tower), about 4 years old, running OSX Snow Leopard (all updates applied).
Using Suitcase Fusion V3 for font management.
I have a document that previously had no font issues at all.  Now when I open it InDesign throws up a 'Missing font' error.
I have the correct fonts installed and 'open' in Suitcase Fusion.
The font is available in Simpletext and Pages, but not InDesign and Illustrator.
The troublesome font was OK the other day and has been since it was installed.
I've not changed anything that I'm aware of... but now InDesign won't 'see' the font.
In the 'Find Font' dialogue box the 'Path' says it's 'Unkown or missing'.
InDesign can see the other weights in the font family (bold, italic etc) but not regular.  And yet the entire font family is in the same folder on my hard drive.
I've tried deleting all the' Adobe.lst' files.  No Joy.
I've run Font Doctor on the whole font family, its says it's OK.
    I've tried re-installing the font from a back-up.  Nada.
If anyone has any suggestions..... feel free to let rip!
As ever, I await your expertise and unstinting knowledge in these matters   And, needless to say, I'll be mighty appreciative for it!
    RP

Hi Bob, strangely... I've put the troublesome font, Dax (T1) Regular, in the Applications/Adobe InDesign CS4/Fonts folder and it seems to be working.
Never had to do that before.
Would be great to get back to 'normal'.  If possible.
Although I have many duplicates spread across back-up drives and collected artwork folders, I've also tried to eliminate any duplicate 'open' versions.  But the above solution is the only one that works at the moment.
    RP
p.s. I also tried removing any AdobeFNT**.lst files, (where ** is a number) before the above work around.  That didn't work either.
