Missing fonts in Keynote file : how to replace them ?

When opening a Keynote file that had fonts not installed on the system, an alert window used to open.
You could then easily replace the missing fonts with other ones installed.
Not anymore !
The alert window still appears in Keynote V6, but the "replace font" option is missing.
Does anyone know a workaround ?

yeah, I tried the whole modifying the master slide thing but the missing fonts aren't on there, they would have come from slides I deleted as well or already replaced the fonts on so not sure why they are lingering....
oh wait...I think I might have just figured out something. The whole "revert to previous version" wouldn't that have something to do with still remembering fonts used in a previous version? I'm going to try and see if I can duplicate the current document in some way that makes it a new version with no history in it.
Other than that I was going to try exporting to '09 do the replace fonts tool that was in there and then open it back up but I'll have to modify the transitions and shadows that were new to current version of keynote.

  • Upgraded to CC from CS5.5 now all Illustrator templates have a 'missing font' (myraid-Italic). How can I fix this without replacing the font?

Replacing the font is not an option. This would mean resaving thousands of company files.
Also, none of the templates use Myraid Italic. They were created with Myraid Roman.
This has never been an issue when upgrading to other versions of Illustrator.
Every file I open will pop-up with the missing font notice; this is very annoying when checking numerous files (I have to click okay everytime for the file to load).

I actually have a fairly simple solution to this for Windows 7.  Don't mess with your registry or delete other fonts. Go into c:/windows/fonts.  Check to see that you have the set of fonts "Segoe UI".  Inside this set are 6 Segoe fonts:
    Regular (segoeui)
    Regular Italic (segoeuii)
    Bold (segoeuib)
    Bold Italic (segoeuiz)
    Semi Bold (seguisb)
    Light (segoeuil)
You may not have them arranged in a set, but just check that you have all of them.
Make sure programs (i.e iTunes) are closed.
If you don't have the fonts, find them on the internet, ask a friend to copy and paste them, send them to you etc.  They are easy and free to get.  Download them to your desktop.  Right click each one and "Install".
If you already have them in your fonts folder (my problem) do this:  COPY (not cut) them from your c:/windows/fonts folder to your desktop.  Close windows explorer.  From your desktop, right click each one and "Install".  You will get a message that they are already installed and do you want to install a newer version or some such.  Say "Yes".  They will get re-installed.
Open iTunes and you should have all your text back!
*Based on a sample of one - hopefully it works for you.

  • Missing Media files And How To replace them

I have moved a number of media files in the Motion project I'm working on. These media Files have simply been moved into another directory. I need to relink them up with the files but when I try and go to the button that says : "replace media file" I press it and nothing happens.
W.. isn't there supposed to be a window that pops up or somthing?
How else can I re-link these media files into my project without completley replacing them and redoing the trim fade placement etc.?

Have you tried the "Reconnect Media" command in the File menu? That should help you reconnect every media file in the project, instead of doing them one by one using the replace media button in the inspector.

  • Find missing fonts in AI file

I am writing a VBA script to open and print a handful of AI files. It needs to detect any missing/substituted fonts in each file to alert the designers in an accompanying report.
I tried creating a list of fonts using the TextFonts collection from the Application object when the application first opens, and then compared the list to the TextFonts after opening the file. This allowed me to detect the font differences between the two, but I have no way of knowing if the additional font was embedded in the AI file or substituted with another.
    Any ideas?

  • Change missing fonts in multiple files CS4

I am using InDesign CS4 and I have several dozen files that are missing fonts because of going from a Mac to Windows. I have approximately 20 documents open, so there are 20 "Missing Fonts" dialog boxes open. If I want to replace the missing fonts, which are pretty much the same in every document, is there a way to replace all the missing "Arial Black"s at once instead of having to replace each font in each document one at a time?
    I hope that makes sense?
    Thanks,
    Lloyd

No prob, Lloyd. I meant to include some Handy Illustrative Screenshots but the work I'm actually getting paid to do kept getting in the way  Glad you were able to figure it out.
Unfortunately, this method doesn't have the "Redefine Style When Changing All" checkbox that you get when you use the Find Font dialog. I usually wind up using this techinque with files I've not styled - e.g. when a designer sends me a package from a Mac with no styles and a bunch of 0k fonts that wouldn't support my target languages even if I did have a license for the font in the first place. In those rare occasions when I have to do this to my own well-styled docs, I made a key combo control-alt-shift-R "Redefine Style" so I could step through the doc and redefine all of the styles to the new font.
Peter & Uwe, do either of you remember when using find/change for missing fonts started working? Was it new in CS4, or am I remembering PageMaker? Quark? I can't tell. I do remember a time a decade or so ago when I was manually stepping through a massive document made of thousands of individual frames, cursing my inability to search for missing fonts.

  • Missing font in one file, but not another?

In one document, I changed a section of type to Helvetica, then it turned pink. It says Helvetica is missing. I opened another document and used Helvetica with no problem. I closed InDesign, checked my fonts and used Helvetica in other programs. Reopeing ID, I copied the Helvetica type from the second file and pasted it in the first file, and now Helvetica works fine in the first file. What the heck?

    @OP
Are you sure you really have that Helvetica installed & activated in your system? If you use InDesign CS5 or 5.5 and you have received documents as packages where used fonts have been stored in Document Fonts folder, you may use those fonts in indd-file that has been stored in the same root with Document Fonts folder. If you move your indd out of that root, certain fonts may stop working....
I dont know if this causes your troubles, it´s more likely font management issue but still worth to check if nothing else helps you out.

  • Missing font in Keynote 6

Every time I open Keynote 6.2.2 I receive the message “The font GillSans is missing.” This is frustrating for two reasons:
I don’t use the font personally, so I assume it is on some master slide
and the font is installed in my Font Book.
Any help on how to solve this would be very much appreciated.

This is a well known issue. Try resetting Keynote using this procedure, ensure you complete all the tasks and in the order shown:
remove  Keynote, using Appcleaner from Mac Update, its a freeware application. You must use an application removal tool for this repair to work.
empty the trash:  Finder > Empty Trash
Shut down your Mac, wait 30 seconds, then power on the Mac, immediately after the start chime, hold down the Shift key
When you see the grey Apple symbol and progress indicator (a spinning gear), release the Shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, then hold down the Shift key again as you click Log in.
Let the Mac fully boot up, it will take longer as the OS is being repaired
when fully booted, go to Applications > Utilities > Disc Utility; click on the boot drive then First Aid tab and click repair disc permissions
when complete, restart the Mac normally, Apple menu > Restart
install Keynote from the Mac App Store

  • Unexpected quits, missing themes, missing fonts and broken file paths

I created a project in iDVD 5 on the Powerbook at home, and then took the drive containing the project and all related files to my dad's office to burn it on his iMac G5 (the drive in the powerbook won't burn anything - separate problem). I put all the required files which were on the Powerbook's internal HD in a folder on the external HD, so that they could be reconnected at the office (when the "following files could not be found" dialog pops up).
However, when I opened the project on the G5, from iDVD, it told me that at least one of the themes I had used could not be found. "Ok," I thought, "which ones are they?"; clicking the "show details" triangle, I got the following message:
"The following themes, used by this project, are missing on your system:
    (null)"
This occured a total of five times, before the "following files could not be found" dialog appeared. Some of them had been on my desktop or in my preferences on the powerbook, which I had copied into the aforementioned folder on the portable HD, but it could not find any of the movie files nor some of the image files, all of which had not changed position on the external HD since I started the project. I showed it where all of the files were, and then another message popped up telling me a font was missing. At this point it froze on the spinning coloured ball of death, before showing me an "unexpectedly quit" message. I have been through this so many times, even tried deleting the "com.apple.iDVD.plist" file, which didn't help. I am at a loss.
iMac G5 Intel Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   2x 2 GHz Intel processors

What version of iDVD is on your Dad's computer. Since you have posted in the iDVD 6 forum, perhaps it is iDVD 6? That may be your problem because I would NOT expect a project created in iDVD 5 (as you have done) to work in iDVD 6.
If you had iDVD 6, I would have suggested you try creating an actual project archive out of iDVD (FILE>ARCHIVE PROJECT). The archive SHOULD contain all the elements you need to work on another computer.

  • How to add files instead of replacing them by syncing?

Someone presented me an I pad, and when I got it, he already put files in it, so now that i need to add things on it from my own computer with Itunes, it does not want to add but to replace. I want just to add, please explain how can I do this.

For photos, iTunes is basically just a tool for adding them to a device, they don't get added to your iTunes library in the same way that music, films etc do. If he synced them from a computer then you can copy them over to your computer, but you will need an app on your iPad e.g Simple Transfer allows you to copy photos to/from an iPad (or iPhone or iPod Touch) via your wifi network. If they were taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit or saved from email/websites (e.g. they are in the Camera Roll album in the Photos app) then you should be able to copy them off via the camera wizard in a windows PC, or iPhoto, Aperture or Image Capture on a Mac : copying photos.
An iPad is only designed to be synced to one computer at a time, so to sync content you will need to 'associate' the iPad with your computer : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141 . But the account that originally bought/downloaded the app (or film, music etc) will need to be authorised on your computer's iTunes to be able to copy it over to your computer's iTunes via File > (Devices > ) Transfer Purchases. All iTunes downloads are tied to the account that downloads it, and they can't be transferred to a different account.
Depending upon what app the word documents are in and what the app supports, then you may be able to email them to yourself, copy them off via your wifi network, or use the file sharing section. If the videos aren't iTunes purchases (if they are then they will be tied to his account) then you can also copy them off, but you will need a program on your computer to do so - there are some listed half-way down this page.
If you want to add photos to the iPad, then only the synced photos will remain on the iPad - synced photos can't be deleted directly on the iPad, instead they are removed by not including them in the next photo sync (so if you want the synced photos that the other person put on it then you will need to copy them to your computer first so that you can include them in your syncing).
If you are on iTunes 11 on your computer then you may want to re-enable the left-hand sidebar via View > Show Sidebar (option-command-S on a Mac, control-S on a PC), which might make it easier to navigate and my instructions may make more sense.
To sync photos, connect and select your iPad on the left-hand side of your computer's iTunes (if you've enabled the sidebar), and on the right-hand side there should be a series of tabs, one of which should be Photos - if you select that tab you can then select which photo folders to sync to the iPad. There is a bit more info on this page.
If you haven't enabled the sidebar, then from your library click 'iPad' at the top right of the screen and you should get a series of buttons along the top of the screen, including one for Photos.

  • Missing (or un-recognized) files - how do I fix this? PLEASE

I  imported a number of old jpgs into my catalog (into seperate folders labled by year) but lightroom is not showing them in the library.
IE: The folder for 2006 siys it has 583 files in it in the library.
But when I navigate to the same folder using the finder (MAC OS10.6) there are 3047 files in it.
    I have 'optimized' the catalog.
I have tried to 're-import' the files (add - 'do not import duplicates', in the import dialog) and lightroom shows no new fils to import!
If I search for a specific file by name it does not show up in the Library. But if I try to re-import the same file it 'says' that it is a duplicate.
Does anyone know what I should do to get correct access to the 'missing' files?
    LR4
    MAC OS10.6.8

I'm not wanting to get in the way here, but before you go to the point of starting over with a new empty catalog, there is one thing you could try first. The problem may be similar to one that has been seem a few times before, and as I said earlier it usually centres around a problem with case sensitivity. For example a user may have his photos all stored in the path "HD/USERS/jonas/Pictures/ALL PHOTOS", but then either rebuilds existing system or moves to a new system...but in doing so sets up his user account name as Jonas, not jonas. Thus the path for new images in Lightroom becomes "HD/USERS/Jonas/Pictures/ALL PHOTOS", but it still has existing images linked to "HD/USERS/jonas/Pictures/ALL PHOTOS". This "dual path" happens because Lightroom is case sensitive, wheras the OS isn't. Lightroom records new images outside of the "ALL PHOTOS" structure, i.e. if you import into "Photos 2006", Lightroom creates a new sub-folder....but when it tells the OS to put the images into HD/USERS/Jonas/Pictures/ALL PHOTOS/Photos 2006 they get stored in the one and only physical sub-folder. Only Lightroom thinks there are now two paths, the OS still sees only one.
Typically this can be discovered by doing the "Add Parent Folder" thing, that then shows which of the "two" paths that Lightroom sees needs to be corrected, but in your case you're getting that error message. So my suggestion would be to try the "fix" on all of the top-level folders currently showing to see if that can resolve the problem. That would be done like this:
    1. Take a catalog backup.....if this fix goes wrong you'd just trash the catalog and restore this backup.
    2. Outside of Lightroom, create 3 temporary folders at the root level of your HD (i.e. NOT inside your User path), call them "Dummy Import", "Dummy All", and "Dummy 2006".
    3. Back in Lightroom, using the Folders Panel, ctrl-click on "-IMPORT" and select "Update Folder Location". In the resulting file browser, browse to and select the "Dummy Import" folder. This will change the reference in the Folder Panel.
    4. Do the same on "ALL PHOTOS", relink to "Dummy All". In the Folders Panel "ALL PHOTOS" will change to "Dummy All" and all the sub-folders below will have the '?' mark to indicate they are now missing. Do not concern yourself with that at this stage.
    5. Finally, do the same with the "Photos 2006" folder which currently lies outside the "ALL PHOTOS/Dummy All" folder, relinking it to "Dummy 2006".
6 The "Photos Pre 2006" folder outside of "ALL PHOTOS/Dummy All" has a zero photo count, so just ctrl-click on it and select "Remove".
7 Now starts the phase of putting everything back together. First I would (using Finder), rename that "-IMPORT" folder to get rid of the hyphen, i.e. rename it to "IMPORT".
    8. Back in Lightroom's Folder Panel, ctrl-click first on "Dummy All", select "Update Folder Location", browse to and select the real "ALL PHOTOS" folder in your user/pictures folder....that should update the name in the Folder Panel and restore all the sub-folders.
    9. Now ctrl-click on the "Dummy Import" folder, select "Update Folder Location", browse to and select the "IMPORT" folder which is inside the "ALL PHOTOS" folder on the hard drive. "Dummy Import" should disappear from the Folders Panel, and "IMPORT" should appear under the "ALL PHOTOS" parent folder.
    10. Finally, ctrl-click on "Dummy 2006", select "Update Folder Location" then browse to and select the "Photos 2006" sub-folder which is inside the "ALL PHOTOS" folder on the hard drive. At this stage, you should receive a warning that the folder you have selected already exists, and gives you the option to merge them, Select "Merge" and "Dummy 2006" should disappear and the photo count for the "Photos 2006" sub-folder under "ALL PHOTOS" should increment by 755.
What this procedure does is it allows you to correct any path irregularities caused by this case sensitivity issue, by moving the objects to a different temporary path, then putting them back to the one correct path (i.e. it gets rid of the dual paths that Lightroom sees). Bit of a kludge, but it might work out OK.
And that should do it (takes less to do it than it's taken me to type the instructions)....but if anything fails along the way it may suggest that the problem is worse than I thought....let me know what happens if you decide to try it (no harm in trying it, provided you've got that backup done first).

  • Files missing from native notepad app, how to get them back?

I had a lot of files in the native Notepad app.  That app apparently updated today (without asking me first), and deleted all but one file.  Is there a way to get them back?  Should I just contact Apple about this, or are they not likely to have the file either?

I assume by "native Notepad" app, you mean Notes. If you have been backing up (via iCloud or itunes) any notes present for the last backup can be recovered via a restore from that back up, but you would lose any content not in the back up. No Apple wouldn't have them.
Unless you just got around to updating iOS to 6.1.4, the app itself  didn't update. Its built into iOS.

  • Multiple apps using same files, how to lock them?

    Hi all,
I have a unique situation (or so I think). We are running our apps in Citrix servers, such that many users log in to a single citrix server and run our java apps. The problem is, it will be possible that more than one user might use the same app and start to work with the same file.
I have seen the new NIO package, read that it has better file locking and stuff. I guess what I am after is a way to graphically display the user using a given file, with some other features. Basically, if user 1 runs the app, and clicks on a file, they have sole access to it. Now, if user 2 runs the same app, what I would like to see if I can do is in user 2's view of the file system, they see somethine like:
    xxxx.txt
    yyyy.xml (user1)
    zzz.bat
So, somehow, I want to update the JList view of each users view either every so often, or when they click on a file that is being used by another, to let them know that it is locked AND the user who has locked it. This way, they can at least ask that user if they can "unlock" their use of it.
Ideally, if there is some way for two or more copies of the same program (running on the same or different citrix servers) could communicate with one another to constantly update each other of file lock status, that would be great. However, if this is more complex than a few hundred lines, it is a rare occassion that this will happen so it is not worth the effot. Mainly, I need to minimally make sure that if a file is locked by one user, when another user tries to use it they are notified that it is locked.
    Thanks.

How about doing file maangement through your server? Keep a database of what files are checked out by whom
