Missing Fonts in Photoshop CS4

I opened an existing CS2 photoshop file in CS4 and I get a missing font error. The font that it can't find is on my system.
How do I "add" this font so PS can see it?
Thanks.

Yeah, I hear ya. But this seems to be a big complaint with 64 bit systems. And since all fonts show up and work fine in all other programs... seems like another adobe bug to me.
If you want to be a bit specific, Arial has 10 types. Only two show up. Regular and bold. And I'm not alone with this problem.
This was a bug (from what I read) in office 2007. But I never used 2007. However it wasn't a problem in office 2003 nor is it with my current version of 2010. As I said, no problems whatsoever with anything except... photoshop cs4 64. (works fine in 32 bit vista)
Now, FWIW, I haven't played much with font directories in the past, but it seems win7 is putting them into their own... kind of "folder". (could be wrong)
That is, in arials case, for instance, they aren't spread out. As... arial normal, black, bold, etc. They seem to be all lumped in to one. Click on it and they all open for display and are all there but I don't remember them that way in older windows progs.
But as I said, everything is fine in notepad, wordpad, excel, word, etc. etc. etc. A corrupt font is one thing, but I can't see a corrupt font working in everything but one program. And they DO work in dreamweaver.
Ok... update. As I said, tried putting them (the arials) in the adobe font directory (which I said was empty). Nothing. Tried again and it duplicated them. Still nothing. Went in and dumped the duplicates... seems to be working.
So, problem kinda solved. Just no clue why.
I need a drink and a few excedrins.

  • Missing fonts in InDesign CS4 - even when 'open' in Suitcase Fusion 3

    Hi all, I'm running InDesign CS4 on a Intel Mac Pro (tower), about 4 years old, running OSX Snow Leopard (all updates applied).
    Using Suitcase Fusion V3 for font management.
    I have a document that previously had no font issues at all.  Now when I open it InDesign throws up a 'Missing font' error.
    I have the correct fonts installed and 'open' in Suitcase Fusion.
    The font is available in Simpletext and Pages, but not InDesign and Illustrator.
    The troublesome font was OK the other day and has been since it was installed.
    I've not changed anything that I'm aware of... but now InDesign won't 'see' the font.
    In the 'Find Font' dialogue box the 'Path' says it's 'Unkown or missing'.
    InDesign can see the other weights in the font family (bold, italic etc) but not regular.  And yet the entire font family is in the same folder on my hard drive.
    I've tried deleting all the' Adobe.lst' files.  No Joy.
    I've run Font Doctor on the whole font family, its says it's OK.
    I've tried re-installing the font from a back-up.  Nada.
    If anyone has any suggestions..... feel free to let rip!
    As ever, I await your expertise and unstinting knowledge in these matters   And, needless to say, I'll be mighty appreciative for it!

    Hi Bob, strangely... I've put the troublesome font, Dax (T1) Regular, in the Applications/Adobe InDesign CS4/Fonts folder and it seems to be working.
    Never had to do that before.
    Would be great to get back to 'normal'.  If possible.
    Although I have many duplicates spread across back-up drives and collected artwork folders, I've also tried to eliminate any duplicate 'open' versions.  But the above solution is the only one that works at the moment.

    p.s. I also tried removing any AdobeFNT**.lst files, (where ** is a number) before the above work around.  That didn't work either.

  • Do the fonts in Photoshop CS4 have any restrictions for commercial use?

    I am a  designer and I wanted to know if there were any restrictions in the Photoshop CS4 Extended version concerning font usage?  I have read all the terms but I got confused after awhile.  I wanted to make sure there are no restricted usage if I use any of the fonts incorporated into my designs which are then resold?  Thank you in advance!

    Thank you for your response.  Just to be clear: essentially I can use the fonts in my designs  for say cell phone skins and music album covers but cannot not ( of course) resell the original fonts correct?  Thanks again for your help!  I have tried calling and been on hold forever, then tried emailing support and they said I had to call because it is a  technical issue.  Lawyer speak in the terms confuses me easily:)

  • Missing Fonts in Illustrator CS4

    I have been having an issue with the "missing font"
    My problem is that Illustrator recognizes the fonts sometimes and not other times.  I have had no problems for the past week or so and I just restarted my computer and now a number of fonts that worked fine suddenly are replaced with the "missing font" default.
    The fonts I'm currently concerned with are all in the default LaTeX family (i.e. cmr10, cmmi10, cmbx10, etc...) I have all of them installed on my computer and they work fine in every other application.
    Does anyone have any idea what is going on or how I can solve this problem?  Why does illustrator "lose" them and how do I get them back? !!
    Thanks!

    Thanks for the link.  I'm actually using Windows 7 and in the mean time my illustrator "found" the fonts again (still can't figure out why).  I don't know how well the solutions for the Mac OS will work but I'll take a look.  If anyone else comes up with an answer I'd love to hear it!
    Thanks!

  • Missing tools in photoshop CS4

    Hi there,
    I've just taken the plunge and bought Photoshop CS4.  I installed it but when I first went to use it it appears that the tool palette is incomplete.  The magic eraser isn't there.  The plain old eraser is, but there is nothing behind it.  The same thing occurs for the other layered tools in the palette.  Has this happened to anyone else?  Is it easily fixable?  Or did I get a lemon???
    Thanks in advance for your assistance.

    Thank you, thank you, thank you... That worked.  I thought I was going

  • Detecting Missing Fonts (jsx ai-cs4)

    I know, it's impossible.
    However, I've built the following function and I think it's getting close to working.  What I'm trying to do is get a collection of the fonts available to the system and match those against fonts I find in my document.  It's getting hung up because my technique for gathering the system fonts is also getting the document-declared fonts.
    So my question is, is there a way to specify that I want system fonts only?
    Here's what I've got so far:
    //================================================
    //target illustrator;
    var docRef = app.activeDocument;
    var missingCount = detectMissingFonts(docRef);
    function detectMissingFonts(docRef){
         //start counter at the number of fonts being used in the document
         var missingcount = docRef.textFrames.length;
         alert("FRAMES LENGTH: " + missingcount);
         //collect available fonts in a variable
         var availableFonts = [];
         var fontlist = [];
         for(inc=0; inc<textFonts.length; inc++){
              var sysFont = textFonts[inc].family;
              availableFonts[sysFont] = 1;
              fontlist[inc] = sysFont;
         alert(fontlist);
         //collect document fonts
         for (k = 0 ; k<docRef.textFrames.length ; k++){ // loop thru textFrames
              //set current frame into obj variable
              var frame = docRef.textFrames[k];
              //set the font family attribute into a variable
              var font = frame.textRange.characterAttributes.textFont.family;
              //alert("FOUND FONT: " + font + ": " + availableFonts[font]);
              //test if found font is in the associative array of available fonts
              if ( availableFonts[font] == 1){
                   alert("Matching " + font + ": " + availableFonts[font]);
                   //decrement the counter to account for this not-missing font
                   missingcount--;
         return missingcount;
    alert("COUNT: " + missingcount);
    //================================================
    An emergency work-around would be to hard-code in my list of system fonts, but I'd hate for it to come to that.  I really appreciate any advice and thanks for reading!!!
    p.s. I'm still learning all of this stuff so I'd also be grateful for any advice for making my code more streamline.
    p.p.s. Sorry for all of the alerts.  I like to be sure every variable I set is working correctly.

    Using Jongware's suggestion, here's the updated script that is finding missing fonts:
    //===========================================
    var availableFonts = getFonts();
    var docRef = //OPEN A NEW DOCUMENT NOW;
    var missingFonts = detectMissingFonts(docRef, availableFonts);
    function getFonts(){
         //create blank document
         //collect available fonts in a variable
         var availableFonts = [];
         var fontlist = [];
         for(inc=0; inc<textFonts.length; inc++){
              var sysFont = textFonts[inc].family;
              availableFonts[sysFont] = 1;
              fontlist[inc] = sysFont;
         alert(fontlist);
         //close document, return list
         return availableFonts;
    function detectMissingFonts(docRef, availableFonts){
         //start counter at the number of fonts being used in the document
         var missingcount = docRef.textFrames.length;
         alert("FRAMES LENGTH: " + missingcount);
         //collect document fonts
         for (k = 0 ; k<docRef.textFrames.length ; k++){ // loop thru textFrames
              //set current frame into obj variable
              var frame = docRef.textFrames[k];
              //set the font family attribute into a variable
              var font = frame.textRange.characterAttributes.textFont.family;
              //test if found font is in the associative array of available fonts
              if ( availableFonts[font] == 1){
                   alert("Matching " + font + ": " + availableFonts[font]);
                   //decrement the counter to account for this not-missing font
                   missingcount--;
         return missingcount;
    alert("COUNT: " + missingcount);
    //===========================================
    Thanks again, Jongware!

  • Missing font in Photoshop Elements 2.0 (Lithos Pro)

    Greetings...
    I have been working on a  project for over a year and have created some graphic images for a book. I need to edit one of these images and the font I used (from this very same program) is missing. I found my font library but cannot find my Lithos Pro.
    Customer support chat sent me to another area to get help and I have found nothing. I tried to download LIthos Pro from another site and ended up with a bug. (It's gone now.)
    Please help!!!!

    Windows Vista.
    Yes... I found a free download and in the middle of downloading, I got a virus warning. Stopped everything and got rid of it. It was a PUP trojan... ?
    I've had a friend do the edit for me, but I still wonder where my font went. I may have to upgrade to a newer version. I'm just not ready to do that right now.
    Thanks for replying.

  • Photoshop CS4 missing files after uninstall of CS3

    I upgraded the Adobe Creative Suite CS3.3 Design Premium today to CS4 on my MacPro. The upgrade went smoothly. After using the Adobe uninstaller for CS3 and starting Photoshop CS4, an error message appeared stating that required support files were missing, re-install Photoshop CS4. After a second Photoshop CS4 installation all is well.
    Apparently the CS3 Design Premium uninstaller is removing a file required for CS4 also.
    This is not an isolated incident, as it happened again when installing CS4 on my MacBook Pro. I have also read of similar incidents in other forums. It seems to affect only Photoshop CS4.
    Jerry

    As I no longer require CS3 on my Mac after upgrading to CS4 and waiting for the required plugins to be available I have successfully uninstalled CS3 using the Adobe CS3 Creative Suite uninstaller.
    NOTE: please make a copy of the 'Adobe Unit Types.osax' found Macintosh HD/Library/ScriptingAdditions/Adobe Unit Types.osax
    At home did this without making a backup of the 'Adobe Unit Types.osax', so when I launched Photoshop CS4 it suffered from the "Error: "One or more files in the Adobe Application Support folder.."
    At work I did this with making a copy of 'Adobe Unit Types.osax', place it back after the uninstall of CS3... and presto so far so good.
    for the 'Error: "One or more files in the Adobe Application Support folder... are missing' when you start Photoshop CS4 (Mac OS)" read here:

    sorry if this has already been posted, I could not see this anywhere.

  • Does Indesign CS4 recognize missing fonts in links?

    Could anyone tell me if Indesign CS4 (or any version of Indesign) will recognize missing fonts used in a linked image? We have a customer that is using Indesign CS4 they have linked images from photoshop (no fonts in the photoshop images) and .eps files that were created using Easy Barcode Creator. Indesign is not seeing that the font is missing from the eps file (easy barcode reader), nor is there an error when exporting a PDF or print a PS. Preflight in Indesign doesn't detect this either. If I open the eps in Illustrator then I get a font missing error. I don't want to open all the files (supporting links) to find out if I have missing fonts. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

    I've been playing with this a little, and I get what you see, too with .eps files. Find font will list the fonts used in the links, but for the most part woen't tell you if they are missing (seems to know they're missing in placed .indd files, though). Not a whole lot of help, but at least it puts the list out front where you can see the fonts, and check to see what doesn't look familiar.
    Maybe the scripting guys have some clever ideas.

  • Photoshop CC: Missing Fonts on Startup, only a few fonts are displayed as replacement options

    I have a Photoshop document which uses some Fonts that I don't have on my Windows PC. When I open the document, I get a Dialog Box called "Missing Fonts", which states:
    "Some fonts used in this document are missing. You can sync matching fonts from Typekit, or replace missing fonts with a default or different font used in this document"
    This text suggests that I can only replace missing fonts with other fonts already being used in this document. However, I want to replace a missing font with a font that is not yet used in this document. Why can I only replace a missing font with another font already used in the document? For example, I want to replace "Helvetica Neue" with "Liberation Sans", however Liberation Sans is not offered in the Dropdown box, even though it is installed, as it is not yet used in the document. What is the point of only allowing to replace a missing font with a font that is already used in the document, and not with any font installed on the system??
    Thanks,
    best regards,
    Chris

    I'm a windows user so I do not know  the Adobe Photoshop environment on the Mac or the versions of Mac OS.  The only suggestion I could make would then be try using Adobe Cleaner to clean off Photoshop then  install Photoshop  Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6

  • Photoshop CS4 randomly changing font...

    I'm baffled by this one. I created a new text layer and chose MT Resolution Classic Tight as the font. I entered one word, entered a space and the continued typing. However, everything after that space was in Minion Pro. I had to select all of the text and change it back to MT Resolution. This is happening no matter what font I choose. I could start with something like Arial, enter a space after the first word I type, and then the rest of the entered text is in some other random font. There seems to be no logic to it. I've been using PS for years, and CS4 for at least a year, and this problem has never come up before.
    I can't even begin to imagine what is going wrong. Help?
    (Photoshop CS4 Extended 11.0.1 32-bit, Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit)

    How many fonts do you have installed?
    Do a search for and delete all instances of adobefnt*.lst (that extension is .LST).
    And if a broken or corrupted font is causing problems there is no alternative in the long run to tracking it down and deleting it.

  • Photoshop CS4 Extended, issues with resolution and font sizes on Mac

    I have Photoshop CS4 Extended, which worked fine on my old 15 inch Macbook Pro, I think it was 2011 and had high definition display.
    I now have a new 15 inch 'late 2013' Macbook Pro with retina display (2880 x 1800), and OS 10.9.4
    I have 2 problems:
    1) Using photoshop now, the resolution is a lot worse than with my old computer, even though my screen is higher resolution.
    For example, the images themselves are worse resolution on my display, far less crisp and more pixelated than any of my other programs. And even the windows such as 'save as...' screens are terribly pixelated also. Is there a way to fix this?
    2) When using the type tool, I cannot find how to change the size of the font. There used to be numbers which I could change, and also select the font type, both on the top menu bar always visible. Now there is not anymore. What there is there at the top, is what looks to be a bar on top of another bar. The top layer bar is on the left and reaches about one third of the way across the top, and I can drag it by its corner so it can extend more, but not less. It looks like there are things behind it which I cannot see, because it is over the top of them. Perhaps the text size and font options are stuck behind that. What can I do?
    Many thanks!
    Justin

    Hi JJMack, you said "Seems like you want a low resolution display hook and external display to it." I do not know what that means. I did a google search for "low resolution display hook" and it came up with zero results. Also I do not have an external display, only my laptop.
    Does anyone know what I can do to fix this issue? I would greatly appreciate any solution.
    Thank you!

  • Why is it photoshop CS4 worked flawlessly with my fonts in Snow Leopard, but are making CS6 crash in

    I transferred all of the fonts starting with 'A' into font book and all of them had either a yellow or red dot next to them. They all worked fine in photoshop CS4. What gives? Will Adobe fix this and make them compatable? I have a fortune invested in fonts I'm not about to toss. What are Adobe and Apple going to do about this? Who's issue is it really? I am not the only one having his issue.
    Thank you for any input.

    And what fonts exactly? If you're using fonts from the stone age this may be unavoidable. Beyond that a single "bad" font can drag down Adobe apps, which does not necessarily have to be the one you use currently. It's mere existance and PS stumbling over it when populating the fonts list would be enough... The rest is in the details, but as always, start by removing all your fonts and adding them only back on an "as needed" basis. and if you realyl have that many fonts, using a font manager might be advisable to keep lists neat and tidy...
