Missing fonts - InDesign CS3

I've read all I could find about mssing fonts, but continue to have problems with opening InDesign files and receiving a message about a missing font(Arial Narrow).
Indesign CS3 v5.04
Two users(Administrator & a user(who has Local Administrator rights)  have no problem with missing font when opening the same file.
Two different users(who both have Local Administrator rights) receive the message about missing font when opening the same file.
The PC has the font loaded in Windows,
I have copied Arial Narrow into Adobe\Indesign\Fonts directory
I have deleted all Adobe*.lst files
After the Adobe*.lst file is recreated the lst file has the specifics for Arial Narrow in the lst file.
Not sure what to try next

I didn't understand from the original message that the users were all working on the same PC. That would point away from the font problem, I think, and maybe toward a preferences corruption, though I couldn't say for sure.
Certainly I think trying the patch would be good, and yes, there may be Adobefnt*.lst files in each user profile that should be deleted (maybe that's all that's wrong). Otherwise, replacing preferences for the affected users might be in order.
On the same machine, assuming there is no problem about inidividual user customizations you don't want to share, you can copy the profile data from one user to another without problem, or you can rebuild each bad set from scratch. • Missing Fonts InDesign 5.5 WIN

InDesign 5.5 WIN create problems with the fonts when I open a file from version 5.0. The font-installation in the windows font-folder is ok. The fonts are there, but InDesign doesn´t find it. Funny: When I create a new file, I can fix the "missing" font. It works well. Where is the problem?

  • Missing fonts Photoshop CS3 in Win 7

Photoshop worked fine in XP Pro SP 3. I reformatted the HD and installed Win 7. I installed some postscript fonts and they don't show up in Photoshop but show up fine in Framemaker and MS Office products. Any suggestions.

Deleting the font cache files did not help, nor did copy the postscript files to Adobe's common font folder or to Photoshop's font folder. The particular font I wanted to install was Teff's trinite font, but I discovered this is a problem with any postscript files from any company (Tiro Typeworks, Monotype, etc.). I haven't seen this described with Win 7, but searching for a solution, I found that this seems to be an issue with Windows 64 bit systems (XP and Vista) and PS fonts and CS3 products. The only solutions I've found were to use otf fonts (not possible with trinite) or upgrade to CS4 (not something I plan to do, as it is too buggy in Premier, Encore, etc. and I will wait for CS5). Thanks.
The installation was directly through Win 7 "install font" option. As mentioned, these fonts work fine with Framemaker and MS Office 2007 products.

  • Missing fonts from CS3 in CS5.5, ex Adobe Rekord. How do I export them?

Just upgraded from CS3 (windows version) to CS5.5 (Mac OS version).
In CS3 we created alot of nice artwork with Font built in InDesign.
Now when we migrated to CS5.5 the Fonts are not possible to import into Mac OS.
Has anyone a solution to this?
Thank you so much for your time
    Dag

Thank you so much for your quick answer.
Instead of giving you an exact answer which fonts we are using and missing, I will give you all that we are missing:
    They are all Adobe Fonts:
Alleycat ICG, ITC American Typrewriter, Americana, ITC Anna, Baker Signet, ITC New Bakerville, Bell Gothic, ITC Benguiat, Bickley Script, Birch, Blackoak, ITC Bookman, Caslon, Century Old Style, ITC Cheltenham, ITC Eras, ITC Espirit, ITC Fenice, ITC Flora, Fritz Quadrata, ITC Galliard, Adobe Garamond, ITC Giovanni, Isabella, ITC Kabel, Kaufmann, ITC Korinna, LetterGothic (T1), ITC Machine, Madrone, Myriad, Ocra, ITC Officina Sans, ITC Officina Serif, Orator, P22 Corinthia, Parisian, Park Avenue, Poplar, Rekord, Serpentine, ITC Slimbach, ITC Tiepolo, Trajan, ITC Veljovic, Wiesbaden Swing, Willow, Adobe Wood type
    Good to know:
the fonts are not stored in C:/windows/fonts
    Nor are they in adobe/indesign/fonts
And last, it was not possible to pack a file, with fonts, on the old computer, export via USB stick, and then import into MacOS. MacOS did not like the fonts at all.
I called Adobe support to make them give me a new license key so I could install CS3 on MacOS and thereby get the fonts but they refused.
    Looking forward to your help!

  • InDesign Freezes when Missing Links Missing Fonts

When I open an InDesign document that has missing/updated links AND missing fonts InDesign in a sense "freezes" as with both these error pop up boxes it refuses to recognize when I click on the "fix" or "cancel" or "ignore" buttons. The only way out is to force quit and the next time I start up and open the document when these boxes pop up I click "ignore" very quickly and then fix once I am in the document. very strange I know. Has this happened to anyone else?!? If so, is there a fix? Better than force quitting?!?
I am working in CS3 and OS 10.4.11 (Mac of course :)

Just a thought -- if you use the Return key on the keyboard, does it dismiss the dialog boxes?

  • Cannot open Indesign CS3 file in CC

I have not had this problem before, I've tried other files in case the one I need is corrupt, I always get the same error messages
My ID id up to date. Thanks is advance.
    Regards
    Thorvar

Your sample file opens here just fine (other than missing links and  missing fonts) on CS3, CS6 and CC, which implies either a bad link which  ID is trying to resolve on your end, or a problem in the program.
Make sure you have the ID 9.1 patch installed, and try trashing your preferences. See Replace Your Preferences

  • InDesign CS3 Freezing Opening Glyph Pallet

This is embarassing. I logged in with the wong account so I'm reposting this under my correct account.
    Sorry.
I'm working on developing a font and have been using it in InDesign CS3 testing some of the features in the font. InD will also be the primary place we'll use the font so it's important that things work correctly. CS3 for now, CS5 later on.
In my latest generation of the font InDesign CS3 started locking up while trying to export a PDF or opening the glyph pallet. InDesign CS5 works fine.
I'm sure its the small cap feature of the font is causing the issue with CS3, removing it makes things work, I don't get small caps then, of course, but it will export a PDF and display the glyph pallet.
I think the problem is that InD CS3 is holding on to something that was previously in the font. I've tried deleting the font cache files but that didn't help.
My question is whether there is anything else I can to reset in InDesign that might make it look completely a-new at the font?
My next step will be trying to uninstall and re-install CS3, but I was hoping for an easier answer as I now have 8 computers I'll have to "fix" for the short term.
    Thanks,
    (again)
    Ken

Hmm, there are Greek references in the features. I also renamed some small cap glyphs.
The most perplexing thing is that there are 4 fonts, Regular, Italic, Bold and BoldItalic. Regular and Italic cause the problem, Bold and BoldItalic don't, but from everything I can see the small cap features and classes that are used are identical. Identical too are all the glyph names and unicode encodings.
Another interesting thing is that a test I just ran on a machine that had never before even RUN InD CS3 had the same problem. So, apparently it isn't a matter of something being left over.
I'll start looking at the language stuff between the fonts that work and those that won't.
Thanks very much for the lead.

  • Fonts missing in InDesign when they really aren't

I am using Adobe InDesign CS3 on the Windows platform, Windows XP Professional, Version 2002, Service Pack 2.
When I open certain documents in InDesign, I receive the "missing fonts" message, with certain fonts highlighted. However, when I investigated further to see what the replacement font was(by going into the text box), the missing font was definitely listed in InDesign.
Missing fonts include Helvetica Neue LT Std 57 Condensed, and Helvetica Neue LT Std 37 Thin Condensed.

Hey! The fonts were installed via the fonts control panel. I actually don't have admin access at my work computer and have to get the I.T. guy to install the fonts for me (VERY irritating). (Another gripe is that he hasn't been able to figure out a way to give me permissions on Vista's font panel since it doesn't seem to work the same as a regular folder.)
Some of the fonts that don't work are Type 1 and some are TrueType, but most are the former (I think most all the fonts on my old system were Type 1). I think in some cases there are newer Open Type fonts on the computers that conflict with them somehow or something (?). I don't know. It's very annoying. I suspect if I slaughter all the fonts on the system and just install the old ones things will be okay. I'm hesitant to do that though as there are lots of new fonts I wouldn't mind checking out.
I blamed Vista because I've had no font problems moving from one XP machine to another regardless of what fonts were already on its system. But now that I've moved up to the new platform many of the fonts just aren't recognized. In one case I found that -- although I couldn't install the fonts from an InDesign package font folder -- they worked when I installed them from the original CD. That didn't make much sense as the files should have been the same.
But anyway, it's annoying. Most of my previous work can't be opened with the correct fonts any more. Blah.

  • InDesign CS3 script that changes fonts on open

    Hello.
I am trying to come up with a script that would change a specific group of fonts, that will always show up missing, to the new font. Basically, it is a bunch of our postscript fonts that are now using our open type font. Below is what I have so far. I want to create a list that goes through about 8 fonts that are old and replace them on the fly with the 8 new fonts. This would be great if I could have this happen on open.
Can anyone see what I have and offer some guidance?
    thanks
    babs
Open this Scriplet in your Editor:
    tell application "Adobe InDesign CS3"
set find text preferences to nothing
set change text preferences to nothing
       tell application "Adobe InDesign CS3"
           set OLDfont to {"times", "arial"}
           set NEWfont to {"times new roman", "helvetica"}
--set find what of find text preferences to testString
           tell document 1
repeat with swap from 1 to 2
set NEWfont to item swap of OLDfont
               end repeat
           end tell
       end tell
    end tell

For starters, you're going to have to use the correct font names, including correct capitalization. The property you want to change is "applied font", not "find what". And it would probably be more sensible, to go through all paragraph and character styles and make the changes there first, otherwise you'll have troubles again every time you edit stuff.
So start off by getting the name of the font used in every paragraph style, and loop through your list to see if they should be changed. Do the same for character styles. And then do the find/change to find any that have been applied manually.

  • InDesign CS3 replaces unavailable Fonts

    Hi,
we have InDesign CS3 server running. The server renders Preflight PDF. If a layout uses a font that the InDesign Server doesn't know, the InDesign server replaces the unknon font with one he knows.
Is there a way to tell the InDesign CS3 server which font to for replacing an unknown font?
    Thanx for ur kind help.

I am having this same problem with the Windings font and CS3, the bullet (opt-8) does not show properly. The Bullet in Windings looks like a "Target" instead all I get is a rectangle box that is highlighted pink (highlighted pink like when a font is missing..)
The file looks fine in CS2 but doesn't when opened in CS3 on the same computer with the same fonts loaded at the same time (i.e. document is open in CS2 & CS3 side by side).
I can get the character to display properly if I use it as a Bullet (Type-Bulleted & Numbered List.)
The character doesn't display in the window but if you manually ad it as a character then it will display in the document properly where used as a Bullet but still will not display properly if used in just straight typing.
I also removed as many fonts from my system as posable, Windings was the only font activated in Extensis Suitcase Fusion v. 12.1.6. Turning Suitcase off made no difference either...
I did notice that Adobe InDesign CS3 loads fonts from this location when it starts (Library-Application Support-Adobe-fonts), if these fonts are not managed what keeps them from having a font ID conflict with another font? I did remove as many of these fonts as posable and it still made no difference with this problem though.
I had a problem like this with another font but I can't remember now what one. Thought it was a bad font at the time, although the file worked fine in CS2.

  • Importing fonts into InDesign CS3

I have an Macbook with OS10.4.11 and I'm using InDesign CS3. My question is, how do install fonts in my ID that were sent to me from someone else with ID (version not known). I tried installing the fonts in ID's Fonts folder as the help recommends, but they're still listed as missing when I open the file.
Since I'm a newbie, I'll mention that the fonts came in a separate folder, along with an Images folder, the .indd file, and an Instructions.txt file. I believe this means it was "packaged" using ID's File--Package command? Might this make a difference?
    Thanks for the help!

Try installing the fonts into your system using Font Book. Double-click on the font files to open them then click on Install Font in each open preview window.

  • I miss not having the same fonts as cs3 ie Bradshaw, Lucinda and papyrus. How can I access these.

I miss not having the same fonts as cs3 ie Bradshaw Handwriting, Lucinda and Papyrus. How can I access these on cs5? I have not found the fonts for this program to my liking.

I can't find any reference to a handwriting font named Bradshaw anywhere. Are you sure you have the name right? ITC Bradley Hand Regular, along with Papyrus and the Lucida (no "n") family are all included with recent versions of Windows, though, and should be in your font list in CS5 if you are, in fact, running Windows.
Is this the same machine that has CS3 installed? Did you remove CS3? Do the fonts show up in any other programs?  Indesign can see fonts that are installed in the system fonts, the Common Files > Adobe > Fonts folder, and the private fonts folder for InDesign in the application folder. If the fonts show in CS3, but not elsewhere, they are probably in the CS3 InDesign Fonts folder.

  • Font list wrong in InDesign CS3

I use Linotype FontExplorer X to organize and activate fonts and have been very happy with it. All of a sudden I'm finding that though I have the font "Times" (with roman, italic, bold and bold italic) activated, the font list in InDesign CS3 shows "Times (TI)" (which only has roman) and "Times (BM)" (which only has regular). If I launch InDesign CS2, the font list is correct, showing "Times" (with roman, italic, bold and bold italic) and not "Times (TI)" or "Times (BM)". What gives?
    I'm using system 10.4.10.

The usual first step for this kind of error would be to delete the Adobefnt*.lst files, where the * is any number.

  • Missing Links in InDesign CS3

We are using InDesign CS3 and the program itself works good, the problem I'm having is all our data is located on a server and I have replaced the server with a new one, now when we open a document it has missing links and it takes forever searching for \\oldserver\pictures before popping up missing links where you then point it to \\newserver\pictures. My question is why does InDesign use the unc path and not mapped drive letters? Is there a way to fix this for future? Also is there anyway to fix previous short a fixing each and ever missing link? I see CS4 has the option to check links or not but I don't see any options for CS3. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Tony

I'm not sure what that has to do with it? when opening up a documents it tries to resolve picture links the link pointing to \\oldserver\pictures (that server is no longer running) everything has been moved to \\newserver\pictures when the document finally opens you manually fix the links to point to new server save document then it opens fine the next time. I would rather have the links point to P:\Pictures as apposed to the unc path, the I wouldn't have this issue.

  • Missing fonts in InDesign CS4 - even when 'open' in Suitcase Fusion 3

Hi all, I'm running InDesign CS4 on a Intel Mac Pro (tower), about 4 years old, running OSX Snow Leopard (all updates applied).
Using Suitcase Fusion V3 for font management.
I have a document that previously had no font issues at all.  Now when I open it InDesign throws up a 'Missing font' error.
I have the correct fonts installed and 'open' in Suitcase Fusion.
The font is available in Simpletext and Pages, but not InDesign and Illustrator.
The troublesome font was OK the other day and has been since it was installed.
I've not changed anything that I'm aware of... but now InDesign won't 'see' the font.
In the 'Find Font' dialogue box the 'Path' says it's 'Unkown or missing'.
InDesign can see the other weights in the font family (bold, italic etc) but not regular.  And yet the entire font family is in the same folder on my hard drive.
I've tried deleting all the' Adobe.lst' files.  No Joy.
I've run Font Doctor on the whole font family, its says it's OK.
    I've tried re-installing the font from a back-up.  Nada.
If anyone has any suggestions..... feel free to let rip!
As ever, I await your expertise and unstinting knowledge in these matters   And, needless to say, I'll be mighty appreciative for it!
    RP

Hi Bob, strangely... I've put the troublesome font, Dax (T1) Regular, in the Applications/Adobe InDesign CS4/Fonts folder and it seems to be working.
Never had to do that before.
Would be great to get back to 'normal'.  If possible.
Although I have many duplicates spread across back-up drives and collected artwork folders, I've also tried to eliminate any duplicate 'open' versions.  But the above solution is the only one that works at the moment.
    RP
p.s. I also tried removing any AdobeFNT**.lst files, (where ** is a number) before the above work around.  That didn't work either.
