Missing frames importing from .mov

I'm trying to import several .mov files into imovie, and am having problems with imovie removing many frames from each. The help file said that it may be a problem with FileVault being on, but I checked and it is, and has been, off. Any idea how to fix this? I'm using iMovie 4.0.1, and have OSX 10.3.9.
Thanks in advance.

iMovie is a video edit app meant to work with firewire connected miniDV camcorders
soo, any videos outside the standard settings of NTSC/PAL needs a conversion, e.g. in your case, I'm pretty sure, your files don't have 30fps, have they?
and iM/Quicktime has to "add" interlacing... that is heavily computing...
if MMFlash offers some settings in its export dialog, set to dv/NTSC… direct-from-source to wanted format is allways rcommended procedure....

  • All clips missing after import from camcorder!

All clips are missing after import from camcorder - Canon ZR20.  For some tapes all clips are there, for others there are none.  All the files are there in the finder, but I don't know how to have them show up in Final Cut Pro X.
    Any suggestions?

Ok - this is frustrating.  I have been importing my old miniDV tapes again into FCPX as I wasn't able to transfer all of these projects from iMovie - don't get me started...  After importing about 7 of the tapes the first 3 came in fine, but the last 4 didn't have any clips as I said in my original posting.  Now after restarting FCPX a couple of times all of a sudden the clips are all coming in!  Strange!  Guess I'm OK now.

  • 2 sec. of video missing on import from camcorder

Hello, I'm hoping someone has an idea what I can do to fix this problem. I went to the apple store for help and they have never seen this happen. I have a JVC HD camcorder (GZ HD7U). I am importing dance recital footage into imovie. When I import it into imovie it is divided into two clips. There are a couple of seconds missing between the two clips but when I watch the dance on my camera the footage is continuous-the missing two seconds are there. Any idea how to get the continuous footage into imovie?? Or if anyone has a suggestion of a work around I would really appreciate it. Thanks so much!

It might be worth your while to view the iMovie tutorials at http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/imovie/index.html because they can answer a lot of questions you may be having with your new computer.
If your iSight camera was on while you were trying to import video from your camera into iMovie, something was set wrong.

When I try to import either.avi or.mov from the Movies folder on my MacBook (the Movies folder has not changed location- it's on the Macintosh HD) iMovie '11 tells me one of two things:

Are you saving the events to your internal hard drive or an external via USB as you capture? Reason I ask is I had this problem when capturing directly to my external USB drive I use to store my camcorder footage on. When I switched to saving to my internal it solved the problem. What I now do is save it to my internal (1 tape at a time) and then close iMovie '08 and then copy the event to the iMovie Events folder on my external hard drive. I then delete it on my internal. Open up iMovie and voila, its there and works.

  • Designing frames imported from JBuilder

Hello everyone, I've tried looking for that info but didn't manage. Sorry if it has already been posted.
I have imported a JBuilder project in Netbeans through the JBuilder Project Importer module and I cannot see the design of its frame classes, only the source. Is there a way to convert the Jbinit methodes or something else that can resolve my problem?
The project builds and runs just fine under Netbeans, apart from the following warning:
Note: Some input files use or override a deprecated API.
Note: Recompile with -Xlint:deprecation for details.
Note: Some input files use unchecked or unsafe operations.
Note: Recompile with -Xlint:unchecked for details.I am currently using the 1.6.0 JDK and the JBuilder project was made with the 1.4.2 JDK, if that helps.
    Thanks in advance.

Those warnings (likely) have nothing to do with JBuilder or NetBeans. It's the fact that your moving from 1.4.2 to 6.
I'm currently going through the same thing (though we're only moving to 1.5). I got 4800+ "unchecked" warnings because of generics. A few others appeared (deprecated and such) but about 98% were unchecked warnings.
    Some choices:
    1) roll up the sleeves and fix 'em all
    2) ignore them if the code still works
    3) annotations (these are cool as I've just learned)
    4) compiler args (nowarn, deprecation, target=1.4, source=1.4, etc.)
When you do compile with -Xlint options, you also should use -Xmaxwarns [some really high number] to see just how deep you're in. Keep bumping up the number until you see them all. As stated before, I had to go to 5000 to see them all (default is 100).
    Good luck.

  • Import from Movie Maker

My son is working on a history project in iMovie. His friend did some work for the same project using Windows Movie Maker. I don't know if WMM uses DV or not. Can he export his WMM work into a format that can be imported into iMovie?

The formats are not compatible, but you can save the WMM work to a DV camera and then import it to iMovie as one clip. I'm not real familiar with WMM but where you go to save your work, there are options to save as a wmv file. You should be able to save/export it to a tape.

  • Dropped frames when importing from sony dcr-hc52

    hey all,
i'm getting a lot of dropped frames when importing from my sony cdr-hc52. anyone had this experience? is there a setting i'm missing that would correct this?

Hello kellyfromkenley, Depending on how you move the video or share the video from iMovie to iDVD it can make a big difference. One way is to go to the Share Menu > Share to iDVD. But the better is to Share to Media Browser instead. Try this:
Go back to iMovie and open your Project in Project Library.
Go to Share Menu > Share to Media Browser
Choose the Large size and let it run until it finishes
    Quit iMovie and open iDVD.
In iDVD click on the Media Button, then click on the Movies button and look for your project under the iMovie star icon in the Media Browser itself.
Drag that project icon into the iDVD project window and burn another disk
I think you'll see an increase in the visual quality using this method.
The reason this has an effect on the visual quality is there's a whole different set of operations performed on the video when you first Share to Media Browser. The side effect of those changes in steps is a much better looking DVD from your iMovie project.

  • How do I move a graphic-box in a document I imported from AppleWorks?

I imported a book which I wrote in AppleWorks without problems into Pages '08. On one page of this book I had created a box, using the graphics tool, and moved it to the back so I could read the text inside it. It is now in the Pages '08 version of my book, but because of editing and additional writing which I've done, it appears on page 295, not 297 where it belongs. In AppleWorks I could simply select it and drag it into place. In Pages '08 I can't figure out how to select it. It's just there.
    Help desperately needed.

Here is an AppleScript which, in a single call will
    • extract the embedded picture files
    • strip the annoying description of the 'background' pictures from the Index.xml file.
So, we may open the Pages document, it will be free of the oddity and the picture files are available in the folder "importés_sétropmi" on the desktop.
    --(SCRIPT recupPictures]
Save the script as an Application (Bundle Application if you want to use it on a MacIntel)
    Store it on the Desktop.
Drag and drop the icon of a Pages document imported from AppleWorks on the script's icon.
The script will move the embedded picture files in a folder named "importés_sétropmi" on the desktop.
Then it will strip the Index.xml file from the block of datas describing the embedded pictures.

  • Importing problem w/ mini DV (missing frames)

    Hi all,
I have two different sets of mini DV tapes (shot with 2 different cameras). They are both game footage for football. Each set provides a different angle (wide angle and tight angle views). I imported both onto iMovie however I had problems with the tight tapes.
The wide angle tapes import just fine but when I try the tight tapes they don't register in the "frame boxes" to the right of the monitor. To be clear, the video itself shows up in the monitor just fine but doesn't appear in real time within the frames...and eventually it does but when I play it back the video is missing frames and is very jumpy.
Because the wide tapes work I know I'm not doing some basic thing wrong- I'm curious as to why the tape from the tight DVs doesn't register. I know the two cameras were different so consequently the two mini DVs are different. Does this have anything to do with the settings of each? It's very odd...any thoughts?
    -Greg

    Welcome to iMovie Discussions.
Were the poor tapes shot at LP or Super-LP speed?
Could the heads in the poor (narrow) camera need cleaning? (Camcorders, especially Sonys, sometimes replace poor frames 'on-the-fly' while you're watching in the viewfinder, or on a monitor, but that doesn't happen when the poor recordings are exported via FireWire.)
What happens when you swap the tapes between the camcorders and then import? ..In other words, is it the tapes or the camcorders?
(NOTE: a Super Long Play tape swapped into another camcorder may not play back properly because of discrepancies in head alignment ..which may be causing the poor importing anyway - tape and heads shrink and expand in temperature extremes, so shooting a Super LP tape outdoors on a cold day and then replaying indoors in the warmth may produce poor tape/head alignment.)
Which cameras were they, and what happens when you swap the tapes between cameras?

  • Can't import video (.mov) from Coolpix P100 camera to iPhoto

I can't import any .mov files from my Coolpix p100 camera to iPhoto (iPhoto '08, version 7.1.5) Mac OS X 10.4.11. I can import pictures no problem when I use a firewire connection from the camera to my iBook G4. This is the message I get:
    Unreadable files.
The following file could not be imported. (The import failed)
    DSCN0573.MOV
For example, I can see the .mov file under "Information" before I try to import. It says it is a QuickTime movie, 274 MB. I can watch it on my camera.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Is there a chance the .mov file could be imported via some
third party (free ware) video software into the Mac, such as
VLC or a shareware video utility; perhaps Snapz ProX?
Another idea may be to see if the iMovie software would do it.
This topic has come up several years ago, and depending on
the model or brand of camera in some cases, different paths
were taken to get the product and files to work.
In a few cases, some proprietary software provided limited
support for a camera's feature set; some didn't work for Mac.
When the camera creates a hybrid image file, and their own
software was not available in a Mac format, another may be
available to provide the missing link.
There may be some third-party plug-ins that may allow the
QuickTime you have, to open and view the .mov files; not
sure what exact ones would qualify, however, to do it.
With my cameras, which can create .mov files, I have not
experimented with them; as both are essentially still image
cameras and know the results wouldn't suit my projects.
Hopefully one of the video player software products can help.
    Good luck & happy computing!

When importing a .mov file with sound into iMovie 10.0.3, the audio does not import with the video. I have no sound. The file plays and sounds fine on the desktop. What am I doing wrong?

    Hello John,
Check out the first article for some troubleshooting steps to see if anything is preventing the audio from playing properly. Also try using QuickTime to convert the video in a different format and then import it into iMovie to see if that changes things.

  • Can I change where itunes grabs artwork frame from movie

It seems that when I import a movie into itunes, the artwork for it is automatically created from a frame somewhere in the 10-15 second range.
Is this a preference and can I change it?
    thanks in advance.

firstly, buy an external harddrive, or add another harddrive (if you have a laptop) for the extra space. dell has a 3tb for about $89  sata desktop harddrive i believe.. but you will need to open itunes and look under preferences or options under view menu. there is an option to change where you import your CD's and photo's  but i have never seen an option to move your backups, but if it exsists it will be in with the rest of the file directory cvhanging options.

  • Why does my project and imported media in browser missing frames?

    Hello!!!
I have been using Final Cut Pro for about 6 months now and loved everything about it! However, since I have updated my software system and app itself I have been experiencing "missing frames" during playback and in the clip itself in my event browser. I have tried downloading Preference Manager to resolve the problem and it still doesnt help. What is the problem? Why does this happen? and what can I do? Is it an import setting? or maybe a recording setting on my camera.
Please a solution would be greatly appreciated as I have deadlines to make and I can't fluently edit my projects.
Additional info: when I export a file that misses frames during playback it is smooth and nothing seems wrong.
    Thanks guys!!!

    Some things to check:
Your media drive should have 15-20% free space. Does it after your clean up?
What kind of connection…Thunderbolt and USB3?
Is quality set to Better Performance?
If the answers to all of the above are yes, and you're still having problems, download and run one of the speed tests from ALA or Blackmagic.
Create proxy media and edit with Proxy, (Don't forget to change the setting back to Original/Optimized before you export.)

  • After I import a movie file from the camera memory card, Imovie 10.0.1 acts as if the memory card is empty though I know it isn't.... I can't import that file to iMovie again.. is that the way it worksnow?  Thank you, Filippo

On IMac 10.9  After I import a movie file from the camera memory card to Imovie 10.0.1 it acts as if the memory card is empty though I know it isn't.... I can't import that file to iMovie again.. is that the way it works now?  Anyone know?  Thanks, Filippo

I would like to know this too. I imported a lot of files, then Imovie crashed. I went back in and they are not in imovie at all.
I reconnected the camcorder to import again and though they are still on the camcorder, I no longer see them in the available list of files to import. I'm sure there is some sort of simple setting somewhere that reveals all files even if it thinks they are imported.
    Thanks

  • How can I import a movie into iMovie 09 from a hard drive?  The movie will open and play in idvd but breaks into separate files that can't be downloaded when I try to import.  Can it be done?

How can I import a movie into iMovie 09 from a hard drive?  The movie will open and play in idvd but breaks into separate files that can't be downloaded when I try to import.  Can it be done? I am trying to create a disc of player highlights for a collegiate coach, and I am using movie files downloaded to my hard drive from a DVD created on a PC.

No unfortunately it won't open in quicktime either.  It does the same thing that Imovie does, separates it into two file folders audio and video, and if i select video it opens to reveal 8 files that cannot be selected.  VIDEO_TS.BUP, VIDEO_TS.IFO, VIDEO_TS.VOB,VTS_01_0.BUP, VTS_01_0.IFO, VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VB, VTS_01_3.VOB.  All of which cannot be opened or selected.
Opening it in Idvd and folllowing your suggestion works and I get a format code of NTSC.  Is that the same?  Thank you for your time and response.
