Missing free distort plug-in

Hi,
I tried opening a file recently but I got this message:
"The document 'package.ai" contains elements that are managed by plug-ins that are not currently available. You can delete or expand these elements but you cannot manipulate them in other ways. The missing plug-ins are listed below. Free Distort (Free Distort.aip)"
I have been using free distort without any issues in the past so I don't know why there would suddenly be an issue with it now. I tried restarting everything and checked multiple files, but it's still as if the plug in just disappeared. I started a new file and tried to use free distort on it. Free distort was one of the options in the effect drop down menu, but nothing happened when I clicked it. I checked in program files>adobe>adobe illustrator CS5>plug-ins>illustrator filters and the Free Distort plug-in was there.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

It's probably being blocked by your virus scanner or inaccessible due to botched user permissions.

Udev misses some (HDMI) plug/unplug events

When I monitor udev events while plugging and unplugging my external hdmi monitor, only some random events are reported.
It should be noted that I use a DVI screen with an HDMI cable and a small adapter between the cable and the screen.

Should I look for bugs in the kernel modules ? In udev ?

I experience the same thing with my HP laptop. Udev sometimes detects the change, but sometimes it doesn't. If I open KDE Settings, the change is detected.

I downloaded program and now it says i;m missing a PDF plug in

I downladed the program already but now when I try to open it says i'm missing a PDF plug in. Where do I find this and how do I fix it.?

You may try to uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool and reinstall.

I doubt it is worth trying to (guess which you are missing and) struggle with the missing plugin, and there may be more things wrong even if you succeed.

We have heard this issue on some customers machine after 17.1 update.
The only solution for this was to uninstall Ai and reinstall. If you install directly 2014 release then issue won't be there.

Using the Missing Fonts Loader Plug-in

The plug-in searches for fonts in font groups defined in FontExpert. If a missing font is not found in the FontExpert

When InDesign opens the document, it may still mark fonts as missing, even though they were actually activated
by the plug-in during the opening of the document. In this case, you may be required to reopen document to let
InDesign know that all missing fonts are now activated.
The font information xml file helps solve this problem. It is recommended to select the Use font information xml
files option. Every time you save the .indd document, the Missing Fonts Loader plug-in will create a small xml file.
This xml file will include the list of fonts used in the corresponding .indd document. When this xml file is present,
the plugin can activate fonts just before the InDesign actually opens the document and searches it for missing
fonts. (You will find the xml file near the Adobe InDesign .indd document on your computer.)
Manual Activation
When the Activate Missing Fonts Automatically checkbox is cleared, the plug-in
does not activate missing fonts when you open the document. You can open the plug-in
window and activate fonts manually.

Free Distort not working in Illustrator 18.1.1

Anyone else having an issue with this after the most recent update? While some notable bugs were fixed (color picker bar issue on secondary monitor), my coworkers and I are now experiencing a new bug with the Free Distort. After choosing Free Distort under Effect>Distort and Transform, you used to be able to mess with individual corners and see the effect previewed. Now, on my secondary monitor, all sides are not able to be viewed, and you are not able to grab any corners to modify. When moving the dialog box to the primary monitor, all sides of the shape are then visible, but there is still no control or ability to grab and change/distort corners. Would love to hear if others are having any issues and if there will be a fix soon!

I understand you can't check that Ton, I am now appealing to others who might have this issue using Mavericks. Thanks for your input regarding the non-issue on Yosemite.
The warnings about upgrading were not from my coworkers, they were from Adobe Experts that run my local Adobe Illustrator User Group. I think we can all agree that Mac OS developers and Adobe program developers probably don't go out to lunch together very often, so as with past updates, it usually takes a version or three before kinks/bugs/problems/whatever-you-want-to call-them get noticed and addressed. So my coworkers and I cannot lose time at work with the possibility of the new operating system not jiving correctly with the most recent Adobe updates, that's all I mean. As far as specific kinks, the most serious one I've seen on the forums so far is the program crashing/not opening.

Thanks, already managed to fix it with Time Machine Back-Up, however, you need only to restore the Safari.app file (can be found in Applications in Time Machine at a date before the last software upgrade to Safari 5.1)
So, practically,
go to Enter Time Machine
-> browse (using the arrows at right hand bottom) to a date when everthing was still working
-> go to Finder
-> go to the hard drive (probably named Macintosh HD)
-> go to Applications
-> go to Safari.app
-> highlight Safari.app by clicking on it
-> hold 'ctrl' key and click again
-> select from the drop menu that appears 'Get Info'
-> next verify that is written 'version 5.0.5'
-> close Info drop menu
-> make sure the file Safari.app is still highlighted and click on 'Restore' under the arrows at righthand bottom of screen in Time Machine.
Now you can leave Time Machine by clicking on Cancel on lefthand bottom
Safari 5.0.5 will be added to the Applications under Safari.app (Safari 5.1 will also still be there and has the word (original) written behind it) drag this (original) marked file to the trash.
That's all, works very good and means the whole system does not have to be re-installed.
Hopefully Apple will cure this 5.1 version quickly - Make sure always to make a Time Machine Back-up before updating software!

Illustrator free distort does not transform anchor points

When using Illustrator CS5 after applying the Free Distort effect, the anchor points remain in the original location. How can I get the anchor points to align to the transformed object?

It is an effect so it does not really change the object. That's why you can always go back and change or delete the effect.
If you want the effect permanently applied select Object > Expand Appearance.

Any way to change the window size in Free Distort tool?

The little window that opens up when you selected the Effect -- Distort & Transform -- Free Distort tool is so small I can't get it to do what I want it to do. The minimum amount of distortion is about twice as much as what I'm trying to achieve. The anchor points are magnetic, and they either snap to the undistorted corners of the object bounding box, or else they snap outward to a degree that's much more than I'm trying to do. Here's what it looks like.

I don't know how to change the size of the free distort dialog. However, for your particular transformation, you could draw a rectangle that covers your type, distort it using the free transform tool (or any number of other tools), and perform an envelope distort with top object.
The resulting "live" object will be editable to the extent that you can modify the envelope shape after the distortion is applied (and have the text conform). However, the text itself will not be "live" (editable) as it would be with the free distort effect.

Allow Free Distort like Photoshop

In Photoshop, you can pull an image's control handles around to your heart's content, and fine tune the distortion to line up with a perspective grid. In Illustrator, you can only distort the bounding box of the whole shape, so once you move a single control handle, you lose control of one or more corners of the image, making precise distortions almost impossible. The best we have right now is the Effect > Distort & Transform > Free Distort tool, but there's no preview, so again, you can't line up the shape with a perspective grid.
Please make Illustrator's Free Distort tool like Photoshop's!

OK....so it's three years on from that original post (and the problem was around for years before that). We have seen all kinds of silly unnecessary fluff appear in the versions of Illustrator since then, but this fundamental bug still remains. It's such an important part of any workflow, and is so well implemented by the Adobe folks at Photoshop and After Effects. If anyone who programs Illustrator is reading this, please PLEASE admit that you're really not very good - just go Effect > Distort & Transform > Free Distort to see what I mean (look at that interface! Where's the Preview? Is this chunk of code from the 1980s?). Please swallow your misplaced pride, and ask one of the AE or PS people to do your job for you - properly. They'd probably fix the problem in 5 minutes. Admit it to yourself, your 'O' level in BASIC programming from 1979 just won't cut it any more.
We all know that AI is a piece of junk - old bits of hastily cobbled-together code from various vintages, so please concentrate on just making it NOT SUCK, before you try to add a veneer of shiny new features to distract people from the underlying problems this piece of bloatware has. It really needs re-writing from the ground up, just not in COBOL or FORTRAN.
....not that this will go anywhere...what am I going to do? Use FreeHand instead?! Ugh. The joys of a monopoly.
If EVERYONE who faces this problem in Illustrator submits a bug report (because it IS a bug - surely this is not "as designed"?!), maybe someone might take notice, and in another 3 years' time, the problem might get fixed. We can live in hope.....
I haven't ploughed through every post in this thread, so it might have been mentioned already...but there is a kind-of (not very good) workaround, using Object > Envelope Distort > Make with Mesh (and set the mesh to 1x1). The corners have stupid Bezier handles, which won't go away, even using the Anchor Point Tool, so it will try to warp/bend the thing all over the place. But with some careful faffing around, and assuming you don't mind the artwork ending up a bit bent, you can get almost acceptable results.

Missing .fres file (Windows)

I've written an InDesign plugin for Macintosh using the CS3 SDK. It works fine. I now need to get a windows version working.
I'm using the CS2 SDK for Windows (and yes, I'll use the CS3 also when I make a CS3 version) and I'm having a bit of a problem.
My .fres file isn't being created.
Merging Resources...
".\..\objd\ColorMunkiProfileSetter"\PrnSel.fres doesn't exist
That is the error I get but that makes sense, since I don't have a .fres file. The real issue is that my fres file isn't being created.
Here's how I made my project.
1) I cloned the PrintSelection sample from the CS2 SDK.
2) I took my CS3 Macintosh code and did a diff on the files, moving the important parts of my code, which was based on the CS3 SDK, into the CS2 based files. Really, there wasn't very much, just some printer callbacks and changing the names in the .fr file
3) I modified the .vcproj file to point to MY new source code, not the PrintSelection source code
4) I modified the .vcproj file to use my objd folder, not the PrinteSelection one.
That's it. I can build PrintSelection and it builds fine and runs, but when I build my the .fres is not created, so therefore merge_res doesn't run.
This is very frustrating and I would appreciate any advice. Thanks!

I guess it just goes to show, the best way to solve your problem is to ask for help!
I fixed the above problem by using WinDiff on the two .vcproj files. This show that there was a difference in the build commands, in the resource area. But of course! I have no idea how I missed that in Visual Studio GUI.
So now my .fres file is created and all is good. Well, not quite...
Now when I launch InDesign I get the error
"MYPLUGIN.PLN" Plug-in is missing plug-in resource!
Looks like I'd better go back to the diff and see what I missed. And, of course, if you've encountered this, I appreciate any help. Thanks.

IBooks missing free Winnie-the-Pooh on iPod touch 4G iOS 4.2.1

First app I download on the new iPod touch 4G using iOS 4.2.1 was iBooks. App is fine but it doesn’t appear to include the free Winnie-the-Pooh. I have the same app on my iPhone with Winnie but that uses a different host machine, a different account, a different iTunes with different Apple ID so I don’t think that’s a factor in the missing book. I can manually download other books from the iBookstore but the colourful Winnie is missing. Tried deleting several times but each new load is missing Winnie. Any ideas?

RE: Charts are Missing From OEM Plug-In

- But when I tried to reload the OEM plug-in, the charts did not appear on the homepage.

For example, under which directory should the charts xml file appear?

Support does have a force undeploy tool you can use for the case of a decommissioned agent (as you've described). The basic functionality is to remove the deployment entries for the dead agent only from the MP deployment tables (mgmt_mp_deployments, mgmt_mp_deployment_errors, mgmt_mp_nls_substitutions - You'll need to find your MP_GUID from the mgmt_management_plugins table to do it). Of course, doing this manually is not recommended/supported/etc.... so be very careful.
Then you can undeploy from any other agents where it still exists and delete it from the Management Plug-ins page. In this case, the delete of all versions from the repository will enact the final undeploy from the repository and clean up the plug-in.

Missing Camera Raw Plug-in for Photoshop CC

Camera Raw is missing from the Applications/PhotoshopCC/Plug-ins folder. When uploading images from Lightroom a message appears to the effect that CR version 8.4 is required. It advises to update through PS help menu which advises that all apps are up to date. Should I uninstall and reinstall Photoshop CC?

Camera Raw is not installed in the Plug-Ins folder, that is just for third party plugins. If you find Camera Raw in that folder, you've made a mistake somewhere. Camera Raw is installed in a shared location outside the Photoshop folder.
And have you installed the ACR 8.4 update?

We tend to not assume it'll work & blindly fire off updates. You see, when we (IT Only) upgaded to X from 9, the new 'protected mode' feature caught us off guard. We assumed we had done something wrong with the packaging and so spent a few days making sure we crossed our t's and dotted our i's before escalating to the vendors. And when we reached out they came back with a very simple "ohh yeah just check off a box", making us feel a bit foolish. I wanted to be sure there wasn't some other new measure put in place to further try to secure Reader.
As it turns out,
LexisNexis had to update their package for CaseMap 10 for Reader XI, and they have no plans to patch earlier versions.
Autonomy / Interwoven is set to release FileSite 8.5 SP3 Update 6 in Q1 which will support XI.
As you stated, vendors have to produce updates.
