Missing "Guided Access" Feature on ipad 1

Has anyone had this problem?  We have all 4 iPad versions but our original iPad 1 (1st gen) seems to all of a sudden be missing the Learning feature, "Guided Access" (in the General Settings under Accessibility).  We use this learning feature for our 3 year old and 5 year old with Down syndrome who both love their iPads.
Can anyone tell me if there is a solution or quick fix for this missing feature?  Or do I need to do a hard reset?  The version that it's running says up to date, (Version 5.1.1), and if I'm correct, I don't belive there are any other updates for this original iPad.
Thanks in advance...

Hi Robdrage,
Thanks so much - But, I know that I've used it before on my daughter's iPad (1st Gen), and had always used it because she was much too young at age 2 last year to understand not to press certain parts on the screen or the home button.  Now that she's 3, she's very well adjusted to what she can't or shouldn't press while using her iPad, however sometimes little fingers still slip up.  So, how did I use it before if it was only a iOS 6 feature?  Even here this article I found while searching for an answer or help with this missing feature, showed that Guided Access existed for iPad 1... https://snapguide.com/guides/lock-your-ipad-to-1-app-using-guided-access/
I know I can't be loosing my mind - there would have been no way I didn't use it before, we have always used it!  How can this be?
I have all the versions of iPads, so I know there are many things the old 1st Gen can't do or handle due to it's limited OS.  But, honestly - I know we used Guided Access!
This is making me think I'm crazy!!

  • Guided access malfunction on iPad air

When I try using guided access on my iPad air it flips screen making it difficult to outline ares that I don't want my child to touch.

Same problem on my IPad Air, too. I've tested it with the new IOS 7.0.4. On an iPhone 5s it works fine, also on a 3rd generation iPad. It seems only the iPad Air (maybe the iPad mini 2, too?) has this problem.
Could anybody else reproduces this behavior?

  • How do I turn VoiceOver off when I am locked in Guided Access on an iPad?

I have an iPad that I use in therapy with children with impairments and often have to switch between accessibility options.  I am currently stuck in the TouchChat app with VoiceOver and Guided Access both turned on.  Every time I triple click the home button the accessibility options come up but it just reads the options aloud to me rather than letting me turn VoiceOver off.  Since I am also in Guided Access I am unable to get out of the app to go to settings to turn the VoiceOver off.  I have even tried a forced shutdown hoping that that would help, but when I turn it back on I am automatically locked back in TouchChat.  Please help!  How do I turn VoiceOver off when I am also locked in Guided Access?

Open the Seeing tab of the Universal Access pane of System Preferences and turn it off. If it's on at the login window, turn it off from the Accounts pane under Login Options.

  • IPad stuck on guided access?

I turned on guided access on my iPad, but when I triple click the home button to exit, it nothing shows up but a message saying 'Guided access is enabled. Triple click the home button to exit". How can I fix this? It won't turn off or anything.

You're right sberman, that is how it is SUPPOSED to work but the problem is, Guided Access doesn't always work like it should.  I use this for my 11 month old, and in the FIsher Price apps (and some others) once you enable guided access and try triple clicking the home button to end Guided Access, the screen just says "guided access is enabled" – (no kidding!)
Short of whipping the iPad across the room when the iPad is making tinkerbell noises with every gesture from a kid's app and you need to get back to work, you can force reboot the iPad by holding down the home & sleep/wake buttons at the same time for 15 seconds.  When the screen goes dark, press the sleep/wake button and the the iPad will reboot and you can use it again.
Hopefully Apple solves this bug.  It's potentially a great feature, but this bug really kills it.

  • Guided Access - can one disable iPad by trying to unlock Guided Access?

    URGENT - NEED TO KNOW:
If someone triple clicks Home Button and trys wrong passcode 10 times to unlock Guided Access will the iPad become disabled?

If you have set up that iPad to disable after 10 wrong passcodes, then yes.  But you can turn off that setting.  It's right at the bottom of the 'Passcode Lock' settings panel.

    Hi shelli7911,
If you are having issues with Guided Access on your iPad, you may find the following article helpful:
    End a Guided Access session
    Triple-click the Home button.
    Enter the Guided Access passcode.

  • Only access iTunes on iPad!!

Does anyone know if its possible or there is an app available so that you can access iTunes from the sleep/lock screen. I have a lot of music on my iPad which I stream to various airplay devices. During party's, bbq's etc my iPad gets passed round as people select music they would like like played. Only this involves me giving access to my whole iPad. Was hoping the was a way that I can give people my iPad and the only thing they can access is iTunes.
    Any suggestions please......

Use Guided Access to restrict the iPad to the Music app only. I assume that you do mean you are using the Music App and not iTunes. iTunes is the link to the store on the iPad.

  • Phone is stuck on guided access

Help used the new guided access feature and now wont let me unlock

Same here.  My daughter was playing in guided access and a notification interrupted her application.  After closing it, triple clicking the home button did nothing.  It just shows the "Guided Access Mode Enabled - Triple Click Home Button to Exit."  No easy fix, but you can plug it into iTunes and do a "Restore."  Make sure you do a backup before so you can just restore the whole thing exactly as it was before it got stuck.
Apple really needs to have an override for this in case it gets stuck; like plug it into iTunes and enter your AppleID. Until then, no more Guided Access for me...

  • How can I keep Guided Access going after battery is drained?

I sometimes put my son's iPod into Guided Access mode so he can listen to music, but not play games (i.e. at bedtime). He discovered that he can defeat Guided Access by draining the battery completely. He has an iPod Touch MD057LL/A (iOS 6.1.6).
Has anyone else encountered this weakness in the Guided Access feature? Does anyone know how to fix it?
    Thanks.

The good news. Congrats, you have a smart kid. The bad news. That's a loophole he exploited. There is no fix currently. In fact, he can just disable it by holding the home and sleep/wake buttons until he sees the Apple logo to do a reboot. It's only a matter of time before he figures that one out and doesn't have to wait for the battery to drain.

  • Guided Access Dilemma

I activated the guided access of my ipad and used it in one of the apps that I am a using right now, my problem is guided access does not allow me to get out of the apps that I am using right now despite the fact that I am triple clicking the home button. (Triple clicking the home button will disabled the guided access)

  • Is it possible to write an app which is able to modify Guided Access settings?

I am writing an app which involves modifying the Guided Access feature settings - in particular changing the passcode and turning the feature on and off - is this possible?

    No.
Only the user can make changes to those settings.

  • IOS 7.1.1 - can I disable triple-home-click going to Guided Access?

Topic says it all, basically.  Several times I've accidentally turned on GuidedAccess (where it speaks all the commands), by inadvertently hitting Home 3 times. I know I can turn it back off the same way, but is there a way to either completely disable the triple-home-click starting Guided Access, or at least re-assign that key combination to some other, less irritating, option?
I have iOS 7.1.1, and there is NO "Triple Home Click" option in Settings -> General -> Accessibility as there apparently used to be in earlier iOS versions (6 and before?).

That is not technically Guided Access. Its Voice Over.   Guided Access locks the iPad to a single App.
    Yes, you can disable it.
Settings->General->Accessibility->Accessibility Shortcut-> Tap on Voice Over to remove the checkmark and turn off the triple click shortcut.

  • My iPad is stuck in guided access and triple clicking the home button is not working.... Suggestions?

My iPad is stuck in the guided access accessibility feature and the triple click home to exit is not working. I can not do anything on my iPad! Any suggestions?

Try resetting the iPad - press and hold the Poewr and Home buttons until the screen goes blank, then release them. The iPad should reboot. Go straight into the Settings app and turn off Guided Access.

  • IPad doesn't go into sleep mode when guided access is enabled

My iPad doesn't go into sleep mode when guided access is enabled despite having set "enable sleep mode" to on in the settings menu.  COnsequently, my battery life drains very quickly during the day as the screen doesn't dim or go into sleep mode at all.  Help!

Seems this feature is lost with iOS 7.0.4.  I just bought 4 iPod Touches for employee use and NEED to have sleep mode enabled for guided access to conserve battery life.
I did have 1 iPod that allowed me to enable sleep mode (and I tested that it allowed the top button to be pressed to immediately go to sleep), then after it ran the 7.0.4 upgrade it no longer allowed sleep mode when in guided access (I did not check the original version of iOS on the iPod but it was obviously older than 7.0.4).
Is there some new hidden way to turn this on or did Apple delete the option?
