Missing HD codec - I think?

Ever since I upgraded to Quicktime Pro (and I don't really expect that be the cause) I have lost all ability to play and edit HD video. Quicktime will only play the audio and other video players say that I am missing the necessary codec. I used to be able to play and edit HD video files, so I'm a little annoyed.

Can you be specific as to the codec or format? HD just means a frame size.

  • "Premiere Pro CS3" is missing some codecs!

    Hi!
First of all, thanks for stoping by and read my post.
It's me first time ever using Premiere Pro CS3. I tried to some basic video editing on it, but I cannot hear any sound coming out of my laptop speakers; when i import the video clips. Even tho, I can hear them with "Windows Media Player". So, I investigated a bit and I did some of the things adviced by Adobe's knowledgebase thing.
And, I came up with a paper saying to download "MediaInfo" and "GSpot" to find out the codecs of the "mpg" files. Here is a report i made with the information given by those programs:

As you can see "Premiere Pro CS3" is missing some codecs, so my question is where can I download those?
I forgot to tell you, that I use a HP laptop Dual core Intel processor with Win Vista Home 2 GB of RAM and 160 GB of HD
    Thanks in advance
P.S. I am attaching the Diagdx.txt, even tho I don't think has to necesary
P.S. 2. I just saw another post similar to this one, but it doesn't tell you how to make "Premiere Pro" get the audio to work in my clips and finished project

Most good file converters can handle Video and Audio. If you are having issues with the Audio, both Audition and SoundBooth can convert to almost anything and any sample rate and bit depth.
Here's a LINK to the PrPro Wiki. There are links to various aspects of conversion there.
Now, remember that when working FROM MPEG-2 and also AC3, the files are compressed to begin with. Quality will suffer, and there is only one way around that - go back to the original source files. If not possible, then you have to determine if the quality has suffered too much.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • QuickTime 7.1 missing the codec

    Hi,
I try to open an avi file (DivX + MP3) with QT embedded in an html page.
I get a message telling I'm missing some codecs and a button that opens the following URL: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/resources/components.html
But this page is commercial verbose, I just like to know what should I install to have my QT playing avi videos.
And if possible, where can I find a list of codecs supporting various audio/video types with QT...
    Thanks
    Jean-Pierre

    QuickTimeKirk, thanks for the reply.
Yes, I think as you that the problem is from FLV exporter from Flash 8. It is not Universal. I will not go backward with QT. I prefer to wait until the UB Flash 8 Pro see the light..... or Flash Pro 9 (for sure it will be Universal)
    Thanks again !

  • 5.0.2 Missing MPEG codecs?

    Hello All,
The Adobe Updater just automatically updated Premiere CS5 to 5.0.2 and now I don't have any of the MPEG based codecs in my sequence presets. No AVCHD, no XD cam, nothing. Anybody else seen this, and how do you suppose one goes about regaining access to these now-missing codecs? I'm currently unable to continue working on my AVCHD projects.
    Chris

Makes me wonder if going through that routine might solve my missing HDV CODEC's in Bridge problem?  But with Master Suite, I'm looking at setting aside beaucoup hours to uninstall, clean, reboot, clean reboot, reinstall, reactivate.
Anyone have a gut feeling if that might help me rid my dependance on the 3rd party mpeg CODECS?

  • Missing Quicktime Codec

I am running Quicktime Version 10.1 (501) on my MacBook, yet after upgrading to OS X Lion Quicktime will not play videos saying that a codec is missing. I click on the file and then get info to see what codec is missing, yet I can't seem to find out which one I need. Can someone tell me what I need to do, install or upgrade to get Quicktime to work again?
    Thanks for the help

The Pro upgrade doesn't include any other codecs.
You could have kept both version of QuickTime on your machine.
Try http://perian.org for your AVI files.

  • Missing .PSD codec in Premiere Elements 10?

I started a thread a few days ago about my Instantmovies failing to load all the content necessary for the movie, as indicated they should be by the animated thumbnail preview, but that thread is buried several pages away and nobody has responded to it, so I take it nobody will at this point in time, so I'm updating my experience with this one. I have already spent hours online with Adobe tech support, determined that I have all the most updated drivers, etc. (I'm a new user of Premiere Elements 10 and the problem has always been there, even after reinstalling the program.)
What I have to share that's new is that I went searching within my hard drive for the missing content, assuming that the Instantmovie folders I opened in Premiere Elements show me the full content of these folders, even though some content doesn't seem to be there. I found that there's a lot more content in those folders, if I look at them outside of Premiere Elements. Some of the missing files are .PSDs.
When I tried to load one into my project, for a manual insertion into the timeline of a rendered movie, the program refused and gave me a message saying "This type of file is not supported, or the required codec is not installed."
So my problem is that the codec SHOULD be intalled but isn't? You reckon that's why the Instantmovies are missing content?
I have Photoshop Elements installed. If it's just a matter of copying a codec from Photoshop Elements and pasting it into a codecs folder of Premiere Elements, where's the codec to be found in the Photoshop Elements folder?
I'm excited that I may be close to solving this agonizing problem.

That's indeed odd.  My original installation was with the downloaded trial edition. Since the Instantmovies weren't working well, I uninstalled and reinstalled. Same problem, so I uninstalled and installed again from the disk set I bought. And there's been no improvement. So the install packages are the same (as Adobe tech support told me) and I encountered no problems doing the installations.
As you may recall from your other responses to a couple of other minor issues involving Premiere Elements, I'm using a Toshiba Satellite, i3 Intel processor, 4 gigs of RAM, Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 bit.

  • Missing avi codec for Macromedia Flash 8 Video Encoder

  • Missing HD Codecs

Okay guys, I have a Final Cut Pro (5.0.4) and Quicktime Pro (7.1.3) question…
I was given captured HDV, 16x9, 720, 30fps footage on an external hard drive to edit. Now, when I open the FCP files , the Quicktime files (or FCP movie files), I get the missing codecs prompt. The audio plays fine but the video is just a white screen.
How do I figure out what codec I’m missing? This is the first time I’ve edited HD on this computer…am I missing some sort of HD codec? I was under the impression that FCP and Quicktime handled that with H.264?
    Any ideas?

Most likely that footage was captured using FCP 5.1.2, which was a major upgrade that added a lot of codecs and better HDV 720p support. If that is the case, you'll need to upgrade to FCP 5.1.2 as well to work with it.
    Gettins' cheap...

  • Missing HDV codec??

I'm trying to capture some native HDV footage. I'm using Sony's HDV deck and I've tried all the possible HDV settings, starting obviously with the HDV easy setup, and I always get a "missing codec" message. I tried uninstalling and re-installing my FCP and Quicktime and still.... nothing.
    Any clues??
    Thanks in advance.

I've not used HDV, but you may find some answers here:

  • Quicktime plugin 7.7.1 crashes on Chrome, Safari, and Firefox plus missing in codecs to render on video programs.

    Hi all,
I'm going to assume that this problem is fairly new because there haven't been any solutions to the previous folks who reported a similar situation.
I discovered the problem when I was trying to render a video file to a quicktime .mov format and the quicktime codec was missing. My substitute for that was H264 which was fine but nothing like having quicktime.
Second time this quicktime plugin was having problems was when I goto the apple website to check out trailers and the plugin crashes without even trying to load the video.
I have Mac OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.3 the latest version.
    Thanks in advanced all!

    Solved my problem.
I didn't mention that I had Flip4mac to play WMV files and so I removed the Flip4Mac component/plugin completely and we are now back in the quicktime game!

  • Missing Quicktime Codecs

When i did the last update i seem to have lost some of my Quicktime codecs. How do I get them back? I'm trying to edit HDV in Final Cut Pro but I keep getting an error message saying I do not have the required codec. I used to have it so where has it gone?
Is there somewhere I can re-install them from? And where is the correct location for these as I have two Quicktime folders.
Hard Drive -> Library -> Qt = empty
Hard Drive -> Library -> Quicktime = empty
    User -> Library -> Quicktime = I have the following: AC3MovieImport / LimitedOffsetDH / Perian
Can anybody advise what I'm missing and where to get it from please?

  • Mp4 converted video file is missing audio codec

I have several avi. files on my computer which were converted to mp4. using videora software. A few of these converted mp4. files then had no audio when I tried to play them on my Ipod. I am confused as to how to add the audio codec back into the video files. Do I have to install this to avi. then convert to mp4., or is there some audio codec which will apply directly to mp4. so they do not have to be reconverted? What is the procedure at this point? Thanks for your help in advance.

First thing to do is find out if Videora supports whatever audio codec the AVI uses.
If it supposedly does, write it off as one of the many bugs with videora and get a different transcoder that supports the audio codec.
Outside of having good knowledge of video production and the right tools-there is no easy way to do what you want.

  • Missing F4V codec in format option, fresh install

    Hi!
Just installed and updated AE CS4 trial and set some cuepoint in my video. Followed some tutorials showing f4v export. f4v is supposed to be one of the included 'codecs' available in the output module > format option. I only find FLV and NOT f4v. Where is it??? Do I need to install some additional codec pack or activate it???
    Thanks
    G

Rick is right. F4V (which is a container format, not a codec) uses the H.264 codec. H.264 is an MPEG codec, so this note from "Supported output formats" applies:
"Note: The free trial version of Adobe  After Effects software does not include some features that depend upon software licensed from parties other than Adobe. For example, mocha for After Effects, some effect plug-ins, and some codecs for encoding and decoding MPEG formats are available only with the full version of Adobe After Effects software."

  • Missing AVI Codec in QuickTime

    Hello:
I am trying to convert some old home videos from AVI to MOV so that they can play on AppleTV.  The videos play fine in VLC Media Player on OSX, but I can't get them to open in QuickTime for export to MOV.  I get the well known "A Required Codec is not Available" error.
VLC Media Player's media properties dialog shows the files to be of this format:
    Video Codec: MS MPEG-4 Video v2 (MP42)
    Decoded format: Planar 4:2:0 YUV
    Audio Codec: PCM S16 (araw)
I've looked at the QuickTime supported media types page (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3775), where it seems that the video codec may be supported, if that's the same thing as MPEG-4 (Part 2).  However, the PCM S16 codec doesn't seem to be on that list.
Does anyone know how I can add support for these codecs to QuickTime?
Really my end goal is to convert the AVI to MOV.  Maybe there's a better way to do this.  I tried experimenting with VLC's streaming export features, but I couldn't get that to work.
    Thanks sincerely for any help!
    NBB

Today, there are many methods to convert AVI to MOV. Here list two of the most common ways to help you.
    Method one:
If you don't mind wasting your time and your source file is smaller than 100MB, you can choose Online AVI to MOV Converter. You need to pai at least $7 per month to convert MP4 video larger than 100MB, that's too much.
    Method two:
If you care about the output quality and don't want to waste your time, a professional and easy-to-use AVI to MOV Converter is required.
