Missing healing brush icon

Hi, I am new and ignorant so your patience is appreciated. I am using the trail version of CS5 Extended and earlier I had the "content-aware" icon in the tool bar, now I do not, and it is dimmed in the edit menu. Nor can I find a "healing brush" of any kind. The icon is no longer available on the file that I used it on earlier. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks. Ted

Some tools are nested with other tools. Tha spot healing brush is in the slot just below or beside the paint brush tool
depending on how your toolbox is setup. Just press and hold on the different tools in the toolbox to see the nested tools.
The little black triangle beside most of the tools indicates there are other tools nested in that same slot.
You must be seeing the content aware scale under the edit menu which is different from content aware with the spot healing brush
or Edit>Fill>Content Aware.

Spot healing brush icon same on screen

Can anyone help? When I turn on the spot healing brush, (and the clone stamp tool, and maybe others too), I used to get an indication of the size selected when I moved the tool across the photo on the screen - but now I just get an icon representing the tool, with no indication of the size selected - it's driving me mad. I'm sure there's something easily corrected here....but what??

It might be a preference that you checked: go to Photoshop>Preferences>Cursors, and select another setting than Standard in Painting cursors , for instance Normal or Full Size brush tip.

Missing healing brush

I know I have used this tool before, but when I recently opened Photoshop CS4, it wasn't there. How do I get it back?

I know it should be there, but none of them are there. The whole thing is missing.

Where is the spot healing brush?

Hello Everyone,
I've been a Lightroom user for a couple of years now but very new to photoshop. Still figuring out all the cool stuff this program has to offer. I want to use the spot healing brush to touch up a few images but I'm not able to locate it in Photoshop CS5. I've looked in what I thought were the most logical places, looked thorugh the documentation and did some searching online but I haven't yet found the icon/function I'm looking for. I do see the healing brush and I have been able to use the content-aware fill function successfully
The format of the working image (raw, jpeg) seems to make no difference. I read online that the spot healing brush only works with jpeg images. Is this true? I was able to use content aware fill on a raw image.
Here's a screenshot showing all the tools and the various tool presets. I'm running CS5 version 12.0.4 x64 on Windows 7. Would appreciate it if someone can let me know what I'm missing here?

The spot healing brush is located in the same tool slot as the healing brush, just
click and hold on the healing brush icon in the tool box to see the hidden tools.
As far as i know the spot healing brush works on most other images besides jpegs, so
no it's not true that the spot healing brush only works on jpegs.

Spot Healing Brush

It seems that I must have clicked on something because my Spot Healing Brush does not work like it did before! When I click on it, I have to click on an area first and cannot change the size of the brush! At the top it says
BRUSH - MODE - SOURCE: SAMPLED AND PATTERN - ALIGNED AND SAMPLE ALL LAYERS.
I want it back to what it originally was - what do I have to do? I work on photos and use this to touch up cracked photos, etc.

Sounds like you have the Healing Brush Tool selected instead of the Spot Healing Brush Tool.
Both tools are grouped in the same slot in the toolbox
Press and hold on the healing brush icon in the toolbox to reveal the flyout menu.
You can also press Shift+J to cycle between the two tools.

Healing Brush Has Stopped Working

My PSE10 Healing Brush is now acting like my cloning tool. I was using the cloning tool while editing a photo. The next photo I went to use the healing brush and received an error notice that I usually associate with the cloning tool. The error reads "alt-click to define a source point to be used to repair the image". I have done a restart as well as checked for any available updates. All to no avail. Any insight will be appreciated.

i have Photoshop cc and watched a tutorial which uses the spot healing brush - the icon looks like an x made of arrows, you hover and it gives you choices. mine does not have the content aware move tool icon, only the brush. is there a way to turn it on?@

Can you please do a screen grab showing what choices you DO have?
If you truly don't have all the tools that are normally available in the position in the Tools panel, then you likely need to do a full removal and reinstallation. But please don't do this before showing what you see. It may be we can spot something else wrong.

Many of the tools have multiple choices - simply right-click on an icon or for the brush tool keep pressing the letter B to tab through the choices.

Where is the Healing Brush tool?

Has the Healing Brush tool been discontinued in CC2014?

Excellent - a long time coming

Photoshop CS5 Spot Healing Brush only blurs

Here's a before and after shot. I recently upgraded from CS3 and the spot healing brush always worked great.
Now when I use it, whether or not I use content aware fill, it leaves a blurred residue of what I was trying to remove.
As an aside, the Content Aware Fill leaves a similar residue, enough to make it effectively unusable.
I have included a sample photo of the spot healing brush problem. Left side is before and right side is after.
I just wanted to get rid of the electrical wall socket. You can see that it's not working. I am running windows 8 in a 64-bit environtment and running the 64-bit version of Photoshop CS5.5
Any assitance anyone is able to afford me is greatly appreciated.

In my opinion, there's nothing wrong with your choice of Spot Healing Brush for this image. I cropped your screenshot to the "BEFORE" image, removed the "BEFORE" type (with the SHB) and scaled to 600% to match your original document.
A dab of a 0% hardness 500 pixel Spot Healing Brush in Ps CS5.1 on OS X 10.6.8 worked perfectly. However, I would have made a vertical stroke with the brush at about 80% hardness and about 200 pixels, which also works for me.
Maybe your SHB is working in "Create Texture" mode despite specifying "Proximity Match" in Options bar. Try resetting the SHB by right-clicking its icon at left of Options bar and picking "Reset Tool" from the menu that appears.

PS CS6 spot healing brush stopped working. followed online instructions but it did not work

I followed online instructions for resetting preferences and tools, but the spot healing brush no longer works. Help!

What operating system are you using? Did Preferences definitely reset? Did you see this dialog box
Do you definitely have the Spot healing brush selected? (top of the fly out list)
What is the brush mode in the Options bar? If anything but Normal, change it back to Normal.
Are you able to select the tool and it does not work, or can't even select it (greyed out)?
If you are able to select the tool, do you see the little no-go icon when trying to use it? (Circle with diagonal bar)
Any information that remotely useful will go a long way to helping us find an answer.

Spot/Healing Brush Tool?

I have used the Spot/Healing Brush in Lgtrm3 and now have Lgtrm 5; however, my Spot/Healing Brush in 5 does not work. I will click on the healing brush then adjust my brush size then click on the spot, then click "done". Nothing happens. Am I missing a step or is it the program?

Thanks for the help. I didn't realize that there was an opacity slifer for theSpot Brush. I see that if I increase the feathering there are times when it seems to leave a ghost. Any ideas? Also, When removing spots why would you use a feather edge as opposed to a hard one and how much feathering should a person use? I realize that these questions may require more time than you have but any comment or suggestion would be appreciated.

Spot healing brush issues in photoshop elements 11

I am new to photoshop elements 11. I am trying to use the spot healing brush. I select "content aware,' "sample all layers," and a brush, but I only get the cross hairs of the cursor, and not the black circle. My cursor preferences are currently at the default. I get a black line when I press the mouse key, but nothing changes in the photo. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

I found that I had some problematic brush settings. I've developed this checklist for when I have similar issues:
o Try changing the px on the brush slider in thespot healing tool
o Go to the BRUSH tool (B), change opacity asneeded (probably 100%), go to the brush settings drop down and change thehardness (again probably to 100%)
o Check that CAPS LOCK is NOT on
o Go to the center icon (lower right by the ?),drop down, then select "reset all Tools," then restart the photoeditor
o Then try to reset the editor preferences: Quitthe editor, restart it from the welcome screen while holding downctrlshiftalt, then say "yes" to delete the settings file
You don't have to do all of these things. They are just things to check when you have brush problems. So now I'm working OK. I hope that this works for you.
