Missing icons on dock after re-load

I am missing my dictonary and dashboard icons after I reloaded the system from my time capsule. Neither of the icons show up in my applications folder. Any ideas?

that's quite strange. enter Time Machine and browse your backups of the Applications folder. are they present in any backups? if not you'll need to reinstall them from the snow leopard install DVD using Pacifist
http://www.charlessoft.com/
when done with that reinstall 10.6.2 combo update to bring both apps to their current versions.
and once you have them in /Applications just drag them to the dock from there.

  • Two Word and Excel icons in Dock after archive and install

    Since reinstalling my OS I get two Word and Excel icons in my dock. How can I keep these from being created each time I restart?

    Thanks BD, that worked. I thought I had tried that already, but I think I deleted the original icons at first, rather than the doubles. Figured out which was which, deleted them, restarted, and everything looks great. Thanks!

  • Widget Icon missing fro Dock after upgrade to 10.6

    After upgrading to Snow Leopard, I noticed my Widget icon went missing from the dock.
    I have also noticed that I cannot put additional application icons in the dock. They will stay there for a few seconds and then disappear. Anybody have any suggestions on what to do ??

    This happened to me as well ... eventually. It was working for some time then poof! No matter how many re-installs from different download locations the dock still won't show up. The interesting thing is that after locating where the widgets itself were they would run after all ... just that the dock which I am so used to isn't there anymore. Perhaps thats a good thing and does make the desktop feel like Vista/Windows7 but I would rather have the option to turn the dock on/off at my convenience and keep everything in line.

    My Safari Icon ( Button) is missing on my iMac after I downloaded a update. How can I get the icon  (Button Safari) back on my desktop and connecting again to the Internet ?...
    Thanks for the help

    Often when people think they've deleted an application, what's really happened is that they deleted its icon from the Dock. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Applications
    from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-A to open the Applications folder. If the application is in that folder, drag it to the Dock (not to the Desktop or anywhere else.) The other Dock icons will move out of the way to make a place for it.

  • Safari icon in Dock is missing!

    The icon of Safari in my dock is missing, I think it happened after it crashed (my dock auto-hides, so I'm not 100%)
    I've tried re-starting, all that...
    How do I get it back without 'reseting' Safari (if that even works)... or at least reseting as few of the checkboxes as possible?
    By the way, Safari has been very incompatible with the internet since the update to Safari 5... Flash plugin crashes all the time - YouTube; doesn't work well with Facebook - videos, posting links, etc.; and various other bugs.
    (I have the newest versions of everything - MBP, Safari, etc.)

    Hello U:
    Close Safari (it is open with the missing icon in your post). If the blank icon is there, drag it off the dock and then drag the Safari icon from applications to the dock.
    To try to address the other problems, try trashing a preference file (com.apple.safari.plist) and restarting.
    If the crashing continues, post the crash report. I do not read them well, but some people here can use the report to troubleshoot.

  • Some files in "DOCUMENTS" icon in dock won't open. Get msg saying You need a newer version of Pages to open this document." Have Pages 4.1 installed.  Same files will open ok from Finder, Pages App. Recently sync'd with ipad2 (Pages) after iOS5 installed.

    Some files in "DOCUMENTS" icon in dock won't open. Get msg saying "You need a newer version of Pages to open this document." Already have Pages 4.1 installed.  Same files will open ok from Finder/Pages App./selected file. Prob not noted until recently after sync'd with ipad2 (Pages) when I installed iOS5. Anyone-- please?!

    You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
    Pages 5.2 is in your Applications folder.
    Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
    You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
    Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
    Pages 5.2 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
    Older versions of Pages 5 can not open files from later versions of Pages 5.
    Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
    Anything that is saved to iCloud and opened in a newer version of Pages is also converted to Pages 5 files.
    All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
    Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
    Apple has removed almost 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

  • My imac was running snow leopard and was upgraded to Mt. Lion. My Microsoft Office for Mac now will not open.  SO since my Office was 2004, I just purchased Office for Mac 2011.  Do I delete the icons before loading Office 2011 OR after I load 2011?

    Upgraded my Imac to Mt. Lion and now the Microsoft Office icons will not open WORD, EXCEL, POWERPOINT, or ENTOURAGE.  I just pruchased on Ebay
    OFFICE 2011 since my old version was 2004.  DO I REMOVE THE OLD ICONS BEFORE LOADING OFFICE 2011 RO AFTER I LOAD IT???
    THANKS, DR PEPPERMINT

    Office 2011 will install in a separate folder. But do not install Office 2011 until you remove Office 2004. It comes with its own uninstalled located in the MS Office folder. Only use the uninstaller to get rid of it. Then install Office 2011.
    Office 2004 and Other Applications Don't Work in Lion/Mountain Lion
    If you have Office 2004 which is a PPC-only suite, it will not work in Lion/Mountain Lion. You need to upgrade to Office 2011 - Mactopia - or you can try the freeware suite, Libre Office, that is functionally similar to Office 2007 for Windows except it works on Lion/Mountain Lion.
    You may want to consider as well:
    These two suites are similar to Libre Office but not as current or as well-supported:
    NeoOffice
    Open Office
    And, then there is Apple's iWork suite:
    Pages - word processing and layout
    Keynote - presentation
    Numbers - spreadsheet
    Each can open and save Office compatible files. They may be purchased separately via the Mac App Store for $19.99 each.
    As for other software, any PPC-based software will not run in Lion or Mountain Lion because Rosetta is no longer part of OS X. You will need to upgrade to Intel versions of the software.
    (Access to the Mac App Store requires Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or higher and an Apple ID.)

    Thanks Paul; but, taking your suggestion didn't solve the problem.  As mail is part of the OS, the updates don't have the capacity to reinstall applications; so, I had to reinstall the OS.  I now have my mail back (although it didn't appear on the dock--I had to go to applications and activate it and then put it back in the dock.  Thanks again for trying.

  • How to replicate missing ddl / dml to target after intial loading

    Hi GG Experts,
    I m new to GG, my test setup is like Oracle->Oracle (same version, 10.2.0.4) Replication. I did initial loading between source & target. There were some problem with my REPLICAT Process was getting abended, hence when i fired any dml/ddl are not transferred to target. Then, I put HANDLECOLLISIONS, APPLYNOOPUPDATES in REPLICAT Process, after which my replication got started but from that moment.
    Now my question, how should I replicate the missing ddl/dml to target db which I fired on source db after initial loading and before my REPLICAT process successfully started.
    is there any special consideration do I need to take for ddl replication.
    Your help would be highly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Manish

    Hi,
    As both the source and target tables are out of sync currently, I would suggest you to re-synchronize the target using below procedure and restart the
    online replication back again.
    The export could be performed directly on the production system by using the FLASHBACK_SCN option. Then the FLASHBACK_SCN used for the export would then be the CSN value used for the Replicat. Note that you have to take the entire export using the same value for FLASHBACK_SCN for your entire export, even if you use multiple export files (e.g. you run multiple sessions in parallel, or in the case of data pump export, you use Oracle's parallelism).
    Below are sample steps that you could use to instantiate an Oracle target system:
    a.Switch the database to archivelog mode:
    SQL> shutdown immediate
    SQL> startup mount
    SQL> alter database archivelog;
    SQL> alter database open;
    b. Enable minimal supplemental logging:
    SQL> alter database add supplemental log data;
    c. Prepare the database to support ddl replication
    --Turn off recyclebin for the database . . .
    SQL> alter system set recyclebin=off scope=both;
    d.Create schema for ddl support replication & create a OGG user and provide necesaary user privileges
    GGSCI> edit params ./GLOBAL
    GGSCHEMA ogg
    e.Run scripts for creating all necessary objects for support ddl replication:
    SQL> @$ogg/marker_setup.sql
    SQL> @$ogg/ddl_setup.sql
    SQL> @$ogg/role_setup.sql
    SQL> grant GGS_GGSUSER_ROLE to ogg;
    SQL> @$ogg/ddl_enable.sql
    GGSCI> dblogin userid ogg password ogg@321!
    GGSCI> add trandata schema1.*
    f. Create the extract group on the source side:
    GGSCI>ADD EXTRACT EXT1, TRANLOG, BEGIN NOW, THREADS 2
    GGSCI>ADD EXTTRAIL ./dirdat/P1, EXTRACT EXT1, MEGABYTES 100
    GGSCI> edit params EXT1
    EXTRACT EXT1
    SETENV (ORACLE_HOME = "/oracle/orabin/product/10.2.4")
    SETENV (ORACLE_SID = "prd1")
    SETENV (NLS_LANG = "AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8ISO8859P1")
    USERID ogg@prd1, PASSWORD ogg@321!
    TRANLOGOPTIONS ASMUSER sys@+ASM1, ASMPASSWORD asm321
    RMTHOST dr, MGRPORT 7810
    RMTTRAIL ./dirdat/P1
    DISCARDFILE ./dirrpt/EXT1.DSC, PURGE, MEGABYTES 100
    DDL INCLUDE MAPPED OBJNAME "schema1.*"
    DDLOPTIONS ADDTRANDATA RETRYOP RETRYDELAY 60 MAXRETRIES 10, REPORT
    TABLE schema1.*;
    g.Create replicat group on target:
    GGSCI> dblogin userid ogg password ogg@321!
    GGSCI> add checkpointtable ogg.checkpoint
    GGSCI>ADD REPLICAT REP1, RMTTRAIL ./dirdat/P1, checkpointtable ogg.checkpoint
    GGSCI> edit params REP1
    REPLICAT REP1
    SETENV (ORACLE_HOME = “/oracle/orabin/product/10.2.4”)
    SETENV (ORACLE_SID = “dr”)
    SETENV (NLS_LANG = “AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8ISO8859P1”)
    ASSUMETARGETDEFS
    USERID ogg@DR, PASSWORD ogg@321!
    DISCARDFILE ./dirrpt/REP1.DSC, append, megabytes 100
    DDL INCLUDE MAPPED OBJNAME "schema1.*"
    MAP schema1.*, TARGET schema1.*;
    h.Create a database directory:
    SQLPLUS> create directory dumpdir as '<some directory>' ;
    i.Get the current SCN on the source database:
    SQLPLUS> select current_scn from v$database ;
    28318029
    j. Run the export using the flashback SCN you obtained in the previous step. The following example shows running the expdp utility at a Degree Of Parallelism (DOP) of 4. If you have sufficient system resources (CPU,memory and IO) then running at a higher DOP will decrease the amount of time it takes to take the export (up to 4x for a DOP of 4). Note that expdp uses Oracle Database parallel execution settings (e.g.parallel_max_servers) which have to be set appropriately in order to take advantage of parallelism. Other processes running in parallel may be competing for those resources. See the Oracle Documentation for more details.
    expdp directory=dumpdir full=y parallel=4 dumpfile=ora102_%u.dmp flashback_scn=28318029
    Username: sys as sysdba
    Password:
    Note: The export log needs to be checked for any errors.
    h.Start an import using impdp to the target database when step 7 is complete.
    i. GGSCI> start replicat <rename>, aftercsn <value returned from earlier step>
    By following above procedure the resynchronisation of source and target can be done and the online change synchronuzation can be started without any data integrity issues. Hope this information helps.
    Thanks & Regards

  • My Dock icons looks garbled after upgrading to OS X Maverick.

    My Dock icons looks garbled after upgrading to OS X Maverick.Not all but most of them look like scattered dots instead of the icons, tried restarting multiple times still no use.
    I installed OS X Maverick last week and for a week it looked fine. I have restarted the OS for copule of times after upgrade. Now the Icons in the dock seem to be garbled.

    The dock preferences may be corrupted ...
    Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
    Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist
    Click Go then move the com.apple.finder.plist file to the Trash

  • [Xfce] Missing icons after upgrade

    Hello,
    I'm experiencing problem with missing icons from xfce: clipboard manager, default web browser icon, folder icon, disc icon, local area network icon, zoom icons etc. I can't see them while using Oxygen style (which I want to use) but they appear in GNOME or HighContrast icon themes. I'm changing icon themes via Xfce's settings manager. I have 2 Oxygen positions there but it always was like that. In some applications the icons are just missing, but in some they appear as blank sheets of paper with red crossed circle.
    It worked before the update:

    [2013-10-11 22:42] [PACMAN] Running 'pacman -U /tmp/gtk-update-icon-cache-2.24.20-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz'
    [2013-10-11 22:42] [PACMAN] downgraded gtk-update-icon-cache (2.24.22-1 -> 2.24.20-1)
    [2013-10-11 22:43] [PACMAN] Running 'pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/gnome-themes-standard-3.8.4-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz'
    [2013-10-11 22:43] [PACMAN] downgraded gnome-themes-standard (3.10.0-1 -> 3.8.4-1)
    Then I installed
    [2013-10-11 22:46] [PACMAN] Running 'pacman -S gnome-icon-theme gnome-icon-theme-extras gnome-icon-theme-symbolic'
    Then I rebooted. Then I tried to change again icon themes within xfce's settings manager.
    None of this helped.

    I'm running standalone Openbox and am also recently missing some icons. I haven't tried all the suggested solutions yet, but downgrading to gtk2-2.24.20-1 brought back most of the icons. More are missing with 2.24.21-2 and 2.24.22-1.
    I wonder if this should be in Pacman & Package Upgrade Issues since it happens when upgrading and if there is enough information for a bug report.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

  • Deleted files in Dock after AirDrop

    After I delete files from 'Download' folder in Finder I can see icons of deleted files in 'Download' in Dock. I have to delete 'Download' from Dock, add a new one to Dock and after it it will be without files. This problem appears after using Airdrop.

    Were any of those files missing in the dock of the second account ones that you deleted from your account? For example, there is only one copy of Safari on this computer. If I delete it from my account as administrator it will disappear from all accounts.
