Missing ID3 tags in acc files

Hi
If I import music to aac files, I'm missing the the ID3 tags in the music file (in file property). It works with MP3 files.
Why there are no ID3 tags in the aac files?
Any solutions to have the ID3 in aac as well?
Thanks!
(iTunes Ver. 7.5)

These are songs you imported from a CD?
When you insert the CD, does the info show up on the CD in iTunes?

  • Missing ID3 Tags on Song Files

    I have a obscure problem with iTunes that has me very frustrated. I selected my entire music library, then right click -> get info -> check boxes for artist, genre, album, etc and then hit okay. I thought this would look for missing tag information in songs and fill in the blanks, but instead it erased the tag information for all the songs in my library.
    Luckily, my hard drive was spared. When I open up the C: drive and look at my music folder, nothing has changed. All of the mp3 files are still tagged with the correct information. The only problem is that when I try to access songs from iTunes they appear to have no such tag information.
    I have tried fixing this by deleting everything from iTunes and then adding it all back, but this didn't help. Reinstalling iTunes and a full Windows system restore didn't help either.
    The result of this is that I'm afraid to sync my iPod with my computer until this is all resolved. Any insight into the problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Ooops. You just created a lot of work by erasing the tag info.
    I think there are some scripts out there that can fill in ID3 tags based on file names.
    This page is from an apple discussions regular poster:
    http://samsoft.org.uk/iTunes/scripts.asp
    You could try the "TagFromFilename" script.
    For future, itunes does not have the ability to update tag info like Windows Media Player does. I suppose you could see what WMP will do, before trying that script.
    Since I haven't used either one to do this, I can't say how well either works.

  • Missing ID3 Tags

    Is there an open-source app or one that supports PPC Macs that helps you fix missing ID3 tag data? ITunes 7 is amazing with the new search engine + cool UI to quickly pick the album of your choice.... HOWEVER, I have no use for this since some dork totally cleaned out my ID3 tags. I was able to use a software to convert filenames into ID3 tags that supply the Artist and Song title only. I'm in desperation to find a way to retrieve album information so I could use this new iTunes 7 feature. Is there another way than manually encoding album data on EVERY FILE? There's gotta be an app somewhere that picks artist and song data and hook up to a server database that checks for possible matches. I saw this article on MusicBrainz Tagger.... but I don't see support for Mac. Just Linux and Windows.

    Hmmm... took a look and downloaded one of Doug's Scripts... It's the CDDB Safari Kit composed of two scripts.... the problem is: In order to get album info. you need to have all MP3s of the album... you need to sort this in the right order before the script will work well for you. What I'm hoping to see is that if I have just one MP3 track, I should be able to get the missing/wrong tag infos I need by just supplying the artist and song title to the script. I see a lot of Windows tools for this... I wonder if there's one for the Mac.

  • Missing ID3 Tags on MP3 CD burned with iTunes

    I have a Sony CD Player in my car. This Player supports mp3 CD's. To Burn such CD's with iTunes is not the Problem.
    iTunes seems not to set the ID3-Tag in it's Libary. Is it possible to set the iTunes-Libary-Informations (as they are displayed on my Screen) as ID3 Tags to the Files ? Are there Risks within ?

  • How do you force itunes comments to ID3 tags in MP3 files?

    I have comments all throughout itunes. The mp3 files do not have those comments in the ID3 info.
    How do you force itunes comments to write out to ID3 tags in MP3 files?
    The folder and files all have write permission.

    Yeah, don't do that, you probably also degrade the sound quality... If you've confirmed it is something odd with multiple tags try this.
    Select a group of mp3 files (You might want to start with a smart playlist so you don't mess with any other format)
    Right-click and use Convert ID3 Tags > None (may need to repeat this step if multiple tags)
    Then right-click and use Convert ID3 Tags > v2.3 (v2.4 support still patchy from various accounts)
    Downside is that it will lose any embedded artwork, but it should preserve all other meta-data, both tag-based and stored within the library itself.
    In fact, if you use my CreateFolderArt script before and after updating the tags it should archive any artwork as a local Folder.jpg image for each album and then reinsert that image on the subsequent run... Check it out on a single album first. If it doesn't work as expected let me know and I'll tweak the script to achieve this end.

  • Missing ID3 tags - Volume correction

    Hi
    Adobe Soundbooth CS5
    I have a lot of mp3 files when ID3 tag contains different titles - Artist names - Album names.
    If I use "Tasks" - "Volume Correction" to match all volume's.
    After I have Saving all the MP3 files , the ID3 tags i missing  both song titles - Artist names - Album names of all mp3 - why?

    These are songs you imported from a CD?
    When you insert the CD, does the info show up on the CD in iTunes?

  • Cant change ID3 tags [on certain files]

    Some files I have, after making changes to their tags in iTunes, revert to their original tag info upon playing. Very annoying [especially when/if file contains faulty info].
    I have gone as far as changing the file info in the Finder, with no success. In fact, I can picture scenarios where this would result in a 'missing' file in iTunes. Even if this method were to work, I would only classify it as a workaround - not a soultion, by any means.
    All apologies if this issue has been addressed already. I am running iTunes 4.9, but the problem was first noticed under 4.7 [i believe].
    Thanks in advance,
    -af-

    I had the same problem with some mp3 files that I downloaded. Couldn't change the tag names, and couldn't add album artwork.
    From another post on a seperate topic in relation to the ID3 tags, I think I found an answer that worked for me.
    Select the songs in iTunes, go to Advanced and then "Convert ID3 Tags..."
    Then put a check in the ID3 tag version and make sure that the version is "none". Click OK to change the ID3 tags.
    This clears the ID3 version number, but keeps the data. Then go back through the same process but change the ID3 tag version to the original ID3 tag version (2.2, 2,3, etc).
    As I said, this worked for me, so I hope this works for you.

  • ID3 tags in MP3 files

    Hello everybody!
    How can I read the ID3 tags from an MP3 file? Not just the title, artist and album. All of that. I know the last 128 bytes are reserved for ID3 tags in version 1. But in version 2 (and over) have a lot of other tags, like the album picture (APIC), year (TYER). So how can I do that?
    By Gericop
    P.S.: I don't want to use a 3rd party package...
    Edited by: Gericop on Feb 2, 2008 7:17 PM

    It's not an XML format. If you read this last 128 bytes, you can see title, album and some more infos, but you have to parse it yourself. That isn't hard. But I don't know, how can I determine the v2 tags (and their size).

  • The Case of Missing ID3 Tags... and non-Apple devices, like the Sonos

    Ever since the debut of iTunes 6, devices other than my Mac and my iPod have been unable to find the ID3 tags associated with .mp3 files. If I rip a CD in iTunes 6 or 7, artist/album/track data (and album artwork) display properly in iTunes and on my iPod; but when I update my Sonos music library, for example, all it is able to see is the file name. So, for example, if I rip Jimi Hendrix's "Are You Experienced," the track "Purple Haze" shows up in iTunes correctly associated with "Hendrix" and "...Experienced." On the Sonos system, however, all it sees is the track "Purple Haze.mp3." No artist. No album. Ditto for placing one of these .mp3 files on a non-Apple mp3 player: track name only shows up. Bizarrely, if I rip CDs on an older PPC G4 running iTunes 4.0, and then import those files into either iTunes 6 or 7, the ID3 tags remain married to the files. Anyone have a solution to this vexing problem?
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   2 Gigs SDRAM
    Core Duo iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   2 Gigs SDRAM

    In the newer versions of itunes 6+7 (don't know about 5) iTunes by default will rename the file on the HD to match the info in the "Name" column of iTunes - this is true if you have the "Keep" option selected in iTunes prefs>Advanced>General.
    With iTunes 4 this was not true. I would use one of Dougs scripts to rename all my files on the HD to be Artist-Song Name. You can still do this in iTunes 6+7 if you turn off the "Keep" option or you don't edit any info in the id3 tag once you have run the script.
    I know nothing of the Sonos and other stuff - I can only think that is reading only the file sname and not the id3 tag info. If it doesn't have the capability of reading and displaying the id3 tag info then I think you are out of luck. iTunes is reading the id3 tag info.

  • Setting MP3 ID3 tag renders mp3 file useless

    Hi guys,
    I'm using the Java MP3 class Library from www.id3.org and am trying to set the artist and title of my mp3s.
    If anyone has used this library, do you know how I might set this information?
    I've tried using the TagContent object supplied by getArtist() and getTitle(), furthermore I have tried creating a new TagContent and applying the tag to the file, but it just throws exceptions when I next try to read this information from the file.
    e.g I have tried this:
    MP3File f = new MP3File(new File("D:/"),"1999_Prince.mp3");
    TagContent tc = f.getArtist();
    tc.setContent("PRINCE");
    f.setArtist(tc);
    f.update();and also this:
    MP3File f = new MP3File(new File("D:/"),"1999_Prince.mp3");
    TagContent tc = new TagContent();
    tc.setContent("PRINCE");
    f.setArtist(tc);
    f.update();This example only changes the artist to capital letters (I'm just experimenting with the code), but it means when I come to read the file again, I can't read the artist.
    Thanks in advance for any ideas,
    Richard

    Hi,
    I just tried it out too, I was lookin for some java mp3 classes and these look great. I used your code to rename a couple of files as a test and it worked. Onlt difference was I used the single string constructor rather than the (file, String) one. I think that it might be interpreting your D:\ as being the name of the file and it cant find it. I'd try the String,String constructor instead eg ("D:\","file name"). These classes look really interesting. I might create a decent java mp3 editor with um at some stage if I get time!

  • How to edit ID3 tag of mp3 file?

    Id3INFO but I know it's read-only. How can I change the ID3Tag an mp3? Any tutorial or tips?

    to edit ID3 info in an AIR application? I cannot be of help.
    However, there are many free apps available for mp3 editing- one that I use is Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/).

  • ITunes "grouping" tag - ID3 tags and file rewriting

    From Wikipedia's entry about ID3 tags:
    "ID3v2.2 and 2.3 require that the tag data precede the file. Whilst for streaming data this is absolutely required, for static data it means that the entire audio file must be updated to insert data at the front of the file. For initial tagging this incurs a large penalty as every file must be re-written."
    So what I'm wondering, essentially, is whether the "grouping" tag in iTunes is a part of the ID3 tag information, which would mean that altering this tag necessitates re-writing the entire file. I don't like the idea of this, because I'd be paranoid/anal about the possibility of introducing errors in the process. However, I'd love to use the "grouping" tag for creating smart playlists. So does anyone have any more information about this tag? Thanks.

    iTunes uses the TPE2 frame tag for grouping. This is also known as the 'Band/Orchestra/Accompaniment' frame which is included in the list you linked to. This isn't a guess - I've been playing about with dnuos and querying id3 tags in mp3 files. I can confirm it is a id3v2 frame.
    As to having to re-write the entire file. Yes this is likely but the id3v2 standard also covers padding which can be used to avoid a complete re-write in these situations. Whether or not this happens in the case of iTunes I couldn't tell you.
    As far as worring about quality or reliability when performing this... If a player (in this case iTunes) can't even write some tags you probably need to be worrying about using it full stop. Damage could also happen if the storage device itself is dying but again you don't want to be using it full stop.

  • Changing id3 tags from iTunes to original file

    Hi! I have been changing a lot of id3 tags to the files through iTunes but it doesn't change it for the original file. Is there anyway to make that work? Thanks!

    If by original you mean another copy of the file left outside the iTunes media folder while iTunes is working with a copy made during import then iTunes has no further interest in the originals.
    If you mean that changes made to metadata in iTunes don't appear to be reflected when the same file is viewed in Windows Explorer or if the file is imported into a new library then the most likely cause of this is multiple embedded tags. iTunes works best when there is a single id3v2.3 tag. Select a couple of test files, right-click and use Convert ID3 Tags > None, repeat two or three times, then Convert ID3 Tags > ID3v2.3. Now see if updates are properly carried through. You'll have to reapply any embedded artwork. If it works repeat with other problem files.
    For the future backup your library regularly with this User Tip.

  • ID3 tags and Nee

    Sorry if this has been asked before or is really obvious :P
    I have a Zen Neeon and the currently playing song appears on the screen as only a title. There is no artist. All my songs are tagged with ID3 v and 2. The only way I can get the player to scroll Artist - Title is by removing all ID3 tags and having the filename be Artist - Title.mp3 (it does not display the .mp3 extension when playing a track). Is this the way it works? I was under the impression from the FAQs and a little snooping that Zens could read ID3 tags? Obviously they can because it gets the track title information out fine, but not the artist. Is there a simple option I'm missing?
    Edit: .0 firmware and using Winamp to edit my ID3 tags, put the songs on the player by drag and drop in ExplorerMessage Edited by SR on 08-3-2006 03:53 PM

    Hey, first of all, thanks for your help, but I'm still in problems.
    I have noticed that itunes imports the music files before I alter the ID3 tags (from backup files). However, as soon as I try to add the same file to my itunes library after I have edited the ID3 file (via windows itself), itunes does not add the file to its library anymore. This is happening to a considerable amount of my music. When I try to play the same files in windows mediaplayer, they play without a problem, so I guess the problem is with itunes.
    Somebody can please help me out, because I like to be in control of my music, and not itunes,
    adios Gregorius

  • ITunes re-writing id3 tags with deleted / edited information

    Help I think I'm going insane. I keep my iTunes music folder on a LaCie 160 gig Rugged drive. iTunes keeps on re-writing id3 tags on certain files with information I have previously deleted or changed. This info auto fills as soon as I play the file again. I'm not using any other application to change tags.
    Also if I reset the music library location and then put it back to the external drive it finds loads of new files without me adding.
    Any idea what is going on here? Totally confused. Ghost in the system! Is it cofusing 2 databases? There's only 1 iTunes library file in the folder.

    There is a setting in iTunes.
    'Automatically download missing album artwork'. In the past that interfered with anything not being complete. Is it switched on?
    The second reason is when you get MP3 files from a PC and the details were added through XP itself, updating it in Winamp would give all kinds of problems, perhaps a similar thing is happening here.
    There is no real solution. The only solution that worked in my past was to clean out the details and enter them again, but NOT through the file manager of XP.
