  • Missing Images in WebHelp (RH6)

I have built a WebHelp guide of 130 topics. When I first
start to view it, all is well. I stepped through several topics in
the Browse sequence, all OK. I used the Search box and found a few
topics. Selected OK. Then select the Index tab, then Contents tab,
and then the problems start. ALL the larger images fail to appear.
The white space is there on the screen, but no pics, and these are
a mix of GIFs, animated GIFs and PNGs. Most of the smaller images
(say, smaller than about 150 x 250 px) appear OK.
(I am viewing these in IE7, running under Windows XP with all
latest updates; fast Pentium 4 + 1.5Gb RAM, hot 256Mb graphics
    card).
If I right-click on a missing image, and select Properties,
it shows the filename, but the file size reports "-1bytes".
On one occasion, I noted that the progress bar at the bottom
of the IE7 screen was stuck trying to load images, and some of the
    skin graphics ewre missing too.
If I close the WebHelp and load it again, everything works
OK. Until I repeat this sequence.
Has anybody got any ideas? This problem happened on another
computer, so it's not just this one.
    H-E-E-E-E-LP!!

    Hi Leon and Harvey,
Thank you for your observations and thoughts.
    1. Copying images: Investigation. Open a topic in RH and
click on an image in the WYSIWYG tab. Now switch to TrueCode view.
You can see highlighted the exact code that it will copy. Example:
    <img src="actions1.gif"
    x-maintain-ratio=TRUE
    style="border: none;
    width: 319px;
    height: 204px;
    float: none;
    border-style: none;
    border-style: none;"
    width=319
    height=204
    border=0>
--- (The code should be indented as in TrueCode view, but
this forum page does not support tabs or multiple spaces).
So, clicking on an image in WYSIWYG correctly picks up the
filename reference, aspect ratio, exact size, borders etc.
    - Copy and paste this text to NotePad, so you can refer back
    to it in a moment.
    - Now return to WYSIWYG, click on the image and use Ctrl_C
    copy.
    - Switch to another topic and Ctrl_V paste the image
    somewhere convenient.
    - Click on the image, and look at the TrueCode page.
The code has copied across exactly as on the original topic -
compare with the code in NotePad.
Now save the topic (you can delete the image later).
Next, select the Project tab, bottom left. Look in the Images
folder and find the image you just copied. Double-click to open the
Image Properties, and select the "Used In" tab. You can see the
image correctly registered in the two topics.
Conclusion: Copying and pasting images takes the exact code
from one topic and pastes it into another; so I do not understand
why there should be a problem; these are only HTML web pages, after
all - unless there's a bug in the RH background database
    interfacing?
    2. Resizing images: Although it is possible to drag the
corner of an image to resize it, I teach people not to do this, as
the image quality suffers badly, and it renders the image
unreadable sometimes. I resize in Paint Shop Pro if I must; but
prefer to take a cropped area of a real-scale screenshot if I can.
The RH Help Guide claims that RH supports PNG; and why not?
It's just an HTML web page. Something is deeply wrong somewhere if
this is happening... The mystery remains: is it just a PNG
    problem?

  • Attempt to generate WebHelp (Primary Layout) after updates hangs and then shows "Not Responding"

Hello!  I am attempting to generate after making a number of updates to topics in a large project using RoboHelp 7.  RoboHelp 7 was recently installed on my machine by an IT staff person. It has been several years since I worked with this project in RoboHelp and at that time we used RoboHelp 5.  I have attempted to generate WebHelp but the application hangs and shows "Not Responding" about half-way through Updating files.  When I look at the folder (test folder on my computer's Desktop) to which I try to generate, about 2/3 of the topics and subtopics actually show in the folder even though the generate process failed. I have tried to work with IT but no one there knows RoboHelp. I cannot identify (don't know how exactly) where the problem is and how to remedy. Can someone please offer some guidance?  I'm very rusty with RoboHelp's processes...it seems as though something has gone missing but I don't know what to look for and where to start looking!  A co-worker has also recently had RoboHelp 7 installed on his computer (per IT remote install) and has helped update topics other than those I've updated in the project. He also encounters this problem when he tries to generate the project on his workstation.

Thank you, Peter!  The project is a large policy manual which resides on a shared network drive but we place a copy of the project's "working" folder on our computer desktops to allow updates and maintenance.  When we generate the project after making updates, the compiled project loads into a separate subfolder in that "working" folder and a member of our IT department pulls the files out of that folder to "deploy" the manual to our users. This process has worked for over four years, however, for most of that time, there has been only one person doing the work and that person is now out of the office for an extended period of time.  I rather got tossed back into the fray at the last minute when it was decided that a set of updates was needed by November 1--a deadline that has not been met, of course.
Since posting the plea on the forum, I've had ongoing contact with an IT staff who tells me the best solution right now is to save the files we each updated, request a file restore back to the last known good state, and then try to re-incorporate our changes to the clean version. In the interest of time, we are pursuing that...your additional thoughts and feedback about the situation would be most welcome.

  • Missing Images After Moving RH8 for Word Project

    Hi everyone!
I am encountering a problem that I cannot solve, so I thought I would try posting here for some help from the pros.
I am working with a legacy RH for Word project. I currently have RH 8 and Word 2007. I relocated the project and all of its associated files from my local machine to a network drive. Now I have found that all of the image files that I have used throughout the project are showing up as broken links.
I have tried deleting and readding the references with no success.
I have also made sure that both the path to the current location and the path to the old location show up in the list under "All Project Folders" on the Help Image Properties box (with the current location on top of the previous location, if that matters).
The images display if I do the Active Test and they display when I bring up the Help Image Properties box. I have double and triple checked that the images are in both locations, but when it comes time to generate the primary layout and view it, they are broken again.
I am at my wits end, so any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Many moons since I have used RoboHelp for Word but I am suspecting the issue is moving the project to the network. I think it is OK to have the documents on the network but not the project.
Not sure and more than happy for a RoboHelp for Word user to chip in and contradict.

  • Missing images - "XML structure element, not in layout"

I'm putting together handouts for several classes, which largely consists of copying and pasting text from Microsoft Word into InDesign CS5. Images I am placing manually. After re-organizing some of my files, one of my documents is now missing 118 links to images. However, none of these images are actually in my document - in the Links panel, each image says:
"XML structure element, not in layout"
Here's a screenshot of my links panel:
These images are not supposed to be in the document at all. Clicking "Go To Link" does nothing. Is it possible that copy and pasting text from Word could have also copied the images in the Word document as well, without actually placing them on the pages? They now seem to be stuck in some kind of InDesign limbo.
The only way I was able to get rid of them was to delete elements from the XML structure panel, however this deletes the content from my pages, which is not exactly helpful. Is there some way to just remove all of the missing image links from my document? Many thanks for any help!

I was able to solve my problem. After displaying the Structure panel, I apparently had tons and tons of XML elements in the XML structure that were not placed in the document. I've never even seen the Structure panel before so this is totally new to me. I was able to delete all of the XML elements that were not placed in my document by checking their icons.

  • RH8 "Kindly generate WebHelp SSL layout" Eclipse script error message

I give. It seemed to offer help, of the kindly sort, but in fact it ends the process without doing its job of producing Eclipse help.
Searching the Help for this error message gives no clue. "WebHelp SSL layout" returns no help results.
Here was my process: Word import to RH8, generate WebHelp, then run RH8 Tools>Scripts>EclipseHelp
I notice there is a WebHelp.ssl file in my project directory.
Are the scripts still in Alpha state... the script appears to be eHlpDhtm.js, I tried to edit it in RH8 but got another error, "navigator undefined".
Any ideas, before I go back to Dreamweaver.... ?
    thanks, -Dee

How to create Eclipse Help from RoboHelp 8.
    1.    Go to Tools->Options: Check flag “Convert RoboHelp edited topics to HTML”
    2.    Create an empty directory say "MyHelpPlugin" under plugins folder of Eclipse. You can find the plugins directory in the Eclipse Installed folder.
    3.    Generate WebHelp SSL
    4.    Open Scripts Explorer pod, View->Pods->Script Explorer
    5.    Run the Script “EclipseHelp.jsx”
    6.    Select the generated webhelp SSL folder i.e. WebHelp (<name>) under !SSL! folder.
    7.    Click Ok
8     In Select Eclipse Plugin directory, choose the same folder as in Step 2 ("MyHelpPlugin”) under plugins folder of Eclipse.
Caution: Contents of the folder would be deleted, so double-check the folder selected.
    9.    Click Ok
    10.  In “Describe plugin.xml file” dialog, specify the name of Help and provider name
    11.  Click Ok
    12.  View help in Eclipse by Help -> Help Contents
And you should be able to view your Help as a Book in Eclipse..!!!

  • Can I publish my RoboHelp project directly to a web server using the Generate Primary Layout (WebHelp) function?

I am hoping to improve my method of publishing my company
    Knowledge Base.
Currently, I generate the RoboHelp layout to a folder on my
local computer and then manually upload the project output files to
our sever via SmartFTP. My question is how do I publish directly to
    the server? Is this possible?
On the first page of the Generate Primary Layout "wizard", I
have entered the path to a local folder on my computer. Three
screens later in the Servers box of the "wizard", I have entered a
server and path, and checked its box. When I generated the output,
I expected it to be published to both locations: the local folder
and the web server folder. But it only publishes to the local
    folder, not the web server.
How do I get it publish to the server also?
Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!
    ~Beth

I had been using the HTTP setting, so switched to FTP and
filled in server info. This time the Publish function began
working! However, the process has since hit a snafu.
Certain files are causing errors and I'm getting a message
    such as this one:
Publishing has been cancelled. Failed to create file: image
    235.jpg
When I click OK to the first error message, I then get this
    one:
Publishing has been cancelled. Failed to create file:
    bsscftp.txt
After clicking OK to the 2nd error msg, the Publish fails and
    I get this:
Warning: Failed to publish to "help". reason: Canceled by
    user.
I have run through the Publish a couple times now and various
files cause the 1st error, but the 2nd file is always that same txt
file. I realize this snafu may be particular to my situation but
    any ideas?

  • Can not view primary layout

I am using Robohelp HTML X5 build 584, with windows XP and
IE6. I have used robohelp inthe past to generate web pages with
help info which all worked well. I recently added new pages to the
project and now it is not working. In the meantime I have
transferred to a new pc and reinstalled robohelp and activated it,
    so maybe that isthe problem.
When addinghe new web pages I can generate the primary layout
but I can not view it. WHenj looking at the files created it is
missing the main html page that shoudl be the ne that opens, plus
some of the data and xdata folders inthe skins. I restored from
backup a few thinjgs which I noticed wer missing but that does not
    seem to help.
I created a brand new test project in case size was a
problem, and added about 30 topics. Again it willnot view primary
layout and does not create the main .htm page.
Any ideas on how to fix?

    Hi Di W
This certainly sounds as if RoboHelp isn't correctly
installed or that you don't have sufficient permissions. I'd be
checking with my IT staff to see if they recently changed anything
from a security or permissions perspective. I'm not slamming IT, as
they do have valid reasons for endlessly tweaking these settings,
    but it's quite common.

  • Missing image links NOT alerted, and not in Links panel

Don't know if this is a consequence of shifting my files and account across to a new Mac Pro, and re-configuring hard drive locations where linked image files are, but... I'm working on a document that spanned systems - finally coming to completion, and I'm writing the print PDF and found this problem.
InDesign CC 9.2.1 running on Mavericks 10.9.2 is NOT indicating missing links images in the Links panel. In fact it's not indicating the image on the page is even in the document - it doesn't appear in the Links panel, even though I see the image on the page.
I noticed this when proof checking a high res print PDF, and the image looked low-res. Odd as it shouldn't be.  Went back to InDesign file to interrogate the image, and found when I clicked on it, it wasn't highlighted in the Links panel - where I have the Warnings, dpi and other columns active so I can quickly check problems. It wasn't there at all. InDesign seems to be blind to the image.  When I right click the rogue images on the page I don't get the 'Graphics' section at the bottom of the drop down menu as I do with ok images.  I guess because InDesign doesn't even know it's there?
Basically the image is visibly on the page, but InDesign doesn't appear to know about it.....  What gives?  I'm having to go through a long document now clicking on each image to check it's showing in the Links panel, then relinking every image that appears to be completely lost as far as InDesign is concerned not even knowing it's there.
I have "Reset All Warning Dialogues". Made no difference.
I worry about what other files are going to do this to me now and how much time will be wasted carefully checking validity of every image.

Thanks Peter, maybe that's it although I don't recall using that method of putting the image in the layout. It's not something I would normally do. Its some months ago mind you, and the client did send me a bunch of images to consider using so I may have just dragged their images into my early layout while scamping up the first draft, and it may be these images that have been 'lost' by I.D.
I normally create an image frame into which, using Edit - Place, select the image from a folder on the drive.
Sometimes (because the preview of images in the ID Place dialogue is so slow to build) I view images in a Finder window and select from there, drag-and-drop into a pre-sized Image frame in I.D.
I may have dragged an image direct from the Finder into Indesign not first creating an image frame for it to be placed into. But I thought I.D. would still note it as a Link asset, else why allow images of any kind into the layout if Links doesn't keep track of them for pre-press proofing use etc.
The (in the end just 4) images that were completely unknown to InDesign were all in image frames, scaled and cropped within the frame bounds. So I wasn't to know months later that I may have drag-dropped the image files uncropped etc into ID then subsequently cropped them (if indeed I had).
If you're suggesting this method of adding images quickly into I.D. won't list them in the Links panel, then I will make a conscious effort never to use that quick method again!

  • Missing images in Word Document

I am having a problem with some missing images when I
generate a Word document from RoboHelp HTML. I have seen similar
problems in these forums and have tried the solutions without
success. I have Word 2002 SP3. I have images in my document that
have conditional tags applied to them. Up until now, I have not had
any trouble with them generating in Word. I added some more images
(using RH to import them into my doc) and I set up the conditional
tags to print those and not the others. In some cases, the images
are generated and in others they are not. There is no X in its
place just a blank line. I have tried erasing the .CPD file and
re-generating. I have tried removing and re-inserting the image.
Also, if I generate the html web help, the images are all there. No
problem. I have tried embedding the images and using links and get
the same result. I have not tried to just generate the PDF because
I need to tweak the document in Word first before generating the
PDF to make everything look good.
I have also uninstalled and reinstalled Robohelp. That didn't
help either. The image properties all have none (not left or
right). I am running out of ideas to solve this problem. Everything
worked great before so I can't figure out what could possibly be
wrong especially since the webhelp is fine. I also tried moving the
project to my C drive. No change either. The project usually
    resides on a network drive.
If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it since I have a
document to print for a customer ASAP! Thank you in advance.
    Evelyn

I have been suffering with this problem of missing graphics for some time, even with RoboHelp 8. However, it now seems that I have found the answer and just in case anyone else is still having this problem I thought I would share what worked for me.
After doing some Google searching I found the web site: http://www.gmayor.com/mail_merge_graphics.htm where the following solution was offered for problems with Mail Merge graphics:
"If you find that on merging to a new document the resulting paths have been changed to something like: {INCLUDEPICTURE"../,./../program%20files/My Program/ProductPictures/ImageName.jpg"\*MERGEFORMATINET} and the merge does not work correctly:-
(In Word 2003) Select Tools > Options > General > Web Options and uncheck "Update links on save""
Whatever this has to do with anything I do not know, but it magically fixed my problem and all images are now appearing in the RoboHelp Word output.
    Cheers,
    Chris

  • Will the features of WebHelp and WebHelp Pro layouts ever be combined?

Why are they separate? I like the enhanced features of WebHelp Pro, but I lose other new and GREAT features of WebHelp.
I use the WebHelp Pro layout for the customization features like:
    Conditional Build Expressions
Content selection (TOC, Index, Glossary, etc.)
Exclude unreferenced Topics and baggage files
I would like to also use WebHelp (not Pro) features like:
Turning off certain toolbar buttons when there is no content for them (i.e. Index, Glossary). I have customzed the skin, but am not able to delete these buttons from the navigation area. Turning them off in WHPro would be ideal.
Using Content Categories. I need to use this feature to keep the TOC pane from showing (great for mobile devices) and for offering specific navigational paths, but I would have to sacrifice the features of Pro to do. Namely, Excluding unreferenced topics and baggage files. Our client primarily uses the search feature instead of the TOC navigation. We can't have them "finding" unused or developmental content, so I have to use Pro -- unless there is a better solution.
    Am I missing something here?
    Thanks,
    Shelley

    Hi Shelley
Sounds like you could really use a bit of RoboHelp training. I say that because you are unaware of why you would need RoboHelp Server, unaware that the "Pro" outputs are intended for use only with that output and the grand daddy of them all: unaware that most (if not all) of the features you cited are simple to achieve with the standard WebHelp output if you only know what and where to tweak things.
John and I are both Adobe certified instructors. Additionally, there are books on RoboHelp you may purchase that will help you learn how to effectively learn these features.

  • Is there a way to create a report of topics with missing images?

If I move all images in a project to a different directory,
is there a way to print out which topics have missing images?
I would like to have all images in the HTMLHelp folder, since
this is the default folder that images are copied to when I insert
them from another source folder. If I move all images from my
"Images" folder to the HTMLHelp folder, is there a way to generate
a report that lists all topics with missing images?
Normally, I've been using the "Images" report to determine
which topics used that image before I moved them, but I'd like a
report that denotes which topics are missing images, period.
    thanks in advance,
    ChristyG

    Hi ChristyG
As long as you only move the images within the RoboHelp
    project, none should go missing!
Unfortunately, I don't believe you have an easy report at
your disposal that will advise which topics contain missing images.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Acrobat X Pro Missing Grid with File Preview Layout for Portfolios

In Acrobat 9 Pro, there was a Portfolio layout called Grid with File Preview. We use it as our primary layout for PDF portfolios because it allows users to rapidly view PDFs within a portfolio. This was our primary reason for using Portfolios. Unfortunately, this important feature was removed in Acrobat X Pro resulting in clunky and very slow PDF viewing.
Adobe needs to immediately reinstate Grid with File Preview into Acrobat X Pro. Until this happens, I will continue to use Acrobat 9 Pro.
I encourage everyone to use the Feature Request/Bug Report Form to submit this as a Bug. Unless everyone complains, nothing will happen.

Check out this free layout and instructions for installing.  This is just what I've been looking for since we upgraded to Acrobat X.  My attorneys hated reviewing thousands of PDF files that looked like flying cards.  http://blog.practicalpdf.com/2012/07/grid-with-file-preview-pdf-portfolio-layout-available -now/

  • The Case of the Missing Image

    Go to this link:
    http://fyiboerne.info/wcid.html
This page is a very simple HTML page which displays two
things: a "< GO BACK" link, which is visible and working
properly, and one jpg image (file name: wcid#2.jpg) which is not
    visible.
I would love to know what is going on here.
Both the html page, and the lone image are in place on the
remote server; however, when I test the page on my testing server
it comes up blank as it does from the browser when online. I've
tried pop-up windows, a download to a pdf version of the .jpg....IT
IS ALWAYS BLANK. Moreover, I have purged the entire site and put it
back...dumped the html file and completely rebuilt it...tried
opening the pdf file and jpg file in Photoshop and Acrobat, where
the image always comes up. In Photoshop, I flattened the layers.
The image shows up in Dreamweaver, but fails to appear in a
preview (using Firefox and Safari), and fails to appear on the
    Internet.
I included the source code for this link in the event anyone
can see a problem. The first source code appears on the page which
links to the page in question. The second source code is the code
from the page with the missing image.
    THANKS!
    HELP!

Removing the "#" character from the file name fixed the
    problem. Thanks!

  • TOC doesn't show in View Primary Layout

OK, this has got to be some minor little thing I'm not doing.
I created a project by importing a PDF and creating topics based on a given style.
In the Project Manager pod (?), under Project Files, I have 6 files. Each of the 6 files appears to be one of my topics. Good so far.
A TOC wasn't created, so I right-clicked on each of the 6 files and selected New > Table of Contents.
Now, still in Project Management, the Table of Contents folder has my entries, but when I use the View Primary Layout button, I get topics with no TOC (nothing in the navigation pane when Contents is selected). OK, that's not quite right, I get the FIRST topic in the content pane and a complete blank in the navigation pane.
My computer does show a warning that Microsoft is protecting me from the evil Self-Inflicted virus by not allowing content to run unless I specifically authorize it, but I still have no contents when I allow the content.
Is there some minor thing I'm not doing? (I'm taking it that the View Primary Layout is supposed to show what the end-result will be)
    Thanks,
    Solon

In Project Manager you should see Table of Contents listed. From what you say, instead of setting up the default TOC, you elected to create a new one. That will be confirmed by you seeing two entries under Table of Contents.
Then probably what happened is instead of setting the wizard to use the new TOC, you left it with the default so you generated using the default instead of the TOC you had created.
Double click the Primary Layout and change the TOC used in the first page to your new one and it should be OK.
If you double click a TOC in Project Manager, you should see it open in a pod.
