Missing INDD file type

Yesterday, I updated CS2 with CS4. Then, CS2 was uninstalled.
Today I have been trying to use CS4 InDesign. When I tried to open indd files (created with CS2), I am getting only empty pages.
I also found that INDD was not listed under Folder Options>File Types, but I see InCP, INDP (also IDAP, IDML, IDP) but not INDD. I could not figure out what is going on with CS4. Do you have any explanation for it? James

That's the gist of the first thread Bob suggested you see.
Removing programs tends to remove the file associations, too. You can either restore the association using Explorer, which will use the same icon for all version documents, or you can re-install which will restore the associations and enable the icon handler .dll to show you the correct icon for each version.
Not that it matters at this point, because the damage is done, but uninstalling older versions after installing new ones is generally poor practice and likely to remove something useful. If you are going to uninstall the old version, do it first. You can also create problems for yourself if you try to install an old version after the new one.
There's really not much reason to uninstall old versions of most Adobe products at all. The only one I know that won't co-exist nicely is Acrobat, and the installer will remove the old version for you these days. I still have ID installed going back to version 2, and you'd be surprised how often I want to open a legacy file in the original application.

  • Missing VOB file type from pull down list of file formats

All of a sudden I can no longer import vob files.  This had been working fine, but then I installed Encore, updated everything (Premiere shows version 4.1.0) and now the vob files I had previously inported are no longer recognized and a vob file type no longer shows up on the pull down list of file types that can be inported.
    Any suggestions?

Does any MPEG variant still show up, for instance in the Sequence Presets does it show HDV, XDCAM, or similar?
If not, you have been bitten by the Installer Bug.
Many have experienced problems in the sense that after updating, their full version reverts to trial status. Often this is caused by either a faulty installation previously or having used at one time the trial version. The best solution, cumbersome and time consuming, is to uninstall, run the CleanScript 2 or 3 times and reinstall and then apply the updates again.

  • MISSING .indd file after Indesign crash

Using Indesign CC and Yosemite 10.10.2
I saved an .indd file to my hard drive successfully, tried to export as a PDF and it crashed.
And took the .indd file with it. It's not corrupted, it's simply GONE. And the PDF is a whopping 0k.
Indesign tried its best to recover after the crash, but needs the actual .indd file to do so, of course. First time Indesign CC crashed on me, actually.
I spotlight-searched my HD, trash, servers, everywhere. It's completely gone. or renamed? or hidden? I turned on hidden files via Terminal, not there. Restarted too.
    Anybody had this happen?
Nope, I didn't have it backed up. Murphy's Law, the one time you put off backing up....

  • Can't associate INDD files with InDesign CC 2014 (Windows 7)

After updating to CC 2014, I noticed that my file associations for all my Creative Cloud applications were pointing to the wrong places. I assume this is because the new updates are actually different versions of the application and installed as completely separate apps. I was able to adjust my PSD and AI files to point to their new CC 2014 counterpart just fine, but when I tried setting the file association for INDD files, I noticed that the file type did not show up in the Windows 7 control panel file association list. So, instead I went directly to an INDD file on my computer, right-clicked, selected "Open with...", clicked "Browse..." and navigated to "InDesign.exe." When I selected it and pressed OK, it failed to change the file association. Repeating the process has not helped and now the only way to open an INDD file is to drag and drop it into the workspace of InDesign CC 2014. After restarting my computer, the INDD file type is now showing up in the Windows 7 control panel file association list, but it still is not allowing me to change the association.

No, I did not. I'm running the 2014 Release version of InDesign for Windows (see screenshot below). And as far as I'm aware, Adobe has not released another update to the 2014 release version. I used to have the older version of InDesign Creative Cloud installed as well (the version right before the 2014 release), but have since uninstalled it as didn't want or need two versions of InDesign. I may just try re-installing the 2014 release version and see if that fixes things.

How do I make certain file types always open with Quicktime?
I tried to do it through windows, but I cannot find the Quicktime executable because the QT shortcuts don't list the filepath.
I tried to do it through Quicktime control panel and/or preferences, but I am missing a "File Types" tab seen on online tutorials.
I tried to search for it in Quicktime help, but QT doesn't have help search.

Reread all of post #1; particularly: "If you do not see ID in the Open With list, you will need to navigate to where ID is installed and select the .exe file for InDesign."

OP, did you ever get a solution to this problem? It's driving me nuts having to specify a download destination then go into a program to open the file I just downloaded!! Have tried deleting file types .rdf and no success either!
    </blockquote>
I'm not sure of the solution on Windows. But this worked for me on Linux.
    I needed to edit mimeTypes.rdf
See the links below for details. The first one was someone having a problem with Transmission. I was having a problem with ktorrent, so I just adapted that. If you're having a problem with a different file type, then you'll need to adapt it differently. But the general idea is the same.

Also, I suspect that FlashGot or some similar download manger plugin was responsible for screwing this up. I haven't confirmed it yet, but I've seen some things that make me suspect it.

  • Suddenly getting "Missing Plug-Ins" errors when opening .indd files in InDesign CS2

I have a PC running Windows 7 and InDesign CS2. The laptop's installation of Windows was corrupted and I had to re-install the OS. I backed up all files, reinstalled the OS, and then reinstalled applications. One of those applications was InDesign CS2. However, after the installation of CS2 on the fresh copy of Windows, I noticed that I have trouble opening most, but not all, of the InDesign files on my hard drive.
When I try to open a .indd file I see an error message pop up that says "Missing Plug-ins. LILO.APLN, DYNAMICDOCUMENTS.RPLN, CONDITIONALTEXT.RPLN" and three more. Under that list of missing plugins is the warning "This document uses one or more plug-ins which are not currently available on your system. Do you want to open anyway?"  If I click "okay" I then am met with another dialog box that says "Cannot open file. TEXT.RPLN, LAYER.RPLN" and on and on for about 60 more items.
I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE THINKING! I've searched around concerning this issue and it appears the consensus is that the file was opened by a newer version of InDesign. That possibility is, in fact, an impossibility. Never have I used a newer version of InDesign. The files that I am working on were backed up, stored on local storage and not touched once before reinstalling the OS and reinstalling InDesign CS2.
I also noticed that not all InDesign file formats were associated with InDesign in "Windows Programs and Defaults." I changed those to look to InDesign. I've also uninstalled InDesign CS2 and re-installed.
Not all InDesign CS2 files are exhibiting this behavior. So far, it appears more than half are, but some can be opened with no problems. There seems to be no correlation between which ones are able to be opened and which ones can't be opened.
What could have happened to these files and is there any possibility of opened them again? Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

Conditional Text was a new feature in CS4. I'm thinking, can you explain how your old CS2 documents became aware of it?
    Not exactly sure myself. Abiogenesis?
    [Edit]
Almost forgot. I wrote a script to unequivocally determine the InDesign version a document was last saved as:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4071273
I'll give that a try today. Even an affirmative judgement that the files are newer than CS2 would not impress me however. The fact remains, the files were copied off one hard drive over to another, the plug was pulled on the hard drive, the PC was re-imaged, CS2 was reinstalled, the files were copied back over... and whammo.

  • Media Missing in Live Type File Error Message

So I just upgraded to FCE 3.5 and have been playing around with LIve Type.
Yesterday I succeeded in making some titles with textured backgrounds etc. and getting them into FC. Today, I can still make the titles in Live Type, but when I import them into FC I get this message, in front of a purplish background, on the icon in the FC browser and when I drag the thumbnail into the viewer.
Media Missing in LIve Type File.
I have gone into project properties in Live Type and checked the "render background" box. I have also moved my media sequences above the background divider in the time line.
Nothing shows up in FCE, not even my text. But if I do a title with only text it shows up. If I include a texture and some effects, it does not show up. I just tried it with effects only and they show up. So it appears that it is a texture media problem. As soon as I open the text/effect title and add a texture, it comes up with this error in FCE.
My files for live type are on an external hard drive. it mounts fine. I can see all my titles fine in Live Type. They render fine. But don't show up in FCE.
I am working on a MacBook.
    Any help?

When I Render it it shows up, but only for a few seconds then it goes black for a few more seconds. This happens when I have my in and out points set in LT and check, render only between in and out points, it also happens when this box is not checked. So I don't get the full time of my title effect.
My problem is that I didn't have to render before, why do I have to go to the trouble to render now?
I don't have to render on my iMac, it just works there. No rendering or exporting required. ?

  • Finding missing files that are a different file type?

I had several folders of jpegs that i converted to dng with lightroom.  I lost the dng files and now i only have the original jpegs.  when i introduce them back to lightroom it no longer recognizes them because of the different file type.  When i "find" and individul file it works and the missing dng is replaced with the jpeg.
The find nearby files option does not work and finding thousands of files individually is just not going to work.  I don't want to reimport because i will lose all the work i have done to these files.
Any ideas?  Maybe I should wait for 3.0?
    thanks,
    Braden

... the dng converter wont convert a jpeg to dng only camera raw files...
    Didn't know about that.
In this case, you can use Lightroom to convert to DNG:
    Start a fresh catalog.
    Import all your JPEGs.
Use the Convert to DNG command in Library module to convert all JPEGs at once. It will place the new DNGs in the same catalog as the source JPEGs.
Open the original catalog where the DNGs are missing — the old catalog should be fine finding the newly created DNGs now.
You can now trash the "new" catalog.

  • BizTalk 2013 choice for "999" file type missing in Party Agreement configuration

Ok guys--this makes no sense. In BizTalk 2010, we were able to select the 999 file type in the party Config/Agreement section, specifically in the "Envelopes", "Local Host Settings" & Transaction Set List" sections under
"Transaction Set Settings". I could see if this was a 997 file type as that should be deprecated under 5010, but this is 999, the new format.
Since my experience with 2013 is limited, can anyone tell me if there is a service pack or CU we missed when this was setup that might include this? A setting somewhere perhaps?
Any assistance is appreciated--thanks in advance---
    Tom

Confirmed as bug / oversight in Biztalk 2013 -Ugh
    Hello Scott,
We did an in-house repro and realized that this does not work.
It seems in BizTalk Server 2010, we had 999 listed under the
supported transactions list, but it is somehow not listed in BizTalk Server 2013.
We have raised a ticket to the Product Group to review this and make the required change. However, we do not have an ETA by when this change will be implemented.

  • Missing or wrong file type icons

Got my new Retina iMac this week (running OS X 10.10 of course) and went through and downloaded/installed all my lovely programs but now some of the file type icons are showing up as awful exec type file icons (see below).
All the .indd files were created in the same version Adobe InDesign CC 2014 and InDesign is set as the default program for all these file types, but as you will be able to see, some have that awful black icon. Blergh!
    Any suggestions?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

I am trying to integrate software developed by a contractor into my project. When I load his project, I am missing two VIs. They are:

    Hi jackminar,
I've tried searching for those files on my computer without any luck.  Is there a way for you to contact your contractor in order to see if he originally sent them?  Has your program ever worked upon getting it from your contractor?

  • .indd File Mime type

Could anybody tell me what the mime type for .indd files are?
Am trying to allow indesign files into our DMS but I need the mimetype, can only find it associted with "application/octet-stream" but this mimetype allows things like .exe files etc
Is there is specific mime type for indesign files and other adobe products file extensions like for pdf = "application/pdf"
    Thanks.

    Indeed, hastingsr is correct.
There is no official MIME type for InDesign -- it does not appear in the IANA's listing: http://www.iana.org/assignments/media-types/application/index.html.
But if you consult the XMP metadata that InDesign writes, it identifies itself in the Dublin Core metadata as application/x-indesign:
    <dc:format>application/x-indesign</dc:format>
application/x- types are not covered in a registry, and are basically a free-for-all, but the IETF has realized that's not the best move, and that state is changing. See http://tools.ietf.org/id/draft-ietf-appsawg-xdash (Deprecating Use of the "X-" Prefix in Application Protocols. P. Saint-Andre, D. Crocker, and M. Nottingham. October 24, 2011).
