Missing information in e-mail messages

Sometimes I receive an e-mail message that only contains the header information and does not have anything in the main message window. I am on OS 10.5.7 but if I check messages using 10.4.11 on another Mac the whole message is there.
Cannot find a common denominator regarding the type of messages affected. Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks for your response. My problem isn't with adding a hyperlink within the body of the e-mail. I am wondering how to change the name of the hyperlink once it is embedded.
Instead of having:
http://discussions.apple.com/post!default.jspa?forumID=75
Is it possible to rename it so the the mail recipient sees:
Apple Discussion Forum
Maybe my problem lies in the fact that I use Fire Fox as my browser and not Safari?

  • Missing: Information in Apple Mail

    Hello
In Mavericks Apple Mail, I missing the option formgetting information of the size of all my accounts. So I don't know if the quotas are reached.
Is their another "easy" way to check this? In 10.8 you can easy click Apple-I and you got all the info!
    Regards

The problem of "invisible" attachments sounds all too familiar. I am using Apple's "Mail" program ver. 3.4.
Recently, attachments have not always been showing up when the email's file size and the Paperclip icon indicates an attachment should be present. I have found that when this happens, very often I can view the hidden attachment by either going to the File Menu and choosing "Quick Look Attachments", or by pressing the Command and Y keys simultaneously. On occasion, I have had this abnormality occur from the same sender's email account who has also sent other emails with attachments that have shown up.
If this is a known Bug, hopefully the upcoming OS X 10.5.5 update will provide a fix.

  • A pop-up message is frozen on my settings page. I was trying to set up an apple id for iTunes when I got a message "required fields have been left blank. The missing information is highlighted in red." the ok button doesn't work. 1st gen iPad.

A pop-up message is frozen on my settings page. I was trying to set up an apple id for iTunes when I got a message "required fields have been left blank. The missing information is highlighted in red." the ok button doesn't work. The message is now fixed & I cannot get rid of it. Ironically, when I found this forum I was able to set up an apple Id. Please advise how to get rid of the pop-up box. Thanks!

I'm having this same problem as well and cannot advance--very irritating. All of the information is filled out correctly and I've editted my AppleID information online separately as well to get around this issue, but no luck...

    Hi, try this...
If nothing is showing in the Toolbar at top, click the little gray oval at top right.
Right click or Control+click on the Toolbar, choose Customize Toolbar, drag the Send button to the Toolbar.

  • Delete mail message information from logs according MID

    Hi,
I am interesting if any way exists to delete specific message (according MID) from IronPort mail logs .
The problem: VIP user send mail message with very sensitive information (in message subject) and we want to delete this specific message from any IronPort logs, because our HelpDesk have access to message tracking and we really don't want that HelpDesk can see subject (even accidentally)
    Thanks.

Also, another way to do this is delete the tracking db.
Note: This would delete all the tracking info.

Saved and sorted/filed mail messages missing
October's messages are still there but all other messages are no longer in the folders. I have a confirmations folder with all forum and newsletter info for the last year that is empty. Where do these messages go?
I do not believe that I have it set to empty or delete itself after a certain time.
I can probably find these messages from comcast/gmail but still am wondering about this issue.
    Thank you.

Hi, sounds like a Save/Delete 1 month check in the box. I actually have a gmail account which gets sent a copy of every email from my other email accounts..Once each month I can Delete or Keep as I wish. Back Up....L

  • Mail messages missing after copying to new folder

I am recovering some email messages and have imported the mbox into a new folder. It contains 8860 messages.
When I copy these messages to the inbox, about 750 messages do not copy over. There is no warning that the file copy is incomplete.
Also If I try to export the mailbox, not all of the mail message are exported.
It seems very difficult to find out what is causing the problem.
I had already rebuilt the mailbox before attempting to copy it to the inbox folder.
Anyone have any experience with mail messages going missing files after copying them to a new folder within mail?

  • Missing mail messages-can anyone help?

Short story: I upgraded a Mac from 10.3.9 to 10.4.3 and now none of my old received mail messages are in my inbox.
Long story: Installed Tiger using "Archive and install". Repaired permissions. Installed the combo updater to 10.4.3 using software update. Repaired permissions again. After the system was upgraded to 10.4.3 I opened mail. It said it was importing messages. However, when it was done, there were only 6 messages from the last few days. The other 400 or so messages that had been in mail (in the inbox) in the previous version were not in the mailbox. I tried rebuilding the mailbox. This resulted in losing all of these 6 messages. I tried importing from the old account mailbox and mail re-created the mailbox structure, again with only 6 messages in the inbox.
I have tried re-importing my inbox which is listed as 18.2 mb in size but I get a dialog box that says there are no valid mail messages to be imported. I have tried importing messages from my backup disk, a backup created before the 10.4.3 upgrade but it gives me the same “no valid messages to be imported.” I have tried rebooting but there are still only 6 messages in the inbox to be seen.
Of note, the sent mail box is full of messages and appears to have been upgraded appropriately.
The application mail and all associated mailboxes etc are in their default locations. I have not moved or modified any of the locations of files.
Any ideas on what happened and more importantly how to restore or otherwise make visible all of my mail messages?
    Thanks,
    Pete

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy,
The same here -- Mail.app 2.0.5 eating messages.
Here I go: have just finalized my update from 10.3.9 to 10.4.3 after using 10.4.3 as a secondary system but keeping email and addresses and stuff on 'prime time' 10.3.9 system up until today.
After some trying (and always starting over from clean files again), this is the way I have migrated my email:
    In 10.3.9:
    1) Clean up the old mail boxes and move all messages from "Sent" and "Inbox" to real mail folders "Old Sent" and "Old Inbox".
    In 10.4.3:
    2) Take the Mail preferences from the old system to the new one (to have all the accounts)
    3) Take the Address Book preferences and application support files from old to new.
    This all worked well.
    4) Start Mail.app. This builds an empty mail box hierarchy.
    5) Use the "File/Import" command to import all my old mailboxes.
First it seemed OK. My "Old Inbox" folder was there with about 120 messages (that was yesterday). Today I fire up Mail.app and find 5 messages left in "Old Inbox". I check a few other mail boxes.
    Conclusion:
The new Mail.app just drops email messages. No error. No warning. Nothing. How can I rely on this software? I can't!
I have big mail folders and small ones. Mail.app seems to randomly decide to discard messages. One mail folder which Mail.app 1.3.11 happily handles (~1800 messages, ~43MB) has shrunk to 400 messages. I spied into the Mail.app 2.0.5 mail database (the file/folder structure it uses to store things) and I can see the missing messages are not just hidden -- they are truly gone from the database. Above mentioned folder gets exactly one message every day. So I can see if there are messages missing. It has kept the messages of the last 400 days. In the "Old Inbox" folder mentioned earlier I can see no pattern of which messages are gone
Thank god I still have 10.3.9 on a (now) external disk.
Are some of the controllers of Mail.app quality reading this? Aye? Please do something. How can it be that a comparatively simple function (storing email messages) is breaking down so badly in a piece of software that is a few years old?
If I could at least run Mail.app 1.3.11 on my 10.4.3 system then I could wait for Mail.app 2.0.6 and keep hoping. But the old Mail.app will not start up on 10.4.3.
Or someone please tell me what I've done wrong.
    Cheers,
    Jörg

Hi Ernie! I really appreciate your assistance. Are you ready for this? I had 13 POP accounts... Here is the current info on the files on my Mac (upgraded from 10.3.9 to 10.4.3 last night)

    - Messages (Folder contains 13 "emix" files, 148 KB)
    - tableofcontents (4 KB)
When I compare the above INBOX.mbox files to the 13 POP account folders in my pre-upgrade Retrospect Backup, the files sizes match, but the difference is there are no "Messages" folders in the backup - I assume these are folders/files Tiger built (and screwed up) during my first launch/import of the Upgraded Mail.
Thanks again for looking at this.

  • Mac Mail Message Count (Not New Messages) Missing

I do not know if I did something yesterday, but today I do not see the count of messages in a mailbox in the header of the application when I select a mailbox.
Did I click something somewhere and now I can't find it?
    TIA

    William - indeed and thanks.
I come from a Windows history that goes back to the late 1980's and used to be quite familiar with rebooting my laptop 7-30 times a week. When I moved to the Apple ecosystem, I forgot completely about having to reboot periodically - something I have discovered is necessary with Mac's, too. It is especially necessary with applications that get a lot of use - I cycle through a couple thousand e-mail messages every week.
I restarted Mail because it started acting up in other ways, too. Voila! Problem solved.

  • Mail messages disappear from the Inbox, but are still in ~/Library/Mail

    Folks,
I'm encountering a perplexing problem on my parent's eMac; any input would be very much appreciated...here's the story:
Over the weekend, I upgraded my Dad's 1.25GHz eMac G4 to Tiger (it had been running 10.3.9). The upgrade went smoothly, and all seemed well. I applied all the latest Apple Software Updates to get the eMac to 10.4.6, and once again, all seemed well. I performed the usual Disk Utility "permission fixing," as well, and nothing came up that seemed unusual. I did notice that I encountered the "spinning beach ball" a fair amount during routine operations, but I attributed this to the fact that the eMac only has 512MB of RAM (it's going to receive another 512 in a few days), and that I was just being impatient, given that I am accustomed to my own machine, which is a relatively snappy dual 2.5GHz G5 with the full complement of 8GB of RAM. A day or so later, Dad reported that the Mail app was not starting; upon clicking the Mail icon, it simply bounced several times, and then simply stopped bouncing. I looked at the crash logs and found that Mail could not locate a needed file/library located in /System/Library/Frameworks/SyncServices.framework. In addition, I noticed that the iCal app and the Address Book app were also crashing (the icons of each would bounce, just like Mail's, then stop, without the apps actually firing up). The crash logs revealed that those apps were also looking for this mysterious file, which apparently had somehow been misplaced/lost. I used the "Pacifist" program to reinstall the contents of that particular directory (using the Tiger install CD). Much to my relief, once that directory was reinstalled, the apps once again started up and worked normally. HOWEVER, I noticed some odd behavior with the Mail app. The first thing that became evident was that the Inbox did not show all the messages that had been there before. Looking under the ~/Library/Mail/POP-Dad's account/INBOX.mbox/Messages directory, however, it was clear that all the messages were indeed there (in the form of the individual .emlx files). They just did not seem to be displayed in the Inbox of the Mail app. I tried doing a "rebuild" of the mailbox, but this did not result in any additional messages being displayed. Any thoughts?
The other perplexing behavior is this: the Mail app on the eMac can send and receive mail, but, once you click on a newly-received (unread) message, and then go to another mail box (say, for example, the "Drafts" or "Sent" folders), and then return to the Inbox, the message that was just received is no longer displayed/listed in the Inbox. Once again, looking in the ~/Library/Mail/POP-Dad's account/INBOX.mbox/Messages directory reveals that the message IS there (again, in its own .emlx file), but is simply not being displayed in the Inbox. I can click on the individual .emlx files, and they open new windows in Mail, from which you can hit "reply" or "forward," as normal; it just won't display the actual message that was originally in the Inbox. Sent messages, however, seem to be saved/displayed normally.
I've searched through the Mail discussion forum, and while I've found discussions along generally similar lines, I have not located an entry dealing with these particular symptoms. As such, any input/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your time.
    -Javier

Regarding the missing package that you reinstalled with Pacifist, it would have been better to fix the problem by reinstalling the Mac OS X 10.4.6 Combo Update. Actually, you're going to have to do that anyway, as the package you installed came from an older version of Mac OS X and could now be out-of-sync with the rest of the system. Not only that, but if there was something amiss with that package, chances are that something else went awry as well, so you should really reinstall the latest Combo Update. Read the following articles for guidelines on how to properly install system updates:
    Troubleshooting installation and software updates
    Installing software updates
Basically, you should verify/repair the boot volume (not just permissions) before installing the update, and no applications should be running while installing it.
As to the missing messages, the conversion from Mail 1.x to Mail 2.0 is broken. Take a look at the following thread to better understand the problem:
Help! "You need to take this account online in order to download it."
If you see a strangely named Messages-XXXXXX folder within any of the *.mbox folders in the Finder, that means the conversion didn't proceed as it should, so be careful about deleting the old files, as they may contain messages that didn't come through. Better just move them out of there if you wish.
I partially disagree with Allan (and with Ernie, who also has troubleshooted a lot of similar cases and believes the old files could still be troublesome after a successful conversion as well) in that I don't think the problem with Mail 2.0 is the presence of the old files, but rather that, as a result of the improper conversion, there is something wrong with Envelope Index and with some of the converted messages themselves. IMO, the old files shouldn't be a problem if the conversion worked properly. Mail should just ignore those files when it sees a proper Messages folder in the mailbox folder.
The reason you cannot see in Mail some messages for which an *.emlx file exists is precisely that there is something wrong with Envelope Index. Mail will simply ignore any *.emlx file for which a corresponding entry does not exist in Envelope Index. Actually, Mail doesn't look into the Messages folder at all when displaying the mailbox contents, it just loads whatever there is in Envelope Index. If that information is wrong, the information displayed by Mail will be wrong as well; it may refer to messages that no longer exist, ignore messages that do exist, display one message but load a different one when you open it, etc.
Re-creating Envelope Index without cleaning up the mailboxes first would probably fail and it could even make things worse, though. That's what makes troubleshooting these issues harder than it should be.

  • Feature removal complaint (miss-informed by on-line experience)

I went to Verizon's on-line site to add a feature, 4G Mobile Hotspot, on Saturday morning (5/10/14).  When prompted and asked if I wanted assistance by Joy, I mentioned I wanted to add 4g Mobile Hotspot.  Joy responded and asked if I wanted 'free' voice-mail feature, as I was paying $1.99/month for Premium voice-mail storage.  I said I need to keep the same features, with the ability to have 50 saved voice-mails.  Joy assured me that I would maintain the same feature, having up to 50 voice-mail messages.  I asked to be certain, and Joy said yes.  So, I said sure, but I still felt skeptical.  Well, over my weekend trip, I found that my voice-mail box was full, but only had 47 saved messages (business and person purposes).
I called Verizon Support on Monday (5/12/14) and found that indeed Premium voice-mail was removed and the reason for the full voice-mail box.  I think the maximum under the standard 'free' option is 20, but the support person was not certain.  I was also told that the Premium voice-mail feature that I had, is no longer available as a selection option and he would have to request that feature back to me, but it will take several days to even find out.  AND, the only way for me to find out is to come back to my account and check it from time-to-time.
So .... I feel I was miss-informed by Joy and now I my real estate clients cannot save a voice-mail message, unless I delete at least 25 currently saved messages.
I have always been a big fan of Verizon and have been a customer for many, many years!  However, I'm thinking of dropping my Verizon land-line service, mobile cell service, switching my Verizon DSL service to Cox cable for Internet and TV, (also dumping DirecTV).
Randall (the very frustrated Verizon customer).

Well thanks for the response, but I wonder whether you read my post.(?) It was because of the online option that I incurred overage charges, had my corporate email disrupted, and ended up with a plan that cost me more than I was paying rather than less, all entirely against my desire.
What makes it all worse is that I had to spend many more hours on the phone with Verizon to try to get this corrected and have never been able to to my satisfaction. A lot of time spent for an absence of service leaves me profoundly dissatisfied.
I understand that someplace in the online process a question was apparently asked with insufficient explanation that I somehow answered as, "Please bill me an extra $116.10." This alone seems like a really good reason to never use the online option since, again, I cannot imagine I would have had this problem doing it on the phone. Not being able to correct this errant answer is a sad statement on Verizon customer support.

    Hi Ben,
    Follow the code below....
Your internal table it_final will have the attachment data. After you got the attachment data do the following
    gc_ret TYPE c VALUE cl_abap_char_utilities=>cr_lf.
    lt_attachment        TYPE TABLE OF  solisti1 ,
gt_attach TYPE STANDARD TABLE OF solisti1 INITIAL SIZE 0 WITH HEADER LINE,
CLEAR:gs_attach.                      <this will have your attachment, declare a structure which contains fields of your  excel sheet>
<before this you have to copy all the fields from your final internal table which should be attached to email to gs_attach>
    For attaching field names
        CONCATENATE gc_ret gs_attach INTO gs_attach.
        gs_attach = gs_attach+1.
        APPEND gs_attach TO gt_attach.
    CLEAR:lt_attachment.
          lt_attachment[] = gt_attach[].
    SORT  lt_attachment .
DELETE ADJACENT DUPLICATES FROM lt_attachment COMPARING ALL FIELDS.
          CLEAR gs_attach.
          CONCATENATE <field names >
          INTO gs_attach SEPARATED BY gc_tab.
          INSERT gs_attach INTO lt_attachment INDEX 1.
    <field addition ends>

  • How to set iPhone so Mail messages in inbox disappear after being downloaded to Mail on my MacBook Pro

    Hi -
Previously, the Mail settings on my iPhone and MacBook Pro were set exactly as I wanted them to be: If I opened a Mail message on my phone, it stayed in the inbox only until I opened the Mail App on my MacBook Pro, at which time it downloaded onto the notebook and disappeared from the iPhone.  This is how I want it, as I have no need for duplicate emails in multiple locations.
I recently had to reformat the hard drive on the MascBook Pro and reinstall all the software and data.  Unfortunately, I was not able to save the Mail preferences, and now my Mail App works differently: Mail messages remain on both the iPhone and the Mac, and if I delete a message on one device it also disappears from the other.
Can anyone help me to figure out how to get the settings and preferences back to the way they were originally?  Thanks for any information anyone can provide.
    Shelly

Are you using Mac Mail - the icon that looks like a stamp?
If yes, you can create Mailboxes. (click on Mailbox in the menu bar and select New Mailbox...) These are folders and are visible in Mail.
You store the mail you wish to archive in appropriate folders.

  • How do I open multiple Mail messages at once?

I can select multiple Mail messages, but how do I get all of them to open at once? (I actually do want all of them open; I'm not just trying to mark them as Read.) If I double-click on the multiple selection, the first click un-selects all but one message, which the second click opens. I assumed there'd be an Open in the Edit menu, or a Command-O, or an Open button for the Tool Bar, or an Open on a right-click menu or other special menu, but I can't see any of those. The closest I've come so far is Forward, which quotes them all in one reply, but that isn't really what I want. What am I missing?

just make it is not junk mail
